Mail won't accept bold, italic, etc.

Does anyone know about this?
OSX 10.4.11
Mail.app 2.1.3 (753.1)
Safari.app 3.1.2 (4525.22)
Thanx, vlerk

There is only one account now, my admin.
That is a *very bad* idea; an invitation to trouble. You should never use the Admin account for any actual work; it should only be used for system administration tasks. By do this, you have left a giant security hole in your system; anyone who may come along can access any file on your Mac, as well as destroy anything at will and wreak havoc with your entire system.
You need to create separate User Accounts for each user; if you're the only user under normal circumstances, you can give your user account Admin privileges, which will allow you to do most system administration tasks from the account, but only after you authorize it with the Admin password, which only you should know.
So it is a macbook-problem.
I doubt it. There's no indication of that yet, so it's something on your MacBook that's causing the problem.
I'm a simple graphic designer.
Which is why you should never use Helvetica for anything, and use Futura or Gill Sans instead.

  • Cannot PREVIEW my eMail before sending; nor can I use BOLD, ITALIC etc.

In the past 3 days: Cannot PREVIEW my eMail before sending; nor can I use BOLD, ITALIC etc.
I can add this: and I think you see the smiley-- but I cannot use the "B" bold button to make a selection of text bold; nor any other features for emphasis-- and cannot even get the Preview window to open.
Is this a technical problem or me?
    Thanks,

This is a known problem, the Hosts are working to fix it. See this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1344112&tstart=0

  • Mail won't accept any commands post IOS 5

Just dopwnloaded IOS5. Now, I can open Mail, it downloads my emails well enough but then it won't accept any interaction.
Really bizarre... Anyone had similar issues?

I just called Bell and we switched Bell to my primary SMTP and my home to the secondary and now I can send email from my iPhone again.
Not sure why this changed with iOS 5.0?

  • Mail won't accept info

    My wife's eMac 700 MHz G4, 768MB SDRAM, running 10.3.9 and Mail 1.3.11 has a problem.
When starting a new e-mail message after entering the recipient's e-mail address Mail will not accept an entry in cc, or bcc, or a subject, or text in the body of the e-mail.
Whichever of these is tried results in the spinning beach-ball.
If she does a Force Quit, then reopens Mail, the same thing happens.I tried to do a restart, but instead of normal startup I got a blue screen and the spinning beach-ball.
I held the power button down to shut the eMac down, then tried to start it up after unplugging the connecting cable from the cable modem. ( that was the only external device connected to the eMac ).
Started fine, then I plugged in the cable modem connector cable and all went well.
However, a few hours later the same thing happened all over again , Mail wouldn't accept anything but the e-mail address.
    Any clues please ?

You insert the CD, then restart with the C key held down. That should force a startup from the optical drive. Once you get to the first Installer screen, go up to the menu. For Panther, the command to run Disk Utility should be under the Installer menu.
Run +Repair Disk+ on the startup disk. If it reports no errors, or error that are fixed, you are good for the disk directory check. You can quit Disk Utility and restart with the normal startup disk.

  • Can't apply bold, italic, etc. in Mail after 10.4.7

After going through some new font follies, running through a MS Office update I'd been putting off, and then running the Tiger 10.4.7 Combo update (PPC), my Mail headers were all funky with a lot of extra spacing. Thanks to a thread here from last year, I figured out that Helvetica was the culprit. My headers are okay now. But I cannot apply boldface or italic to words in my Mail messages--no matter which font I set in Prefs or try to select from the font palette (which doesn't seem to be working at all, if I recall its former behavior correctly).
Does this sound like something that could have been caused by the 10.4.7 update? Anyone know a fix?
I should perhaps mention that this problem is not with my PM G5--it's my Mini at work.

A little more info in case this will help someone help me. What preceded the loss of formatting capability in Mail was that we got some new fonts on our network at the office and I wanted to put them on my Mini. I had never added new fonts under OS X before and I probably went about it the wrong way. I opened Font Book and used the "Add Fonts" command to try to grab the fonts from the network server (without first copying them over in Finder). This seemed to work, except for one font that Font Book warned was corrupted. It didn't add the corrupted font.
But subsequently Microsoft Word went nuts and started throwing "font is corrupted and should be removed" at me for every font I had. Some of my Stickies notes also turned into nonsense characters. I ended up trashing everything in the user/library/fonts folder. I also took everything out of the System fonts folder and put it in a separate folder, except the fonts that are identified as essential in this posting: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=607630
I decided this would be a good time to do software updates I had been putting off, so I first updated Microsoft Office and then updated my system from 10.4.6 to 10.4.7.
The MS Office update fixed the problem with Stickies, for some reason. Maybe it restored a font. After the OS update, everything seemed fine until I noticed the goofy headers in my Mail messages. I fiddled with Helvetica and got that fixed. But I then discovered that I couldn't make anything bold or italic when composing a Mail message (yes, rich text is selected) and couldn't change the font via the font palette, either (although I can still change the base font in Preferences).
FYI, everything else is working fine--Web pages are displaying correctly and all the formatting commands in Word are behaving as they should.
I didn't post this in the Mail forum because I feel this may be only secondarily a Mail problem--that it's primarily either a font or a system update problem.
I'm wondering if I should get Pacifist and try to reinstall my Mail program. Anyone have any ideas now that I have (hopefully) explained this better?

  • Mail won't accept iCloud password

    Hi,
I just switched to iCloud from MobileMe, and my Mail program now tells me that my password is not correct.  I've gone so for as to delete the account and add it again, and it still will not accept the password.  I know the password is correct, it works on this site, as well as directly in iCloud, and on my iPhone, it's only the Mail program that it won't work in.  Are there any fixes for this? I know it's a known issue, I've tried a few of the suggestions I've read on here, but none have worked.
    Thanks!

My password fits the parameters, and I tried to enter in the info you provided, but still no luck.   It's as if the program "forgets" the password I've entered.  Where would I use the TLS option if it's not working?
The TLS option is mainly for the Outlook users (Outlook for Windows), did you enter the account manually or let the autosetup do it?

  • Urgent help needed in Rich Text Functionality in BSP (Bold, Italic, etc)

The standard Appraisal BSP (HAP_DOCUMENT) displays the documents in a plain text box
Scenario - Standard  BSP application HAP_DOCUMENT for appraisals provides users to input in plain text boxes (htmlb textedit)
However, there is requirement to support rich text (bold, italicised, underline etc) for these text boxes. Basically, there are 3 aspects to  this scenario
    1. Enable these plain textboxes with rich text editor
    2. Store the rich text contents of text  boxes in Database table
    3. Convert and display the data stored in db table as rich text.

Note that the previous reference to tokens only applies if the field is a Multiline text field. Regular fields can't change their font or display based upon mapping data.

  • Mail won't accept Gmail Password Since upgrade to Yosemite

    Hello there!
I upgraded my iMac 21.5" (late 2012 model) to Yosemite yesterday and since doing so, I can't get the Mail/Calender app to accept the password for any of my Google accounts.  The password is definitely correct as I've logged in via Safari and also on my iPhone 5S, iPad Air and iPad Mini and it was all working fine prior to installing Yosemite.
I've had a message from google to say that they've blocked the login as I was trying to access through an app that isn't secure it and that I can enable access to insecure apps if I want to - but surely Mail is secure?  It wasn't an issue before, so I'm guessing it is something to do with the Yosemite upgrade but I was just wondering if anyone else is having the same issue and if so, if they fixed it without having to enable the access to insecure apps.

Never mind!  I fixed it, I needed to go into the Mail Connection Doctor, into each account and then update both the password and the outbound SMTP server which was sent as "Gmail (offline)" to just "Gmail" and everything seems to be working.

  • MAIL won't accept correct password

When trying to open my register.com POP email account in MAIL, I am prompted to enter my account password (even though it is already entered in the Mail Account set-up). After entering the password, MAIL tells me that the POP server rejected the password - even though when I access my email account through a browser, the password works fine.

    Greetings,
It sounds as though your Keychain may have a corrupt entry. If so, you can fix it like this:
    Quit Mail if it's running.
Open Keychain Access > Passwords > Internet and scroll through the list until you find the entry for that mail account and delete it. Quit Keychain Access.
Restart Mail and enter the password for that account when asked, and check the box to save it in the Keychain. If all goes well, it will accept it.

  • E mail won't accept password

My e mail provider direcway.com was purchased by hughes.net and I am being "forced" to change my e mail address. I managed to follow there twisted instructions and set up my new account on the web and to get my old e mails forwarded to my new e mail account...but only when accessed via the web. When I try and use my e mail account thru the dock i keep getting an error message that my password is wrong. My passwords have not changed. The help line for the new provider is impossible to deal with and I would have to take a leave of absence from my job just to sit on the phone all day. Any suggestions?

Did you remember to change the ISP settings and account name in your mail program? (I hope this doesn't come off as a dumb question --- it's the kind of thing that's easy to overlook when you're focused on getting the network settings changed over.)

  • Mail won't accept password

No matter how many times I type the correct password to my email account in mail I constantly receive this message:
+The POP server “mail.xxxx.com” rejected the password for user “yy”+
Why is this? I'm just trying to set up my account for the first time in Mail.
I had too many problems with Mail in 10.3 and 10.4, so I just used Entourage with this specific email account and it worked fine.

    Why is this?
    Some operator error
Could be any of lots of things including:
    -incorrect password
-wrong case of one or more letters (most passwords are case sensitive)
    -incorrect account name
    -some ISP issue
-others I have not thought of
Be assured that Mail does work and literally millions of people are successfully using it so the problem is either with you or with your ISP

  • In mail, how do you increase font sizes in a reply.  Cannot find things like "underline", "italic" etc either.  Where are they?  Entourage was easier!!

Preferences/Compsing/set to Rich Text (only then you can use bold etc).
Then Rightclick the toolbar in Mail, and clcik Customize the toolbar.
Put the icons (with or without text) that you want on your toolbar.
