Mail Under Squid Proxy

I'm under a corporate proxy (squid) that only has port 80, and 443 available. However, it seems that mac's mail app cannot connect through only these ports.
Is there a way to make Mail connect through 80 or 443? I cannot make a ticket for other ports to be opened as they would only say to browse email through browsers.

If your Squid proxy server is setup only to do ports 80 and 443 it is only doing http and https protocols. If your trying to access an IMAP account you need ports 993 and/or 143 to be proxied. However this will mean you need Squid to be configured to also support that which is via a different type of proxy called a SOCKS proxy. Squid can do both SOCKS and http/https parodying at the same time.
If your connecting to an Microsoft Exchange Web Services (EWS) server then this as its name suggests it uses standard web i.e. http/https protocols and will work with ports 80/443.
It sounds therefore that you are trying to connect to an IMAP server, unless SOCKS is setup then you will be blocked.
If you are trying to access a corporate mail server then the IT department should set things up to enable this e.g. by setting up a SOCKS proxy server. If you are trying to access a personal email account e.g. Google Gmail then you are going to have to use webmail. Personally for personal email I far prefer using a webmail interface as then my personal emails are not stored on the companies computers.
If you are trying to access a corporate Microsoft Exchange server then it is possible EWS has been disabled as Windows clients do not use this protocol, again the IT department should ensure that they provide the services needed to support Macs if Macs are being supplied to users. If the company is providing Macs to users and the IT department is failing to set things up to allow those Macs to connect then the IT department is failing in their job and the person responsible should be replaced with someone better up to the job.

I dont understand what happen?Perhaps you should read up on WHAT a mail (SMTP) server is, HOW it works, and WHAT a PPOP3/IMAP mailbox is, and HOW that works?

Squid proxy server request

I installed squid proxy in our environment for making internet access fast.It works fine when browsing internet. But when we access the our internal webserver\
located in another location it provides the following error message
unable to determine ip address for host
The dnsserver returned:
Name Error: The domain name does not exist
the ip address of requested url is 10.0.0.23. We are using vpn to connect to that network.
please suggest solution for this problem

You will need to specify a DNS server that is the authority for your local network domain, which is also configured to forward your non-authoritative (public internet) requests to another or public DNS servers. When specifying multiple DNS servers, keep in mind that any response from the DNS server, unknown or successful, will satisfy the request and other DNS servers in your list will not be queried. Some implementations may allow you to attach DNS servers to DNS searchlists. If you have a small local network, it might be the easiest to add your local hosts to the /etc/hosts file. Depending on your network security you may also have to look into possible problems of denied requests to DNS servers outside your network. Is there a special reason why are you using a proxy?

If you open Mail and then in its File menu at the top, click on Window and choose Previous Recipients, you'll get a popup window listing them. At that point, you can highlight and delete any/all.

"Weird" needs further explanation.
Google's highly nonstandard IMAP implementation is weird, if you're using Gmail, though Apple bent over backwards to accomodate it. Other than that, what do you mean by "weird"?

I really like the squid-proxy-cache thing, but I got one serious problem:
I always got messages like "TCP_REFRESH_MISS/200 27189867 GET" in access.log, what means that "a newer copy is on the Server" and it does not have it in cache.
I also played around with your configs in squid.conf, I tried even "refresh_pattern \.pkg\.tar\. 262080 100% 262080 ignore-reload override-expire" - but now I got only TCP-REFRESH_MISS in access.log. (before I had them from time to time, nearly random).
I only use the ftp part, not http. (also only using ftp mirror).
A ftp-mirror should never say that there is a newer copy available, because that can not be true. (repackaging etcpp. would increase version number in file name) - so I think I have a problem anywhere in my config.
Do you have any idea where the problem is here?

Mail under Mavericks_keep failing the right place to put the cursor to rewrite a word.
When I´m writing a mail, if I see an error and want to rewrite a word or a sentence, it´s almost impossible to put the cursor at the right place to rewrite what I need. Most of the times I´ve to erase entire sentences and write everything again.
Any suggestion for this new problem under Mavericks? Please.

Mail app in proxy network will not work

Hi guys
iphone / ipad 5.1 in a wired / wireless network. Only chance to reach email is to use a HTTP proxy (tried a few with no auth and with auth).
No way to use MAIL with proxy. I'm able to use safari and app store but no way to use Mail, configured as exchange
I suspect, reading posts on the net, that mail doesnt use proxy for its protocol.
This is very annoying, did someone find a solution or a workaroud?

Check the System Preferences > Mouse settings to be sure they are correct for a three button mouse. Check the Mail > Preferences to see if a mouse preference appears for you. There is not one for my MagicMouse but the secondary click, aka right click, for my Magic Mouse works fine in Mail.

Installed squid proxy, now can't get to HTTPS

I installed the squid proxy along with dansguardian to provide content filtering on the home Mac... but discovered that since installing it I no longer have access to HTTPS. Plus it's just too complicated... I thought I'd uninstalled it, but even after uninstalling it and removing the squid and dansguardian launch daemons, I still can't access https:// sites. Yes, I've removed all proxy settings.
What to do now?

Please can anyone help? I have spent hours trying to fix this. Is it likely to be a problem with the way I configured the card when I installed it? An encryption problem? I have no problems with access to any other websites from the same Mac.

SQUID Proxy cache issue in front of Oracle webcache & Oracle Portal 10g

We are having issue with our site designed on oracle portal front ended by webcache and squid proxy. Current our squid proxy is configure to cache site data which is causing the problem.
The problem is, we have website in multiple language (china english and china chinese), when you navigate the site in both the languages and once the navigation pages are cached in our squid proxy cache, the users see the cached data from the proxy cache(ie. they will see china chinese when navigating china english site and vice versa). Following are my questions?
1. I was wondering anyone of you had similar issues and what did you do to resolve it?
2. What proxy were you using, name, version etc would be helpful?
3. Did you have similar issues with Other proxys out there? besides squid? what was the fix?

Outgoing mail under 3G and Wi-fi

I use my iPhone 3GS under 3G network and two different WiFi connections, so I have three different connection providers.
No problem with incoming mail (under POP protocol) in the above mentioned situations.
For as regards the outgoing mail, it seems that only the main SMTP server is took into consideration, and not the others SMTP servers.
So, in any of the above connection situation, it is necessary to manually insert into the main server field SMTP server identification which matches with the provider setting; in this way, the outgoing mail works correctly.
The alternate servers are not considered, even they are correctly configured and activated.
The consequence is that any time I move and change the connection provider, I am obliged to re-write by keyboard the main SMTP server id.
Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated.

The phone never used both at the same time and at least on mine it switches automatically depending on if theres a wifi signal or not AND application.
some apps may use 3g and cell connection over wifi, especially apps that use location to provide things like weather. Your location is likely obtained thru cell towers so wifi wouldnt be accessed by weatherbug. But market should use wifi if a connection is available.

Groups does not work in Mail under Mavericks

Its not just smart groups, by I cannot get any of my Groups to work with Mail under Mavericks. I am weary of having to type out the address for each person separately. Is there some better way?

I don't know why typing he name of a regular group does not work for you, but…
Another way is to open the address panel, select a group, then select all in the group, then click the two button.

How do i change proxy settings so it doesnt keep asking me "authentication req. The proxy web2.ucsd.edu is requesting a username and password. The site says: ucsd Squid Proxy-cache"?

I changed my proxy setting to access a restricted school website. I don't know how to change it back to normal settings! Every time i'm browsing internet, Authentication Required windows pop up like 4-7 times a day! randomly! it says "the proxy web2.ucsd.edu:3128 is requesting a username and password. The site says: UCSD Squid proxy-cache". and makes me put in username and password every time. sooo annoying. how do i make the setting go back to default??
