Mail sends during spell check

Hi
Since upgrading to OSX my Mac Mail keeps sending whilst I check the text and spell check. For instantce if I decide to change a word I try to overwrite and it sends. same scenario if I add a full stop. Has anyone had this problem and is their a fix?
Driving me mad to the point i am thinking of changing Mail app.
Thanks!

What OSX did you update to? And what machine are you running it on?

  • Please move the 'SEND' and 'SPELL CHECK' options away from each other, and when sending, ask the question, 'Are you sure you want to send now?' Thanks

The send and spell check options are next to each other. I can not tell you how many times I hit the send button be accident. When sending, and question of 'Are you sure you want to send now?', should be asked.
    Thanks

Actually, unless something has changed, you can set Thunderbird to run an automatic spell check when you click Send. That might be your best workaround.
Tools menu > Options > Composition panel > Spelling mini-tab
(You can display the classic menu bar by tapping the Alt key)
It might also be possible to customize the toolbar, but I think this might be safer.
Regarding a general confirmation for sending, I noticed some add-ons for that, but I don't have any personal recommendations.

  • During spell check (Pages), how to eliminate red underling?

    Hello:
During spell check (Pages), how to eliminate red underling?
This is a personal preference: I always spell check when finishing my work, don't want the visual distraction for the underlines.
    Thanks,
    Laurence Misterioso

    Laurence,
Go to the Edit menu and enter the Spelling settings there. Deselect "Check spelling as you type".

  • How to I edit Mail and Pages spell check

Would like to edit the file of words that the spell check uses for Mail and Pages.  I have erroneously had it "learn" the wrong spellings and would like to eliminate the erroneously spellings

My user dictionary file is located in my
    homefolder\library\spelling\en
I have, in the long past, edited that file using TextEdit.

  • Crash during spell check

I have CS3 and when I do a spell check of the entire document I get about half way and it crashes. I can spell check individual stories within the document, but not the entire document. Any ideas?

Presumably you've tried checking the story where it crashes?
You might want to try replacing your preferences. Also, is this problem related to a specific document, but not others (in which case it isn't prefs, and you should export the doc to .inx), or is it happening in all documents, old and new? What patch version of ID are you using? What version of Windows, how much RAM, etc.?

  • IDCS6 (PC) stops working during spell check

This is happening repeatedly. Our small office is using our own custom dictionary for spelling that I just recently created. Based on an article on another website IU have followed its suggestion for placing the dictionary on your server (rather than workstation C drive) so that all work stations can use and point to the same dictionary. Not only is the dictionary newly created (by exporting it from our old ID2 dictionary) but the entire IDCS6 installation is only a week old and is still being setup by me. Below arescreen shots that occur after using the spelling check for a minute or so. Any idea of what might be going on and how to fix it?

    Thx @ Peter
"Do you still get crashing if you move the dictionary back to the user profile where ID is expecting to find it?"  I have not tried that and probably will do so. While it'd help diagnose whether problem is that Indd does NOT like having dictionary on server, I really don't want to take the time. Indd Help clearly states and recommends that custom dictionary be on server in these circumstances so that every work station is applying the same spelling and hyphenation rules.
I appreciate your response and your unwillingness to bash Microsoft as I had, but my own experience is that Microsoft (and other large companies) often act in ways to promote their own solutions and products and intentionally or unintentionally make it more challenging for other software (or other products) to work with their operating system (or whatever it is that they sell).
If it seems warranted, I will report back here if from more actual use and experience I have something of value to add. Again thanks ...

  • Sending e mails after Spell Check

My e mails do not send after spell check is complete. The e mail goes through spell check and when I am done and close the spell check window it doesn't automatically send. I then have to click the send button again. Any suggestions?

It is working as I wanted now. In Mail I did the following: Mail>Preferences>Composing, then in the top dialogue box Composing I chose Check Spelling> When I click Send. Not a very complicated solution but it works for me. When I finish an e mail and click send it now goes through the spell check and then automatically sends once I finish the spell check. I hope that is what you were asking.

  • Spell check in Mavericks mail does not work properly

If I spell check on sending (seems a sensible idea) and want to make tweaks in the actual e-mail as well, the email will send mid spell check and tweaks - without full spell check and often half written corrections
This is an ongoing problem in other threads
Being bilingual (fluent in Mac and PC), this is definitely a Apple Mail problem and something those smart people at Apple should be able to fix.

  • How do I stop Mail from spell checking URLs and re: text

I send and receive emails with urls a lot and Mac Mail 2.0.5 spell check consistently asks for corrections to the urls. Is there some way to tell Mail not to spell check words with a /, @ or other symbols?
When I reply to someone elses email it allways tries to correct the orginal email also which I'd like to avoid.
Occasionally it catches words like "Thanks!!!" and I can't get rid of the spell check window untill I remove all the "!" symbols.
    Any help appreciated!!!

  • Spell checking in different languages in Mail

    Dear all,
I face the following problem when using Mail. I have many friends who speak many tongues and I'd like to be able to e-mail them back in their languages. So, how do I set the typing language in Mail so that spell check checks the text correctly for me?
The usual scenario is that I need to type in Italian when I normally use English (UK). Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Tom,
Thanks for the response. That's exactly what I was looking for.
    Thanks a million,

  • Spell check from top?

Is there a way to make the Mail spell check start from the top (or ignore the reply below)? I've seen some references to using "check as I type" as an option, but doesn't this then require that I go to each error and fix individually?
    Thanks

The spell checker for Mail leaves a lot to be desired. "Check as you go" highlights possible misspellings, however, unless I activate the spell checker via the menu, the e-mail will be sent without correcting the errors. Too much to remember.
I use the spell checker feature "when I click send". This seems to be the best option. However, it doesn't ignore the "reply below". Further, if I don't want the spell check, you can click on the red button and the e-mail is sent.
As far as your question about the spell checker starting at the beginning, when I click "send" the spell checker seems to start at the top of the e-mail.
Personally, I prefer the spell checker in Entourage, however, that feature in and of itself is not compelling enough for me to switch.

  • Spell checking multiple languages

I would like Mail to do spell checking while i type, but determine automatically the language the message is written in. (sometimes i write English mails, sometimes German.)
Any ideas or hints, how i could Mail perform that feat?
    Best regards,
    Gabriel.

    How about changing languages in
    Dictionary.app?
Not possible, currently only one (English) dictionary available for that.

  • Pages, other languages, spell check

I have Pages 08 and it serves me well but recently I have needed to use other languages and check spelling. Is there a language pack? Do I have to buy the new version? Other software? Anyone know? I'll bet someone does.
I have tried changing the language in Inspector and in system preferences but it doesn't seem to take effect. Meanwhile Mail is doing spell checks from what I guess  is the source to do this.

Language is an attribute of the text (like bold or color etc) so you have to select the text and apply a language to it from the Inspector.
Not all languages have dictionaries and not all the dictionaries are as comprehensive as the English versions.
You can get extra dictionaries from OpenOffice and add them to your system and there are also 3rd party dictionaries available.

Your code works for me in Forms 10.1.2.3 and JRE Java Plug-in 1.5.0_15 with IE 7 ...
    I am also using jacob.jar 1.8 ....
Why do not you try what I did ? Use the webutil demo form to test basic OLE functionality first ... then add your code to the Form ... that should test your webutil configuration ...

Let me know how that goes ...
