MAil: Size - 50GB on my HDD??!!!

So I have been working for almost a year now. Dealing with 300-400 mails per day and many of them with attachments, While snooping around i found my mail folder (3 email ids) of today I have 61,680 emails in my combined emails. Now there are people who have been working for years on end and most use the same laptop for 2-4 years. So if i work for 4 years on this laptop that will make it 200 GB!!! and i had plans of buying the 11' macbook air with 128GB SSD
Is there a way i can reduce the size of my mail without deleting any emils or getting rid of attachments. Worst case is there a way to remove attachments but not the email text
Need your advise based on which ill get a MBA or a MBP.

Just how did you create the videos? Add the videos to the HD?

    Hello Landfish,
    Good Day...
The output gives the information that Size limit set for Receive and Send is 100 mb, but setting could have changed. So you can follow the below steps to resolve the issue.
There are basically three places where you can configure default message size limits on Exchange:
    Organization transport settings
    Send/receive connector settings
    User mailbox settings.
To check your server’s current limit you can open Exchange Management Shell
Try the below commands to check the Message quota size limit
    get-transportconfig | ft maxsendsize, maxreceivesize
    get-receiveconnector | ft name, maxmessagesize
    get-sendconnector | ft name, maxmessagesize
get-mailbox Administrator |ft Name, Maxsendsize, maxreceivesize
To change the above size limits based on your requirement.
Set-TransportConfig -MaxSendSize 200MB -MaxReceiveSize 500MB (Size is based on your requirement)
    Attachment size limit
To set up the rule you can use the below PowerShell cmdlet, as the method is quite simple
New-TransportRule -Name LargeAttach -AttachmentSizeOver 20MB -RejectMessageReasonText "Message attachment size over 20MB - email rejected."

  • How can i enlarge the mail size?

    hi all:
i have installed JES2005Q4. The system version is:
Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.2-3.04 (built Jul 15 2005)
    libimta.so 6.2-3.04 (built 01:43:03, Jul 15 2005)
    SunOS mail 5.10 Generic_118833-33 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-280R
now, i assigned the "bronze" service package to all the users. According to the description, this package allow the max-mailblocks is 700. so, if i send the mail which includes a attachment(>=700K), the system will say "552 5.3.4 a message size of 702 kilobytes exceeds the size limit of 700 kilobytes computed for this transaction".
how do i enlarge the every mail size to 2M?
    thank you!!

i found the cos.sample.ldif file and edited the bronze mailMsgMaxBlocks to 2000. The cos.sample.ldif file is to be used to create new service packages. It is a template on what they should look like. In your case you are editing an existing service package. Let me run you through an example that I performed on my own system:

    * Delegated Administrator caches the service package definitions so viewing the service package definition in the "All Service Packages" tab may not reflect the current settings. Restart webserver hosting delegated administrator to flush the cache immediately. The settings which control the refresh time of the cache are servicepackage-ttlhours and servicepackage-ttlminutes in the /var/opt/SUNWcomm/WEB-INF/classes/sun/comm/cli/server/servlet/resource.properties file
    * Messaging Server has a LDAP cache, so any user LDAP modifications (which the above change was) may take up to 15 minutes (by default) to be reflected. If you want to test that the user now has an increased maximum email size do so 15 minutes after applying the LDAP modification or restart the MTA to flush the cache (./imsimta restart)

  • Mail size exceeds problem

    Hi,
I have written abap program to send a mail to outlook by using the FM SO_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1 in my program.
As per client requirement,  i have to display the results in the body of the message like tabular format.
and i have used html tags in my abap program.
Every thing working fine but whenever the output contains more data i.e more than 200 rows of output, the mail size exceeds more thean 3.0 MB and the same mail not triggering at user's mail box  because of of size of the mail.
In our company, some of users mail box restricted with 1mb size only.
Is there any way to reduce the size and send the same mail to them.
    Advance thanks,

  • 10.8.1 server.app, mail size not set

    Hi,
In server.app (ML 10.8.1), I am trying to change the mail size limit:
    - open server.app
    - click on "mail" in the left pane
    - toggle the on/off switch to "off"
    - check the box "Limit mail to" and input a file size (300 Mb in my example)
    - toggle the on/off switch to "on"
But the mail size limit won't change as you can read from the following command line interactions
    1) before applying the change above:
    bash-3.2# serveradmin settings mail|grep size
    mail:postfix:message_size_limit_enabled = yes
    mail:postfix:message_size_limit = 204857600
    mail:imap:sieve_maxscriptsize = 32
    2) after applying this change
    bash-3.2# serveradmin settings mail|grep size
    mail:postfix:message_size_limit_enabled = yes
    mail:postfix:message_size_limit = 204857600
    mail:imap:sieve_maxscriptsize = 32

You change the whole mailbox size in Server.app, by reading the message_size_limit you only see the maximum size of individual messages, which you have not changed, but you can in /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix/main.cf by editing the value of message_size_limit almost at the bottom. Save the file and restart your mail server in server.app.

  • How to limit mail size of outgoing messages per domain/user

    Hello,
i want to limit the size of a mail a user can send. For inbound mail there are attributes in the directory service: mailDomainMsgMaxBlocks and mailMsgMaxBlocks.
But these limitations only enforce the size of incoming mail.
I've read the messaging server admin guide but all i could find out is that i could limit the size of outgoing mail via a channel.
For me this solution ist not granular enough. I want to set the outgoing mail size limit per user. Furthermore i don't know the impact of configuring 200+ channels for enforcing individual outgoing mail size limits per hosted domain.
Does anybody know a solution for this problem? Maybe i've read over something. Or can anybody tell me the performance impact of 200+ channels at least?
    Thank you very much,
    af_inet

    Hi jay_plesset,
thanks a lot for your clarifications.
Why would you need 200 channels? That sounds like a
very strange setup. Setting outbound max size per
user sounds like a very unusual demand, too.Let me explain: I got several departments who control their email settings in the messaging server via a webapp. So they can add, delete and modify users. They can manage mailing lists and so on. It's really a cool tool :-) I want this thing to be as granular as an own mailserver for the department would be. So it would be cool when the webapp writes an attribute like maxMsgBlocks in the DS and the thing is done.
I don't understand why you guys could do the stuff for inbound but not for outbound. Is there a technical reason or is it just because it seems strange? :-)
If you REALLY need something like that, 200 channels
would need a POOL of at least 200 jobs in order to
reliably run, and that's likely to need lots of
system memory.I think that's not the way i want to go.
Consider a custom channel, or something like that,
that does an LDAP lookup for setting message size on
sending. You'd need to enforce smtp authentication,
so you know who your messages are coming from, first,
and then you could proceed from there. This is not a
trivial setup.Sounds interesting. Any documentation hints for custom channels?
    Thanks again for your reply,

  • Internal mail size, External mail size

    Hello,
    I am using JMS 6.3!
One of my customer has 2 requirements
    1. Can we have mail users who would be allowed to send mails internally only and some users allowed to send internally as well as externally
    2. Can we have, users sending mails to have different message size limit to one sending externally. Ex: Internal mail size 5mb and External Mail size 2mb
    Thanks in advance

    unicsguru wrote:
One of my customer has 2 requirementsWhilst these requirements may sound simple enough they can actually be very tricky to implement depending on the environment.
    1. Can we have mail users who would be allowed to send mails internally only and some users allowed to send internally as well as externallyAre your email users able to send emails via controlled webclients such as UWC/Comms Express and Messenger Express or are they also able to upload emails using clients such as Mozilla Thunderbird?
    2. Can we have, users sending mails to have different message size limit to one sending externally. Ex: Internal mail size 5mb and External Mail size 2mbPer-user quota's can be used to override the default quota sizes set on channels but it doesn't differentiate between the destination of the email.
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-2650/6n4u4dtqp?a=view
"Source block limits can also be specified on a per sender basis by specifying a user LDAP attribute with the MTA option LDAP_SOURCEBLOCKLIMIT, and adding this attribute to the senders LDAP entry. Source block limits are also supported based on the senders domain. Specify a domain LDAP attribute with the MTA option LDAP_DOMAIN_ATTR_SOURCEBLOCKLIMIT, and adding this attribute to the senders domain LDAP entry. There are no defaults for either of these values."
If you wanted to apply the internal/external limits globally (as in the limit applies to everybody but certain users could 'override' with source-limits) you could to this by setting the default quota to 5MB (so this would apply to internal emails for example) and then set a 2MB blocklimit on the tcp_local channel so that 'external' bound emails get a greater restriction.

    Shane.

  • E90 E-mail size settings

I used to have a 9300 Communicator which showed in the header line the size of the E-mails. Very handy to decide if you want to retrieve the whole e-mail yes or no.
My new E90 Communicator forces me to go into the details of each and every e-mail to look that up first. Is there a way to change these settings and have the size data shown in the header line again.

Need to pdf my Pages Newsletter by e-mail. My ISP
(Alltel.net) restricts e-mail size to 5 megs, apple
mail to 20 megs. Haven't tried IE but assume they
too have size restriction. My current Newsletter at
21 megs with many images will not send. Notice
Discussion authors with hundreds of manuscript pages
and copious images using Pages. I presume they and
others send their large Pages' docs for editing, etc.
Tried exporting Newsletter in Word in addition to
pdf, no joy. Presume authors using Pages have
solution. How do I work around e-mail size
restriction. My ISP DSL techicies say no dice.
    Thanks. Jim.
This restriction is a 'problem' with the email service offered by many ISPs. That's because email was not designed to transfer large files.
The workaround is to send your PDF documents in a different method. This is what graphic art businesses do. The method you use depends on the recipient. For example, CD is convenient if you want to hand the PDF to someone and time is of the essence. Or if you can have access to the recipient's computer/server you can use FTP, or SFTP, WedDAV, protocols to give a copy of the file to the recipient.

  • How to limit mail size of outgoing messages

I would like to limit the sizr out outgoing messages in SUN JES. Is there any attribute I can modify so that each user have same limit size other than change it individually for each user?

You can handle the limit of any mail at MTA-level with the blocklimit, noblocklimit, sourceblocklimit directives in the channel definitions (in imta.cnf)
Give a look at the MTA configuration details at
    http://docs.sun.com/source/819-0106/mta_config.html
I think that you may want to try something like sourceblocklimit directive.

  • How to optimise the size of e-mail size????

Sorry, I have an Iphone 3 and I had a blackberry previously. 2 question s:
1 - is there a possibility to receive on an other format in order to get it compressed. in fact when I'm in a foreign country I have to pay for the Data and I receive a lot of e-mail with huge attach document. on the Blackberry size of my email was very small comparing to the one I receive on my Iphone?
2 - If not, it there any possibility like on my old Palm to download only the title and a small part of the e-mail than to choose to download it? or at least to not download the attach file and to choose to download it if I need?
Please note that I will may be switch to Iphone 4.

    Hi,
There is standard WDA available on sending Emails. It is RPLM_MP_SENDEMAIL_COMP.
See the code in this WD application and get the relevant logic for your functionality.
I hope this will solve your problem.
    Thanks,

  • Enable visualization of incoming mail size in "mail activity" progress bar

I was wondering if there is any possibility to visualize in the progress bar the size of the incoming mail while it is being downloaded. For now we can see only the download speed. This could prove useful if you are in a location having poor connection and you don't want to throttle it or wait too long for the download to take place.

  • Mail size under usage in iphone

    Hi,
after upgrading my iPhone 4 to IOS 7 I am now available to see size of my mails under Setting > General > Usage > Mail.
Size was extremally huge even thought I had only couple of e-mail there. So I have removed that mailbox and have cheked usage field once again.
In theory mail section shall be gone as I do not have any other mailboxes/accounts added on my iPhone, but I still can see section MAIL and CALENDARS&REMAINDERS from some reason. Size is not that big (approx 100mb), but why they are still there?
As I have 8gb phone I need to count every MB.
    How to clean mails totally?

I found a fix guys, had the same thing... photos gone from camera role but still showed they are occupying the memory.
if you download iFunbox (www.i-funbox.com) you will be able to acccess you iphone, ipod, ipad system and can just copy to computer the jpg files from the RAW FILE SYSTEM or CAMERA tab by selecting all the photos.

  • Mail Size has become 1585 mb

I have N70 and i am unable to access my message inbox. I have been storing my messages in Memory Card (1GB) but now the mail folder size has become 4.6 GB and there are 3 files present with the name h< each with size 1585 MB.
    Please help...

Are you talking about the font size for received messages?
If so, this is caused by the sender using HTML for message composition.
Copied from Why HTML in E-Mail is a Bad Idea.
Because it introduces accessibility problems. When you write in plain text, the receiving mail client renders the text in whatever font the reader chooses. When you format email with HTML, the sender controls the formatting. But this is a trap: You only think your message will render the same way to the viewer as it appears to the sender. In reality, the receiver can end up squinting because the font looks so tiny, or vice versa. HTML is not rendered the same way from one viewing client to the next - all guarantee of accessiblity goes out the window. This is especially problematic for visually impaired persons.
With such a message open, at the menu bar go to View > Message and select Plain Text Alternative and all text will be converted to your chosen Message Font and size selected at Mail > Preferences > Fonts & Colors.
There is also a Terminal command available that automatically converts message text composed in HTML to Plain Text for all received messages.
Sorry if you are referring to something else.

  • Stopping Mail Importing 50gb worth of old emails!!?? Help!

Id like to use the new mail app for Mountain lion, i really do
But im having a nightmare with it. I have set it up with my various gmail accounts and syncs fine, but i cant stop it from importing every single mail ever sent. Its rediculous as i have about 50gb worth of emails going back nearly 10 years! i dont want that on my hard drive!? i only have 256gb as it is!
Is there any way to restrict it to receive only new mail and not import all the old stuff.
Or even better, set it to recieve the last say 6months of emails and then anything new?
I hope someone out there knows a fix for this, the default seems a little insane for taking up wasted space on peoples machines, particuarly if you use email a lot!
    Thanks in advance

Thanks so much for this william!
Yes i basically have 2 very old gmail accounts that i wanted to use with the mail app. I wanted to stop Mail from collecting all of my old mail copies.
I did the options for the IMAP settings on both my Gmail accounts but it still appears to be importing everything or it may just be left over from when it tried to import.
It looks like it pulled everything back to 2007 onwards. Hopefully this wont take up too much of the hard drive.
It would be nice if they provided an import setting Import last 1 month 6 month or everything option
    Thanks again William!

  • Mail Size??

Mail app by apple the one that comes with OSX is good. Its the only one I can get to work with gmail if I use imap. But problem is I can't see the message size of each email. If I goto view and message attributes I can select size. But if I search anything like walmart for example. I see all the emails I have ever gotten from them. But when I got to message attributes size is unchecked. And if I select it nothing happens. It won't let me select size. So I can't see the size of all the searched results. I can go back to normal view and search one by one but that is a pain.

Found the solution.  Don't know why it does not works.  But in the mean time make a new folder.  Goto Mailbox and say New mail box.  Make a new folder.  Search for everything like walmart for example.  The select all and right click and move to new folder.  Not sure why searches can't see size of searches.  But a new folder can without searching.  Everything in that folder can see size, view - meesage attrivbutes.  And then size.  And the new folder only contains what you need so no neew to search one by one among 400 messages.  So temporary that will do.
