Mail stopped downloading

I have 4 email mailboxes in "mail" but one of them stopped downloading e-mails. Yet when I pull up "account info" I can see the missing e-mails but can't open them. Does anyone know how to get them to down load again in the usual mailbox?
   Thanks

Does your provider have some kind of limit to the amount of boxes or emails you can have for any particular period.   Call them and ask if you are unsure, at which time you could mention your problem.   They may have ideas.

  • Mail stops downloading from pop3

    Hello,
Our company uses GroupWise 7, and I have MBP and Mac Pro downloading messages from the pop3 server using Mail.
Few days ago, Mail stopped downloading new messages from the server on BOTH MBP and Mac Pro.
    1. The pop server is running fine for other users. Users download messages using Thurnderbird and other clients.
    2. When Mail checks new messages, Activity Window tells me that it logs in fine, but returns no new messages although there are.
    3. I've tried to reset the program by deleting the preferences file. Initially, it downloads missing messages fine, but after that it stops working again. This only works one time.
    4. I've tried to resetting the program and the counter, but it hasn't worked.
Does anyone have a solution to this issue? Please help!
    Thank you very much.

Yeah, after a little further digging I found this thread...

It seems that they still don't have a fix, but an alternate to resetting the phone is holding the home key for 5-6 seconds while in the mail app. This will restart the app and get your email flowing again without having to restart the phone.

  • Why has Mail stopped downloading messages from the web-mail server

I have several e-mail accounts that have all worked well until recently when one (tesco.net) has stopped downloading messages. I can send mail from the account ok and can see the unopened mail on the web server. I have not changed the settings and the Doctor comes up with all buttons green confirming internet connection to server. I phoned Tesco support but they say they cannot see a problem. Any advice anyone?

This is the total readout from Connection Doctor, I'm only concerned with the Tesco.net account.

  • Mail stopped downloading my email

I have 2 gmail accounts and a yahoo account. I had Mail set up to download all three; for some unknown reason, Mail has stopped downloading emails from the yahoo account and from one of the gmail accounts; how do I correct this?

"Are you sure you want to remove the “Gmail 2” POP account and all of its messages? The account’s setup information, mailboxes, and all messages will be deleted permanently from your computer. Copies of messages on the mail server, if they exist, will not be affected."
Apologies for the delay in responding.
That's why I posted in an earlier message "I'd check your Gmail account online. If you see all your e-mail there, I'd delete the Gmail account in Mail and create it again."
But I don't want to lose all messages from my computer, and I have the account set to erase them from the server once they're downloaded. Is there another way without losing all my messages?
Since you've moved Gmail messages from the server to mailboxes "on my Mac", you would lose those.
Can you move those messages back to the server before you delete the account from Mail?

  • Apple Mail stops downloading emails at a certain point

    Hello,
I have just recently started to use Apple Mail (3.6) and set up two accounts: one POP for hotmail and one IMAP for gmail. While sending mails works fine with both accounts, the hotmail one stops downloading mails from the server at a certain point.
From the approximately 15000 mails on the server, Mail downloads about 3000 (the oldest ones, which I neither need nor want on my computer anyway) and then stops. When I click on receive new mails, it will show the connecting sign as usual. The bar on the left, which indicates how many e-mails remain on the server and how many are currently being downloaded, pops up for a second, telling me that all remaining 12000 e-mails have been downloaded in the same time span - which obviously didn't happen.
I have already tried deleting downloaded mails from my computer, thinking that there might be a limit to the number of mails saved on the desktop. Also I deleted the whole account and set it up again, but the same thing happened at exactly the same point, respectively the same email downloaded. What to do?
Thanks to everyone who can help me out with this!

Yes, these were the e-mails that showed up in the inbox, i.e. they were the chunk of mails that I could download before Apple Mail stopped the downloading at all. I deleted them because I thought it would make space for newer ones to be downloaded.
No, I have not used any other Mail application before. I used to go directly to the hotmail-webpage.
Interestingly, I have deleted the whole account again and set it up anew - which enabled Apple Mail to another round of downloading mails when I did it the last time. This time however, nothing happened: again, the bar on the left appears for a second, telling me that around 12000 mails are on my server and that all have been downloaded in about this second. But they do not show up. It remains a mistery to me, even more so as Mail is obviously able to detect all mails on the server (when I check under Account Information, Emails on Server) but not to download them.

  • Att yahoo pop3 mail stopped downloading

A few days ago my pop email from ONE of my att accounts stopped downloading onto both my imac G5 and my ibook. I still can send messages, and another att yahoo account I have will send AND receive in the same apple mail application. I also can get my .mac email in apple mail.
Can pick up the att messages for the problem account on the web email interface and on my iphone, but I don't understand why I stopped getting them on the apple mail application.
Have checked all account settings and they are correct according to att's web site and support people. Have spent an hour on the phone with att yahoo support people, and they can't fix it.
Have also tried deleting the email account and setting it up again. Have dragged the com.apple.mail.plist file out of my library and onto the desktop to mimic setting mail up from scratch again. Apple Mail's "GET INFO" function can see the messages on the server, but they won't download.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Casaros

You’re welcome, but I cannot assume anything you don’t tell us. What you had already tried is essential information that you should have provided from the very beginning...
Actually, it isn’t clear whether you tried removing from the server the particular message that Mail could be choking on or removed something else, nor whether Mail is really failing to download the messages or it’s actually downloading them but you have some rules that process them in an unexpected way...
Do the messages that Mail displays in the Account Info window, but apparently doesn’t download, appear there as already downloaded or as not downloaded yet (dot column)? If they appear as not downloaded yet, does Mail display any extraneous info for any of them, e.g. a size or a date that doesn’t make sense?
Not sure how Eudora or Thunderbird will help me here.
Well, reading what I said in the same paragraph where I suggested using another mail client would answer that, i.e. to avoid losing messages that Mail hasn’t downloaded yet as a result of removing them from the server...
    <hr>
For POP accounts, Mail uses a file within the account folder to keep track of which messages have already been downloaded. You may try deleting that file so that Mail treats the messages still on the server as if new and tries to download them again:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to the ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/ account folder.
    3. Locate one or two files named MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded and move them to the Trash. Mail 1.x used MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded to keep track of which messages had already been downloaded. Mail 2.x uses MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded2 for the same purpose.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

  • Mail Stops Downloading!!??

    Hey Everyone,
My iPhone (on restart) will download my pop mail from 3 accounts, then after about 2 hours, it stops receiving emails. I have to restart my phone to get it to retrieve the messages. If I don't restart it just hangs on the 'connecting..' alert...
I have it set to auto check for new messages every 30 minutes. I never had this problem until I upgraded to 2.0
Has anyone else run into this??
    Thanks All!

Yeah, after a little further digging I found this thread...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1603761&tstart=135
It seems that they still don't have a fix, but an alternate to resetting the phone is holding the home key for 5-6 seconds while in the mail app. This will restart the app and get your email flowing again without having to restart the phone.

  • Mail stops downloading from exchange server. Renewal of account brings temporary relief only. Anyone know this? Any solution?

Mail worked properly, then some folders were invisible (sent mail) yet still visible on iPhone exchange account. Then download of inbox stopped in an endless waiting position with erratic messages about current activity. A rebuild of the account brought temporary relief, then the same thing started again. I have seen similar postings, is this a bug? Does anyone have a solution?

Since my uograde to Mavericks 10.9.3, mac mail is not allowing me to send large files with the same behavior described in thread by mikemachead original post here. I have tried the de selecting and selecting back the "store drafts in server" , rebooted multiple times, yet keeps asking me to select SMTP as the exchange server supposedly cannot send it. I have no limits set in the server(in fact I receive emails with large attachments) and had no issues up until the update. Anyone have suggestions as to how to fix it???

  • Mail stops downloading from server

    Hello all -
    We are running 10.3.9 on a 733MHz Tower G4.
We have four separate user accounts, each of which uses the same Mail application (1.3.11). With three of the accounts, there is no problem. However, there is a goofy problem when using Mail on the fourth account.
After successfully running Mail for "a while" (downloading, sending, etc), we suddenly get the following error message when attempting to look at any mail:
"The message from (what we're trying to look at) has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."
We are, in fact, online and have been opening and reading mail messages for "a while."
This error message appears not only when we try to open a new mail, but also when we try to look again at a mail we've already opened! No matter what we try to read (new or already opened), we get only the error message, not the mail message.
Quitting Mail and restarting it solves the problem, for a while. But it eventually rears its ugly head again.
    Any ideas - ??
    Thanks in advance -
    - The OldFart

What type of account is this (POP, IMAP, .Mac)?

  • Gmail stopped downloading; can redownload all mail but just want new items

Yesterday Mail stopped downloading my e-mail from Gmail via POP. Looking at an old forum post, I saw a suggestion from someone to try deleting MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded2 from the ~/Library/Mail/[account]/ folder. Doing so causes Mail to start downloading my mail from Gmail starting with the first message in my Gmail account, a process that would take days to complete. I tried to edit the file, but it doesn't really make sense to me. All of the "DateDownloaded" keys seem to have a value of sometime (different times) in February 2006. I tried leaving only one of them (I tried both the first key/value pair and the last), but that just started downloading from the beginning also.
Is there any way to get Mail to download messages only after x date, or to somehow fix whatever is wrong with my record of Uids Downloaded?
Thank you for any help you can provide,
    Greg

If I remove the file again, it will start downloading not after the
point where it had left off, but again at the very beginning.
Does Mail actually complete the download or does it stall at some point? I mean, what may be happening here is that Gmail doesn’t mark those messages as already downloaded because Mail doesn’t complete the transaction.
The presence of MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded2 can certainly make a difference for messages that Gmail hasn’t marked as already downloaded for some reason or if there is something wrong with that file, but there is no way the presence of that file could have an impact on messages that had successfully been downloaded in a completed transaction.
I have connected from multiple devices, as I stated before.
Well, you talked about “programs”, not “devices”. Note that in the list of idiosyncrasies that you don’t find useful I talk about “conventional POP mail clients”. Some handheld devices appear to not be affected by this.
The inability to download a message to a computer more than once is actually a “feature” documented here:
What happens to messages stored on Gmail's servers?
The ability to download messages on multiple devices is documented here:
How should I use POP on mobile or multiple devices?
I am neither an incompetent computer user nor someone fabricating
this wacky e-mail story just for kicks.
Nor have I ever thought that was the case, but knowing how Gmail works, I do know that some of the things you said had to be necessarily wrong.
In particular, in the case of a Gmail account, there is no way removing MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded2 from the account folder might cause Mail to start downloading everything from the server again after having successfully done that at least once. The only way that might happen is if you had also selected Enable POP for all mail in Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP page, which you haven’t mentioned at all in any of your posts.
While you keep saying that you understand how Gmail works, the fact is that some of the things you’ve said are wrong, and you’ve ignored/omitted essential information about the things you’ve done that clearly indicate you don’t fully understand how Gmail POP access really works. I’m sorry if telling you that offends you, but I must do so in order to be able to help you...

  • Mail App stopped downloading new messages from Gmail

I'm using MBP with OS X Lion.
I've been using Mail App for my two Gmail accounts. I also use two different types of mail downloading systems (POP and IMAP) for them. For some reason, the speed of downloading new messages started slowing down a few weeks ago; however, I could still use it until today. Today, it seems like it is completely out.
It just stopped downloading new messages completely.
For the POP account, it says:
There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “POP” or try again.
The server returned the error: The connection to the server “pop.gmail.com” on port 995 timed out.
For the IMAP account, it says:
There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “IMAP” or try again.
The server returned the error: The connection to the server “pop.gmail.com” on port 993 timed out.
The weird part is that I can still send an email out of those accounts fine.
I checked the settings for Gmail, and everything seemed just fine.
I tried to re-do everything so deleted the IMAP account. Now it shows the message below:
The Google IMAP server “imap.gmail.com” is not responding. Try checking the network connection, and that the server name is correct. Otherwise, the server might be temporarily unavailable. If you continue, you might not be able to receive messages.
I tried Connection Doctor and it shows as below:
I followed the suggestion by changing unchecking those boxes for SSL, but it didn't help either.
I tried "Rebuild" under mail box menu bar but it also didn't do anything.
Can anyone help me with this issue?
    Thank you in advance.

By the way, my Mail App is version 5.3

  • Get Mail to Stop Downloading Junk from Exchange Server

Our company uses Comcast Business Class for email service. They in turn are running Exchange 2007 servers.
I recently had to reconfigure all my email accounts do to a corrupt Mail plist. Upon doing so, I found out about Mail 4.2's (Snow Leopard edition) ability to auto discover Exchange server configurations. Pretty nifty. With one caveat. Apple Mail is downloading all the Junk mail that winds up on the Exchange server. Which is quite a bit.
Originally, before the corrupt plist problem, my Mail 4.2 was upgraded from Leopard and the account information transferred using the non-auto discovery method, if you will. When it was setup that way, there were only about two or three Junk messages that breached the barrier per day. Now I'm getting dozens.
On to my question: is there a way to configure Mail to stop downloading Junk mail from an Exchange server and just leave the Junk on the Exchange server?

    Thanks, William.
They are, fortunately, being filtered into my Junk folder in Mail. There is the occasional culprit who sneaks through to my Inbox, but most wind up where they should. It's just the increase in volume to that Junk folder that has me concerned.
Additionally, if a non-Junk message gets erroneously tagged, I no longer have the option I once had to set the message as "This is not Junk". That used to appear as a graphic and button at the top of the message. It seems like I no longer have that capability.
