Mail thinks I've never been there before, Wecome to Mail wizzard pops up

Hello, not the first time this has happened, but the first time I've sought advise. I recently turned on my computer and clicked my mail icon and the mail Welcome screen came up and I am now asked to completely start over, create all my accounts over again.
I looked out in my user/mail area and everything is there. Doesn't matter, I still have to create all the accounts from scratch and then import my mail folders. This is a lot of work, as I'm running 6 accounts.
I'd like to know what causes my Mac to not recognize me as a user after so many years and make me redo everything. How to avoid in the future?
First, I noticed my sent mail was mostly gone, and thought it weird, then at next Mac log in, no email accounts...

Hi all,
Having just provided technical support to a family member with this exact same problem, I thought I'd share my experience for the benefit of the group.
*The problem*
Mail for whatever reason unexpectedly quit (not a regular occurrence in this case). On clicking the dock Mail icon to restart, Mail presents the Welcome To Mail screen and requests that accounts are configured.
*The solution*
Looking in <user home directory>/Library/Preferences/ there are two files:
com.apple.mail.plist
com.apple.mail.plist.saved
On inspection the com.apple.mail.plist file I discovered there wasn't a lot of content, it was less than 4kb and looked like a vanilla version. The com.apple.mail.plist.saved file was a reasonable amount larger and on inspection contained all my setting. Replacing the former with the latter did the trick.

Firefox won't open any sites that I've never been to before

Firefox will not open any new sites that I have never been to before nor will it let me search for any questions that are new on the little search feature on the top right of the screen. All sites that have been previously visited are fine - for new ones I just get the little circle that goes round and round (sorry, I'm not really computer literate) until it finally tells me that it has timed out. I can get to these new sites just fine through explorer. I may remember incorrectly but not long ago there was an update for something (may have been java or google) and afterwards a box popped up and I think I checked something that I thought I was supposed to check but now think I wasn't - but have had this problem ever since.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

How do I enable an update on a 3GS which has never been updated before?

I need to update iPhone 3GS, as it has NEVER been updated before. Under the general/settings, there is no update icon available! How do I install this?

The Update option on the device is only available in iOS5 and later.

IGNORE the last post: he thought you are using Lion or Mountain Lion.
Since you are using Snow Leopard, you need to install Rosetta. It can be found on your Snow Leopard Install DVD in the Options section.
Once installed all should be well again.
Also, if your computer is connected to the internet when the Dialog Box about PowerPC applications comes up, it MIGHT allow you to download Rosetta from the internet. There has been some discussion that Apple has discontined internet download of Rosetta into Snow Leopard.
Someone else will have to address your lost files problem.

Video walkthrough online for Final Cut Pro X when approaching it from a Never Been Used Before scenario?

I've used iMovie a few times and been quiet successful with it, but I was thinking of getting Final Cut Pro X as I want to do some more advanced video editing now (I really dont know the terms for what I want to be able to do are, but things like be able to stack say 10 different camera angles up on top of each other and decide which part of each one I want to use).
My problem is that I cant find many videos online (youtube etc) if I were to approach it as if I've never used it before.
Most of them go on about how things have changed from one version to the next and whats new in this edition.
I dont want WHATS NEW though, I want WHAT IT CAN DO.
So some kind of walkthrough (It can be an 90 minutewalk plus through for all I care) that shows off most of the things you can do with it.
Any suggestions of ACTUAL links?

What you described isn't really multi-cam editing.
I think FCP X is idea for what you want because you can AUDITION as many clips as you want then you simply select this or that angle and play it through in the timeline - it's a fabulous feature in FCP X.
I strongly recommend you watch some good (PROPER) tutorials on FCP X.
I've tried a number of FCP X Tutorials and in my experience, Ripple Trainingis clearly the best.
There is a small fee, but it's more than worth it.

3G Never been synced before.

My girl friend has a 3G that she has never connected to an iTunes account. She has had it for over a year and the OS has never been updated. It is runing very slow and the web browser won't work any more.
I have a 3GS and an iTunes account. I would like to create another account for her and sync it on my PC to update her OS but I'm worried that it will wipe the photos she has on her phone. Will it wipe them and restore it back to the factory default? Do I need to just plug it in and pull the photos off like it was a USB drive?

This is what you need to do:
First, give your girlfriend her own SEPARATE login on your computer. By doing this, you insure that none of your and her data get intermingled. This will also keep her itunes account separate from yours...which is what you want. Once you've done that, proceed:
The photo sync is one way: computer to phone. You will have to use whatever image capture program you have on your computer to pull the photos off her phone. You can chose to delete said photos or leave them on the phone after you've pulled them off. After you've done that, proceed:
Set up her account in itunes, then:
1. Disable auto sync under preferences, in itunes.
2. Put one contact & one calendar entry in the appropriate programs on your computer, in her login, they can be fake, doesn't matter.
4. Connect her phone, itunes running, DO NOT SYNC.
5. Store>Authorize this Computer.
6. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure her purchased content on the phone is in itunes).
7. Right-click(control-click if on a mac) the phone in the device pane, select reset warnings.
8. Right-click again, select backup.
9. Right-click again and select restore from backup, select the backup you just made.
10. This must be followed by a sync to restore her itunes content, which you select under the various tabs. You'll get a popup regarding her contacts & calendars, asking to merge or replace, select merge.
Sometimes photos in the camera roll can become corrupted or give problems in trying to import, i.e. your computer or itunes may not even see the phone. The photos most likely to cause this are one's saved from emails or downloaded through safari. If you run into this problem, delete the photos in her camera roll.

Ipad keeps thinking i'm at my house in England, even though it's never been there?

Basically i've just bought an Ipad in Prague, i'm here studying for the year. I'm connecting to the internet with it via connectify on my laptop, and for some reason it keeps saying my location is my house in England. I've managed to get it to change to Prague by using Skyhook, but it keeps resetting back to England.

Apple are using their database of wifi spots and their location where to find your location where GPS signal is not available (or iPad doesn't have GPS).
Over time, your laptop's wifi hostpot may have been simply mapped ... well, at your home And apple still thinks that that's where it is. It may take some time before this is updated. It may also happen when moving home, and taking wifi router with you, if there are not enough other networks around to use for location.

Why do my photos from the Further Festival in Portland Oregon show that they were taken at Red Rocks CO when I've never been there? I don't believe it is coincidental that they wre there the previous week. How is the location being tagged if not GPS?

We saw Further at Mcmenamins Edgefield on Friday and Saturday night in Portland Oregon. However, when I look at the 'Locations' tab in the Photo App, every photo shows that it was taken at Red Rocks Colorado. Further was there the week before Edgefield but me and my phone were not! I can only think of 2 ways that could happen - either Further/Mcmenamins was overriding the GPS signal or Apple was using some facial recognition to recognize the band and override the location.
Any thoughts?

Never Been Asked Before.... Scapy......

I have a question about a library available for Python: Scapy (www.secdev.org/projects/scapy/). This library offers a variety of things but I am interested in how it interacts with wireless networks.
I have read countless tutorials and documentation on it but I can't figure out the following:
-- How to sniff for wireless networks (listen to beacon frames for passive scanning)
-- How to sniff for wireless networks (transmitting probe request frames and then listening for the response - active scanning)
The above two points are to detect any wireless networks within the range of the wireless adapter (basically I want a list of networks)
-- I then want to know the signal strength of each ACCESS POINT per network (in other words each wireless network may have more than one access point - signal strength as a percentage)
-- Other information about each and every access point such as (access point name, access point MAC, time of arrival packets, time of transmission packet, HOW LONG A PACKET TOOK TO REACH ME (as accurate as possible, not seconds - perhaps milliseconds?)
-- And any other information about the access points or networks
I need to know how to achieve this because I ultimately need to know HOW FAR the access point is from me (leave me to figure this out, it should be possible with the above information)... Please suggest and advise and help me figure the above out.
Does Anyone out there use this? know how to do this? can help me? PLEASE... I have been stuck on this for a very long time and I am desperate for some help. An ideal answer would be lines of code with comments please.
