Mail Syntax on Yosemite French Keyboard
Hi,
Which is the right hyphen ?
On Mavericks, i set Mail so that i could send emails from different accounts using keyboard shortcuts. And that worked fine.
On Yosemite, the syntax has changed. My problem is I don't know how to type the corresponding dash with my French keyboard.
Any suggestion?
Note (in case the above mentioned isn't clear)
I created my Mail KBSs the following way:
1. System Preferences > keyboard > shortcuts > application's shortcuts > Mail
2. I selected Mail and typed my name, a dash and my email address. For example, my name being Hercule Poirot, I typed:
Hercule Poirot – [email protected] (with KBC: ctrl-alt-cmd-P)
I tried all the dashes I could possibly find (even all those in "Edition > Special Characters"), but no success, the KBS I set for my different Mail accounts don't even show up in Mail when trying to compose an email. I've been trying for weeks, shut down Mail, shut down my computer and so forth.
On the US keyboard, I've read "option-~" generates the right dash. But not on the AZERTY Fench one.
Found the solution (myself eventually).
Here it is in French, sorry.
Pour appliquer le BON tiret:
1. System Preferences > keyboard > shortcuts > application's shortcuts > Mail
2. Juste AVANT de placer le tiret, basculer votre en clavier en "English (U.S.)"
3. Pressez ALT-) (ALT et Parenthèse fermée)
4. Revenez au clavier français
5. Ouvrez Mail et... YOU'RE GOOD TO GO , les raccourcis sont de retour.

Yosemite kill french keyboard and switch to english

I am on Yosemite system.
The keyboard is switched to english each time I switch off and on my imac ( 2011). I generally see it when trying to surf and I can't enter some of my passwords because of the qwerty keyboard.
So basically when I go to the preferences and then to keyboard options, french keyboard disappeared and I have to manually add it again each time I am opening my imac.
As I am french it's highly annoying to have to change each time this way.
It was working perfectly before updating to yosemite.
Any idea to fix this ?

Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

Using sysprep with french keyboard
I have a big problem when doing a sysprep with intel based macs under windows xp. By default in french, we have the french(canada) keyboard installed. When I install bootcamp drivers, it gives me the canada multilingual driver from apple which fits with the apple keyboard. When I do the sysprep with the right syntax for the apple keyboard (code the codes from the registry) :

LanguageGroup=1
SystemLocale=00000c0c
UserLocale=00000c0c
InputLocale=0c0c:a0000c0c
It reverts back to french canada instead of giving me canada multilingual.
I don't want to change the keyboard mapping on all the computers, I have 120 iMacs to install!

A PC keyboard will work fine on the Mini. The Windows key is Command key, and the Alt key is the Options key.
I first tried a Belkin ergonomic PC keyboard that had USB ports on the keyboard. I switched to the Apple keyboard because the Belkin's keys were hard to press, and often the character was missed even though I pressed the key.
While I REALLY prefer the ergonomic style of keyboard, the Apple keyboard does have the volume up/down keys and CD/DVD eject key.

No access to IMAP server in Mail after installing Yosemite.
Installed Yosemite on my I-mac and now cannot access email on SMTP IMAP server. Keep getting error messages. Black triangles with an exclamation mark appear beside account name in the mailbox. Spent 2 hrs. on the phone with my Internet Service Provider and got it to work, but as soon as I was off the phone it reverted back to same problem. Is there a mail problem in Yosemite?

For those of you having email password issues, I'd suggest:
1) Close your mail client (i.e. Apple Mail, Thunderbird, Outlook, etc).
2) Launch "Applications" > "Utilities" > "Keychain Access.app"
3) Select "login" from the sidebar top left area, then select "Passwords" in lower left area
4) Click into the Search box in the upper right and search for your ISPs server names. For example, type "aol" or "google" or "comcast", etc.
5) Look through the search results for password entries related to your SMTP (outgoing) or IMAP/POP (incoming) mail servers. Select them and delete them.
6) Open your email client and try to receive mail, and then to send mail. You should be prompted to enter your mail username and/or password.
Hopefully this might fix issues for those of you using mail clients that use Keychain for credential storage. -

Does anybody know if anything is going to be done regarding the mail problem on Yosemite?
this was a recurring on Maverics too...
Since i updated to Yosemite, mail does not work well on my iMac, i cannot get my mail... but i can send mail.
it does not seem to connect properly to my Pop account.
my mail does work well on my iPhone and other devices.
it was fine after the recent Yosemite update, and now it's back... and very frustrating,
is there anyone who can help ? or anyone at Apple that is going to fix it for once and for all ?

Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Bracket not working with french keyboard

I use an English version of After effect ( I prefer) and I have a french keyboard. I can say it works great all the time but I still can't use the [ ] bracket.
In the french Keyboard it is Alt+shift+( ( Left parenthesese is on the 5 key ).
When I type Alt+shift+[ on After It happen nothing??
If I swith to american language Alt+[ it works fine.
I don't understand
I someone in the same configuration could help me
Thank youAlvanh - I had similar problems with a German keyboard. Try installing the script called Keyed Up. This will let you change shortcuts at will, and should allow you to find replacements on a French keyboard that work. It can be found here:

On a new mail message in Yosemite there is no Send button or icon. Only a grayed out word that says "send. I can receive mail but not send because nothing at top of email allows sending. Please help. This is true of two .me accounts I have.

It may pay to send a Screen Shot of the Connection Doctor info. (see the Window Menu)
It would seem the IMAP or POP side is logged in bit the out going STMP server is not.

junk mail filter in yosemite doesn't work. from the flags, i can't find the 'mark as junk' selection. Formerly clicking on the email address in question would allow one to 'remove from previous recipients' which would help to filter out spam. I've adjusted all the settings under mail preferences, but that is not helping.

With 'Mail v8' and 'Yosemite' 'mail' "account settings" are not saved and I keep having to check the "SSL" box. This has only occurred since upgrade to Yosemite?
Any help would be appreciated as this is so frustrating!!Update to 3.6.16 has fixed this problem.

in the preferences tab you will see keyboard, and then you can change it to be in french instead of english... and if need be you can pop out the keys and move them around to how you are used to...

thxYes. The external drive containing the files should also be attached to your computer, of course. As you are new to Mac the external volumes , when mounted will show up as an icon on the Desktop on the right hand side (under the Macintosh HD icon). You can double click that and a Finder window will open for you to browse the files contained. Leave that open to one side and have iTunes open just beside it. You can now drag the files from the external and drop them onto the Device of your choice as it appears in the iTunes side bar. The Device name (for example "So & so's iPod" will get a blueish window around it; a small green circle with a "+" sign will appear letting you know that all operation can be completed. Drop away! The files will go to the correct categorization in the iPod: audio to songs; videos to movies; podcasts to podcasts and so on.

How to use French keyboard with FCP English Shortcut

I have a new MAC PRO and im using FCP, the shortcut wont work
when my keyboard is French keyboard. I always need to change it back to english
to be able to use them. Since im always writing in french, it became a pain to switch it 20-30 times per days
On my last mac I didnt have that problem, I tried looking for some setting in FCP
but I can't find any.
Does anybody know how to make this work ?
Thanks !Remapping is where you set keys on your keyboard to perform specific functions that aren't otherwise set to keys. Once you change your keyboard to French, you lose some of the pre-mapping capabilities. Go into Tools/Keyboard Viewer, and you can map from there. If it's confusing, look it up in the manual. It's clearly outlined for you.
