Mail stopped working after replacing primary HD

Apple Mail stopped working after replacing and restoring the Main Hard Drive in the upper bay. Internet connection is good, and the Mail client troubleshooting (Comcast) was no help. I can start the App, but it does not retrieve or send mail through Comcast anymore. I have a MacBook Pro with the same settings and Mail works fine.

This is odd because my PowerMac G5 with Leopard Mail cannot receive or send email. Connection doctor is showing all red dots on every email account with Comcast (BTW, GMAIL accounts okay). On my Blackberry, and my MacBook Pro (Lion), the setting are all the same, passwords, etc., and the later two have no issues. I even created a test Administrator Account in "Accounts" in System Preferences on the G5, logged into the Test Account and tried to create a new mail account with the same settings, and yet during the set-up (Welcome to Mail), I get an error message that says Mail cannot log into Comcast's POP server with the current settings. I have also tried changing passwords, no help. Also the usual disk repair, permissions, motherboard resets, zapping PRAM, etc.
Out of ideas...

Mail stops working after a while

3G phone here set up to use Yahoo Mail. After awhile, it simply stops working. Even using the refresh button didn't do anything other than glowing for a sec and then nada, mail is not updated. Anyone else seen this problem? The only workaround I have found is to delete the yahoo mail account and re-add it. What a pain.

I think I may have a variation of this problem.
Unfortunately I can't confirm right now because apparently no iphones are getting email or web access unless they're on wifi...
I'll be 3g connected and either using email - my domain or web. without warning the access just goes away. Workarounds that have previously restored access -> disabling / enabling 3g. shut down & Restart the phone.
Short of those 2; possibly going to airplane mode & back, the access remains gone until recycling somehow.

Mail stops working after 10.9.3 upgrade

Hello -
After the 10.9.3 upgrade, Mail stopped retrieving new messages from my IMAP server. I can send e-mail from Mail without problem. I installed Airmail and it seems to work fine and I can also see the new e-mails by logging into the server via a browser or through gmail.
I've tried deleting the account and reinstalling it , shutting down and restarting the machine several times but both were without success.
Any ideas as to cause and resolution are much appreciated.

if the device I connected have caused this, shouldn't the macbook itself have some type of protection that should prevent this from happening.
because when I took it to an apple certified maintenance shop, the guy said that now it could only run while connected to the power. it won't run on batteries. and that I have to change the motherboard.
can I just replace the damaged part only, would apple consider this as a design issue and they could pay for it, or should I just buy a new motherboard for 800$.

The problem is in finding a tech shop that will/can do board level repairs on Macs. They are few. And I certainly wouldn't spend $800 on a new logic board - I would replace the computer if I had to pay that much!
You could call around to a few repair shops and see if they feel competent to isolate the problem and do a board level repair - but I'm afraid, in the end, that your search will be futile.

Right USB Port stops working after disconnecting device since 10.9.2

Hi,
Since updating to 10.9.2 the right USB port on my MBA stops working after diconnecting a device (tested: external hard drive, USB flash drive, USB HSPA Modem). The only way to get the port recognizing the device on that port is to do a restart. If the device is connected from starting the MBA it works fine, if I then eject the drive and reinsert it or a different USB device the device doesn't get recognized. The devices do get power, my WD passport ultra spins up just fine, the USB HSPA modem also indicates it's working (with signal) but nothing shows up in finder or diskutility. If the modem is connected from start (and thus working) and then disconnect from the internet but not remove the drive I can reconnect to the internet. The problem only occurs after disconnecting the device. The port becomes inactive. The left USB port works as expected.

The sleep issue sounds interesting- hum, maybe...
Is your keyboard plugged into one of the USB connections on an Apple monitor? If so, you may want to change that connection to one that is on the G5 itself. My monitor came with a warning note indicating that problems will likely occur if the keyboard is connected to the monitor.
I also had a problem with the automatic sleep function. After much trouble-shooting and a logic board replacement, it was concluded that coming out of the automatic sleep function with any USB device active would freeze the entire USB bus. After disabling automatic sleep in system preferences, I've had no freezing problems. My machine works fine with the manual sleep function in the Apple Menu.

To go along with Michael's suggestion, something like AA9.2 is needed for X64 systems I think. Also, be careful. Acrobat is not licensed for use on a server. Using it as a user is fine, but not as a server application. Read the license carefully.

Normally they don't. You might have some sort of problem on your system, possibly a conflict with other software, or corrupt ID prefs or application. Trashing the prefs is easy, and good place to start: Replace Your Preferences
It will help if you tell us the OS version, whther you've installed the 8.0.1 patch, and how you are trying to access the commands, and what happens when you do. Is this isolated to one file, or does it happen with all files?

Mail not working after installing osx 10.9.4

Immediately after intalling Mail stopped working - all mailboxes have an "!" in a triangle by them.
Unlike in the past, pressing the "fetch mail" envelope icon does nothing
Tried using the "combo" update as recommended here, but that only worked for a short period of time

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

Why does mail stop working when it has worked fine for years?

OK, thank you. I use apple for e-mail. I have an @me address and I have long subscribed to mobile me, which has recently become icloud. Yesterday the @me mail account appeared to stop recognizing my e-mail password for my primary mail account on my two imacs but not on my ipad. The most recent e-mail I have received on my imacs is 7:16am yesterday, but I know from my ipad that I have received numerous e-mails since then. I have other mail accounts, including one for the school where I teach. I am receiving e-mail on the school account ok.
I made no changes to my password or otherwise for my primary mail account any time recently. I also still have my @mac address.
Generally, I do not understand icloud. I do not understand how to sync information across computers.
When I go to preferences in mail and I click and accounts and account information, I do not understand anything that I see there. When I try to re-type my password, there seems to be no way to save it except to switch to another mail account. I know from past experience that if I attempt to fix whatever might be wrong with mail I do not know what I am doing.

Keyboard shortcut command-w stopped working after upgrading to OSX 10.9.4

after upgrading to OSX 10.9.4 the keyboard shortcut command-w stops working after about 30 min of having the machine powered on. Interestingly, this phenomenon is not restricted to a certain app (Safari, etc.).
In system preferences > keyboard all settings have been set to "default".
Anybody else having the same issue?

Hi folks,
just as quick documentation for possibly other error sources for the problem "shortcut command-w not working":
If problem persists close all applications (allL!). Then open one app like Safari, open several tabs and check whether command-w works.
Reason: it could happen that you've set command-w inadvertently in another app like Snagit. And when setting this the app did not tell you "listen dummy, this is a standard command, do you really want to replace a standard command with a app-specific command. Don't be surprised if it doesn't work when the app is running."
This is what happened to me. So close all apps and check whether problem persists.
