Mail says msg sent, but msg remains in outbox

A "slight flutter" this morning: sending messages take longer than usual, but they're getting out; I know because I've received responses to them.
However, Mail still shows them in the Outbox, and even gives me the warning "Couldn't send with selected server."
Ideas?
repair permissions?
get a new email server?

Back up all data. Rebuild the mailbox.

I've since been told (today) directly by itunes/account/apple id - support, that they can't reset our password,

Mail Can be sent but is never delivered

Hi,
I was following the steps below to make it so a message can be received without a subject. After completing those steps I am running into an issue with my messages not getting to the recipient. If I send a message it acts as if it's been sent but the person getting the message doesn't and I get no message saying it could not be delivered. On the other end, if someone send me a message, I never get it and they get no message that tells them the message could not be delivered. This happens will all users of the server (any email address for the server). Any guess at how to fix it or is a reinstall in my future?

Yes, this is a default in Snow Leopard's Postfix configuration (which is the provided MTA).
If you really, truly, don't want that, then see:

For the record, the change needed is:
edit
/etc/postfix/customheaderchecks
by commenting out the line:
/^subject: *$/ REJECT empty subject header
which is done by putting a "#" at the beginning of that line (no actual quotes) like so:
#/^subject: *$/ REJECT empty subject header
After which you should use the Terminal to issue:
sudo postfix reload
And check your logs (mail.log, system.log) for any errors in case you made a typo.
Please, do NOT use a GUI editor or if you must use TextWrangler (shareware) which will at least let you authenticate as admin and not botch the permissions on that file.
However it really is better to learn to use an editor like nano or better yet vi ...
whatever happens, use the Terminal to check and to verify that the permissions of all files are preserved or things will break.

Start by looking at the logs for an example. There will be some indication in the logs as to what happened to the message.
Depending on how busy your server is, this might be as simple as tail -f /var/log/mail.log while you send such a message from your mail client.

OK, Keychain Access has three Keychains, two of which appear identical right down to Date Modified for each password) and a third called X509 Anchors.
Within each of the two apparently identical Keychains is a single POP3 password for my ISP with my email account number in the info box at the top (when I view the other two users's accounts in Mail preferences, their account numbers are the same as this but suffixed by _2 and _3. But, as I say, the only POP password appearing in Keychain Access is mine. Do you mean I should delete it?

Mail Meeting Request Sent But Outlook User Can't Accept

Are there any tricks around this? I'm using my companies POP system and I get and can accept Outlook meeting requests just fine. However, when I send a new meeting request, there is only an atm attachment and no way to accept the meeting.
Any ideas, tips or tricks?

I'm a former Palm Treo user for years, syncing with Palm desktop on my PC, and have several thousand appointments with notes on my Palm, as well as over 1000 contacts. I just switched to the i-phone 3GS, moved all my data from the palm over to Outlook 2003, synced after much heartache and difficulty, then moved all this data to the i-phone via i-tunes. As a first time user, the usefulness of the built-in calendar app. is weak, and when you have multiple overlapping appointments, it's very difficult to see these appointments in an easy visual field. In addition, there's no way to search for any content within the appointments other than by the particular day. Nor can you see the year view on the calendar.
Does any former Palm of Blackberry business user have another Calendar application suggestion for the 3GS or 3G that will sync with Outlook 2003, or better yet with Mobile Me? If you move to a different app for calendar, syncing with multiple machines or Mobile me is a problem, from what Apple tech support tells me.

Mail messages will not send and remain in Outbox

I have a POP using Gmail and it has usually worked extremely well.
Recently I have had a lot of problems with messages I am sending
getting stuck even though the connection doctor indicates not problem.
Error message will sometimes say could not connect to server.
I have restarted etc. and the only way I can get my messages out of the
Outbox is to quit Mail and re-open and then they will go out without
any problem.
Any ideas how to fix this problem permanently??

Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Leave checked (enabled) only the port configuration needed to connect to Internet and Built-in Ethernet (in that order if not the same), uncheck (disable) the rest of network port configurations and see whether that helps — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.
Mail keeps information about outgoing (SMTP) servers in a separate list independently of the mail accounts themselves. The account settings just associate one of the available outgoing servers with each account. Orphaned or dangling outgoing server entries (i.e. not associated with any account) sometimes cause weird sending problems. Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), choose Edit Server List from the popup menu, and delete any servers that shouldn’t be there. The Edit Server List panel shows the account each outgoing server is associated with.
If the problem persists and you have more than one mail account, try moving the account that has the problem to the top of the list in Preferences > Accounts.
