Mail takes long till it starts sending

My Mail takes a long time (ok, about one minute or so) before it starts to send an email. OTOH my iPhone 4 sends the emails instantly. So I wonder, if there's some special reason for that, like maybe a cache or so that should/could be emptied? Thanks for a hint!

Usually I use a POP account for my email. In addition I have also a MobileMe account. The POP accounts use port 995, the me.com port 993. All the settings are exactly the same on the iMacs and on the iPhone.
As a test i created a new user and started there from zero - same slowness in mail. Further-on, no matter if I use one of my POP accounts or the me.com for outgoing mail, no difference.
Both 993 and 995 are incoming ports. What are you using for outgoing ports? The default setting is to try 25, 465, and 587. You may be getting some unusual failure on the first try - probably due to ISP issues. You may want to try specifying a custom port of either 465 or 587. That will bypass the failure and cause it to connect right away. This is on the outgoing port. See my post above to find out where to locate this information.

I've finally able to solve the problem. The problem was due to start up item. There were 2 trial application (expired long ago) in the folder. After clearing the application, start up and shut down are fast as light.
I think I've "awaken" the start up application after "IceClean" as IceClean has deleted their log file or something like that and therefore the applications have to run again.
In order to be fair to IceClean, it is my fault to be blamed.

The Application Takes long time to Start

Hello All,
We ar eon Unix->64 Bit-> Essbase 11.1.1.3.
Problem Description : The application is taking long to start up. around 5 to 6 minutes. This is very first time it is happening.
There were no specific changes done to the application in the recent releases.
I have tried all options 1. Compacating outline, 2. Purging the application log etc. all other applications respond good on this host except this. Usually any application should not take more than 1 to 2 minutes to start up.
There are no specific errors or XCP files recorded in the logs and folders.

Well I am back on this issue again. I have been working on various option to get this issues solved " start of App takes long time"
Here are some Details. We are on SunOs 64 Bit, has 12CU with dual core, with Essbase 11.1.1.3 running on it. This is an ASO application and has just 7 dimensions, Out of which the ORGANIZATION Dimension is pretty huge with Multiple Hierarchies enabled ( Both Stored and Dynamic ) and has more than 20,00,000 members including the alternate hierarchies ( Shared members)
I did a smoke test by building dimension by dimension the app was startiung up in just *40* seconds. and when i reached the ORG dimension and added more than 70,000 memebrs . there i fall sick. the app now gets back to its old issue ( Takes more than 10 mainutes to start).
CPU Usage ranges between 3.1 % to 4 %

Takes long time to start mobile 5200

I have Nokia 5200 from last one year. These days, I am facing a strange problem, whenever I change a simcard, it takes too long time to start mobile, even more than half an hour. I am frustated by this. Can Anybody please help Me?

My FaceTime on my macbook pro is taking a long time to start up. It just bounces for in the dock for a long time until it finally opens. its really annoying since t takes a while to open and then sometimes it shuts down unexpectedly in the middle of a call. How can i fix this??

Adobe form take long time for Check/Send at portal

did you already contact your basis-guys to trace the performance of the ADS itself?
Sounds to me, that the connection of the portal is not that good and maybe this is one of the problems.
Also check on the interface to the form. what takes the time... the driver-program fetching the data or even the form itself.
Additional to that you should have a look inside the form and see how much scripting is inside. Sometimes there is a lot of unnecessary source inside and out of that, you didn't share the form (if it is a SAP-delivery) I cannot get more in detail with my answer here.
Hope it gives you a clue where to start with your journey.

This isn't likely to be anything to do with the size of the message.
I'm guessing it's related to DNS. The server performs a reverse DNS lookup on your client IP when it connects. Until that lookup completes it won't process the message. If your DNS isn't setup properly then it can take up to 30 seconds for the DNS lookup to timeout before the mail server continues with the connection.
You can get an idea if this is the case by watching the Mail Activity window as you try to send mail. A long 'opening connection' phase indicates that this is likely the problem. You can also check the mail logs or message headers which may indicate the same thing (e.g. the headers won't show the reverse lookup of the client's address).
As for how to fix it - that's up to your DNS server configuration, so check with whoever manages that.

Visual Studio takes long time to start up

When starting Visual Studio on my machine it used to take a few seconds to start up and be ready to either open or create a new project. Recently however I am finding that it is hanging - stuck on "Updating the News Channel" and "Connecting
to " Visual studio Online. It remains unresponsive until these actions are completed. I have a fast internet connection and a fast computer with solid state drive. I have not experienced any issues browsing using IE or using other applications.
Is there any suggestion that can help improve this situation?

What does "Updating the news Channel" mean? You mean that open the VS IDE, and then some links or videos showed in the start page.
Maybe you could change some settings in your VS IDE under TOOLS->Options.
As you said that the VS hanging when it connected to VSO, one idea is that you could post an issue to the VSO forum:

In addition, for the performance issue, we would think about many elements.
For example, the machine configurations, run the VS for a long time(we often restart the VS), the temp files(clean them), or the add-ins or extension tools (you could disable them), the third party processes in your task manager which make the CPU is high
or others.

Mac OS 10.4 Mail takes longer to receive than on Outlook Express 5

I receive email via Outlook Express 5.0.6 within an hour (but hate to use it). It can take Mac OS 10.4.8 Mail up to 24 hrs longer. Mail Preferences are set to: Check for new mail:” Every 30 min.” Under Accounts>Advanced: “Enable This Account” and “Include when automatically when checking for new mail” are both checked. The ISP is Comcast. What is the problem?

We have the same problem. The user rights under Leopard are not interpreted correctly while the Tiger clients show the correct entries. I´ve posted another topic to that thing...

Mail takes long time to arrive

Hello Experts, I am using 10.8 server for host my web sites and email.
I created host name for for my server called mail.fm-host.biz and updated the pointed site from domain control pannel in domain reseller, and i see the it looks like working, my domain name is www.fm-host.biz,
I have created few email accounts on server and try to connect from outside, connection works, but the problem is when i receive email , it does not arrive fast, some times it take more than 10 hours to showed up in my inbox,
But some emails quickly showed up,
what seems to be the problem ?

Check the SMTP mail server logs for potential message arrivals, and see if the messages are arriving and are then receiving an SMTP 450 "not now" status returns, and having to be retried.
Also, your public DNS is incorrect

This is what I was referencing in this previous thread.
There's no reverse DNS (address to domain name) which means other mail servers can and variously will see your server as a spam engine. These DNS checks are effective, and are becoming increasingly common parts of spam filtering on many mail servers. The host names involved are also mismatched. Pick one — mail or www — and use it consistently. Your choices here are to fix the local reverse DNS translation with your ISP, or to configure and use a mail relay or mail hop service, or to have some number of mail servers simply decide to drop messages arriving from and sometimes simply not sending messages to your mail server.
Inbound messages will be subject to greylisting, pending your server learning those remote servers you communicate with. This triggers the 450 status mentioned above. Greylisting is an effective anti-spam technique as the spam engines don't typically retry mail messages and real mail servers do. (Yes, it's possible to disable Greylisting entirely and to whitelist specific servers that you trust without waiting for greylisting to train itself.)

VI takes long time to start

Hello All,
I have a VI that takes ages (well, about 20 seconds) to start. When I press the arrow, it does nothing (arrow is not in 'running mode', the front panel's grid still there) for about 20 second before running normally.
I did put a probe at the very begining of the VI to be sure that nothing is running during these few seconds and like I suspected, it is not the case...
I'm using LabVIEW 8.2 for this project on a Windows XP computer. My other VI don't behave like this.
Some shared variables on use in this VI...
Anybody have ever seen this?

That definitely sounds like a frustrating issue. What is your application doing in those subVIs? Would you be willing to post your code for us to look at?
Another thing to look at is what the resource usage looks like on your computer when you start the program. Make sure nothing looks out of the ordinary there.
Sorry I can't be of any more help at the moment but hopefully we'll be able to resolve the issue with some more information!

Why GPS Takes long time to start in E90

i do have an E90, everytime i start the MAP the GPS takes more than 10minute to start and sometimes it dosent start unles i plan a route so i start using external GPS is there any updates or a way to raise the performance of the GPS??

Incorrect.
A-GPS is used to speed up the TTFF or sat acquisition. Nokia is using the TI chip in the N95 and the E90 rather than the better SIRFstar III chipset.
A-GPS is new.
Show the KUDOS button some love.... Hit that bad boy.... It don't hurt....

I'm trying to install Solaris 10 x86 in a Athlon XP 1800 1Gb RAM DDR, HD ide 40gb, Motherboard ASUS A7A266-E.
The booting system starts and print "Running Configuration Assistant" after it freezes...

I'm using the tools which fullfill my needs best.. so, if the PC offers you "better" results, use it.. no dogma..
delay: sure, the electronics have to digitize the video.. a process of high computation = time/delay ..
quality: a TV signal fills about a quarter of my Mac's screen (or less) .. looking at it in "fullscreen" you have to blow up.. .every pixel get 4x4 pixel = low quality...
and: you go from digital to analogue to digital .. there HAS to be a loss of quality ...
BTV offers full-screen, doesn't it..?

MBP takes long time to start up and applications freeze up

This has been a problem for a while now and I tried deleting the harddrive and reinstalling all of my software but it didn't work. Safari can work for a while but regularly freezes up so I have to force quit and reopen. Some applications like Pages don't even open most of the time and the icon just continues to bounce endlessly. I upgraded the software recently but it's still a problem. Does anyone know what the issue might be?
