Mail says its sending double emails

When I send a single email in the apple mail program, the progress report says it's sending two emails.  When receiving emails it also exaggerates the number of emails that it is downloading from the server, e.g. it will say it's receiving four emails, but only receives two.  It's not necessarily proportional each time and can be random numbers. Can anyone explain this.  It is consistent that it always says it's downloading more emails than I receive in my inbox. Have checked junk mail and this doesn't account for it.  Am using OSX 10.9.4. Any advice appreciated.

It is a bug in Mail. The only way to reset is to quit and reopen Mail.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Why does Calendar keep opening my Mail.app to send me email notifications?

Why does Calendar keep opening my Mail.app to send me email notifications? I've disabled any settings that look like they could be used to sending me an alert. I've also read that disabling the email alerts in gmail would also help (since I use 3 gmail calendars in addition to my icloud calendar). Any ideas on how I might fix this issue?

Maybe this will help. If you monitor the "More Like This" box, other threads appear. Opening them usually displays other threads.

  • My inbox says its receiving 200 mails but only 3 in the inbox, why is this? It also says its sending 3 when I am only sending 1.

When using mail the system shows information that it has received mail (today it said 300) but only 2 or 3 come up in the inbox. It never used to do this. Why? Similarly when sending mail it says sending 3 of 3 when I am only sending 1 email.

    Back up all data.
Select the problem mailboxes in the mailbox list, then select

  • Mail: Forwarding: Original Sender Gets Email as Well?

I haven't been using Mail very long -- I used to use Eudora for decades and it was my definitely favorite email app. I hated Outlook et. al and when I bought my MacBook Pro and it was running 10.5.8, well, I just could not get Eudora to work. So I reluctantly had to switch to Mail, which I hated then, and hate even more now.
A couple of times, I was horrified to see that when I forwarded email from someone to my wife, and perhaps added a comment with the quoted text of the email, the original sender whose email i was forwarding got the email -- with my comment -- as well!
Since I don't know what's going on, I don't know how to explain it, but here's an example. Someone emailed me about taking some lessons (I teach Japanese). I replied and said I couldn't take her right now, which wasn't true -- she was already asking for a group discount for two people and I know the type and I just didn't want to bother with it, so I said I was too busy.
Then, I forwarded the email she had sent me, with the request for the discount, to my wife. I specifically chose the "Forward" button, my wife's address appeared in the address box, and I included some snide comment about why the woman was asking for a discount on a discount, as I'm already way cheaper than most turors.
    Still with me?
Then, later on I changed my mind and replied to the woman and told her I could fit her in, but she'd have to pay the full price. I BCCd my wife in on this email (Bcc means "Blind CC" -- meaning, as I understand it, that the main person recieving the email only sees their address in the header, and possibly "and other recipients," but not anyone else's email address or anything like that.
So, we go back and forth over various things, and occasionally I forward the woman's email to my wife, again, with comments, that I OBVIOUSLY don't want this woman to see.
Okay, no problems there -- before I click "Send" I make sure my wife's address, and ONLY her address, is in the address field, as I'm just forwarding an email.
Yet today, when I went to check what time this person is coming, I see all the emails that we've ever exchanged including the very first one, all one after another -- her emails, my replies etc. But then, in the middle of all these, I suddenly see the email I forwarded to my wife with the snide comment in it! How the **** did it get in there, and is it possible that email was also sent to this woman as well, so she read my comment?
Other odd things have happened when I've forwarded things to my wife -- a reply, perhaps, from someone we both know but with my previous emails, NOT MEANT to be read by my wife, somehow in the chain!
Now I'm ultra paranoid. Has this woman received those emails I sent to my wife (I thought) and read my snide comments? Why on erth would Mail include, in this bck and forth with this woman -- maybe ten emails in all, suddenly a forwarded email to my wife? It should not be in the chain at all, since it was NOT sent to the woman, merely forwarded to my wife.
Is Mail sending emails to people with their email addresses being visible in the address fields without my knowledge? Has this woman read my snide comments (and my wife's replies to them!) and even if not, why are those back-and-forths with my wife doing in the same chain as the emails to this woman? They technically should have no connection to the woman, since they were nit addressed to her, merely forwarded.
And are people seeing who I'm Blind CCing? Mail certainly is an effed-up app -- it's very badly putr together and just serves to remind me that Apple has really put some horrific software into their systems over the years, and seemingly with every new iteratioon and every new OS, the apps just get worse and less intuitive, not the opposite, with NO WAY to downgrade. If I had my way, this MacBook would be running Tiger. with iMovie from 2004 (same for all the iLife apps -- they've degenerated into Microsoft-like unusable messes).
But I'm seriously worried about this Mail issue -- the last thing I want is for people to be receiving emails that I'm not aware are being sent.
And I REALLY wish Eudora functioned on this machine -- I don't know why it doesn't but it keeps giving me error messages. But that's a separate problem.
Anyone else experienced anything like this?

    Thanks, guys . . .
I kind of knew that Mail couldn't possibly be sending emails to people without my being aware of it but I just wanted to double check.
As far as the other email programs go, for some insane reason all the ones I try (Thunderbird, for one) have problems connecting with my SMTP (outgoing) server. In one case, there's no way to change my account setting from IMAP to POP . . . the way these programs are set up, just configuring your settings requires a B.S. in network technology . . . every time these things happen, I end up on the phone with the local ISP for two hours and most of them have no idea what a Mac is  . . .
I think in this case I wll just stick wth the Devil I Know. Every email program has its drawbacks and Mail is clunky and unintuitive but thank God, it integrates with SpamSieve, the only junk mail killer that really, really works (I just learned how WELL it works when I tried Thunderbird and it downloaded all the mail I'm REALLY getting s opposed to the mail that I end up seeing -- for every legit email that SpamSieve lets through, there are at least 75 that it doesn't. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm inundated with at LEAST 400 junk emails A DAY for my two accounts and without SpamSieve I'd be in the First Circle of ****, but I digress).
It's been a year now with Mail and although I despise it at least now I think I'm getting used to it, and your reassurances about people getting unwanted mail definitely removed my last doubts.
I'll stick with Mail, since the others don't look exactly like champs either, and just pray Apple doesn't "Upsdate" anything for a good long while.
    Cheers, mates

  • Mac Mail No Longer Sends Outgoing Email

Has Verizon changed its email settings?  My Mac Mail program suddenly quit sending out my university email from home and says the outgoing verizon server rejected the password.  However, nothing has been changed in my email program and it won't accept any password to send the outgoing email.
The online instructions provided by Verizon for Entourage indicate changing the outgoing port setting to 587.   But that does not work.
Why can't the Mac Mail program send out email through Verizon any more?

Thanks for helping.  While the university has web mail for off campus access, our IT said that off campus users (i.e., when at home) using a dedicated email client (e.g., Mac Mail) should send outgoing email through their internet service provider.  I agree, it doesn't seem right to me, but that's what they have us do.
Settings that worked previously: The incoming server is a pop account, mail.cahnrs.wsu.edu with a user name and password.  The outgoing server is outgoing.verizon.net using port 587 with user name and password.
The university email is generally [email protected]  But it could also be [email protected]
Until about two days ago, these settings were working fine, so it seems like something changed somewhere.
Thanks very much for any help you can offer.
So when you're off-campus, are you still in Washington? If so, you're in an area that's been sold to Frontier, and it's entirely possible that your email access has been converted. You can contact Tech Support if you need help setting things up and/or verifying the status of your account. I was able to find this via Google, hopefully it will help you:
    http://www.frontierhelp.com/faq.cfm?qstid=1
Basically it says your SMTP server should be smtp.frontier.com, but there's also a link-off that appears to provide walk-throughs for configuring your client.
    Hope this helps!

  • Schedule Mail.app to send an Email in the future

Hey everyone, I want to send an email in the future, for marking an anniversary of a friends daughters passing away. I Don't want to miss it and I don't want to have to compose a message last minute. I want to compose it NOW. Is there a script or something I can use to make Mail.app send the mail via my Gmail IMAP at a specified time?
    Thanks!

I will say that Mail Scripts does work. I have used it for a couple of years and it allows me to create an email, save as DRAFT, then run the script for it to send it out in the future.
It even still works on Mountain Lion 10.8.1
    Grab it here:

  • Mail suddenly stopped sending outgoing emails!

I have 4 email accounts in Mail that just stopped sending outgoing emails yesterday without changing anything!
I have another Mac (OS X 10.6) connected to the same router, I set up one of the email addresses on that with the same details and it works perfectly.
I've noticed there are a couple of other threads on here with the same thing and they don't appear to have answers, hopefully someone knows something!
    Help, very much appreciated!
    Mark

You likely have corrupted settings for your  "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)".  Open Mail>go to Mail's Preferences>Accounts>there set up your Outgoing Mail Server which will INCLUDE resetting up your Password, as its asking you to.  Click on "SMTP Outgoing Mail Server" near the bottom of the Accounts window while your mail account is highlighted in the left hand column.  When you click on SMTP... you will see a drop down box icon offered at the right side of the line.  Click it and then select at the bottom of the the list "Edit SMTP Mail Server".  Fill in the required settings for your ISP mail account using their recommended settings.

  • Mail always shows sending two emails in Mail activity

Hi, I have noticed, that even when I send only one email, the Mail activity reports "sending 2 mails". Does anyone know why that is?
    Thanks in advance
    ralf

It's because you're using an IMAP account, which resides on the server, not on your Mac. So whenever you send an email, it's sent to the server, which then sends it back to your Mac, so the two are always in sync.

  • Mail unable to send any emails

    Hi,
In my office I have setup my MacBook Pro Mail. I can receive emails but can't send any out. I read that I should use Connection Doctor. I know my incoming mail server address but not the smtp. How should I trouble shoot?

guys refuse to share the outgoing server details. Hence, I am only able to retrieve my emails but am unable to send out.
Perhaps they are not clear on what settings you need? The settings you need are what any user with any computer (Mac, Windows, Unix, Linux, whatever) would need to configure their email program. You aren't asking for anything special here.
Consider showing the article I mentioned (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1277) to your IT person so he/she sees what it is your are looking for (and why...you want to use your email).
If that does not work you might want to seek someone higher up the IT chain to talk to (Or go to your superior and ask them to intercede as you are being denied what you need to use your tools.)
Asking for one's email settings is not like asking for nuclear missile launch codes from the US government. If you are someone who has an account given to you by your organization you need the settings to use the account assigned to you. Unless of course they intend for you to only be able to receive and not send. In which case, everything is as it should be.

  • TS3276 Mail putting incorrect sender with email

Yesterday I discovered I wasn't receiving all my email on Mail on my iMac. I knew they were missing because I saw them on my iPad and wanted to reply from my iMac. I also checked my account on my browser. I rebooted, checked accounts, re-entered my password, online status, etc., when finally today, it re-loaded. Now it's really messed up!!! The sender doesn't correspond with the emails!!!
I upgraded to Mountain Lion a few weeks ago and didn't notice anything weird, but maybe it's been happening longer than just this past week. I don't think so, though. Mail has always worked beautifully before.
    Thank you for any help/suggestions.
