Mail suddenly won't access 1 of 3 Gmail accounts

A year ago I set up Mail to get mail from three Gmail accounts (two for work, one for friends). Everything was working fine until today. Today Mail won't access one of the accounts. They've all got the same Incoming and Outgoing settings, the same Port number -- everything is the same. Even the passwords are the same. Nothing has changed at all. I tried logging into all 3 accounts through Gmail with no problems. Apple Mail seems to think my password has changed, but it has not.
I tried restarting, I tried Repairing Permissions, I tried all the usual maintenance stuff, but it still won't work on this one account.
Anyone have any idea how I can get Mail to access my Gmail again? It's totally bizarre that it's picked this one of triplet accounts to decide it can no longer access.

Same with me here...
Hey, come on, i can't connect so any more of my Gmail accounts using mail 3.6 (+ the 10.5.7 update too), my University mail account works (configured having a mail.any_university.com server).
Hey apple guys, this can't be...!???!
Maybe you should concentrate a little more on things your computer users need than on making a new iphone that is smaller than a walnut.
I wanna be able to check my mails again !

  • How come I can't access Facebook with my gmail account?

Along with a couple other sites, I can't access Facebook with my gmail account. I'm on a mac, and even if I use different browsers (safari and google chrome), the page never opens. It consistently says "the connection was interrupted." I've tried everything, including allowing all cookies, deleting cookies, changing firewall settings, etc. However, it's not a problem on my Parallels (on the same computer). The weird thing is my friends with hotmail or yahoo facebook accounts can access the site. Help!

  • Why has my iPad downloaded over 7000 spam messages into a folder called gmail/all mail?  I have not set up a gmail account on my iPad

Why has my iPad downloaded over 7000 spam messages into a folder called gmail/all mail?  I have not set up a gmail account on my iPad

No you will not have to set up the iPad all over again. Resetting the iPad is like rebooting your computer. You will lose no apps, data, settings .... Nothing at all. I like to use the expression that it's like "clearing out the cobwebs" on the iPad's memory.
The reason I am suggesting this is that there are some other sort of bizarre issues that occur in the mail app and the reset seems to clear up those issues. So I think it is worth a try.
On the other hand, if you have restored the iPad to factory settings, I don't know that it will help. If nothing else works, try going to your web mail using a browser and see if you can't deal with this in there.

  • Outgoing mail suddenly won't send

For years I've had a POP account, using Mac Mail to send and rec ATT/Yahoo mail. In the past week or so, my account has decided it won't send anything and says the server can't be accessed. However, incoming mail works fine, and my wife's POP account on another log-in with ATT/Yahoo mail also works fine sending and receiving. I tried deleting my account and starting over, which allowed me to send one email successfully. Next time I logged in, though, it was back to balking. Any ideas?

Hey, I found a fix for Mac who use ATT / UVerse / Yahoo!!
The directions that are given by ATT are only good for setting up an ATT e-mail account on a Mac. If for some reason you need to use another provider (gasp!) their settings will NOT work. The workaround is to have an agent open up port 25 so that you can use another outgoing smtp server. In my case, my provider is fatcow.com (really!). So once port 25 was opened up I could add smtp.fatcow.com as an outgoing mail server. In that case, they do require password authentication. Your case may be simpler and you may not need authentication at all (Inisight, WOW, RoadRunner etc.)
So it is possble, despite the dearth of information on ATT's UVerse web site. : P
    Cheers,
    : )

  • Mail suddenly won't connect to gMail IMAP servers after network crash

After the network in our building went down yesterday, Apple Mail refuses to connect to Google's IMAP servers. I am guessing this is some sort of weird config problem. Is there a way to hit the reset button without dumping my prefs and loosing my current mail setup?

  • Mail in Yosemite won't let me add one Gmail account but does another

After upgrading to Yosemite, m girlfriend is trying to add her Gmail to the Mail app but when she fills in the credentials, it just resets back to the same credential screen. Her Hotmail worked and so did an attempt to add my Gmail account. Does this have something to do with her account? Or could it be that she has her Gmail set up on a different Mac machine? Please help!

Did you ever figure this out? I opened a thread with a similar question: https://discussions.apple.com/activity?streamSource=connections
The one suggestion I got didn't work for me, so I'm hoping that you figured it out and you could tell me about it...

  • Mavericks mail will not allow me to add a gmail account

    Help!
I am using running OSX Mavericks, including the new version of Mail 7.0 (1822). I cannot add a GMail account. Going through Mail: Preferences: Accounts, I give the information, but then get told:
There was a problem setting up the account.
Unable to verify account name or password.
If I click ok (the only option), Mail quits, so I cannot use the Connection Doctor to see what else is happening.
All my other programs that access the internet work, and I can access google calendar, for example, via BusyCal.
There must be something simple happening.... By the way, Mavericks Mail works perfectly on my machine at work!
    Suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!
    Roger

I had the same issue...I called apple support and they gave me the following instructions. Seems to be working perfectly fine.
    - Go to Apple Mail
    - Hit on Preferences, go to Accounts and hit the "+" button
    - Select "Add other mail account", and hit continue
    - Enter your Full Name, email address, and password (DO NOT HIT CREATE)
    - Push down the option key, and while holding down the option key hit "NEXT"
    - It will route you to the Incoming Mail Server Info window, here you will type in the Mail Server as: imap.gmail.com. Again type in your user name (complete email) and password. And again, hold down the option key, and while holding down the option key hit "NEXT".
    - Then it wil route you to the Outgoing Mail Server. Type in the Outgoing Mail Server as: smtp.gmail.com, and again your email and password.
    -Hit Create
Once you see the email account on your Apple Mail sidebar, go to compose a new message and send yourself an email to the new email account from your new email account
This worked for me and synced all my folders. Hope it works for you as well.

  • Won't let me make a Gmail account

So I just got an iPad and went to set up Mail on it.
I click Mail, then Gmail, then entered my information. It keeps saying "cannot get mail. the user name or password for 'imap.gmail.com' is incorrect."
but it's definitely not. I could set up my hotmail accoutn just fine, but my main account which is the gmail one won't set up, even though I'm certain I'm typing in the right email address and password. HELP!

Here is a link o Google's instruction. Especially notethe first one regarding ensure that IMAP is enabled in the Gmail setting on the Web.

  • I haven't gotten any incoming mail in the past 3 days from my gmail account which worked fine previously. What settings should I check?

I suspect my settings for Mail are incorrect and are causing my iPad 2 not to receive new mail from my gmail account. I have experimented with various settings and at this point Mail is non functional; no incoming or outgoing. I'm using WiFi not a data plan. Can someone please tell me what my settings should be to correct my problem?

If you tinkered with the actual settings for gmail in the mail app, you may have done more damage than good. Sometimes it's best to delete the account and start over again, rather than try to adjust settings that worked previously.
Before you delete the account and start over (if you are consodereing that) try force closing mail, reset your iPad and try mail again.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Next, reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Mail suddenly won't open at all

I clicked on the stammp icon for my mac mail about 3 days ago and it won't open at all. No matter how often you click, it does nothing. If I access it through the web, it works on the web, but not straight from the icon. My ical program quit opening the same day. Any ideas about how to fix this?
    Thanks!

In the Finder, go to /Applications/. Can you see Mail there? Try to open it by double-clicking on it.
Verify/repair your disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
Now, take a look at the following article, in case this is a font issue:
Font Management in Mac OS X Tiger and Panther
You may also want to read the following article:
Multiple applications quit unexpectedly or fail to launch
If the above doesn't work, proceed as follows to try to identify the problem:
    1. Open /Applications/Utilities/Console.
    2. From the File menu, choose either Open Console Log, or Open System Log, or both, so that the Console application displays the contents of both system.log and console.log.
    3. In the Finder, go to /Applications/, and try to open Mail by double-clicking on it. Look at the bottom of the Console windows for messages that might be written there as a result. They may provide some clues as to what the problem is.

  • ICloud Mail suddenly won't connect

Gmail works fine on same computer--no change.
iCloud works fine on all other computers.
I did not enter/change any settings.
But for 3 days I repeatedly get this message despite quitting Mail and rebooting MacBook Pro.
    Any ideas?
    (see screen shot)

I'm not sure if this is what fixed it, but I found this section of the link (see below).
Originally my settings seemed perfect (exactly matching my other computer which was having no problems), but out of desperation I tried de-selecting SSL as suggested in the error message above. This changed the port to 143 automatically. Still not working, I re-selected the SSL, but the port stayed 143 and then resulted in a different error message about that port. I then manually changed it to 993 but it didn't seem to take the new setting until I quit and restarted Mail. Then suddenly Mail started working again. Yay!
If you can't receive mail in OS X Mail
Locate the name of your iCloud account on the left side of the main Mail window. If your iCloud account name is dimmed and has a lightning-bolt symbol next to it, your account is offline. To bring your account online, make sure that your computer is connected to the Internet, then choose Mailbox > Take All Accounts Online. If that doesn't resolve the issue, follow these steps:
Choose Preferences from the Mail menu.
Click Accounts in the Preferences window.
Select your iCloud account from the list of accounts.
Click the Advanced tab and verify these settings:
    Port: 993
    Use SSL: (selected)
Authentication: either "Password" or "Apple Token"

  • Mail suddenly won't accept password.

After well over a year of flawless performance, Mail (1.3.11) out of the blue started rejecting the password we've been using. No way I can get it to authenticate with rebootings, etc.
I created a second account with the same settings in case that initial account info got corrupted. Didn't work.
Email still works fine, and password accepted as usual, when we go to our mail provider's IMAP site.
    Help would be greatly appreciated.
    G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   On iBook 14"
    G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Open /Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access, then Window > Keychain First Aid, and proceed to repair the keychain. If that doesn’t work, you may try removing the password entry from the keychain and letting Mail create it again the next time it asks for it.
Note, however, that Mail often doesn’t correctly report what the problem really is. If Mail can connect to the server but cannot log into your mail account for some reason, it’ll ask for your password, regardless of whether that’s really the problem or not. Don’t keep entering the password every time, because that’s not the problem (click Cancel instead, and take the account back online afterwards).
Some ISPs refuse connection attempts if they are too frequent, for example, or limit the number of simultaneous connections that are allowed from the same IP address, or the account may have become full, or there might be a problem with the network, or there might be a problem with the server... If the latter (i.e. if there is a problem with the network or the server), the problem will probably fix itself after some time for no apparent reason.
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.
What’s the time interval chosen in Mail > Preferences > General > Check for New Mail? If it’s set to Every minute, try changing it to Every 5 minutes.
Also, try using a different method to connect to Internet, if possible, or connecting the computer to Internet as directly as possible, i.e. bypassing any routers that might be present, using an ethernet cable instead of wireless, etc., and see whether that makes a difference.
You may also want to check with the provider of this account in case they’ve made some changes recently that could have a bearing on this.

  • IBook G4 with OSX10.5.8 suddenly won't access Facebook.

In the past several days, my ability to access Facebook has failed. The response is always to the effect that FB unexpectedly dropped the connection while trying to connect. I normally go to FB from messages received in my Yahoo mailbox. I have even tried accessing FB by typing their URL directly.
I used a Microsoft computer today and FB loaded just right, no change in operation.
I see others have had problems with FB using Apple computers. Mine is an iBook G4 with OSX 10.5.8, totally up to date.
    My ISP is Qwest.
Several people have mentioned some kind of app available from the store? That seems to relate to iPads and iPhones.
Can anyone help? I have been assisted wonderfully in the past on here and hope so again.
    Thanks.

    Hello douginrrnm,
which Adobe Flash Player do you use? I don't use
flash player nor Facebook yet can understand why
many people like them. The current flash player is at
v10.3. The max a PowerPC Mac can use is v10.1.
v10.2 and v10.3 require an intel Mac.
If you do not have v10.1 here is a link to Adobe
so that you can uninstall your current version and
    install the archived v10.1.

Remember to use disk utilities to verify disc and
to repair permissions before and after each
    uninstall/install.
If you already have v10.1 hope someone else can help.
    Good Luck,

  • E-mail suddenly won't send.  I've been using this account on this iMac for years.

When I try to send, I get an error message that it can't send mail on this server.  I've checked all my settings and rebuilt the mailbox.  The settings are the same as on my iPhone, and the phone has no problem sending.  I can also send using my account directly on the ISP web site, so my mail account is working and the passwords are correct. When I use the Connection Doctor, it says it has no problem making connections (all green lights.)  Any ideas?
