Mail will not add passwords

when i try to add passwords for my account in mail preferences they won't stay--i am always prompted to give password each time--when i go back into mail preferences the passwords are not saved, even though i have checked to save them

Open /Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access, choose Keychain First Aid from the application menu, and proceed to repair the keychain. If that doesn’t work, try removing the password entry from the keychain and letting Mail create it again the next time it asks for it.

    Use Keychain First Aid:
Open Keychain Access, located in Applications/Utilities
Choose Keychain Access > Keychain First Aid.
Enter your user name and password.
    Select Repair and click Start.
If any problems are found run again to verify all repaired.
In Mail, when you add the password in the account window, you have to click out of the account to save. When you add the password in SMTP settings it saves automatically.

  • Yahoo mail will not accept password on new iphone 5

Yahoo mail will not accept my password and load e-mails.  What to do?

I e-mailed Yahoo for help with Yahoo mail and was given the following instructions:  Remove Yahoo account from your iPhone, turn the phone off and back on, and then re-add to trigger a re-sync on your Yahoo acccount.  This worked with no problem!!  I was also given a link for a Yahoo Help article which I have included below.  For those of you who are having issues, I hope this solves them!

  • Mail will not retain password

My assistant and I have run mail for a year with no problem until recently. About 2 weeks ago Mail on her iMac OS 10.3.9 would ask for her password approximately every ten minutes. Yesterday my eMac OS 10.3.9 started exhibiting the same behavior. Any solutions?

I'm having the same problem on my G4 with 10.3.9. I had no problems until recently. I have three different mail accounts, and every so often Mail will ask for the password for one or the other account. It doesn't happen every time it checks for mail and not for the same account every time. The message that it gives is:
The POP server “pop.sbcglobal.yahoo.com” rejected the password for user...
For example, I just ran Mail and it checked for mail fine. I then clicked "Get Mail" and one of the three accounts were rejected. I cleared that, clicked get mail, and a different account was rejected. I have run Keychain First Aid a couple of times. This is really weird and frustrating.

  • Mac mail will not add new accounts

    Hi,
Recently I added two new email accounts to my mac Mail
Then the account started acting weird a few days ago—not letting me email myself (to a gmail account), refusing to put the email in the address field.
Thats the email associated with my computer, User ID.
Then it would no longer let me add new accounts in the preferences.
I would click the '+' sign, to add a new account, or choose it from the file options... Nothing. Nothing would happen.
It would let me delete accounts, but not add new ones.
I've tried EVERYTHING to fix this problem. I dragged the mail files out and trashed them, upgraded from snow leopard to lion and tried to reinstall the Mail package software — same problem. Finally, I deleted the user account on my Macbook Air — still the same problem with new Users.
When the Mail application opens, and guides me through the introduction, I can add one email address ONLY, then nothing else.
    What gives?
    Can anyone offer advice?
I have a Macbook Air and Lion, 10.7.

    Does anyone have similar experiences?

I changed my gmail password on the website and now it is asking me for it on my MacBook Air Mail and my Iphone and when I enter the new password it is telling me it is incorrect.
I works at gmail.com - I reset it and it still works at gmail.com and not on my computer or phone.
I deleted my gmail account from my phone and tried to reset it up and it didn't work.

The amount of RAM is not dependant on the operating system. It is all about the model of you Mac.
10.6.8 is the version of OS X that is installed on your system. It has no real baring on the amount of RAM that CAN be installed.
Personally I have never had good luck with Corsair RAM. I have always had good luck with Crucial and Kingston.

  • Mail will not allow me to add a new account.

Mail will not all me to set a an email/note account. The entry fields, ID and password clear onceI press the enter key.

I had tried that previously with no results. So, I changed the password with the provider. Next I resubmitted the ID and password, ignoring the Yahoo button, but instead choosing the Other button. It was successful. Sometimes it's necessary to change the playing field, rather than put up with the potholes. Thanks for your help.

without changing settings, iMac mail V4.6,  1)will not save password   2)takes accounts offline  3)will not except password   4)will not send mail from accounts every time.
What happen?  How do I correct this?

    Hi Nuch1,
I found an article that is contains very thorough Mail troubleshooting steps:
OS X Mail: Troubleshooting sending and receiving email messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3276
You can use that article to figure out what part of the email "ecosystem" is the cause of the issue, and it can also help you attempt to resolve it.
    Hope that helps,

  • Apple Mail will not store my password

10.8.4 Mail will not keep 3 of my account's passwords. They are all IMAP hosted at Dreamhost. I can access them on my iPhone, iPad, and web just fine. I've:
    - rebooted
    - reset the passwords at Dreamhost
    - deleted the accunts from Mail and added them back
    - run the keychain firstaid (no joy). The passowrds do not ever show up in keychain
    The Console continually shows:
9/4/13 10:47:17.197 AM Mail[4619]: Error updating the value of the Internet password for [email protected]@mail.xxxxxxxx.com: -25295
9/4/13 10:47:17.197 AM Mail[4619]: Error finding an Internet password for [email protected]@mail.xxxxxxx.com: -25295
The password field under Mail ->Preferences-> Accounts is blank, even when I retype it, save it, click a different account, and immediately look at the problem account again
The weird part is that my mail comes in sporadically, but then Mail will ask for the password, I key it in, and immediately the same box pops up asking for the password. It's like there is a "glitch" with it saving it into the Keychain, but like I said, Keychain First Aid didn't pick up anything.
    Any thoughts?

    @Eric- Keychain wasn't locked
@Linc- Thanks. I did that and got the following from the Console:
    9/4/13 1:51:17.023 PM com.apple.SecurityServer[16]: Sandbox denied authorizing right      'system.keychain.create.loginkc' by client '/Applications/Mail.app' [336]
    9/4/13 1:51:18.245 PM sandboxd[495]: ([336]) Mail(336) deny authorization-right-obtain      system.keychain.create.loginkc
So i figured that the Keychain was corrupted. I tried FirstAid again, but it didn't flag anything, so I deleted the Keychain file.
Update: Ok, so after resetting the Keychain and getting error messages that the Keychain file was invalid, I figured the file was corrupted. I reset the default Keychain (http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1544) and then ran Keychain First Aid (http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7296) and that fixed it. All of my Keychain passwords are wiped now, but Mail is communicating with Keychain just fine.

    Hi!
I understand that Computer 1 is synced and you see something like this when you access the Sync Tab under Preferences: https://support.mozilla.com/media/uploads/gallery/images/2011-01-27-15-46-25-9c0352.png
And in Computer 2 you get a window similar to this: https://support.mozilla.com/media/uploads/gallery/images/compcode.jpg
But when you click on Add Device the following window doesn't appear: https://support.mozilla.com/media/uploads/gallery/images/2011-01-27-15-46-48-5f59d1.png
Is this correct? If so, please let me know what you see (a screenshot will be handy).
You can also set up the second computer following this instructions: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How%20to%20sync%20Firefox%20settings%20between%20computers#w_what-if-im-not-near-my-first-computer

  • Mail will not accept my apple password since setting up iCloud?

mail will not accept my apple password since setting up iCloud?

    Hi there.
Since my situation is very similar, rather than start a new thread, I wonder if I could jump on this one for some clarification & to see if I'm okay to proceed with the Tiger instructions you posted.
    I'm running 10.4.11 on a 17" Titanium PowerBook G4. I have a .mac e-mail address & I'm using Apple Mail.
I migrated to iCloud several weeks ago & everything's been fine but I haven't been able to get any e-mail through all weekend.
I logged in to iCloud a short while ago & everything seems fine.
So could I ask whether the procedure you linked to works for .mac addresses as well as .me addresses?
Also, can I assume that the messages that are still sitting in my inbox will still be there after I remove the existing account & create the new one, (seeing as they're synchronised with the inbox online), whilst the complex hierarchy of folders I've created locally in the mail client will remain untouched?
    Thanks!

That sounds like a compatibility issue with an add-on that you have installed, as reported by a number of users in both Firefox 22 and Firefox 23 over the last couple of months. If you would provide a listing of your installed extensions ''(as you were prompted to do when creating this thread)'' maybe one of us can advise you which extension is the mot likely culprit. You will need to re-install Firefox 23 to do further diagnostic testing.
As far as the compatibility of Firefox 23 and Win XP SP3, Mozilla has verified they are compatible and not one user ''(including me on two separate PC's)'' has reported a problem with compatibility.

  • Mail will not send mail, only receive.

I have spent the majority of today re-installing OS X and all necessary updates, music, data after the death of a hard drive. Luckily everything went perfectly, except for the same problem I had with Mail even before the 1st hard drive died. Mail will not send mail, only receive.
All efforts time out and give me this message: "The connection to the server mail.earthlink.net on port 25 timed out"
Mail used to send messages, but stopped suddenly in 2004 and has yet to start again. Any idea guys?! I can't figure it out, under Account settings I have necessary fields filled in: Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) is set to "mail.earthlink.net", Server Port is set to 25, and Authentication drop menu is set to None.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    --DANIEL

This is NOT a problem with Mail or OS X. This is an incorrect settings problem - garbage in = garbage out and this information is certainly available at Earthlink's website and Earthlink also provides technical support.
Earthlink has an authenticated SMTP server they changed to long ago.
    SMTP Server: smtpauth.earthlink.net
Server Port: 587 but 25 should work if you are using Earthlink as your internet service provider for connecting to the internet.
Use SSL: Off or not selected.
    Authentication: MD5 Challenge-Response
User Name: Your ENTIRE Earthlink email address.
Password: The account's password - the same password used to check the incoming mail server for new messages.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on some Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
