Mail: show flagged messages in all folders?

Mail's "Flagged" smart mailbox only displays flagged messages in my inbox. Can I make the smart mailbox display flagged mesages in all of my folders?

Well, I guess those are more "smart inboxes" and not "smart mailboxes" in iOS...

What is going on?  Is it possible some "spyware" has crept in?

There is an email address on my website that automatically forwards to my "regular" email address, but this problem predates setting up that website.  My primary email is a bellsouth account (AT&T) which switched to a Yahoo mail-supported service....so based on your comments, perhaps that is why the activity is looking weird.

  • Mail showing more messages being received than are received

I have been having something odd happen lately. When I open Mail, it shows incoming messages, just a bit ago it was 12, but nothing appeared in my inbox. Occasionally I catch subjects in the status bar, but it is too quick to see. I also have an iPhone that I receive mail on, et even if I have read 1 or 2 messages on my phone, then open mail, it still pulls like 6. I do not have A spam filter turned on, I tried turning it on but nothing appeared and it seems like I get all my mail, but I am curious about this issue, is anyone else seeing it?

    Hi all,
I finally solved my problem and felt like I should share my experience. The idea of changing the sorting/listing settings of Mail.app was indeed a good option. Unfortunately, it doesn't solve the issue on my iPhone or any other device/application accessing my data. Besides that, I didn't feel comfortable with this solution, since it didn't really fix my problem.
So here is what I did. I downloaded Mozilla's Thunderbird and set up my MobileMe account. After successfully retrieving all IMAP data I saved a copy of my complete IMAP folder structure locally. Afterwards I checked if I really had all messages and folders and deleted my data on MobileMe. Next step was uploading all my local messages/folders back to MobileMe again. I had about 3,5GB to transfer and it took me almost a night to finish this process.
After successfully transferring the data, I opened Mail.app and my all other devices/applications accessing that particular MobileMe account and had everything re-synchronized and Voilà Thunderbird transferred the messages with the received date correctly and Mail.app and other devices/applications displayed and sorted it accordingly. I deleted Thunderbird's email client and its associated files and folders, but I guess that application should be a keeper anyway.
So far I had the impression that this was all caused, because I transferred my local saved messages/folders to MobileMe through Microsoft Entourage. That application transmitted the date I transferred the message instead of using the message's header date settings.
    I hope this helped.
    Cheers!

  • OS X 10.5 Mail shows unread messages when there are none and get ghost messages

I have been searching for an ansswer to this delimma, but have found similar issues but none exactly the same.  I run 10.6 server and have mixed network users of 10.6 and 10.5 clients.  One of the users on 10.5 's mail app keeps showing unread messages, but there are no unread messages.  When they click on another mail box in the mail client or another folder the number changes, but ther always seems to be one or two.  The user also gets at least 2 blank e-mails in the mail app.  I have check the users web mail account and there are no blank e-mail messages or spam.  I tried to rebuild the mail box, and have also tried trashing the indexs, and they still get the same message.  Short of creating a new user does anyone have any suggestions?  None of my other users seem to have the same problem, although they do not use mail as much as this one user does.....

I get this issue every single day, and it is specifically reproducible. Here is the scenario:
    1) I have two mail accounts configured on my iPhone, one is my work account and is disabled on the phone, the other is my gmail account which is always enabled on my phone
    2) Each morning, when I head into work I enabled my work email account so I can start reading my work emails for the day. This downloads all the new messages from the server and displays them as unread.
    3) I read some of them, but not all of them.
    4) Once I get to my office, I read all of the rest of my new work emails from the Mail app on my MacBook Pro.
EXPECTED: The messages that are read on the mail app are updated as read messages
OBSERVED: On my iphone, not all of the messages have their statuses changed to read. Some of them always remain as unread messages
    5) Next, I delete some of the messages read from my computer from the email server altogether.
EXPECTED: These messages would also appear deleted when using the mail app on my iPhone
OBSERVED: Not only are the messages not deleted, but they are still listed as unread
The only way to resolve this each day is for me to select each message and view it for a second to have the unread message indicator removed. I have to turn off the mail account and turn it back on for it to correctly sync with the mail server and correct the mistakes.
There is clearly a problem within the iPhone mail app with retrieving updates from the mail servers.
I have an iPhone 4 running iOS 4.2.1 that I purchased in November. Before that, I had an iPhone 3G S and never experienced the issue on my 3G S. My MacBook Pro was used with both devices.

  • Why can't I see the rss mail box in mail? Where is the all folders in the mail?

Why can't I see the RSS mail box in mail in OS X Mountian Lion? Where is the all folders option in the mail?
    Thanks

    The previous Mail did have:
    MAILBOXES
    ON MY MAC
The above separated the mailboxes slightly.
Yes, the On My Mac has been removed and everthing comes under one heading of Mailboxes now.
All my mailboxes are there that I had before though.

  • Why is Mail showing new messages when nothings there?

I decided to delete the Apple RSS feed from my mail, and suddenly the mail icon on shows 17 new messages (the same amount that were present in the RSS feed when it was deleted) and I don't know how to get it to stop showing it.
This is really ******* me off because I never wanted a RSS feed in the first place, now that I get rid of it, I'm stuck with this huge red "17" on my mail icon.
So can somebody tell me how to get rid of it?

Nevermind. For some reason when I attempted to quit mail, the new messages dissappeared.

  • Apple Mail shows Blank Messages on Exchange Account

I have three email accounts. Normally, they all work well but more and more frequently my Exchange account shows a message in my inbox but when I click on it, the body is blank. I've clicked to check messages, resynchronized the server even deleted the account and reset it again. The problem still returns. Here is the oddest thing. I think it is only for email sent internally. That is email from outside of the organization don't exhibit this problem. Also, once I view an email from outside the organization, the internal email shows up again.
Another issue is that when I send an email using exchange to an internal recipient, I often receive the challenge to select a server and then it fails and I have to select it again. After selecting the Exchange server two or three times, it sends. Unfortunately, my recipients receive the message every time so they will get two or three copies of the same message.
We are using Exchnage server 2007.
    Any thoughts?

I manage an Exchange 2007 and I have been having this issue for over a month.  It was effecting all of the Mac Computers that we support.  The good news I was able to fix it last night after reading about a similar problem with Blackberry phones.  Unfortunately, you will need to either be the Exchange admin or have influence in your IT Department.
On the Exchange server the Performance Counters need to be verified and it is found in the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Perflib\009
When you viewing the key in explorer mode I found that it was basically blank.  It should read like the following:
    1 1847 2 System 4 Memory 6 % Processor Time...
    If its blank it corrupted.
Supposidly this was caused by the update to Service Pack 2 upgrade...  However, I did that a 6 + months ago.  The only change since then was that the server was virtualized to VMware.
Here is what you do to fix this:
(Note: This was done on a Windows 2008 R2 Sever...  However, it should work on 2003 and 2008 as well)
Launch the Windows Command Prompt (cmd), ensure that you run the Command Prompt as the Administrator.  For example, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right click Command Prompt and click Run As Administrator.
Change Directory to <root drive>\Windows\System32, the root drive is typically C:.  Run the following command
         lodctr /R
This will restore the base or core counters
Check the registry value under HKLM/Software/Microsoft/WindowsNT/CurrentVersion/Perflib/009 and ensure that the value Counter is no longer corrupted.
In the Command Prompt window, run the following command:
         wmiadap /f
This will force the reload of all counters in to the WMI repository.
Open Performance Monitor (perfmon.exe) and click the green + to Add, this will open Add Counters. Verify that the MSExchange counters exist and have Instances populated.
Restart the Microsoft Exchange Server computer.
    NOTE: This step is required.
    Hope this helps someone!

  • My IPad shows I have 1.1GB of mail and attachments. What am I not seeing? I have went into each account and deleted messages from all folders (inbox, sent and trash). It still shows that I have that much space used.

I could really use some help. Probably an easy fix, but I can't seem to figure it ou.

    Hello Kizzyk,
I would start with taking a look at the settings to make sure that you are able to send and receive messages. If everything looks good then the next step would be to remove the accounts and add them back in. Take a look at the article below for more information and details on how to troubleshoot your issue further.

  • 10.5 Mail: Hide unread message counts of folders? (or, how backup all mail)

Ok, this is a very confusing topic. I have connected Apple Care, and they understand what I'm trying to do, but say there is "no way" that it can be done. But I know there is a way so hopefully someone can help.
First, this is what I'm asking for...then I'll explain why. I am looking for a way to "hide" the unread mail counts of a SPECIFIC FOLDER. (not the in box, not all messages, ONLY messages in ONE folder.)
Here is why.... I finally got my mother using email with her Verizon DSL address in Mail.app. The problem is, she is one of those people that "deletes" just about every message she gets because she "doesn't need it anymore" But, there has been many times where she has deleted something that down the road might be needed - and therefore, it is lost. Sure, Time Machine is set up and could recover it, and there are other ways of getting things back, but is just too difficult, and those methods don't last forever.
So here is what I did to solve this and make it easy - I set up a RULE in mail.app that takes every message and COPIES it to a folder called "BACKUP." Now, she can delete things from her in box when she is done with them (which will make her happy) but down the road if the message is ever needed again, it is just a search or even a SPOTLIGHT search away! Or, you could just open the "backup" folder and see an index of ALL the messages. So I had this setup for a while and it was great....but there was one problem.... The folder "backup" would count un-read messages. So after a while, she would go to check her mail and see that she has 50 unread messages! (only 1 of which was really un-read in her in box, but the other 49 where old copies in the backup folder.) So I then edited the rule and found an action to mark the message as read. Time goes by and then I realize that NOTHING in being marked read. So even real unread messages in the in box would immediately be marked as read and would not come up as bolded or with the blue dot. So that became annoying as it was hard to see what was new and what wasn't. So then I came up with this idea of setting a rule that all of her Verizon email would be forwarded to another account (I set up a gmail account for her) so that all I messages would be forwarded there. Then, I setup gmail to forwarded them back thinking it would be easy to setup a rule that says any message coming from "gmail account" would be moved to folder and marked as read. I then get a panic phone call saying..."my inbox keeps getting hundreds of unread messages...there all the same thing! I then log in to see that one new message was being pushed back and forth between Mail.app and gmail in an endless loop! so I had to shut the forwarding to stop that!
So as you can see....this is very difficult, but yet the problem is so simple and should have an easy fix. All I want is a way to backup all incoming messages, and keep them stored in a folder that marks them as read.
Could anyone PLEASE help me out with this? _Apple says there is no way to do this because of the limitations in the Rules that mail.app provides_....but it does give me the option to run an Apple Script. _AppleCare said that it could easily be done via an Apple Script_, but I have NO CLUE on how to even start that! Even the easy tutorials I tried left me confused.
    So - ANY ideas????
Thank you SO much in advance for anyone that could help out!
    -Scott

Sorry I am marking this solved, but it never was.
The best thing that could be done is to rely on Time Machine, or forward all of your incoming email to another address.
Apparently, there is no way to do what I asked. But there should be. So Apple, please fix this.
Again, sorry I am marking it as solved.

  • Junk mail shows 30 messages but none showing up in actual list

Ok, don't I have to rebuild something to solve this problem? Junk mail is showing I have 53 messages in it but none are in the actual list of messages. How do I fix this?

Alright, I think I have a solution, or at least it worked for me. It's a bit of a workaround but it does the trick.
    1. Created a new user in "Accounts"
    2. Set up the email account freshly in my new user mail
    3. Once I verified that it worked I copied my com.apple.mail.plist which is in user/library/preferences/... to a hard drive.
    4. I copied or archived/compressed my Mail folder which is in user/library.. and copied that to my external hard drive.
    5. I went back to my "Account" user with the corrupt email account and went to my Mail folder and archived and compressed that folder and copied it to my hard drive under a different mail name(So not to overwrite the other mail archive. This is only to be able to import mail back into my account once I've got mail working again.
    6. Went to my hard drive and to the com.apple.mail.plist and I overwrite the previous plist in the preferences folder on my /user/library/preferences/...
    7. I uncompressed the NEW EMAIL MAIL folder on my external hard drive, and then I dragged and copied it over the other MAIL folder in my user/library/... folder.
    8. I opened my mail to find everything clean but my new email account from the other user created.
    9. I began importing my old mail and then dragging it back into my INBOX to repopulate my mail. I then did the same for my signatures, mailboxes and whatever else I needed.
Everything seems to be working great so far, will let you know if I come across any hiccups. Hope this works for all of you.

  • Folder size showing for some, not all folders

    I am Mountain Lion 10.8.5.
This is a common problem, but couldn't find any answers specific to Mountain Lion or my exact problem.
I wanted to see folder sizes in Finder, which is turned off by default. I went into "Show View Options" and then checked "Calculate All Sizes". I then click on "Use as Defaults" button, which goes from black to gray when I click it.
I would assume "Use As Defaults" would apply for the entire hard drive. But it seems to be applied randomly. Some folders have sizes, some don't. Sometimes folders will not have the size shown but subfolders will.
    Any ideas?

Thanks to everyone for their replies - I thought that it was just me with this issue but clearly not. Also thank you to Mil_Prep and S2Linda's suggestions, unfortunately all three of my email accounts do not have a "Mail Days To Sync" option - I believe that this option only appears in Mail settings if the account is an exchange email account. Even if I was able to adjust the time period of emails to sync, I don't think that it would help because the email(s) that are going missing can be as recent as one day old, leaving all my earlier emails in the same folder intact - some of which can go back to the year 2002 for instance. I am still convinced that it is a bug with headers in iOS5. Last week I even had a related problem where I had a new email merge with an old email. The senders email address, subject title and date remained the same but the body of the text was replaced with an old email from 2006! Very odd....

  • Mail showing unread messages in dock but not in application

At first it was just on one of my computers but now it is on all three of my computers and they each show a different number. I have dleeted my mail accounts and then readded them in mail preferences and that works for a sec but not for very long. it is very annoying....

In System Preferences > Notification Center, select Mail in the left hand column, and check the box, "Badge app icon" toward the bottom on the right.

  • Apple Mail shows duplicate message in Sent mailbox - HOW TO FIX IT?

I have sent a message with Apple Mail 7.3 on Mac with OS X Mavericks 10.9.3, and it shows DUPLICATED in the Sent mailbox of Mail. I mean, two entries with the very same message inside are displayed, yet, as said, I only sent it once! I am using POP.
Selecting "Mailbox - Rebuild", quitting and opening Mail, repairing permissions with Apple Disk Utility, restarting the Mac, and even resetting the PRAM does not fix it.
I have seen the following article, but cannot find the "MessageSorting.plist" in Mavericks that it indicates:
How to Fix Duplicate Emails Sent From Apple Email
    http://www.ehow.com/how_12135498_fix-duplicate-emails-sent-apple-email.html
Any idea on how to prevent this duplication behavior (beyond deleting one of such messages, which, of course, I can do); I mean, to fixing whatever is corrupted and prevent such behavior happening again in the future?
What is the equivalent of "MessageSorting.plist" in Mavericks to do what indicates the above article?
    Thanks.

I have exactly the same problem. Didn't find a solution yet.

  • Inbox in Mail showing (4294963841 messages) but inbox is empty

in OS X 10.5.7 while using Mail 3.6 (935/935.3) My inbox header shows:
    Inbox (4294963841 messages)
but my inbox is empty. This started occurring after upgrading to 10.5.7
    M
    XMLA

I'm having the same problem and have only noticed it since upgrading to 10.5.7. I've tried rebuilding the mailbox a few times, disabling the GrowlMail bundle, vacuuming Mail's SQLite database, and even tdeleting the account and starting over. (It's a Gmail account I connect to via IMAP.) And yet:
    Inbox (4294966402 messages)
And the inbox is empty. I sent it an email and I get this report:
    Inbox (4294967161 messages, 1 unread)
Not sure how one message counts as over 700, but there you go.
This is one of two Gmail accounts I check separately, and the other account is not behaving in this manner.
Mail also has some trouble quitting—I often have to force quit it. Not sure of those are related or not, but I have noticed it. Otherwise, this odd reporting of messages is benign, but bizarre.

  • How to make mail show a message accurately?

    I recently upgraded to OS X 10.9.
Now, when I open a message in Mail, it is doing two things that are creating significant difficulty for me:
    1. It is grabbing other, unrelated messages, and showing them as though they are part of the message I clicked on, even though they are not.
    2. It is supressing messages that are part of the thread of the message I clicked on.
I have never experienced behavior like this with Mail from the older operating systems.
Is there any way to cause Mail in OS X 10.9 to behave like a normal email client? By this, I mean:
    1. When I click on a message, it shows me the message I clicked on, and
    2. The content of the message contains the actual content of the message (i.e. nothing is taken away, nothing is supressed), and
    3. The message reflects the actual message, and does not include any other messages added into it by Apple which were never part of the message
    Is this possible?
    I have tried the following:
    Mail, Preferences, Viewing
    - Use classic layout
    - Unchecked "include related messages"
I can't find any other setting that seems relevant to this behavior.

I can get my mail to go full screen if i hold it 'portrait' (tall way up instead of short and wide). click on a message and it fills the whole screen.
