Mail will not recognize mailboxes backed up before erase and install.
Since my computer was starting to slow down, I figured it was a good time for the old erase and install. Rather than backup the whole "Mail" folder in the library as I should have done, I only backed up the "Mailboxes" and the "POP-address@..." folders. I also backed up the plist folder to go in /preferences/mail.
Now mail won't recognize my old mailboxes. The preferences list clearly worked, and my mailbox folders even appear on the left in mail, but none of my messages are there. When I try to use the "import mailboxes" command in mail, it says that "No valid mail for mac os x were found." The messages are clearly in these folders because if I double click on an individual message, I can see it.
Please help me to get back to my former world. I miss IMAP.

This doesn’t make sense. com.apple.mail.plist, if that’s what you mean, is a file, not a folder, and it should be in ~/Library/Preferences/, not in “/preferences/mail”.

Pay attention to the instructions that Mail displays when choosing Mail for Mac OS X as the data format. In the next step, Mail wants you to select the folder that contains the mailboxes to be imported (i.e. the folder where the .mbox folders to be imported reside), not the .mbox folders themselves nor the Messages folders within them. If you select the wrong folder, Mail says “No valid Mail for Mac OS X files were found” because it cannot find any .mbox folders within the folder you’re selecting.
Yes, sorry, the file is in library/preferences.
Your suggestion about paying attention to the folder that the mailboxes are IN worked like a charm. The only problem is that now I accidentally deleted my trash mailbox and can't figure out how to create a new one.

Thank you !Some things that pop in my head- your CD/DVD drive may need cleaning (laser eye). There are discs to do this or you can use a cotton swab sometimes to wipe the laser. OR- the last recovery may have been the last fatal strain on the CD/DVD drive and it is now not functioning. Maybe you could borrow the drive from the other Dv4 and try it- or borrow/buy a USB CD/DVD drive to try.

TM Not backing up since Erase and Install
I recently did an erase and install and since then TM just says "Preparing" but has not backed anything up. What should I do?
Welcome to the Apple forums:
Until you solve your problem I recommend downloading SuperDuper and cloning your system on a regular basis. If you buy the options, you can have it make regularly scheduled backups. I believe it can share the TM drive, but if yours is nearly full, I suggest getting another external drive for SuperDuper.
Why did you reinstall Leopard? I was under the impression that all you need to do is boot from the Leopard DVD and in the Utility menu restore the previous system. This might be the problem - I don't really know. I also suspect that the interim Tiger install is part of your problem.
If you use SuperDuper and create a bootable clone and test it, then and only then I would suggest erasing your internal HD completely - actually deleting and recreating the partition, and then booting into Leopard DVD and using it to restore your TM system.
Don't do anything without a second backup.

I just added me.com email to my windows live mail. Windows live needs to download the folders before I can read the messages in this account. It goes looking looking for the folders but gets and error message, server has rejected your login for the me account. It will not take my login but I can login through apple. I hope someone can help me get this fixed.

Just started. iphoto will not recognize iphone as a camera
frustrated here. All of a sudden, IPhoto will not recognize my iPhone as a camera and therefore will not upload photos taken on the phone. No settings have been changed. Not sure what to do here.
Got any photos in your camera roll that were emailed to you or saved through safari? If so, try deleting them or emailing them to yourself & then deleting them from your camera roll. See if iphoto will then see your phone.

I just changed my apple ID because I needed to change my e mail account. My new ID updated on all of my devices except for iCloud on my phone. My phone however will not recognize my new Apple ID for iCloud? Any suggestions?
To change the iCloud ID on your phone you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the new ID. If you only changed your ID and didn't create an entirely new ID, you can choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted. Your data will download back to your phone when you sign back in.
Save any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll before deleting the account. Deleting the account deletes the photo stream photos from your phone. -
I Recently got virus on an AOL account that pushes to my ipad. I had to reset my password. I have changed the password on my iPad but it will not recognize it. I keep getting message that username or password is incorrect. I have powered off and back on several times. Any suggestions
Did you check the outgoing mail server setting? Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional. -

My mail will not delete. When I move it to trash and then delete it, within a few minutes it has all bounced back in again. Checked my preference settings and all seems to be in order. Any ideas how to resolve this frustrating problem?
That sounds like a compatibility issue with an add-on that you have installed, as reported by a number of users in both Firefox 22 and Firefox 23 over the last couple of months. If you would provide a listing of your installed extensions ''(as you were prompted to do when creating this thread)'' maybe one of us can advise you which extension is the mot likely culprit. You will need to re-install Firefox 23 to do further diagnostic testing.
As far as the compatibility of Firefox 23 and Win XP SP3, Mozilla has verified they are compatible and not one user ''(including me on two separate PC's)'' has reported a problem with compatibility. -

I have the same problem. The mail app doesn't work properly. Either cannot connected to the server or fail to connect. But the network is totally find and work well as i can open website.

My husband's 3GS IPhone will not recognize a Wi-Fi connection at home or work. We have tried turning it on/off as well as turning airplane mode to on while turning it off then back on again. Can also try powering off the home router, then the phone, and then power up the router wait for the signal and then power up the phone and see if he can connect. -
I installed mavericks today and the mail will not open and just keeps on not responding how do I get it back I have force quit it a number of times now
Open the system menu via Alt+Space or click the Firefox icon on the title bar and see if you can resize that window.
If that works then close Firefox to save that setting.
