Mail starts on it's own?
Mail is starting up all by itself. It's shut down at night, but then in the morning, it's started up again. It's a problem because then email can't be checked online if it's being downloaded to the computer. Anyone else seen this?
You probably have iCal set to launch upon login. Maybe it tries to send a reminder to you for which it uses Mail.app which of course then is started by iCal.
You can configure the deletion time of retrieved eMail in the advanced section of your Account configuration. Set it to a week or so then you can easily see your eMails via Webmail as well as having them in your Mail.app.

Apple Mail starts up automatically!
I don't use Mail, although I did try it once and have accounts defined it in. Weirdly, about once a month (randomly - no schedule that I can determine), I come in to work and see that Mail was run (the app opened) by itself during the night! Physical security is not an issue - it's not being done manually by anyone. What could cause Mail to start up on its own from time to time??
Do you use "to dos" in iCal? If you do and configure it to notify you by email when a to do experies, it will use the Mail app to send it (and therefor automatically launch it).

Gnome: browser and mail starting by accident while scrolling
I notice a strange behavior of gnome. While I scroll my mouse (or do the same with the touchpad), the default applications for browsing and mails start up. It seems to happen by accident. This happens on both laptops I own that run arch.

Mail starts up at 9am every day, why?
Since I installed 10.6 Mail starts up at 9am every day all on it's own. How can I disable this or find out why/how it's happening? Thanks.

I've been using Mail since upgrading to Mountain Lion last fall with absolutely no problems. I noticed a few days ago that there was a ML update but had NOT installed it just yet. Today when I came to my computer I noticed Mail had closed on its own so I restarted it. Within about 20 seconds of being open (and me doing nothing) it crashes. This happened 3 times. So I wondered if something with the ML update was supposed to fix this so I went ahead and installed the update, rebooted, went ahead and repaired permissions while I was at it and then crossed my fingers.
Nope. Mail still crashes. Any idea what would cause this all of a sudden? And how do I fix it?! I have TONS of my work in there that I must be able to access somehow...

Mail starting to down load into the wrong folder, Why?
Why did mail start putting mail in the wrong folder ? How can rules change ? can I down load only the Mail app ?

Help my macbook keeps starting on it's own
hello i've just brought this secondhand macbook 2007 , it came installed with os x lion from it's previous owner , and it had this problem where it would just start up on it's own while the lid was closed .
so i uninstalled lion , and installed my own copy of os x snow leopard , but unfortunely it's still doing this auto start own it's own .
it seems to be doing this at anytime it wishes , it might take 2 mins after shut down before it starts up again , but then the nxt time around , it might take 6 hrs later , then it will happen .
i've run the disk utillies from the os x disk about 15 times now , and it keeps telling me about this permissions problem , which when i run the repair persmissions part , it just doesn't seem to want to fix it after it has finished .
i've tried doing the smc thing , and also taking out the battery , and holding down the power button for 20 secs .
the battery when i recieved this mac was stuffed and nolonger taking a charge , i was wondering if this could be the promblem . ?
i've tried most of the ideas floating around here on the net , but now i'm at a loss lol , so any suggestions would be fantasic .
p.s the mac will start normally , and also all my programmes are running fine , it also shuts down normal as well ............... confused as to why it keeps wanting to start on it's own at anytime of the day or night with the lid closed lol ????????The permissions issue has nothing to do with the random startup. The MacBook does not even look at software until after it powers on. Since you have already reset the SMC, you are looking at a deeper hardware issue. Contact Apple using www.apple.com/support/contact if you are in a country that supports it or call the appropriate phone number on this page. Alternatively carry the MacBook in to an Apple retail store or service provider to ask for an estimate.

My macbook pro (August 2010) keeps freezing when apple mail starts up. This happens every 2nd time I turn on my Macbook Pro. This forces me to hold down the power button to restart my Macbook Pro. Does anyone else experience this, and is there a fix? Thx.
since upgrading to OS lion, my mac book pro (2010 August) keeps freezing (non responsive, requires restart) when i turn on my mac and the system is trying to open apple mail. while apple mail is attempting to collect new mail, the macbook pro freezes. this happens every 2nd time i try to start up my computer. this only started happening after i upgraded to OS lion. please let me know what I need to do to fix this. being forced to restart every 2nd time i turn on my macbook pro has been very frustrating. not sure if apple mail is also the cause of my macbook pro for being very slow during start-up (on the occasion the computer doesn't freeze).I am having similar 'freezing' problems with many programs (Mail, Safari, iTunes, etc.). I have done a clean install of Lion instead of an upgrade when it came out. Perhaps something went wrong with my install? I'm thinking about wiping and reinstalling.

After installing Leopard, my iMac starts up on its own at 10PM
Hello.
I just installed Leopard on my iMac last night, and everything seemed to be ok - except for the long lasting blue screen after starting up, which I will take care of soon. However, after I shut it down, the machine started up on its own at 10 PM. I shut it down. Today, when I got home at 10:13 PM, it was on again, without anybody touching it. It must have started up at 10, because the screen was not sleeping. I checked the System Preferences to see if any start up were scheduled, but no. Any insights on what might be going on? Could I have done anything wrong upon installation?

Miss_BI've got to ask this question because in all of the years I have used Apples and Macs, I didn't know you could schedule a start up.
Where in System Preferences do you do that? I didn't see an icon for start ups other than startup disk and didn't find anything there. -
Apple Mail starts automatically
Hello! I have the problem that since the last update for OS 10.3.9 the application mail starts automatically after turn on the mac. Theres no alias in the autostart an no script. Did anybody knows this problem? Thanks.

I am not sure what you mean by "autostart". Do you mean that the Mail application is not listed under System Preferences>Accounts>Startup Items tab?
If it is listed there you can use the "-" sign after you have selected it in the list to delete it.

My iTunes on my iMac is in an endless loop of starting on it's own and then crashing
How do I stop this endless loop of iTunes starting on it's own and then crashing only to begin over and over again? It has made using my iMac useless as the crash report window always covers whatever other window I have open. Since it's in an endless loop, closing the window will do no good as the next crash will cause the window again to cover all work! I'm using a mid 2007 iMac with Lion and the latest version of iTunes. I'm starting to feel like my mac is Microsoft Windows machine with the constant crashing! Thank goodness it's only the iTunes program that's crashing and not the computer!

Close All Open Apps... Sign Out of your Account... Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
Release the Buttons...

Also consider Deleting any Apps you have Purchased / Downloaded but you now never use.. -

This is my basic, first start, recommended "fix" when these types of weird, unexplained things occur on the iPad. Give it a try. After you reboot, go back to the mail app and see if the messages will load.
Quit the mail app completely and reboot the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -

Mail starts to play send/receive sounds whenever I plug in a audio cable into the macbook pro

I have this strange bug:
I have Mail running and I plug in an audio cable into the audio out jack. Then Mail starts to play send and receive sounds endlessly. Then I have to quit Mail and start it again. Then everything is fine. I think I can live with that, but it's also kind of annoying. Any hints?
