Mail smtp server port problem

I just changed isp provider and I am trying to use mail with my yahoo account. Everything seems to work except sending mail. I have talked with Yahoo and Adelphia and they can not figure it out. Adelphia suggested that my server port was blocked but I don't know how that could be because it was working with my last isp verizon. How do I unblock port 25 if that is the case or do you have any other suggestions?

Most, if not all ISPs block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network (or not provided by the ISP) on Port 25. Some ISPs allow the use of an authenticated SMTP server only that is outside of their network on Port 25 but some block its use regardless.
These restrictions are in place as part of an overall effort to prevent spam emanating from the ISP's domain.
You cannot unblock using Port 25 with an SMTP server that is outside of your ISPs network. If using an SMTP server that is outside of your ISP's network is blocked by your ISP on Port 25, only your ISP can do so.
Are you also accessing an email account and SMTP server in Mail that is provided by Adelphia and if so, are you able to send mail with your Adelphia email account?
If so, sounds like the person you talked to with Adelphia does not know what they are talking about.
Something to try.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your Yahoo account preferences at the SMTP server selection, select the Server Settings button below.
Enter 587 in place of 25 in the Server Port field and when finished, select OK to save the changed setting.
Test if this resolves the problem. If not and you are accessing an email account and SMTP server in Mail provided by Adelphia and you are able to send messages with this account, select/use Adelphia's SMTP server to send mail with your Yahoo email account which is invisible to all recipients.

This problem may occur at low-use times when Messaging is installed with the
Trend virus protection software on the same system.

Change the version of the Trend software from 3.0 to the older 2.62 version.

It's possible that your provider has made a change.
I think STARTTLS usually is used with port 587, instead of the standard SSL port 465.
Could you look up your provider's current SMTP settings to see whether your "Outgoing Server" settings need to be updated? If it's difficult to translate between your provider's help page and Thunderbird's dialog controls, you could provide a link to your provider's help page.

I use an IMAP email account Administered by my company ( I'am administrator in linux/freebsd, etc) and i have it set-up on my iPhone 4 (factory unlocked and NOT jailbreak). The incoming mail server works fine on wifi and 3G Both But the smtp server only works on wifi. If I Attempt to send a message while on 3G Attempts to send the phone for about 5/10/15... and never sent.
perform a downgrade to version 4.1 and the problem remains. Before ios 4.0.1 had no problems.
    Testing:
I jailbreak (in 4.1) (only for install net commands in console), install console and "telnet smtp.mycompany.com 25" and time out, but turn wifi and connect; "ping smtp.mycompany" is ok.
Set wifi on, try "telnef smtp.mycompany.com 25" is ok !!!, turn wifi of, try 3G same problem, time out.
Restore no jailbreak 4.1 and try and same problem, restore 4.2.1 no jailbreak and same problem. Try change sim (personal to movistar) and same problem.
    BUT!!!!!!! a try:
    1) Change in my company smtp server port 25 to 587 (in really dnat 587 to 25).

    and ok !!!

Thanks for visiting our forums. I actually had a similar
situation. I had the iPhone 3GS and used it all the time on a FM transmitter in
my car. When I upgraded to the iPhone 4, it wouldn’t work with the FM
transmitter. I never figured out why it wouldn’t work. I would suggest you
continue working with the manufacturer of the device or wait to see if the next
    iOS update addresses this issue.

  • IPhoto 11 (9.2.1) can't use iCloud Mail smtp server for email.

iPhoto 11 (9.2.1) can't use iCloud Mail smtp server for email.  "The email server didn't recognise username/password combination".  Both appear correct in preferences/accounts.  Mail sends and receives messages perfectly.
(This problem also occurs when trying to send from Thunderbird, however both iPhoto and Thunderbird can send perfectly well using the Gmail server).

    Hi there
I should explain that I have 5 days experience of the iMac but have had a working iCloud account with my iPad for several months.  I don't think this is an iCloud issue as such. My thought is that this is something to do with the Mail application itself and its relationship to my Apple ID etc. (Perhaps when the iMac first configured itself?)
I have deleted and manually reset both Mail and iPhone account settings for iCloud using the Apple recommended settings and I have tentatively checked that the username/password combination is as expected in Keychain but I'm too much of an Apple novice to go any further with that.
On a PC I think I would try reinstalling the Mail programme but I don't see that as an option.

  • Mac OS X Leopard Mail SMTP server keeps going offline and won't come on

My SMTP in mail on my email accounts keeps going offline and I can't work out how to get it working again. My internet connection is fine. I am receiving emails. I was able to send earlier on my business email account but now my .mac account has gone offline and then my business on went on me.
I only started using my business email account in mail today and loaded the account into mail. Does anyone have any answers for this as I can see there have been some other people who might have had a similar problem but I can't see any fixes?
I have deleted and reloaded both my .mac and work account a couple of times now and restarted my computer but still no good.
    Can anyone help?

I have that offline mail smtp server when I try to send emails from work with my macbook. I've always been able to send emails away from home using the login and password in the smtp configurations. It's a real pain since I use one email account for work and personal business. I can receive email but cannot send any. Everytime I have to answer an email while I'm working, I have to go to the browser, go to my provider's mail page, login and send from there my emails.
Do we have the same problem?

after setting up notification when i press test button, getting erro, [email protected] : Failed to connect to gateway:smtp.gmail.com sending failed

As far as I'm aware, GMail isn't running a public SMTP server. Assuming you're running this on your home machine, does your ISP have a SMTP server you could use?

  • Can receive but can't send mail via BT Yahoo SMTP server port 995

Suddenly I can't send mail from my BT/Yahoo account but can still receive mail. The message that i get is that it was rejected by the server. I have not changed the server - it is still SMTP via port 995, using SSL. Help!! Why should this have ocurred out of the blue and what do I do?

Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I recommend starting with the steps in this article if you are not able to send mail:

  • Mail SMTP server problem

My iCloud does not work in Mail in all my apple devices (mobile, Ipad, Mac etc.). It seems that my Apple Mail soft seems to disable my smtp server for outgoing mails (iCloud server, offline). However, I can still receive all incoming mails ...

Have you unchecked the box marked Mail in the iCloud preference pane and then checked it again? If not, please do that now and test.
I've tried what you said, but nothing changes.
I've tried also to sign out completely from iCloud and then sign in. It should rebuild the credentials stored in the Mac, but nothing works.
I post the screen that appears after it fails to send the message.
But on the other hand it works on the iPhone!!! I've unchecked and checked the mail box in the settings and now it works properly!
The problem still persist on the Mac. In other words this is not linked to the iCloud preferences, but on the Mac itself.

  • Mail server port problem

For some reason my mail server port has gotten set to 1102 instead of the proper 110. I have gone in several times to change it, have changed it to 110, gone out of settings, gone back in and confirmed the change was made. But whenever I access mail it says it can't connect to my account and when I look in settings again, the port is back to 1102. Is there some way to change this permanently?

I originally transferred the settings over from my computer, but since then I was struggling with an outgoing mail issue which is now resolved, and the port for incoming mail somehow got changed. I did a sync today with my mail and the server port remained at 1102.

  • Smtp and port problems--cant use email

    Using OSX 10.4.9, Total Access 2003 1.0
Oct 19 was the last email received through Mac mail. Using Earthlink.net for email. Contacted Earthlink several times, as there was a problem with "Cannot send message using the server smtpauth.earthlink.net" There was a problem with port 25, so i switched to port 587. There is still a problem, and Earthlink now says that it is an Apple problem, not an Earthlink problem
I upgraded to Tiger early summer, and have had no problems, until Oct 19, when it just stopped.
I am very frustrated and want to use MacMail instead of Earthlink's WebMail. I need to know how to fix it,

    Hello, mnkeen.
This post may repeat things you have already tried, but I am replying just in case. In addition, I hope I am reading your message correctly.
One of my mail providers is Earthlink; however, I do not use TotalAccess.
    • Go to www.earthlink.net
    • Click on Support at the top of the page.
    • Under Top Solutions select "Setting Up Your Email Program."
    • Special Note: You are not going to set up an email program; you are just using the article for research.
    • Scroll down to Setting Up Another Mail Client for EarthLink Access and select Mac OS X Mail 1.4.
    1. Get the server settings if you need them.
    23. through 31. Compare the pictures with your settings.
    29. As you write that you have already set the Server Port to 587, I am wondering if the snag you are experiencing is in the selection of the Authentication option.
For what it is worth, my home network uses MD 5 Challenge-Response.
    Other things to check:
    • Under Top Solutions you may also want to select "Troubleshooting Email Problems."
    • Maybe the links to "Configuring your email for SMTP Authentication (This is now required for Earthlink email accounts)" and / or "Changing email settings" might be of use to you.
    • Both of those articles include specific information and pictures for Mac OS X Mail.
    Sincerely,
    No Alibi.

  • Mail - SMTP Server Offline

I am unable to send emails from my new MacBook on Mail using the SMTP server. I have a hotmail account and the server has apparently been offline for about a week. I am able to receive emails with no problems but Mail is unable to connect to the outgoing server. Also, I don't know if it has any impact, but I believe that Microsoft are trying to phase hotmail accounts to Outlook. Any advice?

Thanks, but I found that thread but it made no difference.
I was able to find ports 25 and 587, but not 465 - if that matters. The text on ports wasn't terribly clear to be honest.
465 is not a supported port.
Here are the correct settings, are you using them?
    Incoming (POP3) Server
    Server address: pop3.live.com
    Port: 995
    SSL Encryption: Yes
    Outgoing (SMTP) Server
    Server address: smtp.live.com
Port: 25 (or 587 if 25 is blocked)
    Authentication: Yes
TLS or SSL Secure Encrypted Connection: Yes
    User name: Your email address
    Password: Your password
If you don’t want email to be deleted from your Outlook.com inbox after it’s downloaded to your email app, select the Leave a copy of messages on the server option.

  • Mail - SMTP Server Fails

I'm completely baffled about why I can't succeed at sending email. I just went over all the settings with the ISP, and they say they are correct. Guy sounded kinda green, though. So maybe I'm not completely baffled.
I'm getting some conflicting data from Mail. The default set-up was for SMTP on port 465. My ISP wants Port 25. I'm running the Connection Doctor, which tells me I'm getting through to the POP server, but not SMTP. Passwords are identical, and working with the POP server.
The ISP uses a very vanilla SMTP set-up:
    smtp.fubar.com
Port 25 (Which I reset to Port 25)
    myusername
    no SSL
    password
Heres a log of a connection session:

Apparently, my ISP needs better help. It seems two things were going on ...
my return email address for the account I was setting up is not the same domain as the SMTP server. It appears that the connection was initially choking because of the mismatch. My usual email client, Mailsmith, doesn't introduce this problem, even with the same settings. Hmmmm ...
After I fixed that, it still didn't complete, however. But I got some good information from the Connection Doctor, finally. The SMTP server doesn't require authentication. My configuration was trying to authenticate, based on information from the ISP that both servers "use the same password". Ah well ...
Once authentication was turned off, it then started taking outgoing mail. Problem solved, I think.

  • Can not specify the SMTP server port, username and password for my SharePoint 2013 web application

We have our SMTP server under port number 141 and we should add username and password. but inside SharePoint 2013, I can only define the SMTP server name , from email, reply-to . But there are not fields to define the port number , the username and password.

provide are regarding configuring SMTP server, while we already have an SMTP server but i need to connect SP with it . can you advice please?

The debug output doesn't show an obvious problem. You're
going to have to actually debug your program. A debugger
    might be helpful.
