Mail screwing up royally!

hopefully someone can help me on this problem. After installing Leopard and the updates on my new mini (1.83mhz C2D), I set up my mail account (POP cox.net account) and received in my inbox a week of emails, even though there are a month on emails on the server, that was the first problem. Now, any emails in my inbox that are previous to today are blank! The messages are in the receive pane, but when opening them or looking at them in the pane below the message pane, there is nothing there! The emails that I trashed, emails sent, and emails in the mailboxes that I imported over from my iMac, everything is there, the messages, the content, everything! But in my main inbox, only those emails received today have any content. I tried to fix this by removing the envelope index and let the program reinstall a new index, but then I lost all the emails older than today in the inbox, everything else is OK. What gives here? Any idea how to make this behave properly? Thanks!

The almost identical thing happened to me today as well. I had to restore from a time machine backup (only 2 days back) and everything is operating properly but my mail messages older than yesterday are blank in the body but still have the title & date of all the past messages. Even some but not all of the stored mail folders on my mac have the same problem. I did click to upgrading the mail program which says all messages will be migrated (or something like that)to the new version. I think this is an upgrade issue possibly. I need these old emails for my business. Please help.

I have been using Microsoft Entourage until I could no longer add attachments. I changed to Apple's Mail and don't know how to use it. I set it as my default mail but now email goes to Entourage, Bell South Web Mail and a little to Apple's Mail. Mail screwed up since patch??

Ok soooo basically ever since around 6 o PM clock CST yesterday my GMail account stopped accepting my username and password via edge, it works fine over wifi, but every time i try to access my gmail via edge it says user name and password not accepted, i havent changed any settings on my gmaill account since i only access it via my iphone, and i havent changed any settings on my iphone and it worked perfectly for the last month till 6pm last night...any ideas what has changed, i know people talk about disabling ssl, but ive always had it enabled and it worked fine, i disabled it and it hangs when checking for mail, it never goes through or else its completely sluggish and thats not good either...any ideas?

Try turning the account off, then on again. If that doesnt work, try deleting the account and recreating it.

Mail has crashed and cannot re-open

Mail has crashed - Computer crashed - running on external drive because internal is cooked and waiting for parts. Restarted computer with the option key down but mail will not open - get message mail need to import messages but then I get a ding bell and a message the import failed. iPhoto also need to be rebuilt - This computer is headed to the dumpster pretty soon if I cannot resolve this - just lost a $640.00 sale price on a new lens because friggen mail screw ups. Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Go to Library/Containers/com.apple.mail. Move the folder com.apple.mail to your desktop. You must move the entire folder, not just the contents.
Restart, re-launch Mail and test. If the problem is solved, recreate any required Mail settings and import any emails you want to save from the folder on the desktop. You can then put the folder in the Trash. If the problem remains, return the folder to where you got it replacing the one that is there.

.mac account in Mail.app won't download mail - it freezes

I just screenshared my mother for about 4 hours (there is about a 20 second lag time between every click i enter and the response on her end, maddening!! but that's another story).
Her AOL IMAP accounts are working fine in Mail.app, but her .mac account is not. It will not download any new mail that is sitting on the server. It shows that non-beachball circle-line progress thing, nonstop.
Weirder still, I went on her screen, composed an email to myself, and sent it. The Mail Activity showed that it was sending at speeds like 5 kbps... for 10 minutes, until I force quitted. However, I got the email in my account seconds after I sent it. So SOMEHOW the outgoing email is working, even though it froze her own Mail.app in a perpetual "Sending" progress circle.
The application will not quit... it must be force quit every time. I tried deleting the .mac account and re-adding it. I deleted the plist. I verified that the connection doctor has all green lights and says it logged into the server successfully. I tried using SSL and not SSL connections. This was an issue in 10.5.2 and persists in 10.5.3. She is on DSL plugged straight into the computer. All other internet functionality seems to be working normally.
WHAT could possibly be making Mail screw up the .mac account, but not an AOL IMAP account?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

I went to settings > mail, contacts, calendars and did not find a notifications setting. But that's not the issue. When I open the mail app and force an update, new email is not downloaded, even though I can see new email on my computer.

E-mail in iPhoto

Whenever I send a photo from iPhoto using Mail the picture does not come through properly - only part of the picture appears. However, if I switch to Entourage pictures go through perfectly. Any idea why Mail screws the pictures up?
Using iPhoto 4.0.3 and Mail 2.0.3 - just upgraded to Tiger but had this problem in Panther.

Hi again - my last suggestion would be to create another user account, log into this account and see if the same thing is happening. If it works properly then I think you have probably did 'something' to iPhoto or even Mail program that is casuing this and you may need to reinstall iPhoto... Good luck, Rick
BTW - if you do have Entourage, go into preferences and make sure it is not default app...

My mail app is malfunctioning

it is acting strangely & it has only been doing this for about a day now. The functions that involve keys work fine, but i cant cklick at all on it. I've looked for how to fix it but i cant find how to fix it.

I don't know about Tristan but I can say;
1- Previously left the SMTP servers I have (about 7 of them, mostly fully authenticated) using the 'typical ports' setting which presumably cycles between 25, 465 and 587.
2- I have had cases where 5 messages have failed to send but only 2 of them appear in the 'outbox'. In that case mail.app was showing as 'Sending' but I was unable to see what it was sending and which smtp server it was trying to use. There was no way to cancel it either (the activity window was no help).
3- I don't use 'Use this Server Only', I typically try every server I have.
The problem is that hotel ISPs typically even try to intercept SMTP over SSL, leading to Mail.app getting royally confused.
Is there any way I can get some better diagnostics on what's really happening here? I usually find that mail.app works OK until it starts trying to send a mail, so my feeling is that I should be concentrating on the SMTP stuff. I have now switched over to using port 587 (for SMTP over SSL) only in the vain hope that the hotel ISPs aren't watching that port- my suspicion is that mail.app is poking port 25 first, getting the intercepted server and then trying to use authenticated SMTP to that (spoofed) server and getting confused- that's born out by the certificate failures I often see when in hotels.

Mail (IMAP)hangs on copying sent message or RSS?

Mail has been working well using an ancient AOL account via IMAP,but now hangs if I select one or more sent emails (or RSS messages) and use the menu to copy them. A force quit is required.
If instead I try to copy several incoming messages, it opens a window indicating copying from server and the progress bar proceeds extremely to completion but it is not possible to paste the result (if it exists) anywhere (e.g., to a mailbox on my mac).
Otherwise mail is working in that incoming messages appear normally and outgoing messages proceed as before.
The copy failures have occurred since a couple of events/changes that may or may not have caused this:
1. Installed the last security update 2008-7(?)
2.a later system hang/near KP a couple of days ago (upper half inch of the screen went dark grey and everything froze, as if the KP screen was starting to show but couldn't even get that far.
I've since run Disk utility for permissions, then Applejack, then Diskwarrior with no effect on the situation. I rebuilt the mailboxes that were the desired sources and the target mailboxes also with no effect. I haven't tried anything like discarding mail plists.
Thanks for any suggestions on diagnosis or cure.

Help: POP Yahoo mail redownloading EVERYTHING

Hi,
When I installed Leopard with a fresh copy and setup my Apple Mail with Yahoo (via pop) all my messages began to download and were mark unread. Of course this was a hassle to go through each email again, but that's what you get with POP. Since then, everything has been sorted out, however, for no apparent reason today my Apple Mail client began redownloading EVERYTHING! What happened? Is there anyway to tell Apple mail to stop?

I have the same issue. With Yahoo, with Leopard and with Tiger. Now and then Mail wants to re-download all of the Yahoo emails - and right now there are 15000 or so.
There is no way to stop it - so I created a mail rule to filter everything older than a week into a "yahoo and mail screwed up again" folder. This is not a solution, but does solve one symptom. It does not solve the use of bandwidth issue though, and I do not want to delete my Yahoo emails as they make a handy backup.

Not once in 6 years have I had one false mail sent to me.
Now all of a sudden, see my Sign-in name.
Apple now forwards mail to me constantly from china
I'm tired of the lame option to bounce mail.
Not once does that option work. Iv'e been bouncing junk for 6 months.
I want severe block period if mail doesn't match my name exactly.
No wait,, this is not my job, I pay for this service.
This is starting to look like how Yahoo used to run their junk servers ten years ago.
Maybe I'm done with any of it.

Restore from back up does not recognize time machine drive

My wife's hard drive in her 2010 MB Pro decided to give up the ghost a few days ago, so I purchased a new hard drive for her, booted from the Snow Leopard Install disc that came with the computer. However, after the installation is complete, when it gives the option to "Restore from backup", it will not locate the drive with the Time Machine Backups. The drive with the time machine backups is a dedicated 500 Gig Seagate External, that is set up on the network through our Airport Extreme. When I plug the drive directly into the computer, the drive doesn't even show up on the list. When I plug it back into the router it will recognize it as the Time Machine Disk, but will say "Connection Failed" when I try to connect with it. I have watched several youtube videos and read several blogs, and it looks so easy, simply click on "Restore From Backup" and bang! You're in business, but my drive and its backups won't even show up!
After going through with the intitial set up, I can click on the Time Machine Icon, and choose to view other Time Machine disks, and it shows up there, and I can see about two (2) years worth of back ups; however, each time I boot from the install disks, it still doesn't show up in the "Restore from Backup" mode. Migration assistant shows the files, but when I migrated them, it says that I do not have permission to view the files. Also, when I enter the Time Machine it only shows a blue folder with "Macintosh HD" on it, and when I try to simply "Restore" that folder, it will start transfering files for about an hour (Maybe get up to 10-15 Gigs, and then it will say that it cannot replace or over right "Systems", and then stop the transfer.
Thinking that some of the drives were from when we upgraded to Lion, I redownloaded Lion, and it is more of the same.
I am in a really tight spot here, because I have been faithfully using Time Machine Backups, and was told that if a situation like this ever occurred I would be good to go with a new hard drive, or even a new computer. We have about 80 Gigs (not kidding) of family photos on the computer, and those are precious to my wife, so if nothing else I would just like to get those off of the drive.
If anyone could provide me with any tips as to
1) How to make Restore from Backup recognize the drive; or
2) Migrate the files, but actually have permission to view them; or
3) Any other way to Restore from Time Machine that I may be overlooking,
I would greatly appreciate it.

Well the first thing you should do is have a local professional image the TimeMachine drive to another drive, then you can install Data Rescue on your computer and use that to read the 1's and 0's of the imaged drive directly and recover any files out of the morrase that is TimeMachine.
TimeMachine is a freaking eyecandy abortion, when it screws up, it screws up royally. However it's easy and better than nothing for computer newbies who tend to delete stuff by accident.
Computer professionals prefer "imaging" or "cloning" which makes a exact duplicate of a drive in every detail and accessability. Carbon Copy Cloner is the choice software for that.
If you not comptuer savvy or want to take a risk, then I'd advise you to get a local PC/Mac data recovery expert to recover your files, they are still on the drive and somewhat accessible, but if you fool around too much TM can delete them as it "copies" your present new boot drive. Then data recovery could cost thousands for platter dissection if the TM drive is overwritten/updated by TM software.
So to be safe, get profesisonal data recovery help, and not the clueless types at the Genius bar.
FYI, once a TM drive has been infected with Lion, you can't use it with SL.
So it's best to stop and get a image, then decide to play with the image or allow the pro's to recover your files before they are really gone forever.

Image Corruption in ACR/Bridge CS 6:

Shooting 1D mk lV, all image shot in RAW; Mac Pro Dual Core Xeon, ATI Radeon HD 5770. Downloads are via card reader.
Bridge/ACR will randomly take the first image I open and corrupt it. It could be per set of images or just the first image of the day. This is usually not a problem as my first images are usually just test/set up shots. This morning it screwed me royally.
I edited a shoot last night and put my highlight images into a separate folder. I then did ACR corrections and ran a batch for logo'd sample images and sent them to the client.
This morning I start up my computer and open the highlight image folder, select the 5 highlights, click on 'open in camera raw' and they pop up and after 2 seconds the first image corrupts.
I have tried copying the image to other drives as well as to my Mac Pro laptop and it does the same thing every time. Purging cache for selection doesn't work.
Copying the original in finder to another drive doesn't work (this has worked in the past).
This has happened in the past and I did find a fix of deleting a certain file in the adobe library (and it recreates it). I did save the page where I found the fix but haven't been able to find it.
I have re-created the ACR cache as well as the Bridge caches. After recreating the caches and clicking 'purge cache for selection' it briefly pops back the original and then corrupts again.
I've tried increasing cache size and various cache options.
When I view the file in finder, the tiny thumbnail shows the correct image but the preview shows corrupted image.
If I view the image in Canon's Digital Photo Professional, it pops up for a second normally and then corrupts itself.
I'm guessing it's a deep cache issue...I have well over a million images that have passed through CS6. I regulary clean my caches but am I missing something somewhere???
Any suggestions from anyone???

Doubleclicking on the files in Bridge causes that quicktime or VLC or itunes (depending on the file format) will open that, but bridge does not handle anything?!
Bridge CC and Bridge CS6 both handle my .mov files from EOS 1Dx and iPhone without any problems. The show in the preview window and can be played with sound in this same window. (MacPro with 10.8.4)
Purging cache is what it is, it dumps the previous cache of the preview and forces Bridge to create a new one, nothing else is set to default.
First try a reset of preferences and hold down option key while restarting Bridge and choose reset prefs. then try again.

Problem: Images won't show up in animation.

I'm trying to get a series of images to animate in an applet. So far I haven't been able to work out what I've done wrong/altered incorrectly, because all I get on the applet is a blank light grey background. None of the pictures will show up, even though they are in the same directory.
The images are named F0.jpg, F1.jpg etc all the way up to F10.jpg.
Any help would be most appreciated since I can't see any part of the coding that would affect the images not showing up.

I think so. Why not have a look and be sure? Simply print the references.
The images are all in the same folder as
the java files. I've tried tweaking that part
slightly to see if any slight alteration might make a
difference, but so far I've found nothing works.That only means that you didn't get it correct in other attempts. You can't conclude that it's correct from that...
Then again, I'm not all that experienced with java.

knowing it.Haven't touched Applets for a long time, but since you ask here rather than at the Swing forum, I have three guesses:
1) Image file can't be read by Java. But I think it can handle jpgs.
2) Image file not found.
3) Image file found but not yet loaded. Try using ImageIcon instead in that case. it blocks until the image is available.

Won't Stay Logged In - Can't Save Password

I'm using Chrome. I can't stay logged in since the new bt log in changes.
On my home pc I normally just have one bookmarked link that takes me straight to my inbox.
With the new changes, I keep having to re-log in, sometimes even minutes after last logging in. There's also no option for Chrome to remember my password and no option on the website to remember my log in details.

I need help uninstalling the recent download I did of Adobe Flash Player.

I recently installed the newest update for Adobe Flash Player for my computer, but by doing so it no longer works for anything that I do.
I saw in the help that there is a way to uninstall the latest version and download an older version of it. Reading the instructions and then doing them is difficult for me, especially when it involves something as intense as this.
I was wondering if there was a way that I could get the instructions given to me verbally by a representative, say, over the phone. Because my biggest fear I'm having right now is that by doing it myself, I'm going to screw up royally and just make things even worse than they already are.
If this is possible in any way, shape, or form, that would be awesome and make me feel 1,000,000 times better. This has been an issue I've been having with my computer for a week and a half now, and I would REALLY like to rectify it and make it better.
