Mail sound and slow

Hey,
This week I received my first iMac, so I am a newbie in the OS.
I tried to setup my e-mail accounts in the mail program from Apple. I managed to do that correctly.
But soon as I receive a message I don't get a sound (I checked every setting). It seems also a bit slower with receiving emails comparing to Windows Live Essentials Mail and with downloading the content in the e-mail.
Does somebody have a solution for this or is this normal? Thanks!

I have a two part question: I get the new mail sound with the activity next to a mail box but quite often no mail. Sometimes I'll check online to see mail which I haven't gotten on my computer. I play with the Junk Mail settings, which I do not use. I have several RULES which I will turn off just for a test. None of this seems to matter

  • Terrible clicking sounds and slowness!

I rely on my computer to complete my education..... and I use it constantly.
My fiance owned an old HP pavilion notebook, from 2001 and it worked fine till recently--- I was frustrated that finally decided to buy myself a nice desktop.
I chose the HP touchsmart300 because I thought it was really neat, and we have had good quality with an HP product.
I have had this HP touchsmart since dec. 19, 2009--- so not even two months. and it just started making these terrible clicking noises!!
I thought it was a cd I had in the drive, but nope, I took it out and nothing. still same clicking sound
I had a major test today for school-- I am completing my bachelor's degree in nursing-- and I am afraid to use this computer during the test due to the fact that it could break down on me during the test.
So I made my fiance go to best buy and buy me a MAC notebook!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He set it up for me, and I have just completed my test.
so freakin' expensive, cuz I had to buy everything again-- the microsoft office product,..
I'm not into MAC products because they are so much $$$$ but I am desperate. I can't afford to fail another class, and I only work part time!
I am right now waiting on the line for a customer service rep.
    I'm so dissapointed.

ok well, today I received the hard drive, and I installed it with ease, I placed the CD's as instructed on the computer screen.... and after everything was done-- the computer did not work :-(
    clicking sounds stopped
but the screen got stuck on a blue screen, with the HP logo in the middle, and the choices f10=set up etc. etc.
So now I have to send the computer to the hp service center :-(
I don't know if it's a virus or something wrong with the machine itself.
I watched adult sites, but I didn't download anything, I haven't opened anything weird e-mails--- so I don't understand why my HP touchsmart wouldn't work.
    I'm extremely depressed.
right now I am using my new macbook that I bought sunday when the hp started malfunctioning.
I don't know what else to do

  • OSX Mavericks problems with iMail new mail sound and Time Capsule back-up symbol

Since I updated to Mavericks, the New Messages Sound in iMail does not work; there is no sound. As well, the time capsule back-up clock-face symbol in the top menu no longer moves when the computer is being backed-up. Any ideas?

Exactly what did you do?   Did you do a full system restore, after starting from your Recovery HD, per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions?
When it was complete, I re-started my computer and I would see the Apple icon in the middle of my screen for about 10 seconds then the screen would go blank then several lines of messages were visible with the message the computer would not boot.
    This one?
If so, that's a kernel panic.  All you need to do is install a fresh version of OSX.  See #E8 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting.

  • How can I get my e-mail sounds back?

Until about a week ago, I heard a sound when new mail arrived and a nice swish when mail went out. Now silence! I tried Sound in System Preferences -- but no help there. Please advise. Thanks!

    Hi Norman --
Until about a week ago, I heard a sound when new mail arrived and a nice swish when mail went out. Now silence! I tried Sound in System Preferences -- but no help there. Please advise. Thanks!
You wrote that you "tried system preferences," but did you also check the mail application's own preferences?
With Mail open, click on the "Mail" menu in the upper left-hand corner, select "preferences," select the "general" tab and make sure that you've selected the "new mail sound" in the drop down menu for your "new mail sound" and have checked the box next to where it says "play sounds for other mail actions."
If all of the above check out, you should also re-check that the volume in System Preferences > Sound > Output is adjusted sufficiently high.

  • Incoming mail sound does not sound- is activated in preferences

Started after taking headphone jack out of back of Mac. iTunes plays, can hear sounds from Second Life, MSN Messenger, but incoming/outgoing sounds in Mail and iChat are gone. Activated/enabled in preferences in each app but don't play for incoming mail/im's. What to do, what to do?
    Thanks in advance.

The same thing is going on with my mail sounds and my Trash sounds.
Instead of restarting - try to Relaunch the finder first.

  • How do I get Mail Sounds back?

    Good Morning,
I seem to have lost my mail sounds and I've tried everything. Settings in Preferences are all on set but no no sounds. It actually seems like a system thing cause the trash on desktop lost it's sound to now that I think of it.
    Is there a known conflict???
Certainly not the end of the world for me but I like my new mail sound, the airplane sound when sending and the trash emptying sound!!
    thanks,
    A Brigsy

    Hi A.Brigsy,
I have the same problem, since upgrading to 10.4, after loading, I performed a software upgrade, to 10.4.8. I thought the last upgrade would get my sounds back. I found out, if I switch from external to built in speakers, and click on the sounds, until I hear the sounds, then, switch to external, I was ok for that session, I would have to do it each time I logged in. If I find a solution, I will let you know.

  • Mail sound changed by itself; can't get previous one back

My "New mail" sound has always been the "incoming jet" sound I suppose we're all familiar with. Today, for no reason I can discern, it changed to something resembling a harp. (I've neither seen nor installed any Apple 10.5.6 updates today.)
Checking Mail's Preferences, I found it's called, apparently, "New Mail Sound." None of the ones shown in the list (Basso - Tink) sound like the harp. Worse, none sound like the jet, which I've always liked -- it seems to have vanished. When I check my home directory's Library/Sounds folder, it's empty.
Does anyone have an idea where my jet sound has gone? Or why this harp-like sound has the rather non-descriptive name "New Mail Sound" and is given a privileged place in the selections rather than appearing in the list?

Interestingly, my incoming mail sound has always been a rather anemic ding sort of sound. The Jet sound that you speak of has been, and after a Leopard install, still is, my Outgoing mail sound. This kind of makes sense, in that the Jet sound indicates that my outgoing mail has been sent and is winging it's way to the recipient. What is your Sent/Outgoing mail sound?
It kind of sounds like something in Mail has gone wonky. Somewhere on the Apple site, you can find and download mail. I was there just the other day trying to solve the one little Mail fluke I came upon when loading Leopard, which was that none of the sounds will work without the "play user interface sound effects" box checked in System Preferences/sound/sound effects. I didn't have to have that checked under Tiger, which was fine as I don't like the dippy trash empty sound Etc that those effects provide. Maybe a fresh Mail download will help you.
Other than that, about all I can suggest is running permissions, doing a shut down/restart, zapping the pram and maybe running Disc Warrior if you have it.
    Good luck ~
    Jon

  • No incoming mail sound

10.5.6 always had an incoming mail sound, and since updating to 10.5.7 no sound. The preferences still show the sound. What gives?

    Bruce,
Not sure about Mail Badger, but even in 10.5.6, the use of IDLE, at least with MobileMe, was known to inhibit the New Mail Alert -- this allows push mail, but impacts the sound.

  • Mail sounds silent

This is a problem I have on only one machine, but it's the one where I need the most timely notification.
I am greeted by silence when new mail arrives, despite having a default new mail sound, and many others using mail Rules. It matters not whether Mail is the foremost application. All other sounds in applications and the system are performing. I don't know that I've experimented with just Mail open, but I will in a moment.
Any thoughts? The silence is deafening (and I love my sounds ... ) Thanks in advance!

both the new iphone and the old one both do the same way
as long as you have the headphones plugged in you will hear it in the headphones
there is no way to "mute" it

  • IMac is running slow again after upgrading Memory to 6 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.  Mail is especially slow.  I have searched the community info, but I am really a novice and most of the solutions appear to be beyond my level of proficiency. Please help!

I am at a loss. even after reading other questions and responses.  After upgrading to Mt. Lion, everything on my iMac slowed down.  I knew more memory would be needed, so I went from 2G to 6G.  That worked for awhile, but now, about 3 weeks later, things are slowing down again.  Mail is especially slow, when moving from one message to another, and also just plain typing is delayed in mail.  iPhoto has had the spinning wheel issue since change to Mt. Lion, but it eventually stops and the app itself is functional, so this is just annoying as much as anything.
Any easy, simple to follow instructions would be appreciated.  Is it better for a novice to take to the Genius Bar or to an approved Mac repair center in my area, rather than attempt some of the solutions I've seen offered here.  And, if I do, what's the likelihood the issues will be resolvable?? Clearly, I am not the only one with this issue ...
Thanks for any help you can offer.

There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • When playing games on the ipad I have no sound and it it very slow.

when playing games downloaded from the app store I have no sound and the games arte very slow?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

    http://osxdaily.com/2013/09/23/ios-7-slow-speed-it-up/
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • T520 - 42435gg / Sound stutter and slow Graphic performance with Intel Rapid Storage AHCI Driver

    Hi everybody,
I have serious Problems with my 42435gg
Any time I install the Intel Storage AHCI Driver (I've tried plenty of different versions) which is suggested by System Update I experience a horrible Sound stutter and slow Graphic performance in Windows 7 64-Bit.
The funny thing in this case: If the external e-sata port is connected the problems do not occur. If the port is unused again, the stutter begins immediately.
The only thing I can do is using the Windows internal Storage Driver with which I am not able to use my DVD recorder for example.
The device was sent to lenovo for hardware testing with no result. It was sent back without any repairing.
    Anybody experience on this?
    Kind regards,
    Daniel
