Mail [snow leop] stops displaying messages
Mail [snow leop] stops displaying messages in viewer window until I open a new viewer window.
That is the message text in the riight window section does not show.
I have looked for an item in PREFERENCES and find nothing relating to this.
This is an issue that occures more often now.
What need I do?
You have managed to close Mail's preview pane. To reopen it you can double click on the bottom of Mail's window (the thick border with a dot in the middle) or drag it up to reveal the message preview area.

Why is Mail 6.2 not displaying messages from my Exchange account?
Greetings,
I have a new 13" MacBook Air running Mountain Lion and I'm noticing that most of the time my Mail inbox is not displaying messages from my work Exchange account; however, it does display messages correctly for my Gmail account. I've included a screen shot of what I'm experiencing.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
GarryI have the same problem, as does a coworker. It happens, for instance, if I click on another mailbox (such as Junk) then go back to the inbox. Our company uses Exchange. Quitting mail usually fixes it. A rebuild of the mailbox will too. Only happens on my Mac at work, not my Mac at home (connected via VPN).
Another problem I have is with mail not syncing. Mail I have deleted from another device (such as on my Mac at home or my iPad) does not get deleted from my inbox at work. Sometimes they'll go away when I click on them. Other times they won't go away and the only way to delete them is to rebuild the mailbox.
And lately I have had problems with attachments. Attachments sent from my Exchange account at work show up as .eml attachments in my iCloud account and mime attachments on my iPad or as a string of characters (20-30), not as an attachment. This happens whether sent from home or work.
I have our IT department looking into the third problem (which is the most vital one for me). I'll report the other two annoying problems and see what they can figure out. -
Mail won't stop downloading messages long ago deleted from server
I'm setting up my new macbook (with snow leopard) and I'm running into a problem with Mail. Even though I've deleted all my junk mail from the Google server and emptied the trash, Mail will still download everything every email I've received in the 2+ years I've had my gmail account (thousands of them)! Some of these messages are ones that I thought I got rid of years ago, it's a little scary to know they're still out there. If I go through the whole inbox, delete them, and empty my trash, they all just come back the next time I check for new mail. The gmail trash is also empty -- when I log into that there are only 50 messages in the inbox and nothing else. Help please!
The reason is that the emails aren't really deleted.
They're "marked for deletion."
Gmail (as much as I understand it) is a variation on imap.
In an imap account, when you "delete" an email, it's marked for deletion.
The client then either stops displaying it, or displays it with s trike through, depending on client and setup.
To actually get rid of it permanently, you have to Purge the emails as well.
I don't know that Gmail will allow a purge, since their stated intent is to not delete any email, but to retain it forever.
I would suggest using a full email client like Thunderbird to send the proper Purge commands and see what happens.
Or, you use pop and set the date range in the gmail config. -
Apple mail won't stop deleting messages from Gmail server
Hello everyone:
For a long time I had my mail set up to delete messages from the gmail server, but recently I changed my mind. I tried changing the settings to remove copy after a month and nothing happened, i.e. immediately deleted messages from server. Now I've tried changing it to never remove a copy and it is still doing it. What am I missing?I should say: it does leave a copy in "all mail" but deletes it from the inbox section so they are unavailable on my iPhone as soon as my laptop grabs it....

How do I get back the preview window so that I don't have to click open each message? Thanks in advance! --Cheryl
Hi LeoLady!
Having the preview window up to get a quick and good overview of your mail is very handy and I understand you would like to get that feature back!
Have you tried to close the mail app using cmd+q and opening again? Have you tried taking your mouse the whole way to the right in the mail window and try to "drag" the preview window back out again? -
Mail - Won't stop recovering messages!
A couple days ago, I was trying to email some .zip files (they were photos that I put in a .zip) to my friend. However, they were too big so it didn't send. So I ended up just not emailing them at all and quit out of Mail.
Now, whenever I open Mail, there's a new folder called "ON MY MAC" and under it is "Recovered Messages." The messages under the "Recovered Messages" folder is all the emails that I tried to send to my friend a few days ago. I tried deleting these messages from the folder, but they keep coming back! Mail keeps recovering these messages, but I don't need them anymore. I just want to delete them. How do I stop it from automatically recovering these unnecessary messages?
Also, the spinning circle next to my inboxes won't stop spinning. Which I think slows down Mail entirely... I tried going to Window > Activity and tried to stop the activity, but then it would just start up again. So now I usually just get frustrated with Mail lagging all the time and just quit out of it.HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...

It just started a few days ago. It has been working just fine, even after I upgraded to Tiger (which was several months ago, finally). Over the last few days, when I launch Mail.app, it downloads all the same messages that have been on the server since Friday and won't ever complete the download. It just spins and spins. SO, the messages are never officially retrieved and removed from my POP server (which is a setting I have turned on). If I force quit the app. Or even quit the process (which doesn't usually have any effect), I then relaunch Mail.app and it re-downloads all the messages. Now I have about 5 copies of all these messages. And I can't seem to just quit the app.
I read a post that involved trashing the inbox and reimporting it back in. I'm not sure if that is the approach here. OR, if I can infact, just delete a particular cache file or temp file, or something that might get the Mail.app un-stuck.
Any thoughts? Let me know if you need any more specifics.
Thanks!Mail 1.x used MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded to keep track of which messages had already been downloaded from the server. Mail 2.x uses MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded2 for the same purpose. It could be that there is something wrong with that file, or with your Inbox, but it could also be that Mail is choking on some troublesome message on the server. Let's try this first:
1. Quit Mail.
2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/.
3. Move the MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded files to the Trash.
4. Move INBOX.mbox to the Desktop (don't trash it), to be imported later.
As a result or removing the MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded files, Mail will try to download everythng still on the server as if new. You can use the Account Info window first to remove from the server any messages you don't want to be downloaded again. In order to do that, choose Get Info (⌘I) from the Action menu (gear icon) located below the mailboxes list in the main Mail window -- type "Account Info" in the search field of Mail Help for more information on this feature. -
Apple Mail not displaying message content
Since the last few days, Apple Mail has suddenly stopped displaying message content in the message body pane. If you want to read an email, you either have to double click it to open it in its own window or else Quit Mail and reopen, which works for a while. This problem has started just 2-3 days ago. Any suggestions?
This is a real problem that I have been experiencing in the browser while checking mail. I will log into iCloud adn when I click on an email, only part of the email will display. On the iPhone, the email displays fine. it's only when I log into iCloud from a desktop broswer that I am experiencing this problem. This is not good and should be fix...please. This has been going on for more than a few days. Is there someone we should alert.
Thank you,

After Mavericks upgrade, Mail.app doesn't show messages in Sent Items
I upgraded to Mavericks this morning and Mail.app is not displaying messages in the Sent folder.
I have 2 Gmail accounts set up and the messages are present in the All Mail folder but they're not displayed in Sent. They were definitely there before the upgrade.
Has anyone else seen this happen ? I have TM backups that I can get to but I tried restoring the folder for the account with little success.
Any help is appreciated.
Cheers

Mail: photos won't display, only "missing plug-in" message
My wife's old G4 PowerMac running OS X10.5.8 recently stopped displaying photos in Mail. Instead, all that displays is message "Missing Plug-in" and the photo number or caption. This happens with all incoming e-mails, as well as outgoing e-mails generated from iPhoto, or just standard e-mails composed in Mail with an attached photo. The photo is there when she clicks on "Quick Look" but not in the field of the message. HTML images in ads display fine...only individual photo attachments are missing. Please help. Thanks.
Hi Neville.
I have the same problem with the "missing plug-in" message...but everytime I close out and try a second time the photos appear.
Is the path "applications" "utilities" "java"...if so I don't see "Java" in utilities, even though I was prompted to do a recent "java update" and did so?
Wondering where my "Java Preferences" file would be since I don't any file for "Java" in "utilities".
Any help/advice would be much appreciated! -
Mail stops receiving messages after a period of time
Every since installing Mavericks my Mail app stops receiving messages after a period of time. I know because I get the email on my phone, but I try to grab them in Mail and nothing. If I restart Mail then they come through.
I'm using Gmail as my email provider. Is anyone else suffering with this? Is there a work around?Workaround or not, this is an annoyance, and that's a nice way of putting it. Coming from Mountain Lion, when Mail was working flawlessly, having to deal with this issue is just plain ridiculous. What happened to the Mail application? I don't understand how Apple could screw this up to badly.
Every time I restart or reset the connection to the servers, the Mail app is downloading thousands of messages (I can see the display on the bottom-left). I have no idea what it's doing or why, for that matter. If Apple doesn't fix this soon, I will seriously be forced to look for an alternative, which saddens me greatly. I really like Mail, but if it cannot reliably get my mail simply because I've left it open too long, or hidden it behind another window, I will stop using it.
What's worse is that I've had similar issues with other applications like iPhoto and iTunes. Whatever is happening to Mail is probably not just application-specific. It's probably OS-specific. I hope Apple is working on it and that we will see a major update to Mavericks soon. All I know is that, right now, I'm seriously regretting upgrading to Mavericks. -
OSX 10.5.8 Mail stop displaying new mail on 24/5/2012
Hi All,
I've got 2 gmail account in my mac mail. One of them stopped display new mail on 24/5/2012. The last mail that I've got is 23:45pm 23/5/2012. When I try to get new mail for that mail box, the mail ativity shows they are loading 43 incoming messages. However, once the loading is done, nothing shows up.
As I said i've got 2 gmail accounts in the mail and the other account is working fine.
Any ideas?
Thx in advnaceNot certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup
Note, in 10.5 & up /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/ may or may not exist. -
How do I stop the message "Cannot get mail. The user name or password for iCloud is incorrect" from popping up 2-4 times consecutively every time I choose MAIL on my iPhone 4, 7.1.1 I have to select "OK" 2-4 times each time before I can read other email accounts. I used to have an "@me.com" account which I think was automatically changed to an "@icloud.com account." I opened a new iCloud.com account yesterday because I could not figure out how to get in the old ones. I want to delete the original @me & original iCloud account. When I try to delete the account, they tell me my DOB is wrong. I just want those pop ups to stop. Thanks in advance for your help.
Hi Suzanne,
It sounds like you’re running into a password issue with an older Apple ID that’s setup on your iPhone, which is preventing you from removing an iCloud account from your device. Take a look at the article linked below, it outlines all of the possible ways to change an Apple ID password.
If you forgot your Apple ID password - Apple Support
After you enter your Apple ID, there are three ways you can change your password:
Answer your security questions. Use these steps if you know the answers to your security questions.
Use email authentication. We'll send you an email that you can use to change your password.
Use two-step verification. If you set up two-step verification, you can use it to change your password. You just need your recovery key and a trusted device.
So long,

Mail crashes when displaying messages if GPGMail active.
Mail crashed regularly when displaying the message content.
I had to uninstall GPGTools (with GPGMail), then all was OK. I hope this can help!I just found a warning on the GPG Suite website (https://gpgtools.org/news) stating that the Yosemite upgrade of GPGMail will be paid only. There is a beta versione available for those who needs encryption. They also advice to uninstall GPGMail after Yosemite install.
