Mail synch

When I read and/or dispose of an email on one device it continues to appear as unread in others,.  Devices in question are iMac, MacBook Air, iPad mini and iPhone

What type of email account do you have (POP or IMAP) and who is the email provider, for example Verizon.

  • Mail synch with Outlook 2007 vs. Server

Hey there, I'd like to sort out an issue I'm having with the eMail sync process between Outlook and my iPhone. I hope I'll be able to get this across ...
I like to use my PC as my primary eMail machine, at the same time being able to synch my emails to the iPhone. What I don't like to see is my iPhone synching eMail directly with my eMail Server.
I have connected the iPhone to the PC, using iTunes and I am synching contacts, calender and email through iTunes to the iPhone. However, it seems my iPhone is synching directly with my eMail Server (which sits at my ISP) rather than with my PC. Is there any way to stop this and to make sure the iPhone will synch eMail only with the PC not with the sever?
    Configuration is:
    PC with Vista, Outlook 2007
    iPhone 1.1.4
    Thx !

There is no syncing of actual mail files through iTunes. The settings in iTunes for mail are to configure the Mail accounts on the phone.
The Mail application is a mail client just as you would find on a computer. When you configure the mail account settings, the iPhone accesses your mail servers and retrieves/sends mail.

  • Mail synching never ends

    Hi,
When I connect my iPhone 3G, the synching process in iTunes 8.02 gets stuck on Synching Mail Accounts - and never ends. I even let the synching run all night, but the process was still going in the morning.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks.

Perhaps the difference is that the account you currently use is not an IMAP account but a POP account, and it is not configured to save messages on the server after retrieval. MobileMe and AOL mail are IMAP mail accounts.
If your present email provider supports IMAP, then change your mail account to use IMAP instead of POP. This will make it easy to keep both computers consistent with email.

  • Mail Synching Issues

I've been using a desktop mac and just added an iBook to the mix, and am having a bit of a problem with synching across the two machines and .Mac. When I delete something off the desktop machine, the email switches to gray but does not go away. On the iBook that same email is deleted. And, on the .mac (using Safari) the mail is still there. If I then delete it off of .mac, it then deletes from my desktop machine. One other thing is that the "delete" button on the desktop mail interface changes to "undelete," which makes me think this is some sort of settings issue. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    iBook, G5 Desktop   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

You're right. For some reason my origninal settings had changed and I wasn't phrasing the question properly in my help search. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
Here's the answer if anyone stumbles across this with the same issue:
    1. Choose Mail > Preferences and click Accounts.
    2. Select an account, then click Mailbox Behaviors.
    3. In the bottom pop-up menu, choose how often deleted messages should be permanently erased.

  • E71 Yahoo Mail Synching

I am having problems with my E71 mail client synching to my Yahoo Mail account (I have the "pay" version of Yahoo Mail). It keeps giving me a bunch of stuff that I have deleted in yahoo, and in fact keeps shoing it as new messages, even when I change them to "Read" on the phone. I need to either fix the synch problem or delete the Yahoo access from the phone. Either is fine, given that there are plenty of other ways to get to Yahoo Mail without the Nokia client.
    Thanks!

I'm having the same problem on my curve (yahoo and gmail not working).  Was on the phone with a rep for about 30 minutes last night and she did an update.  An hour later I had the same problem.  This morning it took about 2 hours for the yahoo mail to sync.  Got a call back tonight and they've done something because the deleted emails came off the handheld.  But looks like its off again.

  • Icloud mail synching with other persons mail

Recently set icloud to synch mail and cal on my i-phone4 - working well but I am getting another persons mail - (same name / surname as me) - any ideas how to fix?

    Hi all -
I'm happy to report the resolution of this problem, at least for me.  This may not cover problems others were having.
In my case, I am using an AppleID I set up a long time ago, before I had an Apple email account, so my AppleID is an email address on the yahoo.com domain.  (Note, I have also configured my @me.com address as an alternate AppleID.)
When setting up my @me.com email on Apple devices (iPhone, iPad), it had no problem with this, even after changing passwords.  But, from Outlook 2010 and W8 Mail it does.  In my case, after changing the password, the incoming mail server (imap.mail.me.com) would connect just fine with my non-Apple email AppleID and new password.  However, Apple has configured their outgoing mail server (smtp.mail.me.com) to only accept sends from a @me.com or @icloud.com address.  So, when I used my alternate AppleID with the @me.com address to login separately to the smtp server, it works fine.
    Hope this helps others.

  • Mail synch between iPhone iPad Mini using IMAP

This is a complex questions, so please bear with me.
    Setup
I use Mac Mini desktop, iPhone and iPad. All less than 18 months old.
    Mail is setup for IMAP
My mail is picked up from my ISP's server.
I use SpamSieve for spam, which puts spam in the spam folder "On My Mac"
    On my iPhone settings are:
         Advanced Settings for Mail,
              Draft Mailbox > Drafts
Sent Mailbox > Sent Messages > on server
Incoming Settings: IMAP Pathe Prefix INBOX
    Issues/Questions
Mail incoming shows up on all the devices, but when I send mail from iPhone or iPad, it doesn’t show up in sent folder in desktop
When I try and delete mail from the trash, I often get the message: "can't delete mail xxxx file is missing."
My list of accounts on the left pane have folders from my server, such as ".mailboxlist, .openwebmail, which I would like to see disappear.
The On My Mac section on the left has 12 folders like: "Sent Messages (sender accountname)"  I don't know where these came from, but nothing is more current than July.
I really do not grok the logic of how these settings should be handled for multiple devices and I haven't seen any comprehensive explanations on the net.
Mail seems to not pick up mail for extended periods sometimes and I have to close and restart for it to do so. The refresh mail button doesn't work until I do so.
I am too often rebuilding mailboxes, which seems to help.
Any help, explanations, suggestions would be appreciated by me and probably thousands of others.
    Thanks.

Apparently you must be very narrow minded. I don't want to develop an e-mail client from the scratch.
I would implement the sync the following way.
Assuming I use POP3 on both my iPhone and my MacBook. On my iPhone mail client I am downloading e-mails and reading them from time to time and replying. There is an ended set of what you actions you can do with your e-mails. Every e-mail has a unique ID / fingerprint - you can recognize it with 100% accuracy. I'm also downloading e-mails on my MacBook mac mail and performe the same ended set of actions on this e-mails. So the system architecture should be as follows:
    1. MacBook mail client queues all the actions I have performed with my e-mails on my MacBook.
    2. iPhone mail client does the same - creates a queues with actions I have performed on my iPhone.
    3. If I have the syncing turned on on both of my devices and I'm logged in on both of them with the same Apple ID both devices process the queues to my iCloud, compare it and update status of my e-mails according to the actions in each queue.
So I will rather wait until Apple will do this simple solution.

  • E-mail synch, read/unread, how can I set this up?

I'd like to refer to an older question I found which hadn't been answered properly.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3557308?start=0&tstart=0
    Quite simply, the question is;
I have my work e-mail, my Hotmail and my Gmail all set-up on my iPhone 4S and my iPad 1st gen.
When I read an e-mail on the computer via browser or outlook, I would like for this e-mail to appear as READ on my devices as well.
Vise versa for when I read it on the iPad/Phone and I want that e-mail to show as read on Outlook and browser.
Because this doesn't happen automatically, the Mail icon on my home screen is constantly showing over 1K e-mails, when in reality I may have like 10 on each e-mail account.
How can I set this up?
Is it possible for my to set this up for deleting e-mails also?
I know I can do that on Gmail, delete from server blah blah, but how about when I delete e-mail from Outlook...I want them to be off my phone also.
It's a business e-mail, and I get like over 50 read/received notifications that spam my inbox.
Thank you for taking the time to read and for any advice you may have.

    Please go to
    1.Setting
    2. mail,contacts and calenders
    3. add accounts
    4. insert your email account and password
    5. Autometically imports your mails if you open mail folder on the desktop..
    That is it.

  • Problem with Notes from Mail synching to Iphone, Ipad

I use Mobile Me. Notes are correctly synching from iphone  to MAC..
but NOT synching from MAC to Iphone and Ipad..
THey used to work until a few weeks ago
    Thanks

That's just a difference in how Outlook interprets email characters from the Mac. You shouldn't rely on using tabs for spacing, since you can never be sure if any of the text will align correctly in the recipient's email program. A better option is to use a monospaced font and plain text formatting.

  • Help with G-mail synch...

I recently just got a new i-phone 4 3g and the guy at the Verizon store set up my mail for me. He said it was working fine, but when i took it home it had pulled old emails from 2010. I deleted all of those emails from my i-phone (I think they were pulling from folders where I save emails) but now no new emails are coming through.
    Thanks for any help!

    Alvis, welcome to the Forum.
I find that Mail's inbuilt spam filter not quite effective enough in dealing with the cunning ways spammers adopt to get their message to you. That being the case, I tried SpamSieve. What I like about it is the way it learns from the kind of mail you recieve what's good and what's not, and simply puts spam straight into its own folder where you can delete it. It does slow down the receiving process slightly but then it is checking each message word by word before it makes a decision.

  • E-Mail synch issues

    Hi All,
I have recently added my office Comcast e-mail account to my iPhone 5.  Everything seems to be working fine except for one issue -  When I open an e-mail on my phone, it is still showing as unread in my Outlook inbox; and vica versa.  I've done this with other e-mails and work accounts and never had a problem.  It is possible this answer appears someplace on this forum and and I just not using the right terminology and am having trouble finding an answer.  Thanks for your assistance.

    Looking for iWork.com public beta?
With a new way to share iWork documents between your devices using iCloud, the iWork.com public beta service will no longer be available. As of July 31, 2012, you will no longer be able to access your documents on the iWork.com site or view them on the web.
We recommend that you sign in to iWork.com before July 31, 2012, and download all your documents to your computer. For detailed instructions on how to save a copy of your documents on your computer, read this support article at Apple.com.

Try doing some reading for yourself, iWork is not going away, it is iWork.com that is going away and it is being replaced by iCloud.

    Could you explain how to
    A. Save a document using, say, numbers, on Dropbox instead of iCloud?
You can't do that, but that isn't any different from any other type of document (with the exception of photos) with dropbox on an iOS device, that's a limitation of the dropbox app, not of iCloud. That's not the same as iWork not working with dropbox which is what you stated originally.

    B. access this document for editing via a pc? Remember the outlook add in does not have the documents option. You can only sync emails, contacts, bookmarks (if you've installed safari), calendar and photo stream.
Download it from iCloud.com and start editing it.

  • Can iPOD touch mail synch with Entourage on my Mac?

Just got a Touch. Before I mess things up with email, what are the recommendations for users? I would assume Apple Mail is the most streamlined but I use Entourage on my Mac Book. Advice?

iTunes 11 for Mac: Sync contacts, calendars, and other info with iPod, iPhone, or iPad

If you use OS X Mavericks v.10.9 or later, your contacts, calendars, and other info are updated on your computers and iOS devices via iCloud. For more information, see iCloud Help at icloud.com.

  • Entourage Mail synch

Anyone figure out how to sync your Entourage mail with iPhone? iTunes sees Entourage as my calendar but it does not see it as a mail sync?
I manually set up my mail in iPhone and it is working but iTunes still doesn't see it to sync with my computer.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Robert

After you sync with Address Book, and you uncheck the Sync in Entourage, they will not be deleted from Address Book.
For email, open Apple Mail, File Menu, Import Mailboxes..., then choose Entourage.
Or you can drag each folder from Entourage onto your drive, which makes a ".mbox" file which is compatible with many different mail programs. You can import those into Apple Mail (or into Thunderbird, or into Outlook Express, etc.).
You can also use a Gmail account, using IMAP (not POP), and drag'n'drop the emails from Entourage into that, then connect to it from Apple Mail and have them back.
Killing off Entourage is harder. Assuming you don't want to uninstall Office, you'll at least need to go to System Prefs, Accounts, and delete the Login Item for the Microsoft Database. I'm not sure what other steps may be necessary.

  • VZ Contact Transfer will not work on Wi-Fi; Synch with iTunes sets up mail

VZ Contact Transfer goes into a loop with Verizon iPhone connected to your Wi-Fi and does not work.
Your wi-fi network will come up right after registering VZ iPhone. You could wait until later to allow it to connect.
Otherwise, disconnect router to force iPhone onto Verizon 3G network and proceed. If you click the change phone number button, it will get you a new access code to your old Verizon contacts from Verizon back up. (Back up before signing up on iPhone)
Took me hours of fooling around to learn this on another bulletin board.
Also after hours of fooling around to set up mail, synched iPhone thru iTunes to mail, calendar, etc and the email accounts set themselves up.
Hope this saves you some time
    Enjoy!

I don't have an answer for you but from my experience iOS WiFi syncing has always been a hit and miss affair (more miss than hit I'm afraid). I have gotten to the stage where I rarely use the WiFi sync. It is just quicker, easier and much less stressful to use the USB cable. I am having the same issues with all the iOS devices in our family which includes various models of iPhone, iPad and an iPod Touch and have been having them since WiFi syncing was introduced (in iOS5 ???). And then I have not even mentioned my favorite iTunes syncing messages: "Waiting for items to copy" and "Waiting for changes to be applied"!
iTunes is always extremely quick and eager to pick up the devices but as soon as I click on sync it shows "Looking for iDevice" and then the device disappears. I have found that initiating the sync from the Settings app on the device prevents this issue.
It does however seem as if it is worse with Windows 7. I did not have so many issues with my previous Windows Vista PC.
Sorry I cannot be of any help.

  • Issues since I moved from MobleMe to iCloud; e.g. synch with Apple TV, sending photos on e-mail, etc.

I have an Apple TV, an iPhone, a MacBook, a mini iPad and aTime Machine. I use my Time Machine as a wireless router. Since I switched from MobleMe to ICloud, I have had all kinds of issues. Example: things don't always synch. Have not been able to see recent photos I downloaded from iPhone and a digital camera on my Apple TV.
I have trouble sending i-photos to e-mail, synching with Apple TV, or moving photos to Flicker. When I send photos via eMail it still shows my address as <MobleMe [email protected]>. Then I troubleshooted. I thought I fixed it by fully migrating to iCloud, as it gave me message that it still allowed me to move photos to iCloud, even though MobleMe was no longer functional. But, it did it again when I tried to send iPhotos. It showed my address in the e-mail sender field as MobleMe <[email protected]>, but it still gave me same error message that I could not send it. There is a drop down in the field, but there are no other options, not can I change it. How do I get rid of the MobleMe before my e-mail @mac.com address?

The problem is with your router, so the Apple supprot forum can not really help.  If they are connecting to the same router it should not matter if you use WiFi or eithernet it is the same network either way.
