Mail Window Changes Size

In using Mail 6.5, I notice that when I open messages to read them more fully rather than just preview, sometimes the window is reduced and moved to the lower left hand corner of the desktop.
I am not using the classic view for viewing emails in the inbox.
There have been other threads where this has been discussed, so not sure if there is a solution.  Any help is appreciated!

Thanks for the help.  I was able to use your suggestion, and quit Mail and then reopen, and the window opened as expected.
However, after I printed an email, the next email I opened, was small and in the lower left of the desktop. So I moved the window and resized and was able to quit mail, and when I opened again, mail window appeared as before.  After I printed again a message, I go the same issue  - window reduced and in lower left of desktop!
Any other ideas?

  • Window changes size after running - Bug?

I have been having an issue (a mildly infuriating one) where my window size changes after running. See images
The window expands by the size of the scroll bars in the x and y axis. It only happens sporadically - I can't figure out a way to predict when it will happen or not.  I'll just be running/stopping the program and then bam! different front panel size.  I've also had it happen on multiple different machines with multiple different programs.  There was no code in any of the programs that resized the FP window.  I know I can force the runtime size with VI properties, but...

I gutted the linked vi (with notes on what was changed) and attached it if you want to try and reproduce it.  After some more playing around with it, I realized it is any time I first open the VI and run it.  It seemed random because the VI was part of a project and I was frequenly opening / closing / running etc.

  • Why are the video player change size when resizing the window a little?

When I use the video player to show mp4 files, the "player window" changes size if I change the firefox window. Why and how do I do to get the correct size direct (640x480)

    Hi john3,
This can be the resolution of the screen or the site detecting screensize, do you have a url we can take a look at to determine what's going on?
    Thank you!

  • I click on a link or start typing text in a box on a webpage, any page, and the browser window either randomly changes size, reduces & goes to the toolbar, or some other strange random thing occurs. Why is this?

Whenever I am using Firefox, when I am on a webpage (any webpage) & I either click on a link in that page, start typing in a box, click on a button, or click on a tab, the browser window either reduces to the toolbar, or just changes size, usually from full-screen to 2/3 of its size. I reinstalled Firefox (downloaded from the web) after wiping my hard drive because I was having so many problems from my browser constantly crashing, to the computer itself crashing often, to the computer running exceptionally slow. At first everything seemed fine. But then after having opened my computer a few times, a few different windows began to freeze, then that stopped, then this thing with the browser started a few times later after opening it. Now it does it every time I open it. Also, whenever I try to click on a button on other windows on my computer, I get the 'warning' sound, nothing happens, then after a couple more tries, the button works. All of this is just weird. I had antivirus protection on my computer, but it apparently did not catch whatever virus infected my computer, or the damage was already done when it did get it. I thought once the hard drive was wiped, that everything would be ok, but then these weird things began to start up, and now I am wondering.... Of course, it could also be something wrong with the browser, too. I've also had some trouble getting my printer to working again, but I've managed to solve that problem.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

When I send or receive e-mail (Thunderbird).....the mail gets changed significantly from its original form.....typestyle, font size, symbols, page layout, color.....everything changes.....is there a way to fix that so my the original form of the mail is not changed?.....

Just to recap, this is a collection of ports I have collected over time for people who needed this information when setting up the HP ePrint app so that they could view their email from within the app.  I am certain other applications also need this information.  Although lengthy, I could not find a more comprehensive place to retrieve this information.  Feel free to post additional information, faulty information, or other related topics below as this is simply a collection of data and it would be practically impossible to test all of them. Thank you!

  • Image size pop up menu missing in mail window

Tonight I was about to resize an attachment (a photo) in the Mail message window, but discovered that the image size pop up menu that used to appear at the bottom of the mail window is no longer there! I tried quitting Mail and launching it again, restarted the computer (a 2003 iMac G4 running Tiger), and repaired permissions. Any ideas on how I might get the image size pop up menu back again? Thanks.

Seems there must be something messed up on the HD.
Very Important, how much Free Space is on your Hard Drive first of all? Click on the Macintosh HD on the Desktop, then do a Get Info on it.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
The important part is to Repair the Disk before Repairing Permissions.

  • How to change size for pop-up history window

    Hello!
I work with PoSH and like use shortcut F7 for access to history powershell commands. But it is very small for my purposes.
Are there way to change size (increase) this window?
    Truly, Valery Tyurin

    Hi Varlery,
I also haven't found a good methad, the explaination below is for your reference:
The command-line buffer retains the last 50 commands by default. You can increase or decrease that setting by editing the properties of the console window itself. Click on the window’s control box and select Properties. Change the size of the “Command History
buffer size” on the Options tab.
This command history is actually separate from Windows PowerShell itself. It’s maintained by the console-hosting application. Windows PowerShell isn’t even aware this exists.
    Refer to:
Windows PowerShell: Those Who Forget History

I'm having the same problem.  I've tried going into the Library and deleting the mail plist file(s), which fixes the problem, but only temporarily.  Would appreciate any help here too!

  • Office for mac  mail window size

I have purchased office for mac from microsoft when I purchased my 2 new imacs. Strangly enough on both imacs the mail window size when dubble clicking on an email only open of half the size of the screen. Going to the bottom right corner and drag the window to open full screen size helps of course but when I leave the program and come back next day the imac doesn't remember this and opens an email again in the size half the screen. I don't have this with the firefox screens...anyone has an idea (is this an office for mac setting or a imac setteng)?
    Thanks you.

imackido, I'm not sure if your issue is with the mail application in Office (Entourage) or whether it's with Mail, the Apple program that's part of Leopard (I suspect it's the latter). I don't use Entourage.
I have this same problem with Leopard Mail, but what I want is to make my window smaller (MBP 15", and the default window size of about half the screen seems to take up too much screen real estate). I can resize the window per message, but each time I open up a new message and/or create a reply message, the darn window is back to 1/2 the screen.
*Is there no way to get Mail to "remember" things like preferred window sizes?*
Minor detail, but really annoying...and it's one of those things that just makes the program that much less good to work with when you have a lot of things going on on the machine at the same time.

  • Main Mail window missing

I can not recall having done any upgrdes or installs at the time of this occurence. When launching mail the main mail window of the app. does not apear. It is listed in the menu's but will not show up when selected. I backed up my messages and deleted all the mail and still nothing. Next I reinstalled the Mail app. package, nothing. Finally I did an arcive and install of 10.4, nothing. I have the same accounts on my PBG4 and there is nothing wrong with it, there were 2000 emails in the combined 3 accounts and I have gottent that down to 400 but nothing has changed. Any thoughts or directions?

The position and size of the window is stored in the preferences file. If there is something wrong with the values stored there, that would explain the problem you’re experiencing. Proceed as follows:
    1. If you have a .Mac account and .Mac synchronization of Mail data is enabled either in Mail > Preferences > General or in System Preferences > .Mac, disable it before proceeding.
    2. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    3. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong while trying to solve the problem. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is stored.
    4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences/. Locate com.apple.mail.plist and move it to the Desktop (to be deleted if this fixes the problem).
    5. Open Mail. You’ll have to set up your non-.Mac accounts from scratch all over again. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don’t. Just enter the account information and Mail will automagically rediscover the data in ~/Library/Mail/ when done.
You’ll also have to re-configure most of your settings in Mail > Preferences. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
You may also need to re-install or re-enable any Mail plug-ins you have installed for Mail to recognize them.
    6. As a side effect of re-creating com.apple.mail.plist, Mail might rename Outbox (which is where messages waiting to be sent are stored) to Delivered. The name of that mailbox is actually a misnomer, as it would contain messages (if any) that couldn’t be delivered for some reason. You can delete that mailbox if you wish.
    7. If the problem is fixed now and .Mac synchronization of Mail data was enabled at the beginning, enable it again, go to System Preferences > .Mac > Advanced, click Reset Sync Data, and choose the appropriate options to reset the Mail data stored on the .Mac server with the data locally stored on the computer, i.e. sync data must flow from the computer to the .Mac server.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

  • Composing e-mail - Font type & size

My apologies if I 'can't see the woods  for the trees'. Must be my age. I'm not sure how to select font type & sizes when composing e-mails. I did have that option but may have inadvertently corrupted it somehow??  It would be ideal if the compose e-mail window was designed exactly similar to the current screen which I'm now using to post this topic. Font Family, Font Size, with drop down selection would definitely help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    No worries donm41,
Sounds like you have it set up in Plain Text format.
    Try this.
To change back to HTML format follow the steps below.
    1) Login and compose an email.
    2) Select the Options menu under the email Subject input box (highlighted with red in the image below)
    3) A drop down menu will appear, go to the Format option and select HTML from the dropdown box. (highlighted with red in the image below)
    4) Click Yes when the Confirm dialog box appears.(highlighted with red in the image below)
The HTML text options should now appear.
    Hope that works.
    Cheers
