Mail Screwed up - can't do attachments
I have been using Microsoft Entourage until I could no longer add attachments. I changed to Apple's Mail and don't know how to use it. I set it as my default mail but now email goes to Entourage, Bell South Web Mail and a little to Apple's Mail. I am getting a message that says that I am using a smpt setting but I can't find where I could have set that. The only thing I can count on adding an attachment to is Bell South's web mail. I can't figure out with any of them accept Entourage how to send mail to a group which I need to do often. I have called Bell South numerous times and they told me at first that it was Microsoft's problem, then Apple's problem. I call Microsoft and they can't find a solution so I am left with Apple. I am running Tiger (OS 10.3.9). Have you any solutions?

Since I downloaded Firefox 4, I can't see attachments in my Yahoo mail. This is not a problem of Yahoo, because with Internet Explorer works fine. What is the problem?Ok, now they are showing. I restarted my computer again and they are showing now.

try to mention what exactly happens when you click that attachment icons and so on. Did you tried to restart FF in safemode (search how). maybe try disabling FF (firefox) addons, Clearing cache

When I receive mail my OSX opens up the attachments, they can be either PDF or JPEG how do I turn this feature off and just have them show as icons

I would like to receive email on the iphone with attachments and then sync the attachments to a Windows XP PC with Outlook 2007 without Outlook 2007 having to connect to the mail server itself and having to separely download the attachment. Is this possible?
I have only tried one pdf file which downloaded wonderfully to the iPhone. I synced to the PC without the PC being connected to the email account. This also worked except that when I tried to open the attachment on the PC I got a message that the mail wasn't fully downloaded. When I went on=line on the PC, it downloaded the attachment. No it is not. The only information synced regarding email accounts is the email account information only and this is in one direction only - from your computer to the iPhone via iTunes. -

Obviously, you are talking about the mail app, so force close the mail app and reset your iPad. If that fails, reset all settings.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
When you reset all settings, you will not lose any data, but most of the device settings will have to be entered in the settings app again. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings. -
Can't Send Attachments Using Exchange Account
For some reason I can't send attachments using my Exchange account on my iPhone. Pictures, Word docs, Excel Docs, doesn't matter. They just get stuck in my out box and I get the following message, "Cannot Send Mail - An error occurred while delivering this message." I can receive attachments just fine, but cannot send or forward them. If I use any of the other email accounts on my phone, it works fine. The Exchange account is the only issue. Is this some limitation with Exchange on an iPhone or something? Anyone ever have the same problem as was able to fix it? Thanks!
I've got 38 iPhones deployed running the 3.1.2 OS against an Exchange 2007 server. Several of my users complain about the same issue, and I've seen it myself. I have found a workaround of sorts - I've found that if I've sent a message with an attachment and I get a failure to send, if I manually browse down to the Sent Items folder, that forces a replication of the Sent Items. The next time I do a manual sync, the e-mail with the attachment will go.
I presume this has something to do with Exchange trying to put a copy of the e-mail in to your Sent Items at the same time the iPhone is trying to send the message.
Potentially, this might be solved by turning off the option to always store your sent e-mails in the Sent Items. I have not yet tested that as a workaround as from a corporate standpoint and an ease-of-use standpoint, we want that e-mail in the Sent Items for reference.
If anyone has any success with this fix, please let me know. -

Are you sure that the attachment file type is a supported file? Can you open the attachment on your computer?
If the answer to both questions is yes - try quitting the mail app completely and restart the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button. -
I can't insert attachments or edit them from previous mails when I am in hotmail. The insert bar remains passive. My hotmail works fine using explorer.
The Yahoo! Toolbar and the Babylon extension have been reported to cause that problem. They seem to invisibly extend downward over the top of the web page display area. Disable or uninstall those add-ons.

Mail 5: does not show some attachments if not config'd as Exchange
One of my email accounts resides on an Exchange 2010 server. I clean installed Lion the other day, but ever since early Snow Leopard builds, I had this issue where every now and again, emails received on that Exchange account would have attachments that did not show up when the message was viewed in Apple Mail. These are not unusual attachments. We're talking a .doc or two. An email with one attachment might appear attachment-less in Mail, and one with five attachments might appear as if it had four attachments in Mail.
The same is happening in Mail 5 on Lion. Here's how it goes:
1. When the account is configured as Exchange IMAP, a message received today with one .doc attachment appears without the attachment.
2. When the account is deleted and readded as IMAP, the same happens.
3. When the account is deleted and readded as good old Exchange, the message appears properly -- attachment and all.
Decided to try this after seeing that the attachment was showing just fine on my iPhone which connects via Exchange, not IMAP.
I'm curious. Anyone have any thoughts on why this is?I've seen this behavior on both Snow Leopard and Lion as well, although I haven't linked it to the mail protocol being used. Sometimes even on my iPhone and iPad. It's variable, unpredictable and inconsistent. I'm sure somewhere buried in the arcana that is modern multi-part MIME messages there's an answer, but I'll be darned if I know what it is. All I can suggest is filing a bug report with Apple.

Im trying to send out a word document via email. It tells me it cannot send because I have not yet set up an account with enterage. My email is active already with Apple regular mail program. How can I send it out through reg mail?
Save the Word document. Create your email in your normal mail application (Mail?), click on the add attachment icon (the paperclip if you are using Mail). Navigate to where you saved the Word file and select it. It should now appear as an attachment in your email. If you are sending it to a PC user and you are using Mail make sure 'Send Windows-friendly attachments' is selected in the edit menu. And if you don't want the attachment to display inline within the body of the email Control+Click on it and select 'view as icon'.

whenever someone sends me a file the Ipad labels it winmail.dat and wont allow me to open it...these are Word, Exce or jpgs. Does anyone know why this is and how to fix it? Also, how can you save attachments to a file on the IPad2
Is this a particular sender, or all of your attchments? Google winmail.dat and you will see a number of returns that can explain this, but in short, this is the way some e mail providers deal with attachments. If all of your e mail is coming that way, you need to change a setting on your isp set up. Perhaps stary here...

When I attach a file to outgoing mail it shows up in the body of the e-mail. How can i make it only show up at the end or elsewhere?
Edit > Attachments > Insert Attachments at End of Message. If a new message is the active window, the option applies only to that message. If you don't have a new message open, then the option becomes Always Insert Attachments at End of Message.

That's a good question. So, you would like to know if you can have the "Show Downloads" button, as illustrated above, always remain visible. I will answer the quesiton accordingly as this is how I understood it, correct me if I am wrong please.
The direct answer is no. There is a logic reason for this though.
If you clear your downloads from the list the icon disappears because there is no longer a list to view. The downloads however are not gone they are only absent from this list or log as it were. The downloaded files remain in your preferred or default downloads folder, which ever one is set.
No point in viewing a blank list so no icon. However; the moment you download another file, it will re-appear.
On a further note, the list is limited to a certain number so don't expect to be able to see a list spanning every download you've ever made.
By the way, try to right click something from the list, some options to trigger the selection will appear. It would be nice if the available triggers would change depending on the type of file you are right clicking over.
If you move a downloaded file to the trash and follow-up by emptying the trash, Safari's downloads continues to show the trashed file because it does not know that the file was trashed, unless, as an exmaple you right click the said item from the list and choose "Show in Finder". The following message will appear.
In Safari's Help menu, type "Download". You will find some more good help topics for further inquiry.
