Mail stuck in "Mailbox Database ..." queue
Hi guys
In our organization we have an Exchange Server 2013 CU6 with both server roles CAS and Mailbox installed (absolutely fresh deployment). Users from AD have successfully been assigned mailboxes. The authoritative domain of the server is set correctly to our
local domain. The DNS MX record to the Exchange-host exists and works well (tested with nslookup and setting q=MX). For testing purposes all the receive connectors allow connections from anonymous users.
I've tried to send an SMTP mail via telnet connecting to CAS via port 25. The connection is established and the sender and receiver are accepted by the server but when I submit the message (line containing only a single a full stop) I get the error:
451 4.7.0 Temporary server error. Please try again later. PRX2
I have sent the same massage to the Transport Service on the Mailbox Server via port 2525 and the message was accepted, but it was not delivered to the mailbox of the recipient. Instead it just got stuck in a queue named "Mailbox Database ...".
Its status is "Ready".
I have restarted all possible services and rebooted the system but that did not help. Do you have any idea what could be the matter? Thank you!
Cheers Dimitri

Inbound emails from internet stuck in smtp database queue
I have 4 exchange servers
2 MBX and 2 CAS.
I am forwarding the smtp request from firewall to cas02 and using cas01 as stand by.
Email are working fine except some time when we look at the email queue emails get queued n smtp database. And it take very long time to route to user mailbox.
My mailbox in the DAG.
When I checked in the Active Directory DNS MX record pointing to cas01 and cas02Hi mswizard,
Thank you for your question.
How long time to route user mailbox?
When did the email get queued? The specific or random a period of time?
Email got queued comes from the specific domain or all external domain?
In order to troubleshooting, when the email gets queued, we could collect the following information to
[email protected]
The application logs on Exchange server ;
The System logs on Exchange server;
Message tracking logs on Hub server in the following path:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\TransportRoles\Logs\MessageTracking
4. SMTP logs on the Hub server in the following path:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\TransportRoles\Logs\ProtocolLog\SmtpReceive
There are some reasons which may cause email queued for long time to delivery:
Network issue
Make sure no loop in network and other network issues.
2. Exchange server performance
The Exchange server didn’t deal with many emails at the same time owing to performance, we could improve the performance of the Exchange server. We could use
performance monitor in EMC to check.
3. Anti-virus software
We could try to disable A/V to check if the problem that email is delivering to user mailbox persists for a long time.
If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.
Best Regard,
Jim -
Mailbox recipient does not have a mailbox database
For one of our customers we are currently working on a prove of concept to implement on premise exchange servers. The problem mentioned below takes place on test servers.
Server names and mail domain names are changed to generic values.
On our on premise exchange environment we encounter the following problems when emailing to a specific email domain .
Email to the domain companyname.com is placed in to the Unreachable Domain queue with the following error:
Last Error: The mailbox recipient does not have a mailbox database
Queue ID: SERVEREX01\Unreachable
Recipients: [email protected];2;3;The mailbox recipient does not have a mailbox database;1;<No Home Database>
Situation:
Customer uses a local Active Directory which contains all the user accounts and uses Office 365 / Exchange Online to provide these users with a mailbox. SSO between the local AD and O365 is provided by a third party identity provider.
Dirsync is used to sync all user information from the local AD to O365 AD. This also includes the SMTP addresses users have on the Office 365 mailbox. In the local AD this information is saved is the proxyaddress attribute field and synced
to O365. Office 365 uses the following mail domains for customer: companyname.com and companyname.onmicrosoft.com.
Customer wants to use local on premise exchange servers for specific locations and users and doesn’t want to implement a hybrid exchange environment. Therefore we installed an Exchange 2010 Edge server in the DMZ and an Exchange 2013 MBX
/ CAS server in the server network. The Exchange 2013 server is installed in the same Active Directory as the one mentioned above. This environment uses the mail domain @central.companyname.com. The email environment is configured to only accept email for
this domain.
The email environment works fine. It can send and receive email internally and externally. There is only one issue. It’s impossible to send email from the on premise environment to office 365. The other way around (O365 to on premise)
works fine.
When an email is send to a companyname.com email address the exchange 2013 mail server places the email in the Unreachable Domain queue and reports
the following error:
Last Error: The mailbox recipient does not have a mailbox database
Queue ID: SERVEREX01\Unreachable
Recipients: [email protected];2;3;The mailbox recipient does not have a mailbox database;1;<No Home Database>
This is caused by the fact that the @companyname.com email addresses are stored in the active directory exchange uses. We tried to fix this problem to create a internal and external relay domain with the appropriate send connector but
this didn’t help.
When we remove the proxyaddress attribute in the local active directory we are able to send email from the on premise exchange server to Office365. Removing the proxyaddresses is not a solution because these settings will be synced to
Office 365 and users can’t receive email anymore in there cloud mailbox.
It looks like the SMTP Categorizer first looks in active directory if the target email addresses is available. If so it will send the email to this users (but doesn’t have a mailbox server and mailbox database).
Can we configure a working mailflow for email from on premise to Office 365 for @companyname.com addresses?Hi,
Please try to set the target Address from the on premise AD account in ADSIedit to match the Cloud mailbox address, and then check the result.
In addition, I recommend you post this thread on office 365 forum:
http://community.office365.com/en-us/forums/default.aspx
Hope this helps!
Thanks.

Mails stuck in queue when Automatic Replies are enabled
We have a new Exchange 2013 server and moved a few pilot users from the 2010 environment to it.
Everything seems to work OK but we just encountered a strange issue. One of the users turned on his automatic out of office replies and when people send E-mail to his mailbox they receive a 'Delivery delayed' e-mail. All mails to this account seem to be
stuck in the queue (shown in the Exchange Toolbox – Queue viewer) but they DO actually arrive in his Outlook.
The error message in the queue for his messages is: Recipients: [email protected];3;3;[{LRT=};{LED=432 4.2.0 STOREDRV.Deliver; Agent transient failure during message resubmission[Agent: Mailbox Rules Agent]};{FQDN=};
After turning off his out of office replies, the queue emptied instantly, and no duplicate mails arrived in his mailbox. After turning it back on the queue started filling up again with new mails.
Other pilot users have the same issue.
Has anybody seen this issue before? I checked space on the drives and there seems to be no issue there (so no back pressure issue).
thanks! We opened a case with Microsoft support. It took a few weeks for them to find what was causing this issue. I will just copy/paste the summary they gave us.
Reason:
So the error was thrown by the Transport Service when we are trying to submit the mail.
We also compared the difference between earlier version and CU5 and found “XORIGFROM=[email protected]” is the difference, we started using XORIGFROM verb from CU5.
We did further analysis and found During SMTP Session, we check if the XOrigFrom argument is allowed according to EHLO, capabilities and permissions.
While checking this permission, we check if the session has permission to accept organization headers, and this is where we are failing.
# we checked the effective permission for "Mailservername" on Default receive connector and found that we had "deny" permission on: Accept Organization headers
# We also found that the security group "Exchangelegacyinterop" had deny permission for "accept organization headers" on the default receive connector
# We found that the Exchange server "Mailservername" was a member of "Exchangelegacyinterop"
# So we removed the "Exchangelegacyinterop" and added the "Mailservername"
# we gave "Allow" permission on "Accept organization headers"
# we restarted the MSExchange Transport service
# We sent an test email to the OOF enable mailbox
# we found that we got the OOF reply and also the email did not stuck in the queue
# Issue resolved -
In 'mail', after importing mailboxes the process gets stuck on '1619 of 72826' and 'time remaining' climbs infinitely. Please suggest a solution.
I converted my mail boxes from POP to imap for the purpose of syncing all my devices. I backed up my mail boxes and further more perfomed a timemachine backup.
Upon restoring ther mailboxes, either by manually copying them to the mailboxes folder, and restoring a timemachine backup, both pocesses result in the above problem.
Please recomend a solution.

Shared mailbox sent mail stuck in Outbox of user outlook.
User as full and send as permission to Shared mailbox, when user try to send as mail from shared mailbox mails get stuck in shared mailbox outbox.
Hi,
From your description, I recommend you run your Outlook in cached mode and click the Send/Receive to check whether the message can be sent. I have seen that this method works for some people.
Hope this can be helpful to you.

What to do with mail stuck in mail queue?
I think i have my web and e-mail server running fine, all mail from the users is coming and going as should. But I have to delete the mail queue every two days or so because it is filling up with junk mail to unknown senders and users. I think everting is setup correct and I do not have an open relay, but is there some way I can have it delete the junk mail in this queue by itself?
Most likely you have postfix configured to accept any mail. Being for known or unknown users. Thus, mail for unknown users (mostly spam) gets only bounced at a later stage (cyrus/IMAP), which in turn creates those pesky Mailer-Daemon messages in your queue.
Being spam, there is usually no proper return address, so those messages stay in your queue, until they expire after 5 days (default value).
See my tutorial on how to improve Postfix' configuration here: http://osx.topicdesk.com/content/view/38/62/ -
There is currently no route to the mailbox database.;2;MailboxDB;0
Hi,
I have multiple mailbox servers. We are receiving emails from Gmail, Yahoo, etc.
The issue is that some users from outside (their own domain) are sending emails and their emails are stuck in a queue named
Server\Unreachable
After trying it rejects the email and users are getting this error message.
#<#4.4.7 smtp;550 4.4.7 QUEUE.Expired; message expired in unreachable destination
queue. Reason: There is currently no route to the mailbox database.> #SMTP#<o:p></o:p>
Can any one please help us in this regard?
Regards,
AneesHi,
According to your description, I understand that some domain cannot send message and return an NDR “550 4.4.7 QUEUE.Expired; message expired in unreachable destination queue.”
If I misunderstand your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.
I want to double confirm whether all account or some special account contain this domain experience this question, how about internal and external mail flow?
If this issue only occur on some special recipient, it indicate that target domain may be configured to reject your message, I recommend to contact its administrator to change the setting.
Otherwise, please try to enable protocol log to get more details about this issue. More details about
Protocol logging, for your reference:

Migration from Exchange 2007 to 2013 gives error "Failed to communicate with the mailbox database'
I have been trying to migrate several databases from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. The migration started successfully, and many of the mailboxes moved successfully (about 70). The remaining mailboxes, failed. Looking deeper, we found a few issues; The
two 2013 Mailbox servers were on different versions. The Server had run out of disk space, and the NIC drivers needed to be updated.
Now when we try to migrate a mailbox that had failed in the earlier batch, we get the following error:

All of the issues listed above have been corrected, and all of the databases are mounted. Users are able to send and receive mail, but I can not migrate mail using the Migration Batch utility.
The destination server is a Hyper-V Guest running Server 2012, SP1, and Exchange 2013
The Source Server is Running Exchange 2007.
I have tried doing a test move to another destination server that is also Server 2012, and Exchange 2013, and the migration also failed.
I would appreciate any help you can give me!
Thanks,

Overview of the architecture
We have Site (Primary & DR)
2 Database copies in primary site and 1 Database on the DR site (Primary site 2 copies one mounted and second healthy & on the DR site one healthy copy of Database)
Recently Due to Network Problem the DR copy got in to the easyncronous state and was removed from the DAG.
As company does not want the downtime we have followed the below steps to Restore Database at DR site.
1)Stopped the backup to Not trucate the log file
2)Took Full backup and in the restore mode we shipped the full backup to the DR site.
3)As the above process needs 2 days, manually copied the some Logs to the DR site (IN some drive as much possible to reduce seed time)
4)Added the mailbox database of the DR site back in the DAG as its seeds from the start, we manually suspend the process post the Database folder hierrachy gets created
5)Added the EDB and logs files in the recently created folders
6)Resumed the Database seed, so only the remaining logs were copied and seeded from primary site to DR site, In some hours DR site databse became healhty with no copy queue and replay queue.
7)trucated the logs which synced using DAG
Now Dag has copies as initial setup but the since we followed the above process the primary site healthy copy is acting as the seed-source and logs not truncating for the database
When restarts the Replication services on the Primary site server with healthy the state becomes healthy but again after some time it becomes seed- source.
Wanted to know when DR site copy is in healthy state why its acting as a seed-source continueously
Need Experts advice in manage Database copies in healthy state...
Thanks in AdvanceHi,
Based on your description, sometimes the content index state of passive database copy in primary site is healthy, but sometimes the state is crawling.
You can use the following command to reseed the catalog only to check result.
Update-MailboxDatabaseCopy -Identity Database -SourceServer EX -CatalogOnly

Hi,
I have DAG enabled Exchange Server 2010 installed with three mailbox databases having sizes 282GB,162GB and 129GB respectively. I have started with a total of 250GB in 2010 and now it has reached a size more than 650GB.
It has become very difficult to take the backup of such huge database files now and restoring it in case of a DR.
Presently I have not enabled online archiving in any of these mailboxes mainly because most of the PCs are installed with outlook 2007 which doesn't show online archive.Of course OWA is another candidate to see those mails.
Please suggest a best practice to reduce the size of these mailbox databases without losing any of the mails.
Thanks
ThomasAs mentioned above, Exchange database files do not shrink.
If you do a defrag, then since you have copies of this DB in the DAG then you have to reseed. take a look at this

Exchange 2013 CU2 - Mailbox Databases and Active Sync - update when new item arrive
Hi,
Maybe it will be a silly question but I don't know what exactly is going on. We are running Ex2013CU2 Evironment (1 CAS, 2 MBX Servers with 4 Mailbox Databases).
User mailboxes are in MDB01 and they are allowed to connect to mail via activesync and everything is working great (I mean that auto notification on mobile when item arrive is working).
When we move user mailbox to another database ex. MDB02 -> "auto notification when item arrive" does not working, but manual synchronization is working great.
Does anyone have any idea why it is behaving like this or what should I check to fix this ?
Thanks.

Exchange 2010: Remove high available mailbox database error
Hello everyone,
I have a two node DAG exchange 2010 and recently split one mailbox database into two databases.
Now when removing the original database I get the following error:
Please provide specific details.
The following was done thus far:
Deleted all softdeleted items
this is not the default mailbox database
Suspended the second mail server and removed it from mailbox, leaving now just one mail server attached to the mailbox database.
HelpTry to check mailbox import request is there or no by this command. Get-MailboxImportRequest. If you can see any requests listed. Remove it by this command Get-MailboxImportRequest | Remove-MailboxImportRequest.
Thanks, MAS

Exchange 2010 - Moving mailbox database from exchange 2010 server to another exchange 2010 server
Hi,
I have a current existing exchange server running on 2008 R2. apparently the partition that holds the mailbox database is getting full and i need to move some user mailboxes to another environment ( exchange 2010 running on 2008 R2). i transferred some users
successfully to the new location, but am not able to transfer the rest. I am getting the errors:

Error:
The queue in 'MBX2010_STAFF' database already contains a move request for 'Erastus XXXXX', while AD reports the mailbox as not being moved. It is possible that someone created this move request recently, while targeting a different domain controller, and AD
replication did not yet occur. You can examine this move request by running 'Get-MoveRequestStatistics -MoveRequestQueue 'MBX2010_STAFF' -MailboxGuid f8023bc7-9d65-4194-9f6b-10e4780558b5 -IncludeReport | fl'. If you believe this to be an abandoned move request,
you can remove it by running 'Remove-MoveRequest -MoveRequestQueue 'MBX2010_STAFF' -MailboxGuid f8023bc7-9d65-4194-9f6b-10e4780558b5'.

I have all the proper rights.
YOUR ASSISTANCE WILL BE HIGHLY APPRECIATED. THANX :)0x80070005 is pretty standard access denied entries. I would start digging into ACLs on a handful
of mailboxes.
Is there another Admin that can give it a shot to test their permissions vs yours?
