Mail vs. Eudora...... any strong feelings?

I have been a user of Eudora since the beginning but am thinking of utilizing Mail as my new email client on my new computer. Having played around with Mail I do not find it terribly intuitive nor friendly. Does anyone (who has first hand knowledge of both of these programs) have any strong feelings about their favorite and why?

I have been using Eudora from the beginning as well. Today I just switched to Apple Mail (in TIger) because Eudora is NO LONGER SUPPORTED and it has started to do strange things lately.
For basic e-mailing Apple Mail is just fine. However, Eudora is much more configurable and has many more detailed features for Rules (Filters) and other settings. I had my Eudora specially configured and have NOT been able to make Apple Mail come close to matching it. But, alas, all good things must come to an end, eventually, and I'll just have to get used to using Apple Mail.
I used a free program called Eudora Mailbox Cleaner (search on versiontracker for it) to convert about 30,000 saved e-mails in 60 different folders. It worked for everything except the Eudora "Out" file which made it crash. THe only way I could move my out e-mails was to first transfer them to another Eudora mailbox and then convert it to Apple Mail with the program. In so doing the Eudora "out" mail box lost its file attachments. All the other mailbox transfers to Apple Mail maintained their attachments correctly as long as you have not moved them out of the Eudora Attachments Folder.
Good luck. Eudora was wonderful while it lasted but it's soon to be just part of history.

I recently switched over to Mail from Eudora because of problems with Eudora and DSL that remain unresolved. However,I've run into an immediate problem.
I retrieve mail from two locations: Home (DSL and now using Mail) and work (T1 and using Eudora). If I read, reply, and delete my mail from home, with Mail, when I next check my mail at work, all of that mail I've read and deleted appears. Mail seems not to be deleting anything off the actual mail servers. I've deleted, emptied trash, deleted trash, etc., but that mail isn't really gone, and that's not really helpful.
Am I simply missing a setting somewhere? A box that has to be checked that says "Really, no kidding, delete the bleedin' mail"? This is not a problem I've encountered with said competing product.

If for a POP type account, go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Advanced tab for the account preferences, is Remove from server after retrieving a message selected and if so, what is your selection below for removing messages from the server?

Wanting to switch from Entourage to Mail 2.0 Any advice appreciated.

I've been using Entourage 2004 for three years now - I'm a former Windows user. However, I am trying to migrate over to Mac only apps. I'm eager to switch over from Word and Excel but I need Windows environment compatibility. Anyway, is Mail 2.0 any good? I use Entourage for the following:
1. Contacts
2. Calendar Reminders
3. Inbox Filtering (into different boxes) and Forwarding (Rules)
4. Color Coding Contacts (e-mails, contact cards, etc.)
Many people I know use Mail, but I was wondering if there are also must-have plug-ins for Mail 2.0? I was listening to MacBreak and they briefly spoke about Mail and plug-ins, but didn't mention any must haves. I tried QuickSilver today for the first time, and it's MS Office integration is less than stellar. The Entourage plug-in for QS drives me crazy as it rarely seems to work properly.
Anyway, that aside, if any of you mail gurus can recommend Mail and must-have plug-ins I would appreciate it.

Jason, I don't know how to fix your problem, but there are a couple of things that don't sound right to me:
If I am sending an e-mail of some length it looks
as if it sends, goes into my sent box, but is never
received by the recipient. I know, because I CC myself.
I don't understand this. What does CC have to do with it?
It seems like Apple Mail knows which messages are tests
and which are the ones I want to send for real and just
blocks those from actually going out.
Well, you've already stated that your messages go to the Sent mailbox, so it's clearly not Mail that's blocking them...
Something to try here would be using another mail client, such as Thunderbird, and see what happens there.
Apple : Please help me on this, because it is a very
bothersome problem and one that I don't think is easy
to pinpoint the cause of.
If you really want Apple to help you on this, you've chosen the wrong way to request it.

I have an ipad2 and was using yahoo mail. I pressed send and it didn't work however it created a draft. I then opened the draft and now I can not cancel or send it or close the window. It just remains in the mail screen. Any suggestions?

I tried that but it is still stuck in Draft. Cancel button does not work but Send button does.

550 5.7.1 Authentication Required; Issue sending mail via Eudora 7.1

I know this topic has been covered previously. I have tried many of the previous suggested solutions but nothing has worked. I thought I would post a message myself, as my situation might be slightly different.
As of July 31st Eudora 7.1 worked great for me. I have it on my desktop and prefer it over the alternatives for a variety of reasons.
I went on the road on August 1st. I tried to access my Verizon e-mail at verizon.net, but using my phone and being all thumbs I got locked out. I created a new pw and proceeded to send and receive e-mail through verizon.net.
When I returned home I could not send or receive e-mails through Eudora. I quickly realized that I needed to re-set my Verizon password in Eudora, which I did. However, that only solved the receiving e-mails issues. For the past week I have been struggling to get the send function to work, again following the various solutions that apparently worked for others in the past, but to no avail.
It doesn't make sense to me that re-setting my pw would leave a lasting impact on the send function only, but I guess stranger things have happened. Does anyone have a solution that has worked recently?

It could be a server setting for mailbox handling. Have you checked what options you have set for for synched mail to another machine. Log into your email from say your PC and check the settings from there.

Ah, so you're not considering running OS X Server here, you're running OS X client and asking about the mail client — looks like both the Apple bot that suggested that support article and I were confused.
Mavericks Mail.app does have a few flakies that I've noticed but does work. If Mail.app gets confused, restart it and see if it's less confused. If the accounts get confused and start tossing the password prompt, remove and re-add the accounts. When re-adding the accounts, don't use the Internet Accounts path, use the Mail > Preferences path.
Do make a backup or two before the Mavericks upgrade, and most definitely configure and use Time Machine or some other backup tools after the upgrade.
If you do decide to go to server (which is where I'd thought this question was originally headed), then you can download everything to your own local server — that'll take some add-on software to pull the mail from your ISP, or a set of mail-forwarding rules to push the mail, and some command-line tweaks to relay the mail out (as you're probably on a DHCP dynamic residential IP address), but that'll work, too.

Cannot connect to smtp sever in Mail or Eudora

I've been reading the forums all afternoon and although there are a lot of similar problems none exactly like mine (or, no solutions that fixed mine!) After a hard drive failure I'm trying to set up Mail with my godaddy account. I can receive, but not send. In the activity window there are two spinning barber poles:
Delivering message (connecting to server "smtp.secureserver.net")
Checking account (connecting to server "smtp.secureserver.net")
But after a short time a third message blinks something about "writing to disk." It doesn't last long enough to read the details.
I tried the "perfect godaddy settings" I found in another thread but they didn't work. And then (and I suppose this is significant) I gave up and switched to Eudora and the same thing happened- I can receive but not send.
Any suggestions?

OK, I discarded the reference to the network as well as the half dozen or so smtp servers I've tried over the course of the day. I still can't change the network (airport) password. I type in the new one and get the message NetCfg wants permission to change access permissions of item PPP Password in your keychain" If I click allow, it goes back to what it was. EEEK!
And I still can't send email - same thing, can't connect to SMTP server.
Suppose I just chuck all this and upgrade to leopard (which I was thinking of doing when my hard drive crashed.) Will all these troublesome settings remain or can I start anew?

Hi! I'm just checking to see if you got an answer to your question because I'm having the same problem with my Mac and Eudora.
We have four accounts being used and Eudora works on all but one of them.
Error message: "I said PASS & the POP server said -ERR authentication failed."
Any help? Thanks!
