Mail Rejects Exchange Password

I'm trying to set up Mail to access my company's Exchange server. I was able to get everything working properly in Entourage, but I'd much rather use Apple Mail. The problem seems to be that Mail keeps telling me my password is incorrect, even though I know it's accurate. I've tried setting my username to include the domain (eg. domain\username) as well as entering my full email address. Nothing seems to be working. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

This is an unresolved issue for me as well. I've connected to an Exchange 2003 email account with Entourage, Versamail from a Treo Palm, and of course from MS Outlook, but when I go to set up a new account in Apple Mail I cannot get Exchange to connect.
Apple should either take the "fake" Exchange option off their mail account configuration if it doesn't work any better than this appears to work. Or provide help screens that provide step by step information about their 'unique' way of configuring this service. It has outgoing server configuration that doesn't make sense with an Exchange account...? With exchange if you can get to the server the client and the server should understand each other.
If Versamail and Entourage connects what's up with Apple Mail? Does anyone have any other secrets for getting Apple Mail to connect to an Exchange server email account? I like Apple Mail better than Entourage and would like to get this to work.
Thanks, GZ

  • Mail rejects my password

Upgraded to Lion fairly smoothly. All seems to be OK (hate the monochrome finder icons..another stupid change like removing the blue progress bar with SL) Main problem is mail rejects my password on my imac but it works fine on iphone and ipad... bloody annoying. Any solutions?

Well I was posting back to Gary for more information.I have no idea what email providers you or Gary are using and don't know what help to give. If this is a .mac or .me account and you migrated to iCloud, it could be a very different situation.
Just because you're using the same information as SL, it doesn't mean that something might have changed or is not input correctly. For your other issues, you might either follow other treads or start another.

  • Mail rejecting my password; server timing out;

.Mac server "mail.mac.com" rejecting my password. I changed my password, account went from grey to black, still having problems getting email, sending is ok. BTW, I dropped my mobile me account. Is that the reason I can't get email on my computer any more? I'm not trying to log into mobile me to get email.

Yes, but I don't know why it's still sending, unless maybe you dropped the account less than 30 days ago.
You can get a free gMail account...

  • TS3276 Mac Mail rejecting correct password for incoming only

My e mail has suddenly started rejecting my password even though it is correct. I can send but cannot receive e mail. This has never happened before but I have no incoming messages on either my Mac or my iphone.

Something seems amiss if both your Mac and iPhone starting having this problem at the same time. Was anything changed in anyway?
Are you sure the outgoing mail is going to the correct server?

  • Using mail.app, exchange password expired, missing messages

Using Mail.app with an exchange account. Unknowingly my password had expired. I wrote lots of emails and pressed send. Got the 'whoosh' so I thought everything was ok. Subsequently I discovered my password had expired as I was not receiving new emails.
I then discovered the emails I was working on had not been sent (not in the exchange sent, outbox or drafts).
They are not locally in Mail.app, I can't find them in any of the local folders. What has happened? Is this a bug.
Any idea where the messages are please, 5 hours work down the drain if I can't recover them.
    TIA.

Mail works fine with Exchange 2003. This is how our accounts are configured:
    Incoming Mail Server:your exchange server.domain.com.au
    eg. server2.bunnings.com.au
    Username: domain\User alias\Full username
    eg. bunnings\bobs\bob.smith
    SMTP: smtp.bunnings.com.au
    Web Access Server: webmail.bunnings.com.au
You can then setup the LDAP options under the composing tab to get the email list from your Exchange server.
And no i do not work for Bunnings!
    Good Luck!

  • Mail forgets Exchange password

Recently one of my Exchange accounts get periodically disconnected and I am asked to re-enter my password.  I then get an error message that the password was rejected and to re-enter.  This goes on for awhile and eventually the account is reconnected.  It can stay that way for hours or it may disconnect again within minutes.  Quite irritating.  Any thoughts?

Hi AudiGuy1, your problem lies with Keychain Access (Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities> Keychain Access) which is the heart of password storage in Mac OS X. Here is a link for troubleshooting Keychain issues, but be very careful when working with keychains:

  • Problem in Mail:  rejects correct password

My e-mail account won't connect in Mail (although I can open it fine on the web), even though I repeatedly put in the correct password.

Open Mac Mail then Command ,  (comma) to open Mail Preferences.
Select the Accounts tab then the Account Information tab.
Type in the correct password under Incoming Mail Server.
    Try your email account.
If that didn't help, open Keychain Access located in HD > Applications > Utiliites
    Select Passwords on the left.
Use the search field top right corner of the window to locate your email keychain then control click the keychain then click Delete.
Go back to the Mail Account Information window and re type the password under:  Incoming Mail Server.
You should be prompted to save that data to a new keychain.

How did you do that?  According to Apple, the system requirements for iCloud is OS X Lion 10.7.2 or later.  You posted in the Snow Leopard forums and your system info is showing "Mac OS X (10.6.8)"

  • Mail and Exchange 5.5 Server (Round 2) "Rejected Passwords"

Mail and Exchange 5.5 Server (Round 2) "Rejected Passwords"
This one is huge, as you may have seen in my other replies to Mail and Exchange Server, I have had this working for over a year no issues.
Every once in a while I get a user that I setup and all of the sudden their password on the Exchange (5.5) Mail server (running IMAP, OS X Mail app)
    is REJECTED.
This is just no good, and still to me a Mystery.
    Has anyone seen this?
It seems there is some corruption happening on the Exchange Server, with the users accounts, preferences, settings.
The one way to fix it, (that I have seen) and the Windows server guys hate this, but I say too bad, completely move the afftected User's Exchnage e-mail account to another Exchanage NT mail server (they have 6 old NT 4, Exch Servers), once that is done, Mac OS X Mail app connects fine and ha no more issue with Rejecting passwords.
    Any feedback appreciated, thanks,
    [email protected]

I think I have the same problem without Exchange involved. I have seven different email accounts and two of them are acting like you describe: changes like deleting doesn't reflect on other clients (like mobile phone email client and webmail).
This also happens with read emails showing up unread so that if the email is been read and deleted same message can appear as new and when that message is deleted I can see two separate items of that same email message.
Also all marks of reply, forward or flagged are gone when the email show up as new again.
My service provider said that updates to Mail.app have previously made some big changes to way how it acts with email servers and thought that Mail is misbehaving with my two email systems.
I am using IMAP protocol with all accounts.
Thanks for any info and help!

  • OS Lion Mail: Microsoft Exchange Server Rejects Password

    Hello,
I just upgraded to Lion and was attempting to set up all of my email accounts into Mail. My Yahoo, AOL, and Gmail accounts all worked fine, but my Microsoft Exchange account did not. When I set it up through Settings originally, everything seemed fine and it had no problem verifying the account. However, when I try to retrieve mail from the Exchange account within Mail, it gives me an error saying that the server rejected the password and then prompts me to enter the password again. I enter the correct password, and the same window pops up over and over again. Has anyone found a fix to this problem?
    Thank you!

Same Problem here since days and nobody at Apple is picking it up, even though a lot of people experiencing the same issues.
I Tried deleting all accounts (GMX, Exchange) from Mail 5.0 and create a new one (only Exchange) here: "System Pref". -> "Mail, Contacs & Calendars". Account creation worked, but Mail keeps asking me for the password telling me the server rejected the pw, which is correct (as it worked with the account creation).
To be honest I'm a little disappointed, having switched from PC to Mac earlier this year and never ran into problems with a PC that took me longer than a day to fix (especially on productive systems!), i start to regret buying a mac...
    Cheers

  • Exchange "rejected the password" possible fix

This is for anybody using mail.app and getting the exchange "rejected the password" or mapi as well.
Spent half a day trouble shooting this and finally looked on the server. In the event log it said my account had more than 16 connections open. Maybe a heavy web session screwed the somewhat fragile network connection. Anyway a simple restart of the MAPI service and it stopped asking for a password every time I tried to go online.

What is your time interval setting for automatically checking for new mail?
A big complaint of mine with the Mail.app are incorrect error messages such as this. This error message is usually an indication there is a problem with Mail communicating with the incoming mail server for whatever reason. Instead of an accurate/correct error message provided that indicates there is a problem communicating with the incoming mail server which has nothing to do with the account's password, this is provided instead.
Checking for new mail every minute will cause this if there is a delay closing the communication with the server from the previous check for new mail before the next automatic check.
If set to every minute, changing it to every 5 minutes will usually resolve this.
I have Mail set to check for new mail every 15 minutes and I never experience the same.

  • Mail rejecting password and has now locked me out

    Anyone else experience this:
Computer goes into sleep mode with mail program was still open. Upon being reactivated from sleep, the pop-up window says password for the mail account has been rejected.
I've typed in the password (accurately) and it was rejected. I typed the password in again, but it was rejected. This nonsense continued enough to where the account disables and now I cannot get back in.
Alas, I cannot reset the password because I cannot remember the security question answer. But the real issue is the program rejecting the password when I never logged out of mail.
This is a mess, since Apple is utterly hard-headed about a security question I created 8 years ago. And my credit cards have changed since then, as well, and I don't have access to those numbers.
This account originated as a mac.com, which was changed by Apple to .me and mobile me and icloud. This is f'd up.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple ID and that ID is a previous version of your current ID, not an entirely different one.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details and some other circumstances.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device. It may take a short while to remove the account.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

You should still be able to log into an old email account, even if you haven't used it for some time, very few providers delete email accounts.

  • My Mail application is rejecting my password even though I'm putting it in correctly. Mail is working fine on my iPad and iPhone but not my iMac so it must be something to do with the Mail settings on my desktop. My software is up to date.  Can you help?

I have an iMac, operating system 10.7.4 with up to date software. My mail application is rejecting my password even though I know I am putting it in correctly. I have an ipad and iphone and the mail application is working fine on them. On my desktop however I cannot receive or send mail. I think it must be something to do with the settings but cannot work out what. I have contacted BT who provides my email and internet. As I have another email address with them that is working correctly they believe it is a problem with mail rather than with them. Please can you help?

    OK Vicky, good clues...
    See if this helps...
Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Keychain Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over. See if there are duplicates, should be one for Incoming & one for Outgoing.
Resetting your keychain in Mac OS X...
If Keychain First Aid finds an issue that it cannot repair, or if you do not know your keychain password, you may need to reset your keychain.

If the setting is greyed out perhaps you have restrictions enabled that would prevent someone from changing accounts. Settings>General>Restrictions>Allow Changes>Accounts.
