Mail showing letters as an A in a box

Some, not all, of my emails are showing in mail as a capital A in a box. I can copy the AAAAAAA, paste elsewhere (in word on the same computer) and it shows the complete proper letters but I can't seem to show them in mail. Very annoying when you receive as much email as I do. Could I be missing fonts in mail? I just purchased this Mac a few weeks ago.
Update: I figured out it's not displaying Arial fonts in the email display section of mail - it is, however, displaying the message properly in the preview panel on the left.

Guys, I had the same problem and just got off the phone with AppleCare. They wer enoit sure what the bug was, but corrected it by going into mail preferneces, changing the message font to ANYTHING. Then quit mail. Go back into mail, change the message font back to whatever it was, quit mail. Get back in a viola.
Hope it helps!

It pains me to hear about your experience with the Home Phone Connect.  This device usually works seamlessly and is a great alternative to a landline phone.  It sounds like we've done our fair share of work on your account here.  I'm going to go ahead and send you a Private Message so that we can access your account and review any open tickets for you.  I look forward to speaking with you.

  • 10.9.2 Mail - Shows 5 flagged messages;  clicked - no messages in the list

My upgrade from OS X Lion 10.7.5 to OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 was fairly straightforward.   No major issues.
However, Mail shows 5 flagged messages.  When clicking on Flagged indicator, there are no message in the list.    Strange.   Everything else appears to work as expected.

Is an external display connected and turned off? If not, open Mission Control. Do you see the window(s) in any other spaces?

  • IOS mail showing garbled headers

    Hi,
When I receive e-mails on my iPad from e.g. Gmail, and the sender has a name configured with non-standard characters like "André" or "König", mail shows garbage in the From: field. It doesn't happen if such an address is in the Cc field.
All other mail clients that I tried show the header correctly. If I check the raw header, it shows up like a proper RFC2047 compliant header, like =?iso-8859-1?B?<base64-encoded string>?=.
Does anyone have pointers to the cause of this issue? I have been googling for a while now and somehow I've run out of Google-Fu credits.
    Regards,
    Frank

  • Mail shows message count even if deleted.

Mail shows 970 unread emails (in two accounts), however all have been read and deleted from phone. When showing empty, the MAIL APP icon still shows 970 messages. Where are they ? Thanks for your help. J

"Repair Disk Permissions" from Disk Utility may help.
You can also re-install the latest (10.4.6) combo update.

  • Since Leopard upgrade Mail show received time 1 hour off

Upgrade to Leopard a few days ago. Now Mail shows email receipt time 1 hour off.
Example: I just sent myself a message at 5:19pm. Received it showing 6:19pm.
My system is set to CST. Why is Mail showing the wrong time and how is it fixed?

The same mail received in Entourage shows the correct time. It always showed the correct time in Mail until I upgraded to Leopard two days ago.
Thus, it does have something to do with the software not the server.
I can replicate it over and over very easily.

  • Mail shows it is receiving more messages than actually appear

Mail shows that there more emails being downloaded than actually appear in my inbox. I have checked other folders (Spam, etc) to see where the extra messages disappear to.
Cannot see that there is a connection between incoming and received (i.e. cannot see that there are twice as many expected than actually appear, etc).
I have multiple accounts, so I cannot tell if it relates to a particular account.
    Thanks

Since we know it's not sending multiple emails, and this is a POP account you're having a problem with, we can try two things:
    1. Quit Mail.
    2. Go to Home/Library/Mail and delete the Envelope Index file, and the account mailbox folder for your IMAP account (it probably begins with "IMAP-") to the Trash. You don't need to empty the Trash yet, just move these items there.
    3. Restart Mail and let it reindex your mail, and then check to see if the problem goes away.

  • Mail shows "on my mac" three times after import

After I imported old mac mail files into mail after a clean install. Mail shows "ON MY MAC" three times in the box pane. Only one will collapse. Any ideas on how to get rid of this?

  • I just upgraded my OS to "Lion" and would like to make the Mail icons/lettering smaller. Can anyone tell me how to do that?

How does one make Mail icons smaller?

    Howdy jandbfy,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you’re interested in changing the icon size in Mail for Mac OS X Lion. The article linked below provides information about customizing the sidebar in Mail and will walk you through the process of changing the icon size.
Lion Mail: Show or hide the sidebar
To adjust the size of the icons in the sidebar, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click General, and then select a sidebar icon size.
Also, you may be intersted in this article which provides details about customizing the toolbar in Mail.

  • My mail shows that I have 4 messages, but shows no mail when I try to select a message.

Why does my mail show I have 4 messages, but shows no mail when I go to the mailboxes to select?

I don!t know if this solved my mail problem myself. But, I sent a test message to myself to my iPad from my iMac. The message numbers cleared and reset to the correct amount after I read and deleted my test message.

when I am sending one message, mac mail shows sending several (6 last time), is it virus?
mac mail also freezes from time to time and closes for no reason

It is not a virus. It's a bug in Mail that fails to reset that count, so it keeps incrementing each time you send a message. When it says it's sending 6 messages, that really just means you're sending the 6th message since you last opened Mail.

Mail shows in the doc, but when clicked or doubled clicked does not open on the desktop, HELP !

    Try restarting your Mac.
Open Termimal (Applications/Utilities/Terminal)Try entering this command: killall Dock, and then hit enter
Try dragging the Mail icon out of the dock, then let it disappear in a puff of smoke. Then from Applications/Mail try dragging the Mail icon back into the dock, and see if it works.
Does Mail open otherwise? Like if you try opening it from your Applications folder?if it doesn't:
Boot into your recovery partition (restart, hold down ⌘R until you see the Apple logo), and use Disk Utility to repair your hard drive. Repair permissions too while you're there. OS X: About OS X Recovery
if that doesn't work: reinstall Mavericks over your current installation.

  • How do I make Mail show unread msgs in bold?

    Hi-
In the preferences for Mail 5.1 there exists an option to "show unread messages with bold font".
Checked or unchecked the unread messages look just like read ones.
Is there a fix for this?  I tried to make a Rule but couldn't find "is unread" on the list.
Actually I would settle for almost any difference; background color, italic, font color.
How do I make Mail show unread msgs differently?
thanks in advance for your help.

Some more ideas on Smart Mailboxes.
Please note that a Smart Mailbox does not move any email. It is just a search that collects matching email and displays them all together. You can move emails from the Smart Mailbox, and it will move the email from wherever it happens to be, into the folder you drop it into (except another smart mailbox)
You can create smart mailboxes to group emails by date, also. I've got Last Week, This Week, and This Month set up. Notice how you can drop smart mailboxes on top of one another to group them. It doesn't affect the search that is conducted, just puts them together. You can also add that group of Smart Mailboxes to the toolbar.
I use smart mailboxes for certain mailing lists where I just want to read and delete the list email, not move it into a mailbox for long-term storage. So, I create a smart mailbox for those list emails and I can show all the ones I haven't read/deleted.
