Mail: The Address Book

I'm new to Mac, like most I guess. Would someone tell me how to enter an e-mail address into the address book by manually typing and adding. I'm about to pull my hair out-- Thanks

  • What is the deal with the new Mavericks version of the Mail program..?  I cannot simply double click in the address book to place names in the address line?

I can no longer simply double click on a name in the contacts list to place that name into an an email??
You now have to select a single name(or a group), and hit the "TO" button.
Have the engineers at Apple gone nuts??  They just made it more difficult to add names??  Are they going for a windows workability??
If anyone out there can tell me how to go back to this feature, please, please let me know..
Adding addresses is now not working very well....??  Please help!
    Randy

OK, JUST TO CLARIFY:  I OPEN MY MAIL PROGRAM.  I then start a new letter.  I then click on the little person icon button which opens up the address/contacts list.  This action does not open up the address book as such.
I simply want to select various contacts from the list.  But now I can no longer simply go down the list to double click on those contacts that I want to automatically drop into the TO field of my new message.  It does not work any longer in Mavericks??
Now I have to click on each contact, and then go up, and click again on the TO button ....
Can Apple please stop making tasks more difficult??  The previous version worked great, and now it has been upgraded so that it doesn't work as simply as it did??
    Frustrated.!!!

  • How can I sync the address book from Mail to my Address book?

Ok, I open a new message and click on the Address Book icon in the new message to find my contacts on the address book, I choose the group I am looking for and the group has people on it that I have already deleted from my address book! How can I sync the address book from Mail to my Address book?

It is using the same database on disk. You may have to re-launch Mail.

  • Why are none of the groups in my Address Book showing up the address book tool in the new message window in Mail? Actually how do I get the two to match?

I seem to have lost the groups from my Address Book in the address book tool in Mail. When I try to address a new email, all my contacts are grouped under all and the other groups found in my Address Book application are missing. Is there a way to get the groups to show up in the address book within Mail?

When you make changes in AB, quit Mail for the changes to be added to Mail's database file. Reopen Mail and try it.

  • Suddendly (no external shock) Thunderbird stopped finding the address book, but it finds the right addresses when sending a mail with a name existing in the Boo

The phrase is all what happens. If ask for the address of, say, Joe (existing in the book), it gives nothing. If I write an e-mail message to Joe, Thunderbird inserts the correct address to Joe, and if I send it, it goes correctly. The Address book looks "strange" its content (nearly empty) does not correspond to what it was. I am working in Linux Mint 17.1 with great satisfaction fo the rest.
    Thanks for helping. Giancarlo.

    Thanks for answering,
however I miss what to send you: The address book is missing most of my contacts (they were there, before), but if I send a mail to one of those missing contacts Thunderbird attach the correct address without my intervention: funny. Mau be a virus did that, bu how can I recover the missing address book (hidden somewhere, certainly). I cannot show in a screen copy the facts I describe here. Anyway I enclose the screenshot of the opening of the actual address book. Please ask me any useful question on the above.
    Again thank and greetings,
    giancarlo.

  • Mailing List I made up disappeared from the address book after I got out of the address book.

I made up a mailing list with all my families emails in it. I got out of the address book and when I went into it again later, the mailing list I just made up was not there.

    fiddledum,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I would recommend that you check out Font Management in Mac OS X Tiger and Panther, by Kurt Lang.
Another possibility is to Quit Address Book, find the com.apple.AddressBook.plist in the ~Library/Preferences Folder. Drag it to the Desktop, and log out/in or restart.
Attempting to install a newer version as you have discovered will not work.
    ;~)

  • Mail and address book very very slow opening with the spinning ball

Just tried Snow Leopard again - last try in Oct. That was a bummer.
All seems well except my mail and the address book.
Address book opens with nothing - spinning ball - and eventually opens with all the info.
Takes forever to make a change.
Each time Mail takes forever to open but then works fine.
    Suggestions on a fix?

Problem was to many smart groups in my address book

  • HT2486 My mail account is linked to my address book. The address book shows First Name, Last Name. When I try to insert a name into an email, the order is reversed...Last Name, First Name.  How can I make the email read in the same order...First Name, Las

My Mail Account in linked to my address book. The address book shows First Name, Last Name. When I start an email in Mail, the name does appear but the order is reversed...Last Name, First Name. I must have changed a setting somewhere but I don't know where. Does anyone know how to correct it?

I don't have any problem with my system. My guess is there is something there you aren't quite getting. I'd recommend a visit to your Apple Store, AASP or to contact AppleCare so they can coach you personally.
You can also play with the Address Book Preferences. However to see how changing a Preference affects the Address Book drag the Preferences window off of the Address Book so you can see both the Preferences window and Address Book Windows. Then toggle a Preference and you will see it instantly changes in the Address Book.

  • Wheres the address book in mail

When I send a message in mail in the "To" field there is no shortcut to the address book at the end of the field.
I have my contacts arranged into lots of different contact groups, which I use to visually and easily navigate to them the predictive input is frequently useless, and disorientating. Sometimes I cant use it at all because I don't know the first letter of a contact I just know what contact group its in and its a case of I'll recognize it when I see it, how do I get the address book short cut in the "To" field back

What you need to do is add the Address Book button to your button bar in two places.
    1. Right click on the Mail button bar and select Customize Buttons. Then add the Address Book button to the button bar.
    2. Compose a new email. Right click on the button bar within the compose and select Customize Buttons. Add the Address Book button to your button bar.
Now, whenever you open Mail, you'll see a button to click for Address Book and whenever you compose an email you'll have the Address Book available.

  • A few months ago, my G5 started up with the address book and mail opened at startup. They are not in startup items, and I cannot get this to stop. Any suggestions?

A few months ago, my power mac G5 began starting up with the address book and mail already open on the desk top.
Neither of these is in my startup items, so I am at a loss as to stop this behavior.
    Any suggestions?

Are they in Login items under System Preferences/Users/Login Items?
In the Dock, right click the Address Book and Mail icons, select Options, and make sure "Open at Login" is not selected.

  • Import the address book from entourage to .mail?

Does anyone know how to import the address book from entourage?
I have had major problems with entourage - and I have decided to use .mail.
I have managed to get the email accounts transfered, but I can't figure out how to get the address book.
This is about 15 years of acquiring address, so, it would be a major thing to manually do this, not to mention that I can't find an address book in .mail
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    AWebdancer

Thanks - I moved the addresses, it wouldn't let me move the groups, but at least I have the major addresses.
One thing that would make .mail better is to be able to do a search on it for an old email that you now need. I hope that comes out with the new osx software.
    Thank you so much Alberto.

  • When forwarding an e-mail I have lost the address book contact list on the left side.

I used to have the address book contact list on the left side of the page being forwarded to allow easy selection of addressees. It's gone and I need it back.
    Thank you very much

Open a Write window and press F9 to toggle the Contact Sidebar on and off.
You can also turn it on from the View menu in the Write window.

  • How to restore mail and address book?

I recently had to reformat my hard drive and I had backed up my entire home directory. I would like to either restore everything in these two programs, or consolidate the data with that on another computer. Where do I find the files? I assumed it would be in Library somewhere, but I can't find them, what are they called, and how do I get the data back into the programs?

You will find the Mail data in /Home/Library/Mail/. Address Book and iCal data are in /Home/Library/Applications Support/. The preference files are in /Home/Library/Preferences/ and will begin with "com.apple.".
Copy the appropriate files and folders to their corresponding locations on your computer.
