Mail user name or password incorrect

I keep trying to send mail frommone of my email accounts on my iPad but I keep getting an error (see name of the thread). The thing is, it isn't incorrect. I am up to date on OS updates and have synced just this afternoon. What's the deal?

Within the Settings app, have you drilled down into your mail server account settings to confirm the server name, username and password? You may have separate entries for both the incoming and outgoing servers.
Was your mail for this account working on the iPad at one point?

I'd been downloading my gmail successfully all day. At 3:19 pm I got the above message and no more emails have been loaded. Dozens have showed up on my desktop, but the iPhone just gives me this error message, even though it was working normally and I hadn't changed a thing. Tried resetting etc. A second gmail account still works. I've had the same user name and password since I bought the phone, and nothing new's been added lately. Help!

This is a new phone and because my new laptop is 6 weeks late I tried to access my e-mail account direct thriu iphone without using a computer in the setup. I didn't want to reset when my PC arrived.
The mail screen is now limited to "Mailboxes" or "Inbox", the other options such as Google Yahoo etc have been unavailable since the screen stuck.
I have a constsnt stream of similar error message "Cannot get mail" "The username or password is incorrect" and it displays my typos in inputting my e-mail address wrongly so I know it is all my own fault.
I have used the de-freezing method and nothing happened. in the interim I borrow a laptop and at a push I can access my email account through safari but that is really slow and I would like to fix this.

Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

Apple are currently trying to get less secure passwords updated. They require that your account passwords are at least eight characters long and contain both alpha and numeric characters and at least one upper case alpha character.
You might try changing your account password to match these requirements.

First create the new client. Then set the system profile parameter thry T Code RZ10 and select instance profile.\
then click new parameters. after that set this parameter
login/no_automatic_user_sapstar=0 then logon new client which one u create then give user name = sap* give password = pass

Just wanted to say I found out the answer. I should have looked first to see if anyone else was having the same problem but I didn't.

I have an iphone 4 and it has stopped updating mail. Three days ago I incorrectly typed in my mobile me password and had to reset it. I have updated my mac account details for my mobile me account on my phone but I keep getting "cannot get mail" as user name or password for.mac account is incorrect. Did you try to delete the MobileMe account on the phone and set it up again after that?
You can also try to replace the account info on the phone during the next sync, if you select this option in the info pane, Advanced Section, with your phone connected to iTunes.

"User name or password incorrect" -- cannot send email

My email account on my iPhone (original) has been working fine until recently. Now I can receive mail, but I cannot send it. It says my user name or password is incorrect. I have double-checked this multiple times, even deleted and re-set-up my account, and I keep getting the same message. I read a few othe messages about this, but I haven't found anything helpful.
I'm using a Google apps account, serving my web domain.

I found this post to an AT&T forum describing a similar problem with Yahoo! mail.
His solution was trying it over and over again until it worked...

Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and select your Comcast account under Accounts.
Tap the ••••••• in Password, backspace over the entire entry to delete it, and carefully type your password again. Tap Done.
If that does not fix things, go back to Accounts, tap the account again, and delete it. Add the account again. That will erase all your saved emails, so if you don't want to lose them call Comcast and ask them to reset your password, because it's probably not matching what they have.

Your signature says you have 10.4.5 - is this correct? (If it isn't, please amend it to prevent confusion).
Tiger is not compatible with iCloud. The only thing you can do is to access your email by setting Mail up manually:

You should be able to access the iCloud website, though Tiger's Safari is very old and I'm not sure whether it can fully cope with it.
