Mail won't bring in new .mac mail

The application Mail won't bring in new mail but it shows up on .mac webmail. Any suggestions?

Have you confirmed if the account is online?
At the menu bar, go to Mailbox > Online Status. Is "Take (the name of your .Mac account) Online available?
Do you perform manual checks for new mail on occasion? The reason I ask, is your .Mac account included to be automatically checked for new mail?
Since you are accessing your .Mac account as a .Mac account which is really an IMAP type account and behaves in the same way, have you tried using the Rebuild Mailbox function on the account's Inbox mailbox which forces the mailbox to be resynchronized with the server?

  • Transferring Mail and Address Book to new Mac

I am buying a new Intel Mac and want to transfer over my mail and address book - how can I do this and be sure it works properly. I don't want to do the wholesale fire-wire transfer thing because I have had a lot of conflicts on my old mac and don't want to bring the problems over to the new mac. Just want to transfer mail, address book, tunes, photos and a few documents. Can you help?

    Jeff,
Welcome to Discussions. I'm no expert, but try this for email:
Copy the folder 'Mail' found here: Users/your name/Library/Mail
Then go to your new Mac and drag and drop the 'Mail' folder to the same location and hit 'Replace'. This will copy all your mail accounts as well as any mail/sent/drafts/trash/junk and anything else in your old Mac email app. Just make sure you haven't downloaded any new mail (unless it was left on the seerver) to your new Mac. After you replace the 'Mail' folder, any mail already on your new email app will be replaced.
    For Address Book:
Copy the folder 'AddressBook' found here: Users/your name/Library/Application Support/AddressBook
Again, do the same thing and drag and drop the copy to your new Mac. Same deal if you have already added new addresses to your new Mac. If you replace the new 'AddressBook' with the old, you will erase any address that were already on there.
Another way to copy both of these items is to subscribe to .Mac and do a sync (easiest method). It's $99 a year and it can really help with syncing your iCal, Safari bookmarks and Keychains (stores passwords on your Mac) also. There is a 60 trial, so you can do all this stuff for free for a limited time.
    Enjoy your new iMac,

  • Can't change font/column size in new .Mac Mail & 3-Pane option is a Pain!

My new .mac mail doesn't seem to allow changes in column width or in font size so it ends up cutting off the bottoms of some letters and cuts off all the entries in the 'From', 'Subject' and 'Date' columns. Also, it seems that because of this stubborn formatting, the "Action" button is not on the same line as the other buttons such as "Delete" or "Reply" etc. The "Action" button is on the next line and partially covers up the word "From" and the address of the first email in the column. Preferences doesn't seem to have anything for changing sizes or column widths.
Also, when I use the "3 Panes" option from the preferences in .mac mail I'm supposed to be able to compose a new email in the bottom pane but when I click on "New" to write a new email, it opens up a completely different window to compose the new email.
So can anyone help me with these two issues? I would really appreciate it. I liked the old email the way it was but I guess that's no longer an option. Thanks,
    Steve

For some reason my Yahoo mail won't loand on my Mac, though it will automatically on my i-phone and i-pad. Always has done before, just seems to have stopped. Any ideas?

    Hello Kathleen,
If you are using Mail for your Mac, then check out the article below to assist with getting it sorted out. Start with looking at the Connection Doctor to see why you are not able to get your emails. Let me know what you find.

  • New Mac Mail but not yet in dock

Hi, I wonder if you can help?
I have logged into the new new .Mac Mail and have found it on the whole, a great improvement. I know this must sound a silly question but how I can I get the new version of .Mac Mail in my dock so I can access it quickly? When I click on the 'old' Mac Mail icon (stamp with an eagle on it), it just reverts to the old, 'unimproved' version of .Mac Mail.
Look forward to your replies. Thanks
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You seem to be confusing Mail (the email client application) with .Mac, a suite of services including an email account that can be accessed either with Mail or with a browser (web mail). Mail has not changed. The web mail interface of .Mac has, so to access it, you must use a browser like Safari.
If you want rapid access to the web mail portal from the dock, you can put a web internet location file there that "points" to the portal: once the web page is visible in your browser, drag the icon just to the left of the web address in the browser toolbar (it will start with http) onto the dock, in the area near the trash & any other document files you have there. They will move aside & allow you to drop the icon into the dock.
To access .Mac web mail quickly, just click on this icon. Your browser will launch & take you to the same page.

Other users have been reporting Yahoo mail problems that are not iPad problems. Might be something to try on these links.

  • My new Mac Mail is losing the ability to send emails periodically. It's running on 10.6.7 /new iMac. What's happening?

My new Mac Mail is losing the ability to send emails periodically. It's running on 10.6.7 /new iMac. I can reset the account by going into Prefs, then first deleting the account and then adding a new SMTP account back. Then sending emails works for a while, until the next time. What's happening?

Ah! Unfortunately, I'm on a company computer and can't just try these things myself. If that's the issue, I can ask our admins and they'll do it, but I want to make sure I've exhausted anything that could be a small fix.
Is that a shot in the dark, or are you thinking there's a reason a clean install is the solution? Thanks for the help.

  • I cannot use new mac mail

I am on 10.4.8 but cannot use the new mac mail. It say I need 10.3.9?
But when I try to load this it will not accept it.

    It say I need 10.3.9?
    What says this?
Are you referring to the Mail.app under Tiger or the
    new .Mac account webmail interface?
If the Mail application, you cannot use Panther's
Mail.app with Tiger just as you cannot use Tiger's
    Mail.app with Panther, etc.
More detailed information is required regarding
"cannot use the new Mac Mail".
    I have mac 10.4.8 but sfari 1.2.4?
The new mail needs Safari 1.3 but not sure if I missed the update or if I need to reload?
Can I load the mac disc and then just do the combined update?

In the new .Mac mail preferences, the two-pane view uses the same window to view the message list, view a message, or compose a new message.
Can I do this with Mail (2.1) on my mac, or is it just a .Mac feature?

Can I do this with Mail (2.1) on my mac,
No. This is a feature of the webmail. There's really no direct connection between the capabilities of Mail and what you might be able to do using a browser with a webmail service.

  • "Open link in new tab" not working with Safari and new Yahoo Mail won't open in new tabs.  Yahoo says it is a Safari issue.  I don't think so.

    Any ideas?
Works fine in classic Yahoo mail.  But in the "new" Yahoo mail, there is not even an option to open in new tab when I right click the message to be opened.  Interestingly enough, I can right click open to new tab on any other link on the same page that the emails are listed in.
Anyone encounter this?  Have a solution?
    Thanks.

From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset.
If that didn't help, try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
    Quit Safari.
Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. Try Yahoo / tabs. If it functions as it should, move the .plist file to the Trash. Otherwise move it back to the Preferences folder.
And check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. If you have any installed, turn that off, quit then relaunch Safari. Try again.

I have business e-mail accounts that "push" to my mac mail.  do I lose this ability with iCloud?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
No, using an iCloud email account will not affect any other mail account you have in your mail application. You can continue to use them as you have always done.

  • Embedding a hyperlink in a New Mac Mail message

I know about Edit -> Add Hyperlink. But I'm astonished that dragging a favicon from a browser into the text area of a new message just drags the "dead" text --- furthermore, under certain circumstances, if you select the dead text, then Edit Hyperlink, an old, stale, inappropriate URL may be still be in the Edit Hyperlink box.
This is a recipe for creating misleading/phishing links.
Am I missing something? Is there an easier way to get a live URL into a Mac Mail message?
    Thanks .. cb

Gentoo, that does the trick nicely! A simple double click of the folder name does indeed bring up the text box for editing.
A big thank you for pointing that out, and i am sure there will be others wondering the same thing, so hopefully they will see your answer.
Sorry for delay in answering, i had not subscribed to the thread thinking that there was no way of doing it, so another thanks for sending me the pm letting me know you had answered.
    Cheers,
    Steve.

  • Sent e-mails offline when moving to new Mac

    Hello
I recently upgraded to a new MacBook Pro, after my Powerbook started having problems.
One of faults it developed was that the Firewire port no longer worked. So, I couldn't use the Migration application.
After a lot of messing around, I managed to get everything up and running on the new Mac, except for the fact that all my sent messages now bring up the message: "The message from ... concerning “...” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.
I've seen for this site that it is because of an overstuffed mailbox, and have gone through the steps to try to retrieve them, but to no avail.
The messages are still on the old Mac. What's the best way to get them onto the new Mac (I really need them for reference), and is there a neat archiving system?
Thanks in advance for any help!

    Saul,
This message is the result of an indexing issue, and not from being Offline or the absence of the message data. Open this mailbox and click on Mailbox in the menubar, and choose Rebuild. Wait patiently for Rebuild to finish, and be aware that if you are seeing the list of messages, that list may temporarily disappear, be returning. If only this one mailbox is the problem, then Rebuild will resolve the problem with the index.
I cannot tell how you proceeded to migrate the Mail folder assests, so there may be other problems. In Mail 2.x, there is one index for all mailboxes, and all movement of messages and mailboxes must take place in the Mail application itself to keep the index current. Rebuild will take care of individual mailboxes, but sometimes we must recommend a more global reindexing -- stay in touch and report progress.

  • Mail Won't Send with New WiFi

Just switched internet providers. Internet and incoming mail work fine, but outgoing messages won't send. My outgoing mail server is my sever at work. How do I get my messages to send?

You should post this to the Mail forum under Mac OSX 10.6.
There are literally dozens of things that need to be done to fix this, up to and including your new internet provider blocks SMTP mail servers.

  • Migrate Apple Mail and iTunes to a new Mac

A friend df mine has a macBook Pro 2009 and now has bought a MacBook Por Retina.
As the old AMcBook pro is full of problems on system level I offered to help him with th emigration of some of his old data to the new machine. iPhoto data is no problems as I know which files to copy but hesitate on Apple Mail and iTunes.
I read this extensive manual http://macs.about.com/od/usingyourmac/ss/moving-apple-mail_4.htm#step-heading but it tells me also to copy the old keychain data, which is corrupt and even Key Chain First iAd can't solve.
Is it possible yo only copy Username/Library/Mail and the com.apple.mail.plist file in Username/LibraryPreferences ?
On iTunes I have want to follow theses steps to have his iPad and iPhone sync on the new Mac
    1) Make sure that iTunes is not running on both Macs.
    2) Disconnect your iPhone/iPod from both Macs.
    3) Copy your iTunes folder: /Users/username/Music/iTunes
    4) Copy your iPhone/iPod backups: /Users/username/Library/Application Support/MobileSync
    5) Copy your iTunes configuration files: /Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes*
    6) Open iTunes on your new Mac and verify that Applications and Ringtones appear.
    7) Connect your iPhone/iPod to the new Mac and accept any new authorizations.
    8) Use iTunes on your old Mac to de-authorize the computer.
Your help and advice is appreciated

Is it possible yo only copy Username/Library/Mail and the com.apple.mail.plist file in Username/LibraryPreferences ?
Yes. You'll need to reenter the passwords for the mail accounts.
    Your iTunes plan looks good.
