Mail - syncing from my iBook to my iMac

I am looking to sync my Mail program from my iBook to my iMac. I have been doing it manually for the last few weeks, but I just realized that I have only been getting my incoming messages. I was looking to sync my sent messages too. I want to stop doing a manual sync and have it all automated. How can I do this? I want to sync my 2 accounts; Inbox, Sent Mail, Junk. Is there an easy way to do this?
p.s. I do not have a .Mac e-mail. My roommate tells me that having one would help. puh...

I may be dragging in this subtopic by the ears, but that may beat adding yet another closely-related topic...
Yes, IMAP enables me to consult the mail messages I maintain on-line, wherever I may roam. But I often need to consult an unpredictable set of older messages that I don't want to clutter up my iDisk with. So, I'd like to maintain the same (sizable) database of "On My Mac" mail messages on my desktop (at home) and on my laptop (everywhere). Can anybody tell me whether the following violates some logical constraint I haven't yet understood?
On my desktop (Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5, running OS 10.5.1), the [user]>Library>Mail>Mailboxes folder contains a big (1.11 GB) folder named "Organize," which is the name I've given to the top-level folder(/mailbox?) within which all my off-line messages reside, appearing in the left-column menu in Mail's Message Viewer. Everything else in [user]>Library>Mail>Mailboxes shows in the finder as ".mbox," but the Organize folder seems to be just a folder, without one of those silly MS-DOS-style extensions we've had imposed on us, of late.
I propose to copy the "Organize" folder to the parallel location in my laptop (MacBook Pro 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, also on OS 10.5.1) and then to keep the two folders in sync with my trusty Qdea Synchronize! X Plus Version 1.2.
Topher Kessler's reply suggests that this might work, but I've had a fair amount of grief when I've tried to mess around with the data structures in Mail under OS X. Am I asking for trouble? Is there anything in the content of a message file stored On My Mac that depends on the specific machine it was originally stored on? So that, for example it might become confused upon transfer to another machine...
The whole point, of course, is to be able to go back to old mail messages while on the road. I seem able to keep other kinds of archives with me, but Mail's been scary...

  • I'm seeing the books I deleted from my iBooks application on iMac while syncing my iPhone in iTunes. How do I delete the books permanently from my computer?

I have hundreds of ebooks in my iMac. I'm planning to clean the app by deleting all the books but even after deleting, I'm seeing the books when I'm syncing my iPhone in the books tab). How do I get rid of them?

    Hi tiaragold34,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you have books in iBooks on multiple devices and want to delete them from your Mac and possibly all devices. These two articles should help, the first will walk you through deleting books from your Mac and the second will help ensure changes are synced across devices.
iBooks for Mac: Organize your books
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14763
    Delete books from your Mac:
Select the book, then press Delete. At any time you can redownload purchased books from the iBooks Store.
iBooks: Tips for managing your iBooks library and storage on iOS devices
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5544
There are several ways you can manage your iBooks library between iOS devices:
If you want all of your books organized in the same way on all of your iOS devices, go to the iBooks panel in Settings, and set Sync Collections to ON.
If you prefer to manage your books and library organization separately between your iOS devices, go to the iBooks panel in Settings, and set Sync Collections to OFF.
    Cheers!

  • Transferring Mail/iPhoto FROM External Hard Drive to iMac

Pretty new to our Mac but loving it. Also have never posted anything anywhere so hope I'm doing this correctly. ;/
We are trying to transfer our Mail and iPhoto programs FROM a new WD external HD back to our iMac. (We had to reformat it.) It were able to transfer our Documents but we can't access our saved Mail program or iPhotos.
When we click on the Mail icon we get the recent Mail program (not the one we saved). Same with iPhoto. We also tried to "Import Mailbox" from File menu (Mail program) but the Mail option can't be highlighted.
Feeling pretty dejected. Sure would appreciate some help. Thank you in advance.

what exactly did you back up to that WD external and how? I hope you are not trying to move back the actual applications that were sitting in your Applications folder. that would be the wrong thing to do.
Mail keeps its data in user-home-directory/Library/Mail an iphoto in user-home-directory/Pictures/iphoto library. did you back up those? quit mail and iphoto and move those from the backup to the corresponding locations on the internal drive. do the same with the files com.apple.iphoto.plist and com.apple.mail.plist from user-home-directory/Library/Preferences
when you start iphoto and mail they should be as they were when you made the backup.

  • Importing iTunes Library from Older iBook to New iMac

My old iBook (700 MHz G3) had a severe hard drive failure, but I did manage to transfer via firewire the entire MUSIC folder and the entire PICTURES folder, as well other data I needed.
The question remains: How do I import the iTunes Library from the older iBook into the new iMac iTunes Library? As far as I can tell, I have to do it song by song. That can't be right.
    Any ideas?

If you copied your entire itunes folder from your old mac you can copy it to your new mac. The key is the library (xml) file.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93732
You need the library (xml) file also. When you open iTunes you might have to tell it where the xml file is.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304447
I used the same process to transfer the music library from my old mac to my new one.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to transfer mail messages from macbook pro to an iMac

i cannot get my messages from a macbook pro to an imac.

There is a bug when doing “export mailbox” and import mailbox functionality.
    Workaround:
      > Open Finder and under the “Go” menu, hold down the option key.  The “Library” sub-menu will show up.
      > Copy the entire “Library > Mail” folder to a USB disk (it will not work if copying to a shared drive for some reason)
      > Take the USB disk to the new computer and do an “Import Mailbox” and select the copied Data file.  There will be LOTS of folders that come up for import, you can browse through and deselect what you don’t need (e.g. trash or junk mail), OR just import everything and then clean up from your mailbox.
      > The imported folders will show up in mail under the “On My Mac” area.

  • Not purchased PDFs not syncing from mac ibooks to iPhone ibboks

    Hi,
I have Macbook Air with Recently updated mavericks OSX. I have lots of PDF files on my mac (usually e-tickets of airlines) which i drag and drop to ibooks for mac. Now they are not syncing to ibooks for my iphone 5, iOS 7.0.3. The ibooks icloud syncing is ON for both the devices but i am not able to sync such PDFs to and from from and to mac and iphone. Please help.
    Regards,
    Vikas

I tried that. It does not work for me. I get a few books to appear from iTunes into iBooks. Getting them into iBooks on the Mac has never been the problem There are lots of way to do that. The problem is, they STILL not not sync with my iPad. And now they are gone from iTunes so i am not sure what is going to happen the next time I try to sync the iPad with iTunes. Luckily I have a Time Capsule backup so I can restore if I have to.
I guess the bottom line, based on several other threads, is the only solution is to kill iBooks, move it to an obscure corner of your Launch Pad (since you can't totally delete it) and go buy an third party app that will work. Apple has release several updates to Mavericks, and so far there is nothing on the horizon about restoring any of the sync ability that Mavericks took away - iTunes sync wirelessly with the iPad and iPhone, or, like here, iBooks syncing across Apple platforms.

  • How to Migrate Mail app from 10.5 to 10.8 without Migration Asst?

Trying to move Mail files from a 10.5 (Intel) iMac to a new 10.8iMac.  I tried Migration Assistant, but it caused serious system errors that required reloading entire OS.
I was able to manually transfer all other files I needed except the mail files.
I copied the Mail folder from the older machine  to the the Library folder for the user on the new machine, but when I opened the Mail app, it failed.
I read all information from a brody on my previous post regarding migrating from 10.4 to 10.8 and all supporting discussions I could find, but can not find a solution.
    Any help?

Peruse Pondini's Setup New Mac guide and consider starting over again and using the Setup Assistant. AFAIK, that never fails.

  • How do you sync mail folders from iMac(lion) to my iPad.

How do you sync mail folders from iMac(lion) to my iPad?

Is your email account an IMAP account? If not, the folders will not sync.
If your email account is a POP account, you can create folders and mailboxes in the Mac mail app and those folders will be for local storage and organization on the Mac only. That is a feature of the Mac mail software. Those folders/mailboxes will not sync if you do not have an IMAP account.

  • Mail Account sync from mac to iPhone

i cant sync my mail accounts from my mac to my iphone 4! the register "info" isnt there in iTunes.
so i have to type all the settings on the iphone again. with mountain lion it was really easy to sync my mail accounts. why is this function not included in mavericks?

I've got the same problem. I need my iMac to talk to my iPhone but it's not doing anymore. I also tried creating a randon Playlist in iTunes and it didn't sync that either. I don't want iCloud as it confuses matters and gives me double entries, I'll let you know if I find a work around.

  • Unable to find notes synced from iPhone in Mail

Notes from my iPhone seem to sync to my IMac, but they don't show up in Notes under Reminders in the sidebar in Mail.app. The notes I entered in Mail.app are there. The iPhone notes, no.
I asked in the iPhone discussion and was told I should see a flippy triangle next to Notes in the Mail.app sidebar. I don't. Should I? Should it have subheads for "On My Mac" and "MobileMe"? They're not there. How can I get them to appear? Would doing so help me see synced notes from iPhone?
I believe the syncing of notes from iPhone is actually happening, because when I dock the iPhone I see a warning on the iMac that I am about to change more than 5% of the notes on the iMac. I tell it OK and see a progress bar in iTunes telling me Notes are being synced. But I can't see the newly synced notes in Mail.app. Help. Thanks.

OK, I think I figured out what to do to get all my Notes to sync between my iPhone and my iMac (including to/from MobileMe).
If you have a like problem in syncing Notes (or any other item that you intend to sync), the main thing is to read and follow the instructions in
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
which is called "Mac OS X v10.5, v10.6: Resetting the SyncServices folder." (This is the first hit you see in Google for "reset mac sync services.")
If you, like me, are running Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard on your Mac, the key thing is to:
    1. Open iSync.
    2. Choose Preferences from the iSync menu.
    3. Click Reset Sync History.
There are different instructions for Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard.
I didn't actually have to re-enable my iPhone's sync settings in iTunes or the sync settings under MobileMe in Preferences. Both sets of sync preferences were the same as before. But when I went ahead and synced my iPhone, and again when I synced MobileMe, I got a number of warning messages on my iMac screen telling me I had to decide whether to Merge the notes from each of devices or sources ... which I in fact did. (I also got some warnings indicating that whatever was doing the merging needed access to my Keychain, which I always allowed.)
After all was said and done, I had a fully merged set of all my Notes in Mail.app on the iMac and also in Notes on the iPhone (and, I believe, in MobileMe).
I don't yet know whether there were any unwanted side effects to all this. However, it seems likely that using this procedure could produce ugly side effects under some circumstances, especially if you make any mistakes such as not allowing the various sources of notes to be Merged into one big batch. Be careful ...

  • Controlling iMac iTunes from an iBook via airport

    Hi all,
I have a wireless network with an iMac G5 1.8GHz 20" and an iBook G4 1.33GHz 12". I'm aware that you can play a shared iTunes library over the network but what i want to do is play my iTunes library on my iMac with it's JBL Creature II speakers but by controlling it from my iBook. Basically I'd like to listen to music from my desktop speakers and (for example) skip/fast forward etc from my laptop in my bedroom. I sometimes use my Sony K700i as a Bluetooth remote control but this is unstable as soon as you go into another room. Any help and info will be much appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi Andy,
To do this i use a very handy program called Salling Clicker. Unfortunately for you it looks like there is not yet any support for the K750i but i'm sure it won't be long before you can use it. I'd highly recommend it as its easy to use and very responsive. Not only can you use iTunes but also programs like Keynote, Apple DVD Player, Mail, Powerpoint, Quicktime, Address Book and you can even control the mouse pointer with your mobile's joystick. Well worth the $19.95 for me. Here's the link for you to check if/when its been updated:

  • Why is contact sync from iphone or ipad to local iMac address book gone?

An option for syncing contacts from iphone or ipad to iMac seems to be gone.  From searching other posts on this topic, I see where contact sync is now "through iCloud" but is this the EXCLUSIVE choice for syncing contacts?  In other words, there is no longer any sync of contacts NOT through iCloud; I cannot sync contacts from my iPhone to my iMac without it all being stored in the cloud.
This is absurd.  My iCloud was hacked (not a password issue on my iMac or any local trojan/etc there are support threads about this) and tons of spam sent to my contacts when I used to sync through the cloud.  I turned off iCloud sync for contacts and opted instead to sync from phone to mac and from iPad to mac and this was working just fine, keeping me nice and updated every day no matter where I modified any contacts.
Now it seems that is no longer possible.  Is this by design?  Why on earth was this removed?  Is it a "feature" of these new products to remove working sync methods and force everything through the cloud??

The ability to sync contacts, calendar and browser bookmarks directly from a Mac running Mavericks to an IOS device via USB or WiFi has indeed been removed. Synching through iCloud, Exchange, WebDAV or a similar cloud service is the only option now. You can comment to Apple in this issue via their feedback page, if you wish:

Boot the G4 Mac into Target mode...

That should make the G4 look like a big FW drive to the iMac.

How does one remove temporary files from Safari?  A friend logged on to her Facebook account using my iMac running Mac OSX 10.7.5 and Safari 6.1.6.  Now I can't remove her e-mail address from my computer.  When I open Facebook her address shows in the user button.  I do not have a Facebook account.  It was suggested to me that I try clearing temporary files from Safari but I can't find anything that tells me how to do this.  Are temporary files the same as the cache?  It also was suggested that I try clearing Safari cache.  How do I do that?

Check Safari/Preferences/Passwords to see if the Facebook account is there. If so, select it and remove it. If you are still having problems, Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. If that doesn't work, Safari/Reset Safari.
