Mail spends 5-10 mins syncing iCloud folders on open?!?

Why does Mail spend 5-10 mins synchronizing every single iCloud folder whenever I open it? This never happened before Mavericks. Does anyone experience the same behavior? Can it be fixed? Thanks!
N.B.: I have about 20,000 email msgs, I guess, in about 200 folders.

iCloud incoming/outgoing settings cannot be changed they are assigned automatically.  What you can do is quick the mail application, go into System Preferences > iCloud > Uncheck mail (which will remove the account) and then recheck (which will re add the account).  Before doing that rebuild would be a good idea also, be sure to open Window > Activity to see when it's done.
Did this. Did not work. Very very unhappy about Mail in this OS X release.

  • Mail (v5.0) doesn't sync IMAP folders

    Hi,
Since I upgraded my mac from SL to Lion, I've a big problem with Apple Mail. It doesn't sync any of the folders of my IMAP Account except the INBOX. I tried several things
deleted the whole /mail/ folder in the library
created a new user account on my mac and tried it there with my mail account
tested it on the mac of my brother (then we saw, that he has the same problem like me)
everytime there was the same result, I see the mails in my inbox, but I don't see any folder of my mailaccount.
My folderstructure (which I see in Thunderbird or in the webinterface) is build like this:
    Inbox
        folder a
        folder b
        folder c
    draft
    junk
    sent
    trash
    folder 1
    folder 2
    folder 3
But in Mail I only see:
    Inbox
    (no sent, no draft, etc.)
I tried to search through the board, but I didn't find a proper solution for this problem. I hope that you can help me.
    Thanks
    Florian

My missing folders problem has been solved. I'm not sure if both of these steps are needed because in my desire to get a fix, I tried them both back to back without letting Mail syncronize between. They are easy enough to do, so I'd try them both unless you desire to tease apart what's going on.
These steps were suggested at another forum for solving an issue with missing IMAP folders.
The first step I did was to log into my Excahnge Server email account via the web portal and created a new folder called "NewFolder" as a subfolder in an already existing folder (not the inbox). [This is the step described in the other forum, but the directions were not too clear, so I decided to try the next step in case that is what they were talking about.]
Next, I went into Mail 5.0 and selected New Mailbox... in the Mailbox menu and selected the Excahnge Server email account, and created a folder named "Newer Folder".
After clicking OK, all of the missing Exchange folders appeared under the account name in the Sidebar.
Just to be sure everything was synced, I expanded and shift-selected all of the folders and the selected "Rebuild" in the Mailbox menu. When that was done, then for good measure, I selected "Synchronize" in the Mailbox folder and chose the Exchange Server account.

  • Mail: how do I archive my icloud folders?

I have all my folders where I sort my mail on my iCloud account.
Lately my mail has been super-slow to respond to queries about older mail when I search for things. (Spotlight finds them right away, but not the search inside mail)
So..I thought maybe my mail archive is getting too big.
So I choose entire folders inside my iCloud folder list and I right click and choose export. I do this for about 20 folders.
In my activity panel there is a progress bar showing "caching" of email messages. It saves files with the same names as the folders.
But just before I hit delete I notced the file sizes of the mboxes seemed too small.
The files are usually about 422k...nowhere near what they should be.
I try to re-import the folder and nothing shows up (supposedly it is supposed to show up in an import folder but this never appears..anywhere).
According to the forums this method will not work (!). THIS IS VERY ALARMING because it feels as though this is what is supposed to happen.
If I wasn’t extra cautious I would have obliterated two years worth or correspondence because I trusted the app to do what it said it was doing.
I did a bit or research and there are 3rd party options but none of them appear to do a good job.
So..how does anyone properly and efficiently archive their iCloud mail?

    Figured it out...
Turned out iCloud does not like odd characters in the front of folders.
I had Tildes in front of special folders and folders with older projects and clients.
Once I removed the Tilde everything got a lot better.

  • I have just moved from MobileMe, where I had a 'Family account' (with unique email addresses for my wife and myself) to iCloud. We share the Cal and Contacts on our iMac. How do we sync to multiple devices - we each have iPads and iPhones? Mine sync OK...

We have just moved from MobileMe, where we had a 'Family account' (and we each have our own @me.com email addresses) to iCloud. We share the Cal and Contacts on our iMac. How do we sync to multiple devices - we each have an iPad and an iPhone, but with different accounts set up for mail. Mine syncs OK to Cal and Contacts, but hers doesn't. There must be a way! Please help.

According the this: http://www.apple.com/mobileme/transition.html, "After moving to iCloud, family member accounts are no longer linked to the master account."  You can share an iCloud calendar (see http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2690), but I don't think you will be able to share iCloud contacts unless you are signed into the same iCloud account on both phones.

  • Hi! I cannot remove from my iCloud account an associate e-mail, which is not mine but my daughter... Could anybody help me?

    Hi!
I cannot remove from my iCloud account an associate e-mail, which is not mine but my daughter... Could anybody help me?
That email address, appart from mine, appears in every single device I have, iphone, ipad, macair... When I sync it merges my personal data with hers (my daughter)...

To fix this, one of you should migrate their devices to a new account.  To migrate to a new account, start by saving any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow), then tapping Save to Camera Roll.  If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself so you can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account (which only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud), provide the password to turn off Find My iDevice and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted.  Then sign back in with a different Apple ID to create your new account and choose Merge to upload your data.  If you have other iOS devices, you can just save the photos stream photos to the camera roll, delete the existing account, choose Delete from My iDevice (since the data is already in the other account), then sign into the new account.  If you have a Mac that needs to change to the account, go to System Preferences>iCloud, sign out, choose Delete at all of the prompts, then sign back into the new account.
Once you are on separate accounts, you can each go to icloud.com and delete the other person's data from your account.

  • Was wondering if it is possible to sync the folders in mac mail on my imac to my mac book pro rather than recreating them

was wondering if it is possible to sync the folders in mac mail on my imac to my mac book pro rather than recreating them

There are two standard protocols for receiving email, POP and IMAP. In the POP (Post Office Protocol) when messages are "read" by your email client (Mail) they are downloaded and stored on the reading computer and deleted from the POP server. When you are using IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) the messages remain on the IMAP server until they are deleted. IMAP was created for exactly the situation you are trying to achieve. For example Apple's iCloud (formerly me.com, formerly mac.com) uses IMAP protocol. So whether I access my email on my Mac, my iPhone, my iPad, or via webmail I have access to all the files in all the various mailboxes automatically because they are all seeing and using the same online mailboxes. If I delete a message on any of the varioius devices it is deleted on all of the various devices.
Whether you can use IMAP protocol or not depends on your email host and whether they have an IMAP server or not. Many ISPs do not offer IMAP because they do not want to bear the expense of the additional disk space required to store the IMAP messages. As I mentioned before Apple's free email service is by default IMAP. Google Mail offers a somewhat non-standard IMAP service. It works with Apple's email client, Mail, but it is just a bit "different".
Personally I resisted using IMAP for years. Largely because I had always used POP and was comfortable with it. Once I got an iPhone and needed to synch my email between my computer and iPhone I realized IMAP was "the only way to go."

  • I have a  macbook, an ipad, and an iphone with the Mail app on all three synced through icloud, but when I read and delete emails on my phone, the inbox on my ipad is not update, so I have to go through and mark as read or delete messages again. How can I

I have a  macbook, an ipad, and an iphone with the Mail app on all three synced through icloud, but when I read and delete emails on my phone, the inbox on my ipad is not update, so I have to go through and mark as read or delete messages again. How can I sync my iphone and ipad? (it seems like each is synced only to my laptop, so don't synchronize until I go home and use my laptop.

POP: yahoo, aol, comcast/time warnder/road runner
Imap: google, hotmail, and more including icloud.
If you want to use multiple devices - move to imap, I would even say "exchange", but Google does not support free exchange anymore, since January of that year. So Ironically  Icloud or Hotmail would be my choices right now.
To find out more about what happens to you, search on Google "difference between pop and imap"

  • Syncing iCloud with contacts and calendar in MS Outlook 2007, will get message that "the set of folders cannot be opened.  The information store could not be opened."

I install the iCloud Control Panel and information is uploaded from my Outlook Contact folder to iCloud.  ICloud folders are created and syncing process between my iPhone, iCloud, and Outlook works for a while (day or 2).  Then, when I open Outlook after a day of 2, I get the above message that "The set of folders cannot be opened.  The information store could not be opened."  The only resolve that I have found is to uninstall the iCloud Control Panel, the reboot my Windows computer, then reinstall the iCloud Control Panel and resync contacts and calendar to icloud.  This is getting to be very cumbersome to use this feature.  What is the cause of the problem that it keeps on disconnecting to iCloud?

I have also fixed it by uninstalling and then reinstalling iCloud, but as you have experienced, the problem recurs without reason.  Apple would/could not help as they say that the problem is with Microsoft's Outlook and that I should talk to them.  Microsoft's techies won't help without me paying some £200 as I have a Professional - a student's - version of Office 2007.  This is scandalous.  It is obvious, from the many who have reported the same problem n this forum, that Microsoft should look into this urgently and create a fix

  • Mail, Contacts, Calendar not available on iCloud Control Panel on my Win 7 PC for Outlook sync

I have loaded iCloud Control Panel 4.0 on my PC (Win 7 64)
The iCloud Drive, photos & Bookmarks is available to be switched on/off but Mail, Contacts, Calendar etc not available. Instead just a message on top that says you can access Mail, Contacts, Calendar, and Reminders at iCloud.com.
How do I setup iCloud so that the Calendar & Contacts on my OUTLOOK 2010 are synced with my iPhone &iPad?

    Hey RuiEVG,
Thanks for the question. The following resource outlines troubleshooting information for using iCloud contacts on a Windows PC. It may be that your version of Outlook is not supported:
    Get help using iCloud Contacts

    Check the system requirements
Make sure that your PC meets the iCloud system requirements.
iCloud Control Panel doesn't support Outlook 2010 Personal Edition.
    Thanks,

    Use Windows System Restore.
Then choose where you want your stuff, locally in Outlook or online in iCloud.

  • Iphone 5C and Ipad Mini Retina icloud tabs do not sync?

I have icloud for safari turned on on my iphone 5c and my ipad mini.  When I open a website on my iphone 5c I can not see that website on my ipad mini when I hit the icloud icon.  Also when I open a website on my ipad mini in safari it wont show that website on my 5c but instead show a website that I opened on my ipad mini a week ago.  I tried rebooting the iphone and ipad, I tried signing out of icloud on both devices and signing back in, I turned off icloud and then turned it back on on both devices and nothing seems to be working to get them to sync.  Is this a common problem with the new iOS update or am I just going crazy over something stupid?

If you are talking about iCloud tabs, check to make sure you haven't inadvertently turned on private browsing on one or both of your devices.  When you do, they will stop syncing iCloud tabs until private browsing is turned off again.

  • Icloud folders gone from mail after upgrade to Mavericks

Before upgrading to Mavericks, I had an Icloud folders displayes in the mailboxes setion of mail.   After upgrading, they are no longer there.
    Any ideas?

Same thing for me too.  Late 2012 13" MBP Retina.  I have to unplug the Thunderbolt cable and plug it back in.
This has only started for me in the last two days.  The first two weeks of Mavericks was ok.
Update:  I just got back from a trip.  I was using the laptop separate from the Thunderbolt display.  I hadn't restarted since I returned and connected the monitor.  I've just rebooted, and put the computer to sleep.  After resuming from sleep, the display is ok.  Maybe try rebooting?  I'll update if it continues.

  • HT4898 How can I continue sync my various Mail Accounts when I move to iCloud?

How can I continue sync my various Mail Accounts when I move to iCloud?

I wasn't aware that you could sync other mail accounts with MobileMe, other than their settings. If you are referring to settings, then they should already be set up on your mobile device, any new accounts would need to be added manually.
POP accounts will continue to receive and send e-mail but will not sync (so for example if you delete an e-mail on one device it won't be deleted on the other), IMAP/exchange accounts will continue to function as they always have.

The password for your Apple ID and iCloud are the same if you signed up for iCloud with your Apple ID. Are you sure that you already signed up for iCloud? See also: "How do I sign up for iCloud?" http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4436
