MAIL SET UP FOR COMCAST MAIL ON iPHONE

okay, i am totally new to this, so please excuse my lack of knowledge. i have comcast mail.
I click on Mail, click on other, which brings me to the set up screen. What is IMAP, POP, Exchange? I know my name, my address, and I imagine my description can be whatever i want to name it, right?
Outgoing Nail Server....
What do I put in on host name? (comcast.net) ? I know my user name and password,
What is outgoing mail server (SMTP)
Host name again.
Help!

There is no Windows or OS X version or format for the iPhone. You can activate an iPhone on a compatible Windows PC or Mac and then sync it with another computer - PC or Mac. Some sync their music and photos on a Mac and Address Book contacts and calendar events on a Windows PC.
Your Comcast account is a POP account.
Under Incoming Mail Server.
Host Name: mail.comcast.net
User Name: The portion of your Comcast email address in front of the @ sign only.
Password: Your password for this account which you should already know.
Under Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
Host Name: smtp.comcast.net:587 (separate 587 with a colon)
User Name: The portion of your Comcast email address in front of the @ sign only.
Password: Your password for the account - the same password used to check the incoming mail server for new messages.

Getting an error when I try to set up a Comcast email on Iphone

I'm trying to set up my comcast email on my iphone. I had called Comcast and got the appropriate incoming and outgoing mail server information to enter and chose to set it up as a POP bc that is what they told me it has to be and when I hit save and it verifies I keep getting this error: the POP server "mail.hmc1.comcast.net" is not responding. Check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the "Incoming mail server" field.
Does anyone have a solution to this?

How can I set up for contacts on my iPhone to replace contacts on my address book?

I have tried several ways. I read some suggestions about leaving only 1 contact in the address book and then syncing but it automatically deletes all my iPhones contacts and replaces it with only that one in the address book. What I want is for my Address Book contacts to be updated or replaced (by default) with those contacts on my iPhone. Please help. I am always adding new contacts to my iphone and changing peoples information and every time I sync it, it erases any changes to my iPhone and updates based on the address book. I want it to go the other way.

The received emails should show in two locations:
1. In the All Inboxes tab of Mail.
2. The Inbox for each mail account,
If your emails are not showing in these locations try quitting the mail app and then reset your iPhone.
Go to the Home screen and double click the Home button. That will reveal the row of recently used apps at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold on the app in question until it wiggles and displays a minus sign. Tap the minus sign to actually quit the app. Then tap anywhere on the screen above that bottom row to return the screen to normal.
To reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

If you selected open a new Apple ID account, go back a step and enter use existing Apple ID.
You will have to set up a separate iCloud account or your iPads will mirror each other.

You need an IMAP-type email service rather than a POP-type mail service. IMAP automatically does what you want. Contact your email provider to see if they offer IMAP.

Have you tried a reset? Hold down the home/power button until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.
Have you gone into the email settings and making sure the password are still there?

Yes I am using the in but app and set up using the yahoo option. I have moved the sliders to on for mail contacts calendar etc but I see nothing still. I have removed all other sources of contacts and still it's empty. Is there anyway to force a resync? Many thanks.

You cannot change the incoming mail ports on the iPhone, As KiltedTim mentions, if it works elsewhere on 3g and wifi, then it almost certainly is your employers firewall blocking access.
