Mail - where is the trash can

This is my 3rd install of OSX 10.4.5 - this time when I created an email account there is no trash can - I see how to make new mailbox folders but can not find where thetrash is hidden - please help - thanks

Hi again,
In each account folder, and sometimes in the Mailboxes folder, there is a Deleted Messages.mbox, but it is only created by Mail (and not by you) after first deleting a message in the Inbox of each account, and for the one for On My Mac, until a messages is deleted from an On My Mac mailbox.
Also, in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Mailbox Behaviors, you have to have selected to have deleted messages moved a separate mailbox.
Hope this helps.

  • IOS 8.2 : Message : Where is the trash can ?

    Hi all !
Just gave my mother an iPad, She asked me once how to delete a message/picture in the Message App. I show it to her. I have since updated her iPad to iOS 8.2 and the trash seems to have disappeared. On the iPhone, it is there. But not on the iPad.
My mother, aged 75 and who hates technology,  asked me to phone the company and tell them that she wants her trash bin back
    Here you go apple.

It should be there where Demo states it is, under the circumstances he mentions. I've run across this same issue where the trash can was simply NOT there, despite the fact that it should've been there. A device reset cleared that up. Give it a try.
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.

  • Having problem deleting all but one particular mail from the iPhone 4S mail inbox. I can delete mail either by the trash can or using edit, selecting the mail message and deleting.  However there is this one mail message that will not go away. Any ideas?

I am having a problem deleting all but one particular mail message from my inbox. I delete by either using the trash can icon for individual mail, or using edit, selecting the mail message (s) and clicking delete.  However there is this one mail message that will not go away regardles of what I do including deleting all from the trash.  Any ideas?

I get that every once in a while on my 3GS, and that's what I do to get rid of it. Probably not a bad idea to power down the phone every so often, anyway, gets rid of any crud waiting to cause a bug.
Glad to hear that it worked for you.

  • Apple Mail, where is the Trash folder?

In Apple Mail (w/charter.net) I can't see where my emails go when I delete them?  Macbook Pro, OS X, 10.9.2.

  • Where is the trash can so I can delete photos?

I have 600 unwanted photos in my Photostream and very little free space on my iPad 4. When I select photos in the "My Photostream" album there is no option to delete them, as shown in other posts in this forum. Icloud ignores them, because they are over 30 days old (why this crazy limitation?)
How the ..... Can I remove these photos? The only option I know is to delete everything by returning the iPad to its factory state, which is not attractive.
Apple seem to have forgotten that people need to be able to manage their data, iTunes is the worst piece of software I've ever experienced and icloud is little better.
Please does Anyone know a solution, which will overcome Apple's omission and allow me to manage my photos myself?
P.S. Sorry about the random capital letters, but this iPad won't let me place the cursor with any precision. That's a question for another day, together with "why does this forum say that I have IOS 6.0.1 on my IOS 7.0.4 iPad?

Yes it is definitely the icloud Photostream,
All Photo Streams are iCloud Photo Streams. Are the photos in My Photo Stream in tthe Albums section of the Photos app?
It was only when I deleted some that I discovered that icloud wasn't working as I expected. It ignores them,
Deleted them from where? iPad? Computer?
What happened and what were you expecting?
What do you mean it ignores them?
It ignores them, because they were transferred to the iPad
Transfered to the iPad from where?
they were transferred to the iPad more than 30 days ago.
This is irrelevant. Photo Stream photos are stored on the server for 30 days but your iOS device will hold 1000 Photo Stream photos.
With that being said, if they are older than 30 days, turn off Photo Stream in the iCloud settings then back on and it will clear all but the last 30 days of photos in your Photo Stream.

  • Since updating I no longer have the ability to delete photos individually or as a folder where has the trash can gone

Since I updated can not delete photos from camera rolls the option to delete photos one by one has also vanished how do I delete now to make more room

In thumbnail view in the Camera Roll album you should have a Select button at the top right of the screen which will allow you to select photos to delete, and tapping the trashcan icon bottom right should delete them. In full-screen you should still have the Edit button bottom right of the screen

  • How to make my mail go into the trash when I select the trash can icon

Nonsensically the default behavior for mail from google (setup either as push or fetch) is for the trash can icon to archive the mail (drop it into all mail) rather trash it. I was able to correct this behavior for the fetch mail account but for the mail setup as push I see no option. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
What kind of drugs were the designers on where they thought I would like to either archive all my junk mail or better yet have to login from my desktop and re-review it and then delete it again. That sounds GREAT for productivity! ***?

This is definitely an apple problem and not a google issue as plainly demonstrated by the fact that there is a setting located at:
settings -> mail, contacts, calenders -> "account name" -> Advanced -> Deleted Mailbox
It defaults to "all mail" but you can correct it to "Trash"
The option simply isn't there for accounts setup as push. I am absolutely dumbfounded by this. How can they not fix such a simple yet ridiculous problem? There is no functionality to delete mail from my iphone.
An option that's there when the account is IMAP but not there when the account is Exchange, and somehow that must be the iPhone's fault? When creating a calendar event for a 'local' calendar on the iPhone, I can set two alerts, but when I create a calendar event for an Exchange calendar, I don't have that option and am limited to just one. You might think that's plainly an Apple problem, but you'd be wrong since Exchange calendar events don't support multiple alerts.
Point is, this is more likely a Google issue than an Apple one. Note that Google Sync and Gmail push email are beta products. There are a whole bunch of known issues that pertain to Google Sync and different mobile devices.
But, you cam blame it on Apple if it makes you feel better...

  • I deleted the trash can in Mail. So how do I get it back?

I deleted the trash can in Mail. So how do I get it back? Don't know how it happened, don't ask, ha ha ha
    Thanks

Move deleted messages to a separate folder unchecked
Well, that’s the reason you don’t have a Trash can now. Deleted messages are being left in their mailbox instead of moved to the Trash, so there is no need for a Trash.
Before turning that setting back ON, you may want do do View > Show Deleted Messages, in case there is any deleted message that you want to undelete -- turning the setting back ON will cause those messages to be permanently erased.
BTW, why does your profile say Mac OS X 10.3.9 in some of your posts and Mac OS X 10.4.8 in others?

  • What is this "cube" icon in Outlook Mail in place of the trash can delete icon.

What is this "cube" icon in Outlook Mail in place of the trash can delete icon.

Is it a gmail account ? If so then you've probably got archiving enabled on the account in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars - in which case you should be able to change it back to a trashcan : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4207

  • Is you mail app crashing when using the trash can delete??

Is anyone having a problem with mail app. crashing after using the trash can delete. I am no longer using the trash can so I have not had another mail crash. Swipe and delete and edit and delete work ok. Only the trash can delete causes the problem.

Alberta....I first tried the reset, which didn't work, so I had to do a full restore. Which helped has corrected the problem. I just can use the trash can delete.

  • How do I add my Applications fold back onto the dock? People say I must drag it near the trash can, but that just puts it past that barrier. I am trying to get it back to where it disappeared from, on the left hand side near the finder icon.

With respect, you actually cannot store folders on the left side of the Dock - only on the right side. I wonder if you're talking about Launchpad, which looks like a silver rocket and shows you your installed applications? It's not actually a shortcut to the Applications folder, though. You can certainly drag Launchpad into the left side of the Dock from the Applications folder.

  • I am not sure if I changed any settings but our of no where I no longer able to "trash" any email. I tap the trash can but the email reamin in the in box

I am not sure if  I accidently changed any settings but out of no where I am no longer able to "trash" any email from my comcast inbox. When I tap the trash can the email remain in the inbox.

Try a reset. Press & hold the Power and Home buttons simultaneously, ignoring the red power off slider, until the Apple logo appears. Then release both buttons. This should not affect any content on the iPad, it is similar to rebooting your computer.

  • I accidentally removed the trash can from the dock. Where do I find the trash app to put back on the dock

I accidently removed the trash can from the dock. Where do I find the trash app to put back on the dock?

I know this is pretty old but I wanted to add this for anyone else who might come across this thread.
I have PathFinder on my system and there is an option to add the "Remove from Dock" contextual menu items to the Finder and Trash. I accidetally removed the Trash icon, and to get it back do this:
    1. Open Terminal.app from the "Utilities" folder in the main Applications folder. Or simply open Launchpad or Spotlight and start typing Terminal.
    2. Copy and paste the below command exactly, be very careful with Terminal as it can cause terminal damage to your computer if used incorrectly.
    killall Dock
Your Desktop background may flash and the Dock will disappear and will repear after a short pause.
You should now have your Finder and Trash icons back.
    Hope this helps,

I have an iMac purchased in May 2011.  OSX Lion 10.7.3.  I deleted backup file from the external hard drive which operates from Time Machine.
Now, the trash can will not empty some of the files deleted from the backup harddrive.
The trash contains-- File folder: "Core Services" which contains a locked file: "boot.efi".
    It will not delete.
How do I get the trash can empty of these files?

Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?

In mail Snow Leopard, the trash button was red, the unwanted mail orange, there was a type button.  Now the type button is gone, the rest is grey, why?

I mean in OS X Lion of course. Same with Finder window: There used to be a 'Today' option, where has that gone? It was so easy to have an overview of the work you were busy with. Does anybody has a tip?
