Mail shows a ? where photos should be

In the past I was able to see photos in my mail. Now when I open up an email there is a ? where the photos used to be. I looked at some of the settings but I haven't been able to resolve this yet. Thanks for any help!

OK I sent myself a photo as was able to display it. The photos in the email I think they are imbedded in the email. If I right click on the photos they do not show up as a link. They display properly in Yahoo Mail and did also display on my Iphone at one time. I was thinking I set something that caused this problem. Thanks again for the help.

  • Photobooth & iPhoto show black screen where photos should be??

My iPhoto shows a black screen whenever I click on a picture. I can't see the photo when I want to edit it and it does not let me enlarge any of the pictures.
Also, my Photo Booth shows a black screen where its supposed to show the webcam picture. If I click on the white space where the thumbnails of previous pictures are supposed to show up, it pops up a different screen with the pictures already taken. But, I still cannot see the webcam picture.
If anybody could help solve this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks!!

You may have some damaged software.
If the problems are the same after restarting your Mac, reinstall Mac OS X 10.9.

  • Question Mark Icon appears in frame where photo should be

I have APAS edition 3.2 on my IBM PC. with at least 100 gigs not used in the hard drive. When I open my catalogs, a blue picture frame appears in the frame instead of the photo. When I click on the blue frame the photo still doesn't appear. I know the photos are in my hard drive as I have found them and put them all into a folder on my desktop. What can I do ? Thanks - Harry

    Hey Harry,
This means that you have either moved or renamed your files. Please check if you have.
    Cheers.

  • HT1349 Need serial number and it is not showing up where it should be...

my iphone was lost (or stolen) and i need the serial number and IMEI number in order to report it to insurance company. However, when i go into itunes (10) and click on devices (as instructed), my iphone shows up  in the list of devices...but when i "hover" over it  with the arrow, ONLY my phone # appears. No other #s. Why? Could it be because I has the phone service interrupted? Or could it be that someone stole the phone and wiped it?  It no longer shows up on my list of devices in icloud "find my iphone".
    please help! thank you.

    Hi Modular747,
Thanks for your question...I sure thought I had backed it up on itunes. In the "device" list under "preferences", it does show one back up for this phone  -- and when I "hover" my mouse over the back up, the phone number appears...but not the IMEI number (and not the serial number).
Apparently I cannot report my phone lost or stolen without the IMEI number and I am at a loss as to how to find it on itunes.  I don't have the packaging or invoice with me. I cannot figure out WHY the phone number appears and the other numbers do not. AT&T keeps telling me that the IMEI number must be there...but I just cant find it.
I also am confused as to why AT&T can't use the serial number to find the IMEI number.
Thanks for any further thoughts or suggestions.

  • Why are there some blank boxes where photos should be? maverick and iphoto 11

Upgraded to Maverick and iPhoto 11(ver 9.5) and now some of the boxes in photos and events have no photos in them. Tried rebuilding thumbnails and repairing database, but no change. Mistakenly, I closed out screen that first appeared when iPhoto opened for first time that asked permission to do some task and perhaps this is the cause of the problem?

Do you have a backup copy of the library from just before you upgraded to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5?  If so restore it to your Pictures folder and try again to open it with iPhoto.
Otherwise, run the first aid again and select the last option, Rebuild Database.  See if that helps.  If not try the following:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
and select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • af:pangelGroupLayout shows borders where it should not.

I have put the homepage banner and its top links such as company information, site help, contact us links (af:golink) under one af:panelGroupLayout container.
The problem is when I go to "Preview in Browser" it shows the surrounding borders around panel group layout.
I would like to make this border invisible.
    Below is the code snippet.
    <af:panelGroupLayout layout="horizontal" halign="right" visible="false"
    inlineStyle="width:1037px; height:53px;">
    Thanks,
    Ruchir

The border in af:panelGroupLayout is shown when only in the 'Preview In Browser' mode.
When you run the actual page containing the af:panelGroupLayout, the border does NOT show up.
i guess, In 'preview in mode', they are showing it to show how exact the various UI page components in the page are placed.
    Thanks,
    Navaneeth

  • Placed pdf showing "x" where numbers should be

    greetings.
i'm placing a pdf created by another designer into indesign for printing layout purposes.  the pdf is a magazine - multiple pages  w/ articles, advertisements, etc.
here's the issue:  some numbers in the ad's (i.e., the company's address, hours of operation, etc.) are not displaying or printing properly.  the numbers look fine when viewing them in acrobat 8 pro, but once placed into indesign, i'm seeing boxes with "x's" inside of them.  this is not happening on all of the advertisements - just a few.  i initially thought it was a font embedding issue, but it's only happening on the numbers, which is confusing to me.
    any thoughts/solutions are greatly appreciated!

    Thanks, Bob.
I'm not sure.  I receive the pdf from a publishing house.  I would assume they use InDesign to do the layout, but perhaps they use Quark.
I have yet to go to them for any  info on how they put the pdf together.

  • My adobe digital shows boxes where script should be on Windows 7 Pro, what gives??

I've reinstalled at least 12 times. It was working just fine then started this one morning on a start-up out of the blue. Now I have epub files by the hundredws which come up all tiny boxes with no words. How can I fix this????

I can't explain why it used to work and stopped, but try ...
There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0 (and 2.0.1).  Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.
(You can have them both installed at once if you like.)
Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/cant-install-digital-editions.html
The forum software is sometimes corrupting the link above.  There shouldn't be a blank in 'editio ns.html'.  The following redirects to the same page: http://tinyurl.com/diged172
Some people have found ADE trying to upgrade automatically.
It appears (not 100% sure) that if you install ADE2.0 as a new install (not as an upgrade) that your 1.7.2 will continue to run.
Probably best to say no if 2.0.x installation asks if you want to migrate your library.

  • When i click on a photo to edit, the photo doesn't show up and the area where the photo should show up is black.  Why?

When i click on a photo to edit, the photo doesn't show up and the area where the photo should show up is black.  Why?  I can edit some photos, whereas others I can not.

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    If none of these help:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • When I downloaded new photos, they showed up as grayed out areas, without any photo there, just the gray spaces shown where a photo should be.

I downloaded a bunch of photos, but instead of them showing in each space, they were all grayed out, NO photos were shown, just blank gray spaces, where each photo should be, this has just started to happen the last month or so.

Click this little triangle and choose Reset Tool from the popout menu:

  • When I go to Preview to view a photo it shows up for less than a second then disappears and just leaves a gray box where the photo should be. iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014). I need Preview for work.

After the OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 update When I go to use Preview to view a photo it shows up for less than a second then disappears and just leaves a gray box where the photo should be. iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014). I need Preview for work.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
The test works on OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later. I don't recommend running it on older versions of OS X. It will do no harm, but it won't do much good either.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a general summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a particular line of text to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
These are not specific instructions; just an overview. The details are in parts 7 and 8 of this comment. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time.
    5. Try to test under conditions that reproduce the problem, as far as possible. For example, if the computer is sometimes, but not always, slow, run the test during a slowdown.
You may have started up in "safe" mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. Load this linked web page (on the website "Pastebin.") The title of the page is "Diagnostic Test." Below the title is a text box headed by three small icons. The one on the right represents a clipboard. Click that icon to select the text, then copy it to the Clipboard on your computer by pressing the key combination command-C.
If the text doesn't highlight when you click the icon, select it by triple-clicking anywhere inside the box. Don't select the whole page, just the text in the box.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window to activate it. Paste from the Clipboard into the window by pressing command-V, then press return. The text you pasted should vanish immediately.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, a series of lines will appear in the Terminal window like this:
    [Process started]
Part 1 of 8 done at … sec
Part 8 of 8 done at … sec
The test results are on the Clipboard.
            Please close this window.
    [Process completed]
The intervals between parts won't be exactly equal, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
Wait for the final message "Process completed" to appear. If you don't see it within about ten minutes, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it and go to the next step. You'll have incomplete results, but still something.
    12. When the test is complete, or if you stopped it because it was taking too long, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak for themselves, not for me. The test itself is harmless, but whatever else you're told to do may not be. For others who choose to run it, I don't recommend that you post the test results on this website unless I asked you to.

my phone keeps freezing on settings, I cannot make or receive a call but everything else is working including internet and mail. where it should be showing the reception bars it is only showing a broken line. How do I resolve this?

If you are not showing reception bars, then I don't know how the data is working? Have you tried doing a reset? Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. After the phone restarts, check to see if it works. If that doesn't help, then try removing the SIM card, then reinserting it. If that doesn't help, then contact your carrier for assistance in calling.

When a pc user replies to my emails, A's and ?'s marks, sometimes B's show up where the spaces should be. My setting is not set to rich text. Can this be resolved?
    Thanks.

You are in the wrong forum if you are running 10.4.
You can't control how someone else's mail program might corrupt your text on the way back to you, but if you find out that the recipient is seeing junk in the messages you send, the easiest fix is usually to make sure you do Format > Make Plain Text before you send. Your message may be going out in Rich Text even if you think it isn't -- the only way to tell is to do View > Message > Raw Source on stuff in your Sent folder.
