Mail taking up 5MB for iCloud Backup - Why?

Why does my iCloud backup say I have 5MB of Mail on my iPhone to backup when I do not use iCloud Mail, I use Hotmail...Never have used iCloud email.    Trying to backup my phone to the iCloud for the first time.   Is there a way to turn off backing up mail?  At this point I need 3.4GB more of storage to backup.   Really?  I could careless if email is not backed up - Hotmail is web based that I can access anytime.

Managing your iCloud storage
that should help you to find instructions inside on how to control what are you backing up and possibly avoid payment. I personally disabled my
camera roll backup. Remember that if you don't backup you can lose that info.

  • Mail taking up too much iCloud backup space; deleting emails doesn't help

My iCloud backup said yesterday that over 500 MB was being used by the Mail portion of the backup. So I went into iCloud.com, deleted all of the mail in my Sent Mail folder, then emptied the trash entirely. When I did that, it got worse; it said that 1.2 GB of the iCloud backup was taken up by the Mail backup. That doesn't make any sense. That is actually the opposite of what was supposed to happen.
Today, it is back to saying that Mail takes up 609.4 MB of space in the backup, but there is next-to-nothing in any of my iCloud email folders, and nothing with any attachments.
    What is going on?
There does not appear to be a way for me to delete the "Mail" portion of the iCloud backup. And there are almost no emails left in any of my iCloud email folders, even the Archive, Sent and Trash. How do I free up this space?

I did some quick calculating. It says:
    Total Storage 5.0 GB
    Available 4.2 GB
    5000 MB
    - 111.6 MB (the space taken up by the iPad backup)
    - 38.7 MB (the space taken up by the iPhone backup)
    - 3.8 MB (the space taken up by documents backups)
    = 4845.9 MB
    4845.9 MB
    - 4200 MB (the storage space that it says I have left)
    = 645.9 MB
So, 645.9 MB is curiously close in size to the 609.4 MB it says for Mail. So either it IS backing up the Mail to the iCloud, or else something else (or several somethings) that is similar in size is taking up that space, but is not accounted for in the list of things that are using my iCloud storage space.
So what are my options? I can try the buffering thing you mention, check back again on Monday and see if it is still showing a mysterious disappearance of 600-650 MB of storage space.

  • Cannot select ok button for icloud backup popup stating "This ipad hasn't backed up in 8 weeks."

I cannot select ok button for icloud backup popup stating "This ipad hasn't backed up in 8 weeks. Backups happen when this ipad is plugged in, locked and connected to Wi-Fi"

Reset it by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release.  You won't lose any data by doing this.

  • HT201318 I had 40 GB for icloud backup already which I had paid $40 for already  and I upgraded  to 100.  Shouldn't I only be charged $60 instead I was billed 100!  How come?

I had 40 GB for icloud backup already which I had paid $40 for already  and I upgraded  to 100.  Shouldn't I only be charged $60 instead I was billed 100!  How come?

yeah, that stinks. do you at least get a full year from your purchase date?
the only thing i can think of is that they charge you 100 for a full year. but you would think they would apply a retro rate for what you haven't used.
how long have you been using your 40 GB? when did you first pay for it?
depending on your answers to those questions you might have a good case to call apple and get something fixed.

  • When I try to add a song ti iTunes match it said (This item is not eligible for iCloud.)Why

When I try to add a song ti iTunes match it said (This item is not eligible for iCloud.)Why??

Sorry, Maybe I didn't explain that correctly.
The song has to be available to purchase in the iTunes Store in order for it to be used in Match.
So if you purchased a song from another source or imported it from a CD it  sould show up in Match!
however if say you purchased or imported a rare mix CD, that would not show up.
that is the first step to check anyway.

  • IOs 8.1 Mail app keeps asking for iCloud password

Since the update to iOs 8.1 i have a problem with my mailbox.
Every time i want to create a new mail, it asks me for my iCloud password.
This happens on my iPhone (6) and iPad (Air) while im in my iCloud inbox, Gmail inbox, or just the general overview.
Whenever i press the create new mail icon it will ask for my iCloud password.
    - When i give the iCloud password (correct one) it wont ask for it again in the next 15 mins
    - When i dont give the iCloud password (cancel) i can just send mails but it will ask for the password whenever i create a new mail.
    What i did:
    - Remove iCloud account > reboot > Add iCloud account > didnt solve the problem
    - Remove Keychain  > didnt solve the problem
    - Remove iCloud photo's > didnt solve the problem
    - Remove iCloud mail > still asks for the iCloud password.
    - Remove iCloud > solves the problem but i dont want to remove iCloud
    - Disabled all iCloud options, (mail, contacts, etc) > didnt solve the problem
    - Disabled 2 step verification > didnt solve the problem
Everytime i want to create a new mail, u see the phone/pad use the "syncing icon" 3x 5 seconds, maybe a link here?
Anyone else with any ideas that i can try?

That's interesting that it didn't start to happen after a while on your work iPad. I just tried my iPad this evening and I'm getting the same iCloud password popup message when I try to create a new mail or enable "Contacts Only' in Airdrop.
I still think it's a problem with our iCloud accounts. Some flag in the system isn't set or something for some reason. I don't even have mail switched on in my iCloud account so there is no valid reason why Mail.app would try and authenticate to iCloud just because we create a new email.
Signing out of iCloud fixes the issue for me (not that it's a valid long term solution) so that points the finger directly at a setting on my server side iCloud account I think.

  • HT4859 I recently restored from iCloud backup,why weren't my pictures restored?

Just wondering why my photos weren't restored, when I restored my iPad from iCloud backup?

It's difficult to say whether it's stuck or not as the time to restore a backup can depend on many factors.  You'll have to decide when you think it's just not continuing.  You could try turning the phone off (hold the power button until you see the red off slider, then slide to turn off), then back on to see if that would get it going again.
When you're convinced it's just hung, you can go back to settings and tap Stop Restoring iPhone to stop the restore.  You'll then have to try restoring it again (Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, go through the setup screens and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup).  Be sure it's connected to your charger and wifi while it's restoring the backup.
You might also try the approach posted here by ezjules: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19518589#19518589.  This seems to have worked for some people who had trouble restoring their photos from an iCloud backup.

  • HT5262 How do i releasing the warning in my ipad for "icloud backup This iPad hasn't been...."

My iPad screen has been locked, can not doing anything. THere is a pop up window "iCloud backup, This iPad hasn't been backup in 4 weeks. Backups happen when this iPad is plugged in, locked and connected to Wi-Fi".
i already connected to Wi-Fi and computer, but still locked.
    How to solve this problem.
    Regards,

    Try this now.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • HT204074 changing apple id for icloud backup

    Hi!
I just changed my email address (and thus my Apple ID).  I was able to change the Apple ID for my email on my iPhone, but for some reason I cannot change the Apple ID on my device for iCloud.  Please help!
    Thanks!

You have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • How do I put the correct e-mail as my username for icloud on my iPhone?

My phone keeps asking me to sign into icloud, but when I try it has the wrong e-mail as my username. I tried to delete the account, but it askes me to give my password inorder to delete it and I no longer know the password as it is from an old apple id. What should I do?

If it's an IMAP or Exchange account, the messages are stored on the server, and you don't have to move them. If it's a POP account and you removed the messages from the server, ask for instructions.

  • Oki Printer scan to mail function - which settings for icloud?

I am using an Oki MC560 multifunction printer.
It also has a scan-to-mail function which i now intend to use with my @me.com address.
Unfortunately i can't find any information what to enter in the setup.
At least in the preferences it only suggests a server number (like 192.168.3.5), not a name (like smpt.me.com).
Does anybody know the correct preferences for that printer or where to get it?
Oki itself couldn't provide me that information.
    Thanks a lot.

    Incoming server: imap.mail.me.com
    Outgoing server: smtp.mail.me.com
    username: your email address
smtp server port: use defaults. SSL Enabled
    All this means practically nothing
    1. "Incoming server: imap.mail.me.com"
(Tried To set-up new mail account with this - nothing)
    2. "Outgoing server: smtp.mail.me.com"
         (Is already set to this!)
    3. "username: your email address"
         (where?)
    4. "smtp server port: use defaults. SSL Enabled"
(Where? There is no "default setting" in Mail 2.1.3)
My mail settings are all messed up and need to be completely re-set.
I need more descriptive instructions (illustrated), if possible, for setting up a new mail account in Mail 2.1.3 that will work with the new iCloud.

  • How can I use Yosemite for iCloud backup if it doesn't exist?

There was an update to iCloud.  Now my documents on my MBP don't sync with my iPad correctly.  The computer tells me I need to update to OS X Yosemite.  How can I do that when Yosemite isn't scheduled to come out till the end of October?

See:  OS X Beta Program FAQ
And see this for work-arounds: Using iWork with iCloud Drive
If you upgrade to iCloud Drive now:
Your documents will keep up to date across devices with iOS 8, Macs with OS X Yosemite, PCs with iCloud for Windows 4.0, and iCloud.com. (OS X Yosemite will be available this fall.)
Your documents will no longer keep up to date on devices with iOS 7 and Macs with OS X Mavericks or earlier.
You’ll be able to use the iWork web apps on iCloud.com.
You’ll be able to use the Share via iCloud feature on iOS 8 and iCloud.com. You’ll be able to use it on OS X Yosemite later this year.
Documents you previously shared via iCloud will be accessible to collaborators.

  • TS4009 My iCloud is taking forever to backup, why?

Why is my first iCloud backup taking forever?

An iCloud Backup (at least the first one or ones after any major changes) can take a long time.
It is entirely dependent on the amount of data being backed up, plus the speed of your internet connection. If you have many gigabytes to backup and a slow upspeed it will take a long time.
Buying iCloud Storage space will not increase the capacity of your phone.
