Mail screen corruption in Mountain Lion

I have a weird fault in Mountain Lion. When I open mail for the very first time after booting, the first email I open initially displays with corrupted graphics. If I then close the mail and reopen it everything is fine - and thereafter things seem to work normally until the next shutdown and restart from cold.
This seems to me like some sort of bug - or maybe some weird hardware fault, but it is very specific - ONLY in mail - and ONLY the first time I open an email... so it sounds like some issue with memory allocation or buffering or something like that.
A.) does anyone else have this and
B.) does anyone know how to fix it.
Its obviously not life threatening - but it is irritating in a machine which was perfect under lion.in
PS I always ran lion in pure 64 bit mode - so this isnt caused by changing from 32 bit to 64 memory addressing... Its some sort of difference between ML mail and the lion version.

I see what you mean there. I am not against the whole "iOS-ification" of the OS X software lineup as many people are, but it seems to me that Apple is giving up on quality for newer and newer features in their operating systems. Dictation? Notification Center? Power Nap? They are all shiny and glittery things I can live without, and I am sure many people would be satisfied just to see a steady base of apps not crashing and behaving the way they expect them to. I use Mail and Safari like all the time, since I don´t prefer third-party apps when I can use those already built-in with the OS. But after experiencing all that mess in ML I decided I would rather step back to Lion and wait 3 or 4 patches to be released before ever going back to ML again. After all, I hope they fix issues like:
- Kernel Panic after coming back from Sleep mode
- longer shutdown times
- crashing Mail and Safari, also graphics issues
- huge battery drain
...and one could keep listing similar and very irritating issues.
ML, though, is not at all hopeless, but I guess we need to wait another few months before all issues are tended to. Then, finally, I hope I will be able to use Airplay, the main (and seemingly only) reason I prefer ML to Lion in the long run.
Oh, and one more thing... Is it only me experiencing that Apple is giving up on customers with older machines? My one-year-old MBP has way too many issues, ones I never before experienced under Lion or Snow Leopard...

Full screen mode in Mountain Lion

Hello everybody!
I am experiencing certain problems with full screen mode in mountain lion 10.8.2 freshly installed (not upgraded over Lion or ML 10.8.x) on Macbook Pro 13 mid 2010 model. Whenever i open an application which supports full screen mode, it opens on my desktop so I have to enter into full screen mode. When I quit the application and reopen it, it again opens on my desktop then I have to again enter into full screen mode. What I want is that all apps open in full screen mode if they support like, calendar, mail, safari, notes, reeder, itunes, app store and so on.
What could be the problem that is preventing my apps to start automatically in full screen mode?
I would appreciate any kind of help from anyone of you.

HDMI Video corruption under Mountain Lion

I have a mid 2011 15 inch Macbook pro. Upgraded to Mountain Lion. I use an HDMI TV connection as an external monitor with the laptop closed. I switch to another work PC on the TV using the source selection. This causes the Mac to Sleep because no external monitor is detected. When returning to the mac and waking it up via a blue tooth track pad, the video is corrupted. It's just scrambled.
Unplugging the monitor and plugging it back in, doesn't help.
Unplugging the monitor, opening the mac, then plugging in the cable fixes it. I use a mini display port to HDMI connector.
This worked fine with no corruption under Lion - but it is easily reproducable with corruption under Mountain Lion.
Any advice?

Opening and closing the lid corrects the problem by causing the external monitor to refresh.
It doesn't have to be disconnected and reconnected.
The problem still occurs after the 10.8.1 update.

All RSS Readers that I tested from MacAppStore are much worst than Mail's in Lion.
Hate them all. I'm using blogtrottr.com to compile all RSS and send me via email. But it's flooding my mailbox. There're a bunch of them that require a Google Reader account, and I won't do that. It doesn't matter to Google which RSS I'm following.
I wish Apple put RSS reading back to Mail. Stupid idea taking it off.

Hi, i am having the same problem. this is what i have noticed.
I have 2 x imac's and 2 x macbook air's
i upgraded the 2 macbook air's and 1 of the imac's to Mountain Lion, all these have problems acessing sites that require you to login .
the one remaining imac is still running lion and works perfect.
i am using a dlink router with DD-WRT firmware, i tested teathering from my iphone and i can log into websites fine using the newly upgraded mac's.
It's not a wireless issue as my imac is using an ethernet connection.
is there a compatibility issue with some routers.

Printing multiple emails in order, using Mail 6.1 on Mountain Lion

In Mail 6.1 on Mountain Lion, when multiple emails are selected, then printed, they no longer print in the order that they arrived in the mailbox (as they did on previous versions of Mail).
Does anyone know how to order these correctly?

I was (ok, still am) frustrated by the same issue.
IF you are running MtnLion (not sure about Lion, but won't work for SL) you can do the following to create TXT or RTF output in the right order
Create a new mail message (yes, just a blank message).
Go to you main Mail window, navigate to the folder(s) which contain the message you want to group together. Select the messages you want to group.
Now go back to your blank message by simply clicking on that window.
Go to menu and click on Edit-->Append Selected Messages
All of you selected messages now are included in the blank message you were composing.
As a refinement, you can select all, and then reduce the "Decrease" the Quote Level (see Format menu).
Then save your draft and close it.
OK, it get's a bit quirky here. You can't do a "SaveAs" with anything in your Draft Folder. So to SaveAs, you must drag the message to another mailbox folder. Just make a TEMP folder and drag it there. Once there, you can SaveAS to (raw, txt or rtf), and the message will show up in the outfile in the correct order.

If you mean Desktops, enter mission control and hover your mouse over the side of the display, in the row with the desktops. A + tab should appear. Click on it to add Desktops.

TS3276 Corrupt Attachment in Apple Mail (using IMAP)(on Mountain Lion too)

I got corrupt attachments by using Apple Mail, IMAP on both Gmail and my company email. The problem continues since Lion, Mountain Lion is the same still. Any suggestion?

Well no particular file, any file can be corrupted in my experience. I've seen corrupted JPG files, PDF files, MS word files, excel files, and even .zip files.
It doesn't matter who send the email, it could happen on any email in my mail box. When I use other application like Thunderbird or Sparrow doesn't cause such issue.
Believe me I know what I'm doing, with the latest Mountain Lion, Latest Adobe Reader I can get from official website and it does not matter which version I'm having. No antivirus program involved, even if there is antivirus program involved, why I don't get trouble in other mail apps?
The problem is, the attachment files in the email was not correctly downloaded. It doesn't matter which program I use to view it. If I save the attached files onto my desktop, situation remain the same. The only possible way I can do is to rebuild the entire mail database. However, the rebuilding process could be hours for I have tons of emails saved on the server, and it does not guarantee will solve the problem. Why bother spending so much time only simply want to get a file? The point is, by using Thunderbird I can get the file instantly, with Mail I can't?
The following is part of the corrupted file's MIME header. I'm not sure if this is enough for I didn't copy the entire header for it contains some sender information. I would probably not sharing those email addresses.

Apple Mail crashes on Start – Mountain Lion 10.8.5

After upgrading to Mountain Lion - and installing 10.8.5 update, the Mail application no longer works - it crashes on open. This happened after a system-wide crash which happened while Mail was syncing my Gmail account for the first time after a clean install of Mountain Lion.
Is there a way to solve this other than reinstalling whole system? Can I reinstall just the Mail app?

I'd try a few other things before a reinstall:
your .plist file may be corrupt. To fix:
hold down option
in the Go menu in the Finder, scroll down to Library
in Library, go to Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Preferences and find com.apple.mail.plist and drag it to the trash
restart
you will have to enter your preferences again (if mail works).
boot into your recovery partition (command R while you start) and repair your hard drive and permissions

4. you could restore Mail from the backup you made before the 10.8.5 update. You did make a backup, didn't you? You should always make a backup before and update. In case something like this happens.
5. If all that doesn't work then I'd do the reinstall. There is an app called Pacifist CharlesSoft — software you always wished someone would write that can extract just the Mail installer from the entire ML installer but you'll have to download all of ML again first if you don't have a copy of the installer handy.

just installed mountain lion, tried to open mail and message reads please wait while mail is upgrading, looks about 1inch on progress bar and nothing happens, waited hours tried again and again!! help?

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the text on the line below to select it:
~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. If you get a warning that the file is in use when you try to empty the Trash, log out and log back in.

Mail not sending in mountain lion

Have recenlty upgraded to Mountain Lion.
Now none of my emails are sending. Can still receive. It keeps saying the accounts I want are offline. But there is no way that I can find to take them online.

The mail setup assistant doesn't know my email provider so couldn't do anything.
Just worked my way through all the other options in the link thanks. None of them solve it.
I've attached a screen shot of mail connection doctor. The outgoing mail server for my home internet provider is highlighted. A week ago, all of these could connect to the internet. They've only stopped after my upgrade to Mountain Lion.

Screen Sharing between Mountain Lion and Tiger not working

rMBP running 10.8.2 ML and a G3 iMac running 10.4.11 Tiger.
When I try and use Screen Sharing on the MBP to connect to the G3 it prompts for both a username and password. I enter a valid user and pw but it fails with
Authenication failed to "Ruby".
Please verify you have entered the correct name and password.
Third-party VNC clients, e.g. JollysFastVNC on my MBP and Remoter on my iPhone, can connect fine, but they only request a password.
Any ideas?

I've been using Screen Share on my home network for a very long time. My most used computer, MacBook Pro (2011) was just upgraded to ML, my desktop still has Lion on it - and can't be upgraded because it is an early MacPro. I was having intermittant problems getting the MBPro to connect to the MPro screen, and resetting the PRAM was correcting it (but it could have been the rebooting process alone - I don't know). Now I can share the MPro disks on my network but not the screen. Now, to me, that's wierd. I've tried doing all kinds of setting checks, preference removal, etc. No luck. I can, however (as someone above mentioned) connect from my MPro (Lion) to my MBPro (ML) screen. I've checked my Intego VirusBarrier X6 settings, i.e. blocked addresses (in the past that has happened and blocked) and I've even entered my MBPro address into the approved address section. I've checked/rechecked the Sharing Preferences, turned them on/off, etc. All to no avail.
Is this a Mountain Lion / Lion issue, a Mountain Lion issue, or something somewhere corrupt? I used to have Remote Desktop on the MPro, but for my needs Screen Share & Disk Share suit my needs on my home network. I have LogMeInIgnition, which when the last time I tried to connect to the MBPro it showed it offline - and it isn't. I feel there's something in ML blocking things.
I'm open to suggestions, and a fix if needed. This is frustrating. Not that I can't use the exercise to walk to the room where the MPro is - not the point.
