Hi Michael,
There is not general configuration, it depends on your system...
Ask your system administrator.

    Dear Sir/ Madam,
My Mail Server Hosted on outlook freely but services for same getting shutting from 31
    july 2014,
i want to continue the same product please advice me to get the same, i got the mail from outlook is follow
    Dear Outlook.com Customer,
About a month ago, we let you know that Outlook.com no longer supports new custom domain sign ups. As a current customer, we will continue to support the ability to log in to Outlook.com with your existing custom domain email address, but as of 31 July 2014,
you will no longer be able to add or remove accounts in your domain.
Instead, we recommend that administrators who wish to continue managing email addresses in their domain should consider Office 365 – Microsoft's premium online email service. By migrating to Office 365, you will be able to continue managing your custom domains,
as well as benefit from modern enterprise-class mail, collaboration and communication tools.
The previous email we sent you contained a complimentary 90-day subscription to Office 365 Small Business Premium for 5 users. This is a reminder that you need to redeem this offer before 15 July 2014.
You will still be able to log in to Outlook.com with your custom domain during your Office 365 subscription, even if you choose to cancel your Office 365 subscription.
    How to migrate your account
You can find a step-by-step guide to migrating your account here.
    Yours sincerely,
    The Outlook.com Team
    please help me,
my contact no is - +91-9619899231

    Hi,
Yes, as what Roady says, Outlook.com no longer supports new custom domain sign-ups. You can continue to login to Outlook.com with your existing custom domain email addresses. But after July 2014, domain administrators will no longer be able add or remove
    email accounts in your domain.
Please consider to move to Office 365 to get enhanced features and capabilities for modern enterprise-class mail, collaboration and communications. About how to move your custom domain to Office 365, please refer to:

  • HT1277 incoming mail server host name on ipad 3?

I updated my iPad 3 and lost one of my e-mail accounts...my @hotmail.com account is still showing up but my @me.com account is gone and I cannot figure out how to get it back on there. Specifically in the incoming mail server part...host name? Please help! I use this email for my business account.

Try this configuration assistant for iPad:

If setting up your ".me" account fails starting with "Other" in the assistant, then try iCloud and see if that helps.

  • HT201320 what is the incoming mail server host name and user names

    Hi there,
I am trying to add my school email account to my phone and I am able to fill in the
    Name
    Email
    and Description
but am not sure what I am supposed to fill out in the Incoming Mail Server spots:
    Host Name
    User Name
and the password is already filled in?
and Im not sure what the Outgoing Mail Server is either.

You'll have to ask someone at your school what the incoming server settings are for their email.  These differ for every email provider/account.

  • Trying to add my thunderbird work email account to my new iphone, how do I find my "incoming mail server" and "outgoing mail server" host names?

Got a new Iphone 6 and I need to add my work thunderbird email account onto the phone. It is asking me for the host name of my incoming and outgoing mail server and I have no idea what this means- please help!

First off there is no such thing as a Thunderbird email account. Email providers issue email accounts and Thunderbird is email client software and not a provider.
You can look at the server settings in Thunderbird to see the settings it is using or you could get a list from your provider.
In Thunderbird go to the menu bar and select Tools-Account Settings-Server Settings to see the Inbound settings and Tools-Server Settings-Outbging Server(SMTP) for Outbound settings.
No menu bar with Tools showing? Press the alt key.

  • How do I fix my iPod touch's problem with hotmail outgoing mail server?

I have just received a new replacement iPod touch 8Gb.
On my old model I used the house wifi network to connect to HOTMAIL in the mail app it would set the account up immediately and work perfectly.
This time, when I tried to set the account up I had a long delay while it verified account details. Then after opting to set up account without using SSL an account was generated with an error message to say I may not be able to send or receive mail.
Incoming mail is OK, outgoing is not working.
The error message told me that I needed to configure my outgoing mail server.
My default outgoing server is set to smtp.live.com and works on port 587.
I have an additional server set to 'on', which is also smtp.live.com working on port 465, which was set up when I tried to alter the port number on the default server. Still no outgoing mail.
    Any suggestions?

Followed your instructions and again, account verification failed using SSL.
I chose to create without SSL and got the following message:
'The SMTP server 'smtp.live.com' is not responding'. I accepted the details,
the email Inbox populated, and everything looks normal.
    Same error is occuring:
'Connection to outgoing server 'smtp.live.com' failed. Additional outgoing mail servers can be configured in settings>mail, contacts and calendars'
    The settings are as follows:
    Incoming mail server
    Host Name: pop3.live.com
    username: is correct
    password: is correct
    Outgoing SMTP:
    Primary server
    host name: smtp.live.com
    username: is correct
password: is correct (has been re-entered just in case)
    Use SSL: OFF
    Authentication: password
    server port 587
I have duplicate SMTP servers listed under 'Other SMTP servers' with exactly the same details as above so it seems as if the iPod is retaining some settings even after I delete account.
Also, I wonder if there is anything I need to get the network administrator to do, because he did ask for the Wi-Fi address of my previous iPod touch could it just be a case of allowing it as a specific device on our network?

Did you get any bounce back message when sending mail to Microsoft ?
I recommend you send a message to
[email protected] and include your ip address 212.129.50.221.
The Microsoft Online Services Technical Support will help you to remove your ip from black list.

  • Domain name/"primary DNS" name/mail host name/mail server name/mx name

    Hi,
I have registered my domain name (N.com) with an external dns server and created an MX record (mail.N.com) for it as well. My server sits behind a router and internet traffic is port(80)-forwarded to my server's fixed internal ip address (I can access my webpages from the internet just fine). When I initially setup the server I was asked to give it a "primary DNS name." I naturally assumed that N.com was supposed to be entered here, but that just caused all kinds of problems (though I still do not understand why). So I reinstalled and currently have server.N.com as the primary DNS name of the server (although it shows up in Server Admin and Workgroup Manager as server.local--why is that?)
I have had no luck getting any email from the internet with the default settings in mail services (domain name of N.com and host name of server.N.com). Having no luck with the defaults, I assumed that maybe I needed to change the host name to "mail.N.com" so that it matched the MX record. I also changed the user preferences in Workgroup Manager to receive mail from mail.N.com--but still no luck. Could someone tell me what I am doing wrong and how come none of the Mail Service literature mentions anything about what a mail "host name" is supposed to be? Is it supposed to be the same as the "Mail Server" name that Workgroup Manager asks each user for? and is it the same as the MX record name?
I am just needing some help to connect all these variously named, but undefined, dots.
Also, how come I can access webmail from the internet using www.N.com/webmail but can't do it from any computers within my physical network (I have to use IPaddress/webmail or server.local/webmail)?
Also, should my user email addresses be [email protected] or [email protected] (which is the current default)?
Thanks in advance and good luck!
    John

I had been told by a friend that ... regular email coming in from the internet would go through port 80
    Unfortunately you were misinformed.
My MX record needs the extra subname (such as "mail") in front of the domain name, right?
Not at all. A MX record for 'N.com' is entirely valid (expected, in fact).
An MX record tells remote mail servers where to send mail for any domain/subdomain. If you think about it, let's say you worked for Apple and you wanted people to be able to send email to [email protected], well then you need an MX record for 'apple.com'.
You can see if you dig MX apple.com that they actually have 9 MX records, but the point still stands.
Now, you might also have MX records for subdomains so that you can have [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], etc. Each of these subdomains would need a separate MX record.
So, in general, for any set of email addresses @[anything.]domain.com you have a MX record telling remote mail servers where to send that mail.
Of course the MX record name is mail.N.com, but I think you are implying that the in the Mail settings of Server Admin where it asks for domain name all I need to put there is the N.com, right?
What I mean is that you need to set the domain name to whatever domain name you expect to receive mail at.
If you want users to have email addresses in the form of [email protected], then you enter 'N.com'.
If you want users to have email addresses in the form of [email protected] then you enter 'mail.N.com'.
If you want both forms, enter one in the main domain and add the other(s) in the Advanced -> Hosting -> Local Host Aliases section.
Is there anything in the Mail settings that needs to have the full MX record name (mail.N.com)?
Yes. Either the 'domain name' or the 'Local Host Aliases' needs to contain the same thing as your MX record. That's because the MX record tells remote servers to send mail to this machine, but the machine won't accept the mail unless it is configured to do so.
What is the "host name" supposed to be?
This should be the name that remote servers see when this machine tries to send outgoing mail.
Ideally this should match the reverse DNS of your IP address, that way when it connects to a remote server it says "Hi, I'm $hostname" and the remote server can lookup the machine's IP address and see the same result. This will reduce the problem of remote servers thinking you're sending them spam.
If you only have a single IP address then this probably needs to be something like 'N.com'. If you don't have control over your reverse DNS then you're going to run into a problem.
Also in the user accounts (in Workgroup Manager) what should the "mail server name" be? Is it the host name or the domain name?
    Off hand, I don't know.
Also, why are all the default user email addresses [email protected] (the name I gave the server at setup)? Why doesn't the user accounts create [email protected] as the default address?
Presumably because the mail server says it is 'server.N.com' and therefore any accounts on that machine would be [email protected]. Changing the domain name (as above) should fix that.

  • DNS/web-server hosted off-site. How to set up Leopard server for mail?

    Hey Everyone,
Brand new xserve with leopard server 10.5.2. Currently, Our web and DNS server for our domain,"company.com" is co-located off-site with an MX record of "mail.company.com" pointed at the static IP of the office where our mail server is. I want to replace the mail server with the xserve. With that in mind, how do I configure the DNS on the xserve during initial configuration to reflect that? Give it a self-referencing FQDN like server.company.office and see if the mail service can handle the domain hosted elsewhere?
I'm pretty new to servers and would love be able to keep this all in Standard but I'm not afraid to jump into Advanced if need be. I've created a test domain through GoDaddy of "company2.com" with an MX record of "mail.company2.com" pointing at the IP address of the xserve. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Web host, mail server and FTP.

    Dear all:
I have some questions and will try to make my post a short one (although the questions aren't exactly simple). I have the need to set up my own web server, e-mail server and FTP server. It is my understanding (and I remember setting another computer I had 2 or 3 years ago this way) that OS X can be used for this without the need to have OS X server installed. I don't need (at least not for the for the immediate future) to have a server for my own local network. Basically all I need is a single computer where (1) I can host multiple web sites, (2) I can host my own e-mail that will correspond in number to the number of web sites (domain names) being hosted and (3) I can set-up as a FTP server so that my clients can log on and download files.
I have used VirtualHostX for virtual hosting as well as PureFTD Manager with good results in the past. I've also found both to be easy to use, with a good and intuitive GUI which is essential for someone with as little knowledge as I have of networking. My question now as to do with e-mail and how to set-up Mac OS X to work as an e-mail server.
Are there any applications you would suggest that would be simple to use, have a simple and intuitive user interface and also provide mailing list services along with e-mail services that you would recommend ? I've looked at a few but most of the ones I have found seem to require command line input and this is something I am not comfortable with. I need an application with a simple interface and allows things to be set-up in a straight forward manner (and preferably free instead of paid).
What would be your recommendations for this project ? Any recommendations, advice and suggestions you can offer will be very appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    Joseph

Perhaps you should give people more time to answer.
    1. You do not need a DNS on your server, ask the ISP to set up the MX record as they set up the A record.
    2. Not really enough information in your setup to say either way, but as it takes seconds to do and you have everything else needed - set it up anyway.
    3. Domain name: mydomain.com, Host name depends what you call it. If you don't have a name why not mail.mydomain.com and make you mx record point to that name. Perhaps that is what your A record is already.

  • 10.5.1 Broken Mail Server - virtual host configuration

    Hi,
I have been trying to set up my mail server (new 10.5.1 build) to run with virtual hosts. I read pterobyte's tutorial ( Making Virtual Mail Users in OS X 10.4/10.5 Server) and implemented his suggested workarounds. However, it doesn't seem to have worked. I am now concerned that I have screwed things up beyond reprieve and need help to get it working again.

Same issue here. I am current on all system updates. I have noticed this with any photoshop cs3 jpeg file. When using "mail", attached photoshop jpeg files show up as a plain text document "What???" Using Automator produces the same results. I did not have this problem with 10.5.1. I can't mail out any photoshop jpeg files?!@%* I just got off the phone with apple tech support and they told me that Adobe has not yet updated their software to comply with Leopard. Come on. Cover flow in Leopard 10.5.2 is still not working with Adobe photoshop jpeg files either. They Still show up pixelated. Yes, I know the work around by going into photoshop/preferences/file handling/image previews: Never Save. Yea, sure that works, but that is something that not any Mac user should have to do. I have had more problems dealing with pictures on my Mac than my Pc by far. Anybody else? Solution? Better Operating System?
