Mail saving

I have saved a lot of e-mails that contain images and text. I do this in Raw Mail Source. However if I have deleted the original in my mail box the 'saved' e-mail wont open. Why is this and what canb I do to rectify this in the futrure?

I'd have to ask why you're bothering to do that.  Mail is more than capable of managing your mail.  I have every message that I have sent or received since 2005 stored away in archival mailboxes.  To clean out your Inbox, just create some new mailboxes and select "On my Mac" as the location in which to create them.  Then move the messages there.  They'll remain easily readable and searchable within Mail, but are out of sight.
Messages saved as raw source files can still be read using a text editor, though any HTML codes will not be rendered and any attachments (including inline images) will show up as just a stream of random-looking text.  There's no easy way to re-import individual messages saved like this into Mail.

  • How to delete mail saved in profiles from imap accounts no longer in use.

I have been trying to transfer old e-mail from a closed G-mail account to a new one. The messages from the closed account are downloaded on my computer (MacBook Pro w/ Mavericks 10.9.4). I need to move them to an on-line account; i.e., a new G-mail account. This has been a trial and error process, during which I have had to use a couple of different G-mail accounts, because the methods I used to copy messages failed. I've now found a method that works, using the Thunderbird "copy to" function (the "copy folder" add-on never worked for me). So I am transferring the messages 500 to 1000 at a time. The problem is that during my prior attempts to copy or transfer, Thunderbird downloaded the messages. So now I have multiple partial copies of the original e-mails saved on the computer. My Thunderbird profile shows saved mail from 4 e-mail accounts. I want to get rid of 3 of these, including the original downloaded account, leaving only the download associated with the G-mail account to which I am successfully copying the messages. How do I do this? Can I edit the profile to delete the imap.googlemail-x.com and the associated msf file? I have already de-linked two of the temporary accounts from Thunderbird, but the downloaded mail is still there. Thanks for any insights.

  • Drag and drop Mail saving

    Hi All
Is there a way of drag and drop mail saving err.. within mail.
Let me explain I use Entourage simply because I can select all the messages (in any of Entourages folders) and drag them onto finder and it create individual mail files. Though this can't be done by default in mail I wonder if there is a work round. I know you can select all your emails in mail and do a save as but this save all the emails as one chuck of text. Plus the Entourage version saves your attachments within the individual files.
    Cheers
    Steve

It's actually much worst than that.  THe MOVE command works only intermittently to move blocks of messages.  This is true for both the MOVE button in the toolbar and for attempting tm move by using the control-click menu for a selected group of messages.
Mail 5.2 under Lion does not fail in this way.  I am running two systems with the same collections of mail on each.
I moved back to Apple Mail because of the end-of-life status of TBird. TB has lots of bells and whistles that make for easy use and it has handled by 30K/6.5GB mail collection without difficulty.  It also provides a lot of features that Mail does not have, including very helpful statistics during operations.
I looked at a variety of Mail replacements inculding all the commercial stuff.  But nothing really dominates the marketplace andl the vendors seem frail.  It's clear that the big money is in cloud-service e-mail handling, not apps to run on machines you own and control.
I imagined that Apple developed and maintained software would be more reliable and sustainable in the long run. It is distressing that the company's test and QA processes did not catch this but I suppose that Apple too is planning on letting Mail wither as their cloud service gains users and market share.  Why sell an app once when you can charge a monthly fee for the service.  It's perhaps cheeky to say but the cloud isn't a technological model it's a business model.

  • Mac Mail - Saved Messages Recovery

In my Mac Mail Saved Messages, their were two folders labeled Saved Messages, with different content in each. I deleted one of them and both disappeared. How do I recover them? And then, how do I delete one of them?

    Tim Cutting wrote:
Thanks for a very quick reply - and this is how this mailbox is set up.
I have also had a bit of help and advice from a knowlegable friend and he thinks the source of the deletions may be that the account is an IMAP account on the new machine and my iphone but a POP3 accont on my old machine. I have turned off the old machine to see if this changes the behaviours on the other machines.
This is a very good start.

  • Mail saved on my Mac more than 3 months old? Poof, gone!

I switched to Leopard Mail several months ago, love it, sync it with AOL IMAP, works across the board on all my devices. Then today I noticed that any mail saved before mid-December had mysteriously evaporated from the "On My Mac" folders. Is there some sort of option that clears out anything more than 90 days old? How can I make it stop?

Check the "Mail" preferences and account settings. In there you have the option to remove deleted mail after a given time (1 week is default, I think) and the same goes for junk mail. I dont think there's a specific option for inbox mail, but check your "rules" to see if there's anything there that's deleting your mail. Do you have any smart mailboxes that contain old email? Perhaps you inadvertently used something like that and deleted the email. By itself, Mail should keep downloaded messages for as long as you want. If they're still in your inbox, however, and they're deleted from the server, then they'll disappear from your inbox. I've found it best to have a separate, local inbox I call "Old" and everything older than 1 month gets tossed in that folder. I've set that up as a rule, and periodically run the rule on all messages so they get put there.

  • Need v11.5 Xtras for e-mail, saving list variables

    Hi all,
I'm working on a new DVD project that needs to run on the latest Windows and Mac platforms, but am having trouble finding Xtras that have been updated for Director 11.5 and have been recompiled for Intel-based Macs.
Specifically, I am looking for Xtras with these features:
    1. Ability to send e-mails. DirectEMail appears to be the most-recommended, but the newest version I see is dated 2004. StarSoft has an Xtra that only lists Windows platforms as compatible. Is there anything good out there for Director 11.5 for both platforms?
    2. Ability to save/retrieve Lingo variables (specifically lists) to/from a disk file. I've looked at both PropSave (appears to be very outdated - 2002?) and vList (newest version is 11.5-compatible, but appears to be discontinued - no obvious way to order from their web site). Can anyone suggest anything?
    Many thanks in advance!

  • Is mail saved on time machine if not can I add it

is mail saved on time machine if not can I add it thank you in advance

Yes, at least it is saved on my machine.   iMac 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.   Cannot see why it should be any different for Mountain Lion.   Incidentally, you are three updates short according to your profile.

  • Moving your mail, saved mail and all other things from Leopard to Leopard??

I Have a MBP and just bought a iMac, both with leopard on them and I am having the hardest time trying to find a simple way to just bring what I have over in the mail program that comes with leopard to my iMac. There has to be a way to just bring that over to my new mail program. I can get the account settings, I just cannot get all the emails in the inbox or the folders that I have created. They have to be somewhere??? Please help if you can.
    Thanks
    Mike

I'm having the same trouble however I'm trying to do it from Leopard client to Server. This seems to be more difficult. In the past when I've moved from one mac to another, I simply copy my userfolder/Library over to the new machine and it all comes over nicely.
This does not happen on a Server. If anybody else can make any suggestions. I've got tons of saved mail on my old mac that I need to keep.

  • Mail: Saving Attachments

I upgraded the OS on my iMac from Snow Leopard to Mavericks 10.9.3 (13D65) on Sunday, and now I'm having a problem with mail.app. I'm running Mail Version 7.3 (1878.2), and I'm unable to save any attachments or images in emails.
From browsing in this forum, I note that there's been some changes to Mail between the Snow Leopard and Mavericks versions of the OS, and now there are options for "Save Attachments" and "Quick Look Attachments" in the File menu.  However, for some reason within my copy of Mail, these are greyed out:
I also note that there are "hidden icons" that appear when you mouse over the header/detail information within each email message, and that these contain an attachments symbol (usually a paperclip). However, again in my copy of Mail, the attachments symbol doesn't exist:
Additionally, when I click on an image or attachment within an email message, the only option I get is "copy image" or "copy attachment" -- when I select this, nothing happens. (I used to get a very helpful menu with all sorts of options... This appears to have gone.)
I've checked for this issue on multiple emails and in multiple email boxes, and it seems to be a problem throughout mail.app -- and I've googled, too, but not found anything to suggest what is happening here, or how to fix it.
Does anyone have any advice or ideas as to what's wrong, and/or how I could save images/attachments from my email? This is severely compromising my workflow.
    Thanks!

    post.user_wrote.label:
Try control - clicking the attachment. You should get an option to display as icon. Select it and see if you can save it.
If you want all attachments to display as icon, try running the Terminal command below.
defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -bool YES
    Hi Eric,
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Sadly, neither of your suggestions worked. I'm beginning to wonder whether saving attachments can be somehow disabled at sender level. Have you heard of such a thing? But then, it wouldn't account for this happening across mail.app...
    Cheers,
    H.

  • Mail/AOL Mail Saved Message Nightmare

I set my boss up to use AOL's imap server to send and receive email through osx's mail application. He dragged all of his important messages to the saved folder. What happened next was strange. Although the folder is on the mac itself, the messages uploaded to somewhere, leaving the folder empty. I went on his regular account and checked the saved messages box and it was empty. AOL has no idea where they went if they are not in the saved folder on their ACS. I checked the computer itself and could not locate any of the mails. Has anyone else ran into this problem?
    G4Laptop   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Assorted tidbits that may or may not be of use to those following this thread:
    1. As of August 5, I was still able to save whatever emails I wanted to select from any Mail mailbox to the AOL "Saved" mailbox with no errors or disappearance problems of any kind whatsoever.
    2. As of approximately one month ago, I could with Mail.app also move any email I wanted from the AOL IMAP inbox to the AOL "Spam" mailbox. This is what some official AOL help documents indicate is the equivalent to using the AOL client app "Report Spam" button, so I assume this is, or at least was previously, officially supported with IMAP access to AOL email as the approved way to report spam when not using AOL client or web mail access.
2.a. At some point in the last ten days or so, I noticed this 'report spam' equivalent was not working properly with Mail.app. I don't know the exact date this started happening since I don't often have to use the feature, but what I do know is that as of ~ July 28, I started getting error messages similar to the ones we now see for moving messages to "Saved." So far, the error messages are all that happens with this -- IOW, there is no disappearance problem, only a refusal to accept any email into the "Spam" server folder via Mail.app.
    3. In Mail.app, using the menu "Copy to..." option for attempts to move messages into the affected AOL-based folders works very much the same as with drag & drop, except the existing copy is never deleted from the source mailbox, so I suggest this is a better way to test for the problem than by risking any messages you might want to save.
3.a. Using the copy option may initially look like it succeeds, even when it doesn't. In my case, messages copied to "Saved" sometimes did appear there in Mail's view even after opening the "Saved" mailbox view, which I assume from Mail's Activity window does cause some small amount of syncing. However, within 10 seconds to about a minute, the newly copied message still disappears, which I assume is due to some server-side problem a 'full' sync shows.
    4. Until AOL sorts out all the details of its "new" incarnation, It is probably best not to count on saving anything to its servers, even with the web mail interface.

  • E-mail saving

    Hi all,
I have a Z*program which creates a sales order, in this program I have also the possibility to change partner dependent address by using the same pop-up standard we have in VA01 (FM 'SD_PARTNER_ADDRESS_DIALOG' )
Everything is ok, but when i try to change the e-mail address i don't get this saved...
I already tried to use a lot of standard function modules, but any of them works..
The process is : i get the addrnumber from table VBPA, then I see that I have everything ok saved in table ADRC for that addrnumber, but I don't get any new entry for table ADR6.
Do you know how can I save e-mail addresses (table ADR6) for this example? Which function, which procedure?
    Thanks and best regards

  • Removing AOL folders in apple mail (saved, sent items, spam, voicemail)

    hey,
these folders are really bothersome. when i send something with my aol account, it shows in my sent section and sent mail folder
it'd be great if i could somehow delete these four folders because they are very annoying.
    thanks a lot!

Ok I solved the problem for the benefit of anybody who might find this post and have a similar problem.
The problem was I used windows mail and later windows live mail for years and they had created a lot of different folders which synced with my imap folders, my host default folders were as follows
    drafts
    inbox
    sent items
    spam
    trash
other folders which appeared in some of my accounts depending on which mail programs I had used to access them were as follows
    deleted items
    deleted messages
    junk E-mail
    Notes
    sent
    sent messages
    1) I deleted my accounts from my mac and other devices such as my iphone in mac mail this is under
Mail menu----preferences-----accounts  highlight the acount and press the minus button
    2) then I logged into my online mail account for my host, moved items from folders such as "sent" and "sentmessages" to my default "sent items" folder, they had been placed in these odd folders by various email clients and deleted those non default folders
    3) I then re set up those accounts in mac mail and highlighted the "sent items" folder in the left hand menu in each case and then went to the
mailbox menu---- use this mailbox for-----sent
    4) then finally re synced my iPhone mail accounts, now it all works and my mail accounts are nice and clean
    hope this helps someone

  • Mail saving text attachments with DOS line endings

    dear all,
i just noticed that Mail saves text attachments with DOS line endings (CR+LF), even if the original contains UNIX line endings (LF). how can i disable this behaviour?

Using Automator, one can make a Desktop application that simulates dos2unix.
The Automator application shown here, will prompt the user to choose one or multiple (using command key) text files, and will then use Perl to process each file in-place, replacing the carriage return-line feed pairs with just a line feed. I tested this on a folder of text files where each file had more than 1 CRLF pair. Afterwards, there were only LF. The last thing this application does is slide out an OS X notification with processing status and number of files affected. I borrowed, and adapted the Perl block from Stack Overflow.
