Mail using Comcast Account

For mail enabled web sites, where you click on an "email us" link, the MAC opens up mail on the laptop. I do not use .mac mail but rather comcast, my internet provider. How can I redirect this default to look for my comcast account?

Welcome to the forums!
Do you use a webmail version of Comcast's email client (i.e. you access your email through Safari or another browser)? If so, you cannot set up "mailto:" links to open you Comcast email. You can, however, ctrl-click (or 2-finger-click if you have that enabled) on the mailto: link, select Copy Link from the contextual menu, then open your Comcast webmail, and Paste into the To: field. You will need to delete the mailto: part of the pasted link, leaving just the address.
However, if you access Comcast through POP, then you can configure Mail to check mail and send from your Comcast email account. When you first launch mail, it should walk you through the process of entering your account info, POP and SMTP servers (Comcast's web page should list these), etc.

  • Sending mail using Comcast Account

    Hi Guys,
I am pretty sure I've set up the mail account on the Iphone right. Problem is that I can't send mail. It tries but then says:
    Cannot connect to "smtp.comcast.net"
    Help!
    Thanks,
    Andy

Hello. Posted below is some info you can check on your end.
Go to Settings-Mail- Tap on your account- Go to Advanced.
incoming uses SSL needs to be "ON"
Outgoing uses SSL needs to be "ON"
Authentication needs to be selected for "Password"
How do I check my Comcast email on my iPhone?
You can setup your iPhone to check your Comcast email accounts by entering your Comcast account settings directly on your iPhone.
If this is the first account you??re setting up on iPhone, select Mail. Otherwise, from the Home screen choose Settings > Mail > Accounts > Add Account.
Under the email account type section choose Other.
Select POP as the server type and enter your account information.
    Your email address: [email protected]
    The email server type (POP)
    Incoming mail server: mail.comcast.net
    Outgoing mail server: smtp.comcast.net
Enter your username and password. Your username is the part of your email address before the @ symbol.
You may need to add your username and Comcast password to the Outgoing server settings. Where it says optional. Type username as your full email address. followed by your email password below.
let us know how this works

MacBook Airs won't run Classic, nor will Classic connect to iCloud accounts.    You will need your Mac OS X version to answer the question involved.    Go to Apple menu -> About This Mac, and post in the appropriate forum in the link below:

  • Can receive mail using comcast but not using mail on ipad

I can receive and send mail using my comcast app but can only receive mail using the mail app but not send.

Been there and done that with the Comcast email account on my iPad. Specifically ...
Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

  • Can't send messages from Mail from Comcast account - "SMTP not responding"

Using Mail and a Comcast account, I can receive but not send. The error message on trying to configure the outgoing mail server says the SMTP server isn't responding. If I click continue to set up the account in Mail, then go to Mail Preferences and tweak the ports between 587 and 25, triple check the username and password for the outgoing server, etc. -- still no dice.
I wonder if this might be the problem: Is it possible to configure Mail when you're not using a Comcast installed modem? I'm trying to get my Dad's account up and running on my old Mac with my airport extreme to earthlink modem connection (which works fine for Earthlink and .Mac e-mail accounts.) Apple support and Comcast tech support are both stumped on this one, referring me back and forth to each other. HELP!
    Thanks.

If I'm understanding this, you are trying to send messages with a Comcast account and SMTP server while connected to the internet with Earthlink?
If so, this is the cause of the problem. All ISPs now have restrictions on using an SMTP server that is outside of their network or not provided by the ISP used for connecting to the internet.
If you are connected to the internet with Earthlink at this house in California, contacting Comcast about a sending problem with their account and SMTP server when connected to the internet via Earthlink is a waste of time. You need to be contacting Earthlink if you are using Earthlink for your internet connection.
Do you also have an email account with Earthlink? If so, you can select/use Earthlink's authenticated SMTP server to send messages with your Comcast email account while connected to the internet with Earthlink or call Earthlink technical support regarding their required settings for an SMTP server that is outside of their network or not provided by Earthlink.

  • Mail inbox/Comcast account disappeared?

Hello -I've used Mail for 4 years (with Comcast account). This morning when I opened Mail, it presented the "new features" page - like I was using Mail for the first time. My comcast account / inbox was not there. It was like opening/using Mail for the 1st time with no account info? Does anyone know what might have happened - I didn't delete any mail accounts, etc. Is there a place on my hard drive where the inbox/sent mail is stored that I can retrieve/reopen? Thanks in advance for any help!

What type of accounts are these (POP, IMAP)?
Mail stores all mail in ~/Library/Mail/. For each account, there is a folder whose name starts with the account type (POP, IMAP, Mac), followed by the account username, and the incoming mail server. This is where all account-specific mailboxes are stored.
You should have created a new account in Mail, rather than changing the settings of the old one. I've seen people reporting that doing what you did caused the old account folder to be wiped out (and all the mail stored within it to be lost) without warning. This would be a serious bug, but I've been unable to reproduce it. It could very well be that the old account folder is still there, yet inaccessible.
Take a look at the contents of the ~/Library/Mail/ folder. Do you see account folders for both the old and the new account there?
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the file path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the file path there.

  • Third-party e-mail using bellsouth account on FiOS ISP

My elderly parents were just set up on FiOS as the ISP. They have bellsouth.net as a third-party e-mail through my account. Even when I change the outgoing SMTP to outgoing.verizon.net and try port. 25, 465 or 587, outgoing e-mail through Outlook Express still doesn't work.

If you are using outgoing.verizon.net, then you need to set it to "My server requires authentication" and enter your verizon.net username and password. Port should be either 25 or 587.
If you are using a 3rd party outgoing server on a Verizon connection, then it would be set up as normal but on a port other than 25. Any other port the 3rd party allows should work, but 25 will not.

  • Cannot Send Mail using AIM account.

I can receive mail fine but when I try to send mail I get the following message:
Cannot send mail using the server smtp.aim.com:EmilyLozano.
Use the pop-up menu below to try a different outgoing mail server. All messages will use this server until you quit Mail or change your network settings.
Message from: Emily Lozano <[email protected]>
I left for a trip a few days ago, came back and now for no apparent reason cannot send mail as I always have. I have reconfigured the port to 587 and that did not help. Any suggestions? (I can send and receive fine via the web, but I really hate it.)

I'm glad you got it figured out. So many times people on this forum sit around waiting for help when they could have retraced their steps, like you did, to figure out the source of the problem.

  • TS3276 Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, Mail does not let me send e-mails using Comcast mail server.  Why?

Why is this?  Comcast's SMTP outgoing mail server is set for my e-mai account but I keep getting an Apple error dialog saying the server can't be used.

I solved it by going to Comcast's website which had slightly different instructions for setting up an e-mail account than it did 4 years ago when I first set it up.  Comcast's SMTP server always worked notwithstanding many Mac OS and Mail upgrades over those 4 years.  Apparently, with my upgrade to Mountain Lion, something got sideways.
After following the Comcast instructions, the Comcast SMTP outgoing server now works just fine, as before.

  • Can't open E-Mail using Comcast system.

Firefox did at one time work. I could open E-Mail fine. When Firefox quit, I changed to internet explorer and it works fine. I use version 6.0.1 of Firefox. I've checked for updates and found one and updated it and it made no difference.
Unless I can fix this issue I'll have to revert to Internet Explorer.

Logon to Xfinity Connect webmail using IE then open Preferences for that account and switch to Xfinity Connect '''Lite''' - see the screenshot. Then try it in Firefox.
Once again Comcast didn't test the changes they made to their webmail interface in Firefox. Not surprising since Microsoft is a major stockholder ion Comcast.

  • Sending group mail using comcast

I have been working for two days trying to send out a group mail notifying my friends that I have a new Comcast mail address. I have spoken with 3 Comcast techs who have verified that I have my accounts set up properly. I try sending a group mail and it says that it, "cannot send message using the server smtp.comcast.net. The server response was (suspend) the mailbox is currently unavailable -please contact correspondent directly. If I send out more than one address at a time it will not function.
    Please help!!!

Does the same occur when manually adding more than one email address to the To: field - not using a Group?

  • Cannot send attachments in Mail using .mac account, pop account is fine!

Within my Mail.app, I have 2 accounts: one is a .mac account, the other a pop account.
When I send attachments (jpg always and sometimes pdf) with the .mac account, they do not get encoded properly and my recipients cannot view them -- or they can view, say, 10% of the photo.
When I send the same attachments with the pop account, and within the same Mail.app, I do NOT have this problem.
Furthermore, if I send the attachment from my .mac webmail, I do NOT have the problem.
Does Mail.app have a problem with attachments sent via IMAP accounts?
I have tried Repairing Permissions, deleting the outbox.mbx (and emptying the trash).
Does anyone have any other suggestions? This is driving me crazy.
I am running Mail 2.0.5 on Tiger 10.4.3
Thanks a lot in advance, Neil
Long live the sunflower iMac, iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4)

    Hello Neil.
Does Mail.app have a problem with attachments sent via IMAP accounts?
    None that I'm aware of.
The Mail.app uses MIME 1.0 for message/attachment encoding (which is the internet standard) for all email accounts.
Is your POP account and the SMTP server used for the account provided by your ISP used for connecting to the internet?
If so, try selecting/using your ISP's SMTP server (the same SMTP server used to send mail via your ISP's POP account) to send mail via your .Mac account as a test.

  • Can't send mail on Comcast accounts

I have turned on servers, entered all info. Correctly.  Every time I try to send an email, the message comes back that i have not entered my password.  It has been entered numerous times.  Same problem on iPad. Any suggestions?

also contacted Comcast.  They suggested I download their app for email.  Finally looked into Comcast forums and got some info.  I did a bunch of stuff so not sure which one helped..  I made sure password was typed into smpt outgoing. From setting tap mail, then tap smpt and there will be a place to put password.  Next I took the advice from forum and worked on my email account. I had 12,000 (no kidding) emails in my inbox.  I got rid of all spam, unneeded stuff and put all the rest in a temporary folder.  That seemed to so do the trick. I can now send emails.
In the Comcast forums there are also screen shots to show you exacly how to configure email for iPhone 5, though it seems the same for iPad, etc.
    Hope this helps.

  • Push mail using hotmail account

Can anyone recommend a solution for pushmail using a hotmail account. Currently i have a izymail account forwarding my hotmail to a gmail account which then forwards to mobileme and pushes down to me, this is a temp solution until my mobileme trial expires. Would a hosted exchange account work with push and if so can i use my hotmail account with exchange. Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes, you can use your hotmail account, but the catch is that you have to purchase a yearly subscription to Hotmail Plus. I think the price is about 20 dollars. You also need to have a Windows Live ID. In your windows live account you can set up forwarding to any email account.
