Mail says '1 unsent message' though there is no message to be sent?

iPhone 3GS, 3.1.2 installed and all else working properly at the moment.
Mail program (Mobile Me) says '1 unsent message' though there is no message waiting to be sent.
Am concerned and wanting to fix this because it is draining my battery 1% a minute it seems.
What do I need to do?
Have tried removing and re-installing. Unsure what else to try?
It is my understanding it works in sync with Mobile Me as well as my macbook mail app. I have no mail that needs to be sent on either.
Any help anyone can offer would be so greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Here is how to do it:
switch on airplane mode in the settings. go to mail and write an email from the account, where the "unsent mail" is stuck. compose a new mail and send it. since you are in airplane mode it is unable to send it and will put it in the "outbox" and make the "outbox" visible. Now there are two mails, the newly composed one and the old stuck one. If all you want ins delete them, just do the swipe-delete (the edit, delete buttons wont work in airplane mode).

hi! First off when I try to register my yahoo acc on my iPhone it says something about "server might be wrong". When I open up mail it
Says that no password is there and that I need to put that in in settings. Then I repeat that after and after again but it still says that I don't have a password inserted

  • Pages says its updating even though there are no updates

My macbook pro won't open pages or numbers.  It says they are updating but there were no updates available.
    Restarting doesn't help.

    Hello Nancy,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Pages and Numbers on your iMac.  I have a couple of suggestions to get this working.
First, I recommend checking to see if the update was interrupted.  Use the steps in this article:
Mac App Store: How to resume interrupted downloads

If you do not see any updates to resume, I recommend force quitting the Mac App Store and then trying to open Pages and Numbers.  Use these steps:
Press Command-Option-Esc, then select the unresponsive app from the Force Quit window that appears, and click Force Quit.

  • Mail: cannot delete unsent messages

Hey! I have the following problem:
    1. Added my Imap server to the Mail App.
    2. Used the wrong number for the Smtp server
    3. wrote my first mail and pressed sent -> mail could not pass of course
    4. trying it a second time because I first thought it is a wlan problem
    5. Fixed the port number and mails now go out. The error message of old mails nevertheless still pop ups every time I open mail!!!
    *My idea to fix it:*
    6. Deleted Imap account on the iphone and added it again with working smtp number etc.
    7. First email I sent from my new account works
    8. Mail app does not make a popup but still displays "2 mails could not be sent" below my inbox messages.
*How can I delete this message?*
    Thanks you!

You can use the Tab key to select a search engine on the bottom bar and press Enter to use the search engine to do the search.
In the current Firefox 34 release there is a new "one-off" search bar.
This search bar doesn't show the name of the search engine and a logo.
You can type one letter to make a drop-down list appear where you can see suggestions and see the used search engine and that also has bar at the bottom where you can select other search engines that are enabled via the Search tab in Options/Preferences.
You can use the Tab key to select one of the other available search engines and press the Enter key to search with the selected search engine.
Click the search engine icon and click "Change Search Settings" to open the Search tab in Options/Preferences (positioned between Tabs and Content) to select the default search engine and select which search engines to show in the search bar drop-down list that opens when you start typing search terms.

  • Mail 1.2 - Outgoing messages are not sent, just pile up in outbox.

    Hi -
My Dad is in Maryland and has an iMac with Mail 1.2 (he won't let me upgrade him!). His outoing smtp keeps defaulting to an old .mac account of mine, rather than to his earthlink account. Then they all just pile up in his outbox.
When I try to walk him through it from here (California, w/ mac 10.4.x), it goes like this:
    Me: Dad, go to Mail>Preferences>Accounts>Outgoing SMTP>little arrows drop-down menu>Remove.
Dad: There is no Remove or Edit there.
So I can't tell him how to remove the erroneous SMTP because I can't see his screen and have tried everything I can think of but no luck.
Anyone have Mail 1.2 and can walk me through the drill so I can tell him?
    Thanks,
    dstein3

First, have him go to Mail>Preferences>Accounts
Then have him locate his account and your account on the left.
Have him click and drag the .mac account below his account in the list.
This will solve the default setting of mail going out from your account when he clicks on the Inbox.
Removing the smtp server for .mac may not even work for him, especially if the account is active.
Instead click on "advanced" and there should be a check box for "enable this account", deselect the box. This disables the account without deleting any mail.

  • In mail, how do I cancel the notification "1 unsent message"?

    Hello,
This might be a pretty basic question. I had an email account setup that would not send messages on my current network (at College). I went to the IT department and they asked me to delete that account and setup a new one using Microsoft Exchange. That is all fair and well: I can send and receive emails from that account without a problem.
However, in that old account (the one I deleted), I had a message saved in my Outbox. Now that that account has been deleted, I cannot find that saved message in order to delete it. Mail currently believes that there still exists an unsent message, when in reality there isn't. When my Mail application shows the inbox of both my School account and my Gmail account, there exists at the bottom of the screen a notification saying, "1 Unsent Message."
I would like help in either 1) locating the message so that I can delete it or 2) somehow refreshing Mail so that it does not count that message as "unsent." Thank you.

Well, I apologize for taking up space on this forum with such an inane question. I got the message to notification to disappear after restarting my iPod touch. I suppose that solution (restarting) will help to clear up many of the inane problems that may plague anyone's iPod touch.

  • Unsent message with Invalid Sender Address: NOT in OUTBOX!

I have an unsent email that is stuck "somewhere", the result of accidentally entering the incorrect email address when modifying a mobileMe account. When it tries to send, I used to get "Sender Address Invalid". But there are no messages left in the Outbox to delete.
So now at the bottom center of the MAIL screen it says "1 Unsent Message". And every so often it'll try sending it ("Sending 1 of 1). But then it'll just stop -- with no messages.
Restarting the iPhone doesn't clear it out.
Where is this message sitting? And how does one zap it?

One thing that might help out.
Go to settings > mail, contacts, calendars > your mail account.
Then tap on smtp to view all your servers.
Make sure your primary server is on.
Then go through and turn on all your secondary servers.
Go back into mail and see if you have an outbox with an unsent message.
    Hope this helps.

  • 1 unsent message help!

ok, so I tried to send a message the other day and it wouldn't send properly, it said the outgoing mail server failed, so it put it in my outbox and a little thing on the bottom of my screen says 1 unsent message. So I tried sending it again and it wouldn't send, so ultimately I just deleted it and didn't worry about it. I've sent other messages since and they send just fine, the only problem is, that little thing keeps showing at the bottom after it checks for mail all the time "1 unsent message."
not a big problem, just annoying to have there, any ideas? I've already deleted the mail account completely (Gmail) and re-added it, also went onto my gmail account online and made sure nothing was saved as a draft or anything like that and it still didn't fix the problem.

I also had the same issue, doing the airplane mode suggestion just added one to the count. I had already done a reboot.
The account with the issue was an Exchange one, so under settings I just changed mail to off then when I went back to email where it was only showing my other account, it sent the the two unsent emails (from the account I just turned off...). Then I went and turned mail back on and it is all back to normal without the unsent messages.

  • 1 Unsent Message?

since the 2nd or 3rd day i had my phone on the bottom of the e-mail screen it says "1 unsent message" at all times. i cant get rid of it. ive gone through all my e-mails and made sure they all sent, etc. and everything looks good.
i brought it in an apple store and the girl there couldnt figure it out either. she said to restore the phone on itunes. is there any other way to do this? if not....will resotring my phone delete contacts off my phone? my pics and music are saved on my computer so im assuming i could just load those back on.
    help!

Last time I restored (before you and someone else helped me sync my contacts) the iTunes restore put my contacts back on my iPhone without syncing to Outlook.
DISCLAIMER: Don't trust this entirely it may of been a fluke but wondering if it is something new.
I restored around the time of the 1.1.2 update.

  • 2 unsent messages - gmail behaving oddly

about 3 days ago I attempted to send two emails through gmail on the Edge network from my iphone. Those two messages never reached the intended recipient and there is a constant message at the bottom of the screen that says "2 unsent messages". Additionally, the phone keeps trying to send the messages each time I access my mail inbox and then gives me a message saying "could not connect to server - null".
The weird thing is that I've been able to send and receive emails since then.
    Any suggestions?? It's very frustrating.
    Thanks!

Thanks DanH. I've been reading all the posts but haven't quite found anything that works yet. I had initially set up a gmail account because I wasn't real happy with my free Yahoo mail account with my iPhone but now my Yahoo account seems to work better than the gmail.
Do you recommend a better email service to use with the iPhone?
    Thanks.

Did you connect your iPad to your computer then open the application on your computer that transfers photos from a camera? Your computer should recognize the iPad as a camera. All photos in the Camera Roll on the iPad should then be seen and you should be able to copy them to the computer using that application.
Photos that were synced to your iPad by connecting to your syncing computer cannot be copied back this way as the master file for those photos are on the syncing computer.

  • Unsent Messages Flood Screen When Opening Mail

I've been using Entourage for mail with Bellsouth, but I frequenly have a problem with several hundred messages that I've already read downloading again. So...I'm thinking of switchin to Mail. But when I open Mail to give it a test the screen floods with hundreds of unsent messages. The only way to delete one is to say I want to edit the message. Only then does the red delete button activate and when I click on that I get a message asking if I want to save it or delete it. Is there any easier way to delete all of these unsent messages or stop them from popping up?

Look into the mail accounts and delete their profiles. You should not lose any data you entered into contacts or calendar. After you delete them re-enter the profiles again. Hopefully it should resume working again.
