Mail  - Uintended Saved Messages and Attachments in .imapmbox

+Why do I have thousands of documents (messages and attachments) from past years stored in folders with suffix .imapmbox?+
Time Machine quit backing up because of insufficient space on my external drive. Searching for an answer, I found (and deleted) a few thousand files dating back a couple of years: nearly 150gb of old messages, images, movies, and documents that I did not know were stored. Many were stored multiple times. Most were at the locations:
Macintosh HD => Users => (Username) => Library => Mail => Mac (Username) => Deleted Messages.imapmbox => Attachments
. . . and similarly with the last folder in the sequence being "Messages." : Sent Messages.imapmbox =>
The situation also occurred with "Sent Messages.imapmbox" having hundreds of Messages and Attachments.
I had no knowledge of these being on my HD because when (in Mail) I clicked on "Sent" and "Trash On My Mac" I saw relatively few files only the ones I expected, given the selections I made in Preferences.
In Mail Preferences for "Sent" I have checked store on server and delete when one month old.
For Trash I have checked moved deleted messages to Trash mailbox and store deleted messages on server. Also, "Permanently delete messages when one week old."
In Preferences - General, I had selected "Remove Unedited Downloads: After message is deleted."
I do want email downloaded to the Mac HD to read offline, why do they get stored embedded out of sight (and previously out of mind) down in those .imapmbox locations?

No, you can't emulate that feature. But you can just compose your message and when you're done, press Return at least 3 times and attach your file there; that will make the attachment be at the end of the message (such as an image), or appear separately as an attachment in the message header when the recipient opens it.

  • How to move messages in "Saved Messages" and "My F...

I've just upgraded my phone from 6280 to N73 Music Edition.
To transfer all transferrable data from 6280 to N73, I used PC Suite 6.84.10.4 to backup 6280 and restore it on N73.
Contacts, calendar, bookmarks, messages in the Inbox/Outbox/Draft/Sent Items are all transferred well into N73. However, it's not transferring my messages in 6280's Saved Messages and its user-created folders!
On the 6280 phone itself, I tried to move messages into Inbox but it doesn't work. 6280 only allows moving of messages in the user folders to other folders or the Saved Messages folder.
I have lots of messages stored in my 6280's Saved Messages and folders. How can I transfer them all to my new N73 phone? Would appreciate help.
    Thanks

there you can mark all messages in a folder and copy them to your pc. on the new phone vice-versa.
I've just tried it out. I can select all messages from the Archives or My Folders of 6280 using PC Suite and drag them into a PC folder. This works. However, when I tried to select all messages from the PC folder and drag into Inbox of N73, the messages are not copied.
So, this method doesn't seem to work

One possible solution would be to organise your inbox into folders.
Its never relly good on any system to have one folder that has everything in it.
Try going to you web gui for that mail account and organise your folders and move mails from your inbox into corresponding folders for better organisation.
Several folders containing the same amount of one folder will usually load a little quicker as the folder may not be accessed to download its content unless veiwed.
So having 10 folders with organised content, and you inbox as an area thats to hold only new emails would work much much quicker with imap.
Most imap servers will only update the contents of a folder when its veiwed.

Open iTunes on the computer.  Without any iPhone plugged in, go to iTunes' menu and do Store > Sign Out.
The click the iTunes Store row on the left of the iTunes display.  You can then sign on from the signon row on the right side of the display using the correct Apple ID and password.  Then you'll be all set!

  • Mail 2.1.3 and attachments in the middle of messages

    Hi
We have users with OS 10.4.11 and Mail 2.1.3. Often I get messages from them with attachments mid message, the rest of the message gets converted to ATT00001.html and I have to open that view the rest of the message. Other's with various Mail clients get similar results.
It's usually because they've attached the message when the cursor was mid-message. 10.5 / Mail 3 has the Edit>Attachments>"Always attach Attachments at End of Message" option which gets around this.
My query is can I emulate this option somehow with Mail 2.1.3 ?
    Thanks

  • Mail not saving messages in Sent if previously in Drafts

This question was already posed several months ago but not really answered so I am trying it again.
I sometimes save a draft message in the draft folder only to send it later. Often it is the case that this previously saved draft does not appear in the Sent folder after being sent. I use IMAP settings and have four accounts running simultaneously. Other than in this case, mail is saved consistently in the sent folder.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Gerry

Thanks for discovering this issue being connected to drafts. I have trouble with this for a couple of months as well.
Since you assume it to be connected to "drafts", I suggest to deselect "Store draft messages on the server" for your IMAP-Account. I just did this for myself, to see if it helps, and can't give you results yet. Maybe you just wanna try simultaneously. I guess, the reason for our problem could me some messy communication between Mail and the server, where one party get's confused.

  • Messages and attachments

I'd like to delete messages and their attachments not just from mail window, but from Library also. All attachments and messages , completely. I did this before in mail window and Library and the messages in mail window reappeared but grayed out and blank. When I clicked on message and hit delete nothing happened. When I clicked on it and hit Command X and delete...nothing happened. Whats up?

If you are deleting mail from within the Library > Mail folder in your home directory, you are getting the grayed out messages because the index Mail is keeping of what's in that folder says it should be there, but since you deleted it manually it's obviously not. To remove a message permanently once you've deleted it, you should go to Mailbox > Erase Deleted Messages. To clear those grayed out messages, go to Mailbox > Rebuild. I just hope Mail doesn't get too confused by what you've deleted, else you might actually lose more messages you don't intend to.

  • How do i overcome "itunes library cannot be saved" message and problems?

    Hi fellow itunes users
This is the second time i've had this problem in the past few months. I was working on my itunes for hours getting playlists in order, ripping songs from CDs, etc and all was going well. I burned a whole load of CDs with the new playlists and songs so no major loss other than time if I wanted the CDs replicated.
I had the message come up, "itunes library cannot be saved" when i was closing the program down which worried me as I had no option but to accept this. I switch the machine on the following day and boot up itunes to find all the songs I saved and playlists made disappeared. Clearly they were not saved but and there is no way to get them back as i did not do a time machine back up at that moment but what bothers me is if it happens again.
Can anyone suggest a way to prevent this from happening again?
Your reply and assistance will be greatly appreciated!!
    Many Thanks

You can verify your directory by running Disk Utility > first aid verify.

  • Saving files and attachments

I have a Blackberry 8330 Curve and i can't figure out how to save files and attachments. I can open them but when I click the menu, as one person suggested, it does not give me an option to save. I have version 4.3
    Thanks for your assistance.

    Sure just follow these steps
First download and install the Desktop Manager from here (4.7 without Media Manager is recommended): https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22
Next download and install the handheld software from here: http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
Afterwards try reloading the OS by connecting the device to your computer, open the Desktop Manager, then go into the Application Loader. This will open a wizard that steps you through reloading the OS onto your device. More detailed steps can be found in here:

  • Restoring mail messages and attachments from Library Mail folder

Can someone please tell me the best way to do the following...
I have recently performed an erase and install of Snow Leopard.
I need to restore my old mail and I have the following data...
A copy of the "Mail" folder from the "Library" folder, up-to-date as of yesterday (19/9/09). I omitted to take a copy of the "Mail Downloads" folder which I believe contains the attachments for the messages.
An older copy of the "Mail Downloads" folder, up-to-date as of 31/5/09.
I was advised by one person at Apple Care that the Mail Folder was all I needed to back-up all my mail. Then the next advisor told me I should have taken a copy of the Mail Downloads folder as well. Another advisor suggested I exported all the mailboxes manually one by one which I now wish I had done.
In any case, I am where I am and I would like to know what to do with the data I have to be able to access my past mail messages.

    Robert,
If you were to need to do this again, all you need is to restore the Mail folder and the com.apple.mail.plist file (Home/Library/Preferences). If you restore those -- replacing any that might get created, but would not if you don't first launch Mail -- then Import is not necessary and it picks up where it left off.
The Mail Downloads folder is not needed -- its contents are redundant to what is kept with the messages.

  • How can I disable iMessages from archiving messages and attachments?

I noticed while browsing ~/Library\Messages/ that iMessages has been archiving my messages (Archive folder) and saving attachments (in a separate Attachment folder). Under the settings for iMessages on OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion, I don't see any options to disable this. The only thing close to that is already unchecked: Save history when conversations are closed.
Any ideas why iMessages is saving all this information? How do I disable it? My concern is that it's going to keep accumulating data overtime. I don't want to keep having to go back in there and delete those two folders constantly.

    Hi,
This somewhat date back to the way iChat's Saved Chats were once Stored.
At iChat 5 (in Snow Leopard) you could choose to see the last chat - (when opening an new chat with a person you had chatted with before) or parts of the Last Chat in terms of the Last so many IMs.
Example Pic of iChat 5's Prefs
Since then the management choices of the Save Chats has changed in both iChat 6 and Messages.
Messages stores Chats two ways if they are iMessages.
You can elect to Save them in Messages > Preferences > Messages.
It also store the chat.db and other databases items which includes the Attachment items
The chat.db is the bit that fill in the "history" if you iMessage the same person even if you are not saving the Chat in a formal sense in the App's Preferences.
This is irrespective if your delete the Conversation from the Messages main window.
How big these Databases get obviously depends on your iMessages usage.
Striker's link seems to be about a similar issue on an iPhone (I presume it transfers to other iOS devices) but I am not sure that it is relevant in this situation.
    Edit.
I should have been clear that you cannot change the database behaviour.

  • E-mail with Subject, Body and Attachments

    Hi,
I am currently completing a project to create an intranet site for employees.
We need functionality to send email confirmation of a sale to customers. I'm going to start by saying i have zero web design experience and have only been doing this for 3 months heavily using the ribbon with minimal coding. So the situation is:
I have a button that i want employees to be able to click and it opens a new email from outlook with pre-populated body text (which is static and never changes) and 3 attachments also never changing. The employee will then enter the clients email address
and add their name to the email.
I have managed the email and subject no bother. However the body text i want to enter needs to look like this:
    "TRAVEL INSURANCE
I confirm cover is in place.
If you need any assistance whilst abroad call: 0800 000 000 for 24 hour assistance or contact our claims department on:
    0800 000 000. This office can be contacted on: 0800 000 000
asking for extension number:XXXX to speak to myself.
    Yours Sincerely
    XXXXXXXXXXXX
    Travel Adviser
Please Note: This e-mail was sent from a notification-only email address that cannot accept incoming e-mail. Please do not reply to this message."
I've managed to get some of the body text in but no formatting. I've managed line breaks using %0D%0A but if i add a double break to get a clear line there doesn't seem to be enough room and it begins to lose the body text.
    Thats issue 1.
Issue 2 is how you manage to attach files. Everything i look at says you need to do your own piece of coding which is far beyond my capability for this project!
    Any help would be fantastic.
this is my code so far:

    Hi,
According to your description, you might want to let users be able to send email with attachments.
As you might prefer a codeless solution, I would suggest you create a
SharePoint Designer workflow to achieve it.
A solution can be like this:
    1. Create a list “ListA” for storing the three attachments which you want to add into your email, it will be referenced in the workflow;
    2. Another list “ListB” with two columns “ClientEmailAddress” and “ClientNames”, it will be used to collect user input and sent to the workflow;
    3. Create a SharePoint Designer workflow and attach to the “ListB”, set the workflow to be started when there is new item added in the current list.
By doing this, users can simply add a new item in “ListB” with two columns filled, an email will be sent out as you required.
In SharePoint Designer workflow, we can send email contains predefined format easily with the available workflow action in SharePoint Designer.
    About how to
send email in SharePoint Designer workflow:

    http://www.mpspartners.com/2012/05/spdesigner2010workflowsendingemailstomultipleusersfromasinglepeoplepickerfield/
    To be able to
send email with attachments, you would like to install this solution in your environment, it provides a useful custom workflow action you will need:

  • Mail issue: Saved messages fail to forward

I sometimes like to use a previously sent message, or even one saved as a draft (in those respective folders), to forward or reply-all to. Unfortunately, whenever I try to "reuse" an old message like that, I get an error sending the mail:
The gist of the error message being, "Sending the message content to the server failed."
As a work around, I compose a new email, and copy and paste the body copy from the failed message (held in the outbox folder). When I send this new message, it goes without a problem.
I am running Tiger (in English), set-up such that I can communicate in Japanese as well. Could this be somehow "corrupting" emails when they get moved into one of Mail's folders? I have been unable to locate a solution through various on-line searches.

Mail keeps information about outgoing (SMTP) servers in a separate list independently of the mail accounts themselves. The account settings just associate one of the available outgoing servers with each account. Deleting an account doesn’t remove from the list the outgoing server that was associated with it. Orphaned or dangling outgoing server entries (i.e. not associated with any account) sometimes cause weird sending problems.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), choose Edit Server List from the popup menu, and delete any servers that shouldn’t be there — the Edit Server List panel shows the account each outgoing server is associated with.
If the problem persists and you have more than one mail account, try moving the account that has the problem to the top of the list in Preferences > Accounts.

  • Sender mail adapter : no messages and no error log

    Hello,
I have configured a sender mail adapter to read mails from the inbox. I have used IMAP protocol. URL is specified as imap://EMHBSEXM01/Inbox. User name and password is also specified properly. I have kept poll interval to 1 minute. Messages in the inbox are in unread status. But the mail is not getting processed. I do not see anything after 1 minute. I tried using generate fetch report flag. But even then it does not create any message in SXMB_MONI. I checked runtime workbench for Mail adapter but I do not see any message for the same. Is there something that I am missing?
    Thanks,

    Hi All,
I chekced your responses and tried accordingly. Our basis team has given me new link now and the error message has changed. I am getting following error message.

Does anyone have any idea what this error is?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Mail stops receiving messages and then stops responding

I have been using mail for over a year now with no major issues, until now. When I open mail it appears to open fine, and then it automatically starts taking the accounts online. The progress bar shows that there are 200+ messages to receive, and it shows the data rate at about 100ish kb/sec. Once it hits around 60 "received messages" of the 200+ the data rate consistently starts dropping until goes to 0 kb/sec and I can no longer take any accounts on line or even quit mail. The program responds reasonably well, but when I select "quit mail" the window will disappear, but the program will not quit. The only way I can stop it is to force quit. The accounts I use are pop3 and gmail accounts. I thought that maybe it was one account that was messing me up so I removed the accounts systematically and none of them are working properly. I also have been using wireless, so I connected via ethernet, but the issue persists. Any help is appreciated.

Exact same problem here. I tried moving the index file to the desktop and reopening mail. It rebuilds fine but then this problem starts again. It is only with one account, a pop3 account. Gmail works fine. I've deleted all mail in that account via webmail. It still hangs even though there are 0 mails to receive. The indicator shows it is still trying - and that will go on forever. Quitting just like movie_man describes.
Disabling that account solves the problem - but reenabling it brings it back.
I have the accounts sync'd with iPod touch and another home Mac. It has worked fine for years and then this, suddenly.
