Mail stalls whenever I click or scroll while activity bar moves
When clicking the incoming mail window, Mail stalls. This stalling occurs whenever the Mail activity bar shows progress for incoming mail. Is there a prohibition against clicking or scrolling in Mail whenever the Mail activity window progress bar is visible? Must one wait until the Mail activity bar finishes?

Yes. Otherwise Mail can't update the status of any new mail you may have, since it needs to finish checking the servers, synchronizing (if you use IMAP mail), and downloading new messages. <Edited by Host>

Mail slows to a trickle and then freezes - Activity Monitor shows all OK
I've been having this issue recently where I will be typing an email and I notice I begin to outpace Mail's ability to display the letters I am typing until finally it stops altogether.
At this point Mail becomes almost completely unresponsive. I can still click on the email modal window in question and move it around, but I can't access the Mail main window or click buttons and the menu bar doesn't come up.
The weird thing is that Activity Monitor appears to think that everything is kosher. No CPU spikes, no memory issues, no excessive writing, and no network log jams. So it actually never displays the message "Application Unresponsive" as one would normally expect from an unresponsive app.
The console messages that appear at this time are:

I thought F4M was Flip 4 Mac, but I have no idea why that would be tied to a Mail process.
Any thoughts or ideas would be welcome on troubleshooting this!

I have never experienced what you describe so I am fishing a bit.
Try rebuilding the mailbox(s).
If that does not help, trash the preference file (com.apple.mail.plist) and restart.
One other thought - I have read that Mail will have strange behavior if the mailboxes are too full. However, I have no clue how +"too full"+ is defined.

Whenever I click my mouse, I get a drop-down menu. I can't click on anything. Can't type anything. Can't open or search. It started with my Mac Mail, but is also doing this on Safari. Tried shutting everything down. Tried checking preferences and mouse settings. I am using a different computer to send this because I can't do anything on mine with the mouse acting that way. Does anyone have any ideas?
It sounds as if your mouse is stuck on right-click. Try cleaning the mouse or giving it a good rap on the desk to get it working properly again.

Whenever I click on a link in an e-mail, "no application found" pops up.
Google Chrome downloaded automatically when I installed another program. After that, whenever I clicked on an e-mail link, my browser became Google Chrome. I unistalled Google Chrome. Since uninstalling Google Chrome, I can not open email links. The box with "no application found" comes up.
it seems possible that there was some corruption in your system (registry) and once you uninstalled Internet Explorer, your system didn't have any choice but to insist on opening web pages in the default browser (in your case, FireFox)
There are numerous ways to 'screw up' defaults - both as DEFAULT PROGRAMS, and as ASSOCIATED FILE TYPES (Control Panel)
If messing with the control panel doesn't work, another idea is to: SET INTERNET EXPLORER as Default, check to see that it works as expected, reboot your machine, SET FIREFOX as Default; reboot.

Uninstalling may not be an ideal fix for those who use Internet Explorer occasionally --- as i do for "Print Selected" : I.E. allows you to "Print Selection" of text/images on a web page, and then VIEW (Print Preview) the selection and adjust the margins and 'Scale' so as to fit your selection in the correct SIZE and the correct NUMBER of pages. None of the plugins/extensions for FF seem to do this properly (in my experience).
Nonetheless (if you need Internet Explorer), it may be possible for users to do as "NIGH" has pointed out (uninstall Internet Explorer), reboot, and then immediately reinstall it. This may 'FIX' the OPEN IN [default] BROWSER issue (you might still have to go in and select FF as default), but you might have to accept other complications with the use of Internet Explorer - i.e. the different preferences that I.E. uses (that you had set before uninstalling) may have to be 're-selected' or 're-implemented'.

Facebook and apps freeze whenever I click anywhere on the page.
I open Facebook and immediatly the page stops scrolling, the mouse wont move,and every game either doesnt load or freezes.Always takes forever for the game to load if it even tries to load.

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

On every other day Mail will stall. The Mail activity bar will sometimes partially complete its progression then stall; at other times it reaches the limit of its progression and then stalls. On some occasions if I wait a while, Mail will mysteriously resume, but on most occasions, I must force quit which always takes an extended period of time (most of an hour, sometimes more), because the active application indicator remains lit during this waiting period after force quit, and Mail remains unavailable until the indicator disappears. Quite often, due to the constraints of time, I have had to shut the iMac off and restart. I don't dare use the Apple Menu Shut Down, because the spinning gear will spin interminably as if the iMac is stuck on some process and won't let go. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have a resolution for this problem? Thanks in advance for your help.
It happens to me. 10.5.7 here and suddenly it has been three or four days that Mail stalls for like a min or two. If I click on the dock icon, for example, sometimes I have to wait for about a minute before it jumps to the right "space" or any other action (quitting, creating a new message....etc).
I have tried to quit it and reopen it, but nothing changed. After about an hour or even a bit less, it stalls again. then it resumes and stalls back continously
Nothing appears to be done in the activity window... no task, no action. The connection is fine (10 Mbps) and my Mac Pro is healthy and full of RAM so it doesn't seem to have any external reason.
Any suggestions?

Firefox did an automatic update to 6.01, and now my middle mouse button is not working in the browser. It doesn't close tabs, it doesn't open new tabs by middle clicking a link, it doesn't allow me to middle click to scroll the page..

I'm on Firefox 3.6.21, and I got this problem today after a Greasemonkey update (To version 0.9.10, apparently).
Disabling Greasemonkey solved the problem, and re-enabling it reproduced the problem (middle-clicking links to open in new tab did not work, merely highlighted the link).
I should also note that while Greasemonkey was enabled and the bug was affecting me, Ctrl+Click to open links in new tabs was also broken.

ince updating my firefox browser whenever i click on an internet link in an email it does not open on firefox athough my mac switches to the firefox window as i have this set to be my default browser- what should i do?
I have the same problem, and I also wondered if Google toolbar has anything to do with it. There GMAIL was set as the default mail application at first. I have removed that setting, but Firefox 4.0.1 continues to use GMAIL instead of Outlook which is my selection for mailto handling.

Whenever I go to a site or click anything, I always have to move my mouse for the page to load, why is this happening? (When I go to a site full of images, I move my mouse a little bit at a time and it loads one image at a time)

FYI: You've not stated which of your listed Macs is having the problem. However, the following may help in any case:
1. Did you install Front Row using the Front Row hack on a Mac that did not ship from the factory with Front Row installed? If so, See my "Uninstalling the Front Row hack" FAQ. This has been known to cause a variety of problems, including the menu bar (Clock, Spotlight) issues you noted.
2. If you did not install the Front Row Hack, an incompatible or corrupted Startup or Login Item may be partly to blame for the problems with the menu bar. My "Troubleshooting Startup and Login Items" FAQ can help you pin that down if such an item is causing the problem.
3. As a general check, run the procedure specified in my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ. Perform the steps therein in the order specified.

I'm having an issue with Colorsync Utility. When I open the utility I can access Profile First Aid, Profiles and the Calculator but whenever I click on Devices or Filters, it hangs and I have to force quit. I recently re-profiled my NEC monitor using xRite i1Profiler Pro and saved the ICC profile as "version 4". When I went to use the Nik's ColorEfex Pro 4 plug-in, in Adobe Photodhop CS5.1 (Creative Suite 5.5), I got a cyan cast across all my images. Nik said it had to do with a corrupt ICC profile but when I ran Profile First Aid, the only profile that came up as needing repair ( and couldn't) was EW-sRGB. I reprofiled the monitor only this time I saved it as "version 2", and the plug-in worked fine. What surprises me is that Colorsync Utilty always used to work without issue, and I never seemed to have a problem creatinga and saving ICC profiles using version 4. Any ideas as to what is causing this problem and how to fix this?

JamesI updated my software, and deleted my history/cache. Also, when I try to use Preview, it says that it was forced to quit while restoring windows, so when I click restore windows nothing happens. I can't view anything either. The only thing I can think that may have caused these problems is I tried to shut down and had to force it to by holding the power button. I rarely shut it off.

Mail stalls receiving messages from Mail Delivery System MAILER-DAEMON
I changed ISP to prevent this occuring, yet it still occurs with new ISP.
When there's a post of this kind in on the server, Mail stalls while downloading and I then need to forve quite mail, go online, remove the message from the server, then launch mail, <Opt-X> to destroy the mail, reapeatedly ( as it tried to hang around) then download again, successfully.
Why does this happen, and how can I prevent it in future?

peterApple's mail software is is quite poorly implemented. It tends to hog your machine's resources. I don't think there is anything you can do other than use another mail client or wait for Apple to provide a decent implementation of a mail client.

Safari slower than Firefox - especially on 2 finger scrolls while loading..
When I surf the web on my air I notice that Safari loads a page and will not let me 2 finger scroll until it has loaded enough or has the flash or java app all the way in... while Firefox will load a page faster and allow me to 2 finger scroll while its loading.... I notice this on pages that have flash banners or stuff on them... at first I thought it was the air being to slow so I tried firefox on the same pages and they load quicker and always allow me to 2 finger scroll..... Anyone else notice this ? I prefer to use Safari but I cant stand the stalling it does while loading certain pages with banner ads or too much flash/java...
Basically until Safari's blue bar is gone you'll get 2 finger scroll stopage while Firefox will scroll... is firefox more optimized or something... ?Running OS 10.6.7 plus last Firefox before 4.0. Reluctant to move to 4.0 as it is still new.
This is a new problem, beginning in the last month or so for me, I think. While it seems much longer, I believe the delay is about 20 seconds, and it does happen every time Firefox launches.
Further, sometimes (do not yet see a pattern) well after launch, when attempting to navigate on a website...Firefox isn't paying attention. I think the interruption may be 20 seconds here, as well. Then all is well.
No magic living color pinwheel displayed by uncle Mac during either delay.
Did I mention table pounding frustration when on deadline? -
MAIL stalls fetching and completing its tasks
When I select get mail, the activity view shows that it's fetching all mails and stalls at the last email. The spinning wheel go on and on. I've tried to re-index my mail by removing the envelope index from the /library/mail folder,but it too stalls at some point. I'm at a loss?
I selected the "Rebuild." When I next opened Mail, I clicked the inbox before the Mail Activity progress bar was finished, Mail stalled, and I had to use force quit again.

Firefox will not scroll while pictures still being downloaded
When accessing any website that contains text and graphics, the text usually downloads first and most people want to read that without waiting for the grphics nor the adverts. But FF32.03 does not allow scrolling until the whole of the page has downloaded, which can take quite a while on slower connections (our is at best 2.5 Mbps, faster is not available). And example would be a page from the BBC News website, most of which contain loads of text and some pictures but I want to read the text while the pictures download - and I'm not interested in the adverts as I never read them.
It would be most usely if the page would scroll while the graphics are still downloading. Please can this be implimented?I was researching some of the about:config entries that control the scrolling.
Currently the oe feature to turn off smooth scrolling in Firefox is in this menu: Firefox Menu > Options> Advanced > General "use smooth scrolling" or "use auto scrolling"
Oddly enough however, that site bbc uk does not let me scroll until the page is loaded. However I turned off the two features above and after clicking a couple of different articles it improved a little.
I also tried to disable javascript temporarily, but this would break parts of the page. Ad block plus might help specify scripts on the page, however this will create a poor performance in Firefox.
