  • Why doesn't Apple mail show the content of messages in my Exchange email account?

When I open Mail and click on my exchange account the messages all show no content.  I have tried deleting and adding the account, but the same thing happens--no content in the messages.

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
Then when restarted, highlight that inbox & choose Rebuild from the Mailbox menu item.

  • Both our logins in Mail show the same email address -- should be different

    We recently changed email providers.
Both our new emails end in "gmail.com." But we use different names/addresses/signatures. I am the main login to the computer and the wrong address shows up exclusively only when my wife sends out a message (though not consistently!). Mail handles both the addresses I myself use (iCloud.com as well as Gmail) with no problems. Howcum? How can I fix this? (FYI: There was no problem with our previous email addresses, before the change.)
And further to the topic of Mail: often, Mail locks up and I have to Force Quit to get back to work with Mail.
And there's another peculiar habit it has picked up. After I select some old emails, right click and ask the machine to Send to Trash . . . it sometimes says it can't. "Could not be moved to Trash." Doesn't tell me why, though.
This is not on a level with solving the Ebola crisis. But I sure would like to get it under control.
Thanks for any help you may have.

Don't change a thing. You both already have separate accounts. When you set up her Mail account be sure you are logged into her account at the time. Also, you have to configure an SMTP or Send Mail server. That will be the same in her account as in your account if you both use the same email provider.
When you each send an email from your respective accounts they may show that the email was sent by the wrong party because you have not configured who to show as the sender in Mail's preferences - click on the Composing icon in the toolbar. Each account should be made different so that her mail is sent by her while yours is sent by you.

  • TS3276 How do I set up Mail to show the number of messages in each of my mailboxes?

I just upgraded to Yosemite yesterday and am getting used to how things look. I'm almost positive that yesterday my Mail inbox showed the number of messages that were there, but now there is nothing. However, the number of flagged messages is shown. Any help with this? It's just a format thing, but I like to know how many emails I have in my inbox. Thanks!

Yes, I can see the number of messages, including unread, in the application title bar:
This is temporarily hidden in full screen view but re-appears if you hover the cursor over the top of the title bar.
The screenshot above is from an iCloud account, and I get the same with a gmail account, but I don't have an Exchange account I can test.

Can you log on to the email account via webmail in a web browser, view the email and delete it from there if necessary.

Did you check your user name and password in Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...tap your email account, tap SMTP, then tap the primary server name.  Make sure the settings there are correct.

Do you have the Contact Sidebar turned on in the Write window? If not, open a write window and press F9. Go down the list and select the contact or contacts for the message. Hold the control key while clicking contacts to select more than one. Then use one of the Add To buttons at the bottom on the sidebar to place in address fields.

  • Help! I've received at least 30 of the same mail message!

Every 2 minutes I receive the same mail message and I have no idea how to make it stop! It's clogging my inbox and irritating me to no end! This email is from a known sender, and I don't want to permanently block them. Please help me!

Once you've contacted the sender, if the mail continues, you can easily (since it's the same mail w/ the same subject from the same sender) make a rule to delete, junk or file it read or unread. Look under Preferences>Rules

  • How do I make it so my gmail account on my computer and online shows the same emails that are showing in the inbox of the mail app?

Every time I look online at my gmail account the inbox there is compleatly different than when I look on the Iphone mail app under my gmail account. I have tried syncing the account multiple times and have had no result. I can't seem to get the messages that are really in my gmail inbox to appear on my iphone gmail account.

I have a gmail account as well as an email account with my ISP Ozemail.  The mail setup on the iPhone is such that when I check mail using the iPhone mail app I see all of the mail that was sent to both accounts.  Likewise when I look at gmail on my computer I have gmail set up there so that any mail sent to the Ozemail account appears in the gmail inbox.  When I send mail from my phone it appears in the outbox on the phone as well as the outbox in gmail on my computer.  On the computer I made sure that in gmail settings I have engaged the checking of mail from other accounts using Pop3.

  • Mail doesn't download Mail;  shows  "124 of 124 messages" in Activity.

My girlfriend hasn't been able to get mail from one account for the last 30 hours, using her unibody MacBook (10.5.8) . Her 4 peers, using various Macs, are able to get their mail from the same server.
Mail logs into the server fine, but messages don't download and the Activity window immediately shows the number of messages as if it were downloading the last of her messages -- for example, it now shows "127 of 127 messages" -- and then goes blank as if it has completed downloading.
If there is any error message, it goes by too quickly to read.
How can we figure out what's going on? Is there a way to make the Activity messages persist? Is there some hidden switch that gets Mail to log its activity?

    Hello there,
It seems we face the kind of same trouble. Now here is the way I solved it, but I am not sure it is academic although it worked. But before you choose to try this (when in deep shxxxxxt, it doesn't cost much to take some risks, does it), maybe try with the very last step which is to close or force close mail, get rid of the Mail app in the Dock (if you use this way of accessing Mail) and open Mail from the Applications folder on your hard disk. As mentioned, this is what I did at the end of the process I explain below and now Mail works like a charm again. So maybe this simple step would work too, but I don't know.
Now for what I really did: I accessed the Library (on my account, not on the hard disk – System 10.5.8). In this Library folder, there are 2 folders that you have to open. FIrst, the Preferences. In this folder, get rid of com.apple.mail.plist Then, in this same Library folder, there is one folder called Mail. I don't know what is in yours, but in mine I got rid of all documents dated with today's and yesterday's date or dates since when the trouble starded. Some of the documents are: AvailableFeeds, BackupTOC.plist, Envelope Index, DefaultCounts, MessageRules.plist, etc. (basically everything with a .plist and as mentioned everything dated very recent. They are sub-folders in that folders, such as POP-(account-name)@(provider).com, in which there are other subfolders named Messages. In this Messages folder, there are documents numbered with a .emlx extension. I got rid of all of those too.
When I deleted all these documents, I nervously restarted my computer then as mentioned above, I got rid of my Mail access from the Dock and opened Mail from the Applications folder on the hard disk. When you do so, there are some prompts, you click OK as if it was the first time you use Mail.
At the end of this process, Mail was opened and miraculously it worked like a charm.
As I said, I am not a guru, I don't know if this way is the way to go, but it worked for me.
    Good luck

  • IPad mail shows too many unread messages

    iOS 7.1.2(11D257)
    iPad model MC733LL/A
The mail icon in the iPad dock shows 2,685 unread messages, in spite of the fact that all messages have been deleted from within mail. When you open Mail, the offending In Box shows the same number.  Looking in that mailbox, it says No Mail in the middle of the sidebar, but at the bottom it says "Updated Just Now, 2,685 Unread".
No iCloud or synching is involved.
I have already rebooted, to no avail.
Is there some way to force a re-download of Mail?

Yes, we tried that already, didn't work. We are lugging the whole iMac to the Genius Bar today, blech.

When trying to update my Mail Account Mailbox Behaviours settings, after making the changes when I try to close the settings pane the following messages occur: Invalid Incoming Mail Server The “Incoming Mail Server” field cannot be empty. The incoming mail server box has in light grey colour: p02-imap.mail.me.com in it and I cannot edit its content. Any ideas what is going on and how to fix it?

    Hi all,
Mattreichenbach is probably on the right track here with a reset of settings.  I think I've determined the issue has to do with cached account information and inconsistencies for the account name.  This seems to crop up when I've changed my password and it hasn't propagated fully to all the servers, devices, certificates, etc.
Hopefully many here are on their way to restoration of service by now but it's clear that a lot of people are having the same issues.  Very frustrating and definitely something Apple needs to resolve:  incoming mail server field grayed out, incorrect autopopulation of different fields, other unanticipated behaviors.  If you're still having issues, though, here's what worked for me...
First, head to the iCloud preferences pane in System Configuration and choose "Sign Out".  When I did this it prompted me with a number of "are you sure" type questions about retaining information on my local machine.  I chose to delete/remove the info each time simply because it should all be restored by the cloud and I didn't want to risk a massive duplication of my data... I will say, I'm back up and running with no issues so I suspect you can make the same delete/remove choices...  But use your own judgment.  I don't want you to lose any data (ie.. please use care as you do this because I cannot bear the thought of causing anyone to experience the pain of data loss).
Once you've signed out of iCloud, restart your system.  When you get back in, head to the Mail, Contacts and Calendars section of your System Preferences and add your account back by choosing the brushed aluminum "iCloud" button.  When it asks for your account name, use your @iCloud.com email address.  I am all but certain my issue had started because one of my devices (iPhone or whatever) had been set up with an email alias specified instead of my @iCloud.com address.
Apple, if you're reading through any of these issues (there are TONS of users having this same problem).  Take note, that your icloud service somewhat frequently is not responding and yet tells the user that the password is wrong and this prompts people to be changing their passwords unnecessarily.  This has happened to me on numerous occasions.  Also, I noticed that last week's outage corresponded to a VERY similar outage exactly one year ago to the day.  Sounds like planned maintenance to me and I think you could do a better job notifying folks so we're not wasting HUGE amounts of time troubleshooting a problem that we have no hope of fixing.
Hope that helps some of you!

  • Can't use iPhone and Mail at the same time

When my iPhone is on I can't receive Apple Mail on my computer. I get an error message on the computer that says another client is using the mail (or something to that effect). If I turn off the iPhone the error message usually disappears on my computer allowing me to access mail. Is there something I can do so I can keep my iPhone on and also get Apple Mail at the same time?

    Never seeing this problem.
Are you using a MobileMe IMAP account or another provider and account? Is problem when using the Apple Mail application in OS 10.4.11 on your listed G5?
