Mail Version 2.1.1 (752.3) Junk Mail Buttons Don't Work

I have ... Reset junk mail.
The problem occurs before and after junk mail is reset and junk mail learning mode is active for any number of days.
When I get junk mail in my inbox and click on it once and then use either the "Not Junk" icon in Toolbar or "Not Junk" button in message header, Mail treats the message as not junk. When another e-mail arrives from same sender, it's again marked as junk. I've noticed that some messages revert to the "junk" colour even after they are marked as not junk.
I've repaired permissions and restarted the iMac and restarted Mail app.
Wonder if I have the latest version of Mail? Please help. Thanks

Have you made any changes to the junk filter in Preferences > Junk Mail > Advanced? Try this:
1. Go to Preferences > Junk Mail, disable junk mail filtering, then enable it again. This resets the junk filter rule.
2. Choose either Training or Automatic mode (it doesn’t matter) and leave the other options checked. Click Advanced to see how the junk filter rule is defined now if you want, but don’t change anything there.
3. Reset the junk filter database (Preferences > Junk Mail > Reset).
You can use the Colors palette (Format > Show Colors) to manually change the background highlight of messages in the message list. Although the Colors palette cannot be used to set the foreground color, it can be used to remove it. In particular, choosing either black or white removes both the background highlight and the foreground color of the messages currently selected in the message list.

  • Mail: Stop showing remote images ONLY in junk mail?

You can set Mail's prefs to not display remote images, but is there a way to set it to not show them in junk mail but show them in other mail? I haven't been able to find it. I'm running Mail 3.6.
    Any help would be appreciated.

No, there is not. It wouldn't be reliable or useful. If Mail filters it as junk, presumably you won't be opening it, and thus loading the images, anyway. On the other hand, if it fails to recognize one message as spam and you open it, you'll load the images and become a "marked man." (ie, your address will be tagged as one where the spam is opened)

  • Junk filter exceptions don't work

I'm using Mail 3.1 and notified that the junk filter doesn't work correctly. Have enabled junk filtering and selected the following exceptions:
    - Sender of message is in my Address Book
    - Sender of message is in my Previous Recipients
    - Message is addressed using my full name
Well it seems to be that the first one doesn't work. 8 of 10 Emails that I receive are marked as SPAM although the Sender is in my Address Book!
Somebody else with the same problems?
    Thanks

To turn off "Message is addressed using my full name" doesn't help Will turn off the filter now...

  • Mail Version 2.1.3 port 110 incoming mail issue

I have 25 macs that all have the same issue, mail goes offline. I have checked with my ISP and my mail server companies and they say that the equipment and setting are fine. I took off the firewall from the network and hooked directly up to our T-1 line and we are still getting the same thing. I tried to remove the possible causes, but we are going through with outbound mail, internet and VOIP. It remains a mystery why the Incoming mail goes offline by itself. I changed the IP coming into our T-1, we have 5 available IP's, that worked for about 3mins. I used Terminal to telnet out to our mail server and this is the message I get:
*Last login: Wed Jul 29 12:32:08 on console*

    Hi nancyjane,
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.

  • Client doesn't activate junk mail handling

    Hi All
This started in the GWIA forum, but there we found out that this was not the GWIA not doing things correctly.
I have a spam filter set up in front of the GWIA (ScrollOut F1).
That together with GWIA tags mails as spam, but when it arrives in the client the properties shows
    Junk Mail Handling Evaluation Results
Message is eligible for Junk Mail handling
x-spam-flag was set for this message
So it seems that the GWIA does it correctly, and marks the mail.
    Then below I see this:
Junk Mail settings when this message was delivered
Junk Mail handling disabled by User
    Junk List is not enabled
Junk Mail using personal address books is not enabled
Junk iCal Mail using personal address books is not enabled
    Block List is not enabled
If I look in the Administration Console Client Options I see this:
    Enable Junk Mail Handling (X)
Enable Junk Mail using Junk Mail Lists ( )
Enable Junk Mail using Personal Address Book ( )
Enable Junk Calendaring using Personal Address Book ( )
    Auto-Delete after: (31) days (X)
Enable Blocked Mail using Block Mail Lists ( )
The client is version 14.0.1 13-11-2014. PO GroupWise Agent Build Version 14.0.1 -118418, GroupWise Agent Build Date 11-12-14, GroupWise Resource Build Date 04-07-14.
I've also tried locking the settings on domain and on user in client settings, but that didn't help.

    Hi,
Are you in a position to open a Service Request with Novell Technical Support?
I have picked up that this "bug" has been reported previously to Novell, but I can't see the details of it. I'm going to ask around in the backrooms to see if I can get this tested for you. I'll let you know if I get any information back from the kind folk that I'm asking.
In the interim, test with "Enable Junk Mail using Junk Mail Lists" and see if it makes any difference. I know that in the GWIA thread I asked you to turn this off, but I was just testing something.
Keep us up to date with your testing progress.
    Cheers,

  • Junk Mail Filtering - is it me or is it just rubbish?

Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere, but didn't have the patience to wade through all the threads. Hopefully someone can help...
Frankly, I think the filtering on Mail (using 3.5 with OSX 10.5.6) is hopeless. Simply put, I've tried configuring it every which way in Preferences but the same issues persist. The main one being that when I configure to "exclude" those in my address book and/or previous recipients list from junk mail filtering ...people in my address book (SPECIFICALLY ME) still end up in the junk mail folder.
I have 2 accounts: Mail.com (POP3) and Gmail (IMAP) and I use an iPhone for mobile access. And I have a work email. All three are in my address card in Address Book.
Yet whenever I send myself (or anyone else) an email -- either from work or from my iPhone or even from within Mail -- it still ends up in the junk mail folder.
I think the problem is that Mail's filtering doesn't look at email addresses. It must look at how the name is set up??? i.e., LAST FIRST or FIRST LAST, etc. and when any of these don't match up it puts it into junk mail folder????
It just seems rubbish to me. Outlook had much more sophisticated filtering options\rule set up.
Anyone got any ideas on how to solve this? Thanks.

    Mulder wrote:
If you have multiple email addresses in your card in Address Book, which messages are going to Junk, and what email address was used?
All three emails go to junk. My work to either personal address. Gmail to Mail and Mail to Gmail emails all go to junk
Have you tried setting up the Junk filter so that:
If any of the following conditions are met:
*Sender is not in my Address Book*
*Sender is not in my Previous Recipients*
    Message is Junk Mail
    Perform the following actions:
*Move message to mailbox: (Junk mailbox On My Mac)*
Yep. Tried that. Still didn't work. Even tried ticking "not junk" on each of the several tests I've sent myself -- and then re-sent more tests, which still ended up in junk????
As I said, I've tried virtually every possible configuration of boxes ticked and unticked and nothing...
My latest setting (using your advanced rules above) were:
    Enable Junk Mail - ticked
When Junk Mail arrives - 'perform custom actions'
Msgs Exempt - In address book and previous recipients both ticked. Use my full name unticked
    Trust ISP headers - unticked
Filter before applying rules - have tried this both ticked and unticked... same result
    Thanks,
    The Smoking Man
PS - Should add that when others send me email to the Gmail or Mail accounts they properly go to inbox, not junk. It's just when I send myself something (anything, really)...

  • I have several imap accounts and want to click one button to empty all junk mail at once. How can I do this?

I currently run Apple Mail on Lion with several IMAP acocunts... I know that there is a right-click option to remove "all deleted" messages  but what If I wanted to do the same for all messages marked at junk in all accounts.  It's really a pain to have to click on each account, select all the junk in the junk folder, press delete over and over.. and then right-click and select "Erase Deleted Items"    Why the heck can't they just have "Erase All Spam Items" also... ??   Or how about "Erase all SPAM and DELETED ITEMS from ALL accounts"   ????

I found the solution and here's how to correct things:
    Apple Mail
Mail has a feature, accessible from the Mailbox Behaviors (or Special Mailboxes) tab of the Accounts preferences, that can automatically delete old spam messages from the Junk mailbox. You can use this feature if you tell SpamSieve to put spam messages in the Junk mailbox instead of the Spam mailbox.
(Note: If you do this, be careful not to use the Junk and Not Junk buttons that will appear in Mail when the Junk mailbox is active; you should always use the SpamSieve - Train as Good and SpamSieve - Train as Spam commands instead. You can use the Customize Toolbar… command in Mail’s View menu to remove the Junk button from the toolbar. Also, if you select a message that SpamSieve has classified as spam, Mail will show a banner saying that you marked it as junk. Ignore this.)
Make sure that Mail knows which mailbox is your Junk mailbox by selecting it and choosing Mailbox ‣ Use This Mailbox For ‣ Junk.
To tell SpamSieve to use the Junk mailbox, open Mail’s Preferences window and click on Junk Mail. Make sure that Enable junk mail filtering is checked. Select Move it to the Junk mailbox. If Mail asks whether you want to move all the messages to the Junk mailbox, say No. Next, select Perform custom actions. Then click theAdvanced… button and edit the rule such that the conditions don’t match any messages. For example, use these two conditions:
Message is addressed to my Full Name
Message is not addressed to my Full Name
and set it to If all of the following conditions are met. Click OK to close the sheet. Do not make any further changes to the Junk Mail preferences.
Go to the Rules section of Mail’s preferences and change the SpamSieve rule to move the messages to the Junk mailbox instead of the Spam mailbox. Finally, chooseSpamSieve - Change Settings from Mail’s Message menu and, when prompted, say that the name of your spam mailbox is Junk.

  • Junk Mail Flagging Issue

I was trying to correct an error I made with Mail and I clicked reset in the junk mail pane. Now it no longer marks anything as junk. I have junk filtering enabled. It's set to mark as junk but leave it in my inbox. I know this is training mode and I am marking the spam as junk but I thought it would still mark the messages that didn't conform to the default rules of the sender not being in address book, or in previous recipients, etc. but it's not. Prior to my clicking on reset it was marking them correctly.
Does the filter start picking these up after a certain period of time or is there something I need to correct?

You should set the junk mail filter to move the mail to the junk folder.
Mail / Junk will eventually 'learn' what is and not junk.
Until you have a large amount of mail in the junk it would be advisable to check through once in a while for messages that you actually need.
Spamsieve gives you the oppotunity to create rules to keep the messages from known address's. Download the 30 day trial to give a go, if you prefer mail junk filtering you can revert back after 30 days.
For your information, I get between 70-100 spam messages per day, I now trust spamsieve to filter them out - it does a great job.

  • Junk Mail Help?

I have a problem. I am being bombarded with Spam and Junk mail. I know that somehow you can access something in mail that would help me with my junk mail, except I'm not sure how. Everytime I get Spam that i don't want i click the Junk icon next to the Delete icon, and i guess mail recognizes it as junk. But then i keep getting more of the same junk without mail doing anything about it, instead the icon that used to say "Junk" now says "Not Junk". Please can someone help me out here?
    Thanks
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

But then i keep getting more of the same junk without mail doing
anything about it, instead the icon that used to say "Junk" now says
    "Not Junk".
The icon shows Not Junk for a message that has not been automatically marked as Junk when received?
Spammers are constantly changing/tweaking their methods to bypass Junk Mail filters but if the Junk Mail filter is no longer working properly, you can reset the Junk Mail filter at Mail > Preferences > Junk Mail and if you have Junk Mail set to Automatic, you can leave it set to Automatic when doing so.
Check Why was I "spammed" at my .Mac Mail address? which applies to any email account.
Do you automatically render all HTML received? If so, check Mac OS X Mail: How HTML Email Messages Relate to Unsolicited Commercial Email ("spam") which applies to any email client such as the Mail.app.

  • Junk mail problem

Here's my problem. I receive notices from something called Disqus. When I post a comment on the CNN website and someone replies to it I get an email with a link back to the story and comments. These used to show up properly in my inbox, but now they always go to the Junk folder.
I was told that if I put the email address ([email protected]) in my contacts that it would sgow up in the inbox. It still show up in junk. Thanks.

Ok, now its even worse! Some mail I sent to myself went to the junk mail folder. Mail I deleted yesterday returned to my junk mail folder. I even wrote a rule specifying a "from" email address. They still go to junk mail.
