Mail setup can't connect to server. IMAP error?

I'm trying to setup Mail. I get the error message "Logging in to the q.com IMAP server "mail.q.com" failed." Same error for gmail. The user name and password are correct - I went to the website and can log in. What is the problem? I've setup Mail on other computers without problem. The auto-setup doesn't give any options for troubleshooting.

I have the same problem, It's been two days. I'm curios is it something with goole removing labs... cause everything is fine with yahoo, I don't change anything in mail.app and everything is fine until the last two days...

I restarted and it fixed the problem.

  • Outgoing mail can't connect to server after update

I updated my iphone and ipad and desktop when the new update came out. My email works only on my iphone and ipad.  My computer recieves messages, but can not send them.  It says it is "offline" and "can't connect to server" uggggh. This has been going on for at least a month now.  I called Time Warner Cable and they basically said they could not help me.
    PLEASE HELP!!!

    Hello,
Who is your eMail provider, the part after the @ sign?
In Mail's Window Menu, choose Connection Doctor, any red dots for status, if so what is the message?
Then click the Show Details button & Check again.

  • I can't get my mail it keeps saying can't connect to server. Have I turned something off ?

I can't get my e mail to work it keeps saying can't connect to server. Have I turned something off?    help!!!!!! :))))

Under the email provider find the account from which you can't send (you mention Yahoo) and click on that, then the first thing on the next page is the email address so click on that and scroll down to advanced, there you'll find SSL settings. I can provide screenshots if you still require help although I don't have a Yahoo account the instructions are the same for any email account.

  • Can't connect to server to accept terms/conditons

after upgrading to ios 7, icloud is not working on iphone 4S—asks me to accept terms and conditions, but then says "can't connect to server" to do so.
Tried turing off and on, any others having this issue?
    Thanks

Feel so foolish. After deleting as you suggest, I realized that the mail I'm reading on my iPad is, in fact, the mail from the cloud. I was expecting an iCloud web page like I see on my computer. Apparently, that's not the case. If I've been receiving email on my iPad, then I'm already setup properly.
Thanks for you help anyway ..

  • HT5361 Mail.app can't connect to Gmail, but was working fine yesterday

Suddenly this morning gmail can't connect to server.  I tried changing the password, still nothing.  I'm getting mail in Gmail if I log into Google and I'm
getting it on my phone, just not on my MackBook Air.

  • LG Vortex - can't connect email server

I'm having issues trying to connect to my email account with the LG Vortex.
Just purchased yesterday. Keeps telling me I can't connect with server?
I did verify my user name & password with IP provider.
    It is a pop server
I'm technically challenged, is there anyone out there with advice?

Is this your first email account on your Vortex?  Did your ISP mention whether you need to have SSL On or Off?  Did you run through the Manual setup or just used the Defaults for a POP account?

  • Safari can't connect to server problem (just one website)

After I upgraded my mac about a week ago, I can't open a particular website using my home wifi (Safari can't connect to server) It lets me open page but one, which happens to be my mail website. However, when I use a public wifi, I can open that website without any problem. Any ideas why this happens?

    Linc.
I have been unable to connect to specific random favorite sites and tried your posts suggestion
"Boot into Recovery mode. From the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. While in Recovery, you'll have no access to your saved bookmarks or passwords, so make a note of those before you begin, if they're needed for the test.
Test. After testing, reboot as usual and post the results."
I was able to connect to all my unavailable sites. Can you help me discover what is preventing my access when not in Recovery mode. I Made the Safari preferences match the recovery mode Safari preferences so that doesn't seem to be the problem.
    I ran EtreCheck

  • Iphone 3 and 4 can not connect to server

We have been syncing e-mail to IPhone for 2 + years, Last night we stopped getting mail on our Iphones and other smart phones.
    Using Exchange 2003 server.
Rebooted twice today - not seeing any sync errors in event log
Deleted my account, hard boot of  IPhone and recreated account - still getting error “ can not connect to server” in mail
What is strange it is only mail – I can move an appointment and it updates my outlook calendar
    Any suggestions much appreciated!
