  • Mail won't relinquish default mailer status

Eudora has been my default mailer for many years. Yet after the last Safari update a few days ago, the browser suddenly ignores Eudora's default status although it is clearly checked in Eudora's preferences. Instead, Safari thinks Mail is my default mailer. So I dutifully open Mail (I never use it on this machine) and check its preferences, which mysteriously assign it as default mailer. I change that setting to Eudora. The next time I click an email link in Safari, Mail pops up again as the default mailer. If I check both email client preferences at that point, both are set to be my default mailer even though I changed Mail to NOT be so. I have tried rebuilding Safari's .plist file and emptying Safari's cache, but it still recognizes Mail as the default mailer. I have also tried a Mail .plist reset, but that did not change the behavior.
How can I stop Mail from making itself the default mailer?

I too have a similar problem. It seems that everybody who upgraded from an Exchange IMAP account has no problem setting the priority of their emails. Anyone who created a brand new Exchange account in Apple Mail from scratch, however, is in capable of setting the priority of their emails. I post this because I'm an administrator of the Macs at my school's library, and this is a very irksome problem for some. Please fix soon.

  • Mac Mail won't send .mac mail

All of a sudden Mac Mail won't send mail from my .mac account through it's mail server even though the MobileMe sends mail just fine.
Anyone know what may be up?
I hate using the mobile me mail.

I experienced the same problem--unable to SEND mail using MobileMe server. Changed to port 587, now seems to work (cross fingers).
I also noticed that I cannot change the incoming mail server name from "mail.mac.com" to "mail.me.com." When I try to change then save, it reverts to "mail.mac.com."
By the way, under the "Advanced" menu, can anyone explain "IMAP Path Prefix"? It's blank by default, I gather. Why might someone use a prefix here? Also the default port is 143 and the "Use SSL" block is unchecked.
    Merely curious.

  • Read E-Mail Actionblock -Unable to read mail from Mailserver

    Hi,
As a part of business requirement I need to write a transaction which picks the attachment from a particular mail on a server on a scheduled basis.
I am getting the below error while trying to connect to the server
[INFO ]: ReadMail: Connecting To: xxxx.yyyy.mycompany.com
[ERROR]: ReadMail error: Connect failed; nested exception is: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect+
[ERROR]: ACTION FAILED: End Action ReadMail_0 :
But with the same credentials I am able to send mail from xMII using the Send mail action block. So this signifies that I am using the right MailServer name.
Is this the problem with the firewall with the server ? or
Will there be different MailServer name for receiving and reading mails?
How to know which port number to be used?
Did any one faced this problem before?
    Appreciate your help
    thanks
    Raj

    Hi,
Im also having problems with reading mails from mailserver.
When I execute the transaction the action block Read Mail return me the following error:
[ERROR] [ReadMail]Unable to read mail Exception: [unicode-1-1-utf-7]
    Could anybody help me?
P.S.: Im using the imap4 protocol.
    Thank you!

  • Apple Mail won't retrieve new mail from Yahoo IMAP

I've been using Apple Mail with my Yahoo/Rogers account via IMAP for months with no problems.
Starting a few weeks ago, new mail in the Yahoo Inbox does not get delivered to Apple Mail.
I know there's lots of new mail - I logged into mail.yahoo.com with Safari, and see lots of unread messages in the inbox.
It's not a password problem.  The Connection Doctor shows 'green':  access to both the IMAP and SMTP servers is successful.
I have many other IMAP folders configured, and they all sync fine between Yahoo and the Mac.
Apple Mail is configured to use imap.mail.yahoo.com, port 993 with SSL.
    I've tried:
    - rebooting the iMac.
    - quitting/restarting Apple Mail
    - taking account offline, then back on-line.
    - Ctrl-clicking on the Inbox and forcing it to Synchronize "Yahoo Mail".
    - calling Apple. I spent an hour on the phone with a pleasant tech there. He concluded it's a Yahoo problem.
I found one thing that fixed it temporarily: last week I deleted my e-mail account from Apple Mail. Of course, this deleted all my mailboxes in Apple Mail. Years of messages vanished.  Then I quit Mail, restarted it, and configured it anew with my Yahoo account credentials.  Mail then proceeded to log on to the Yahoo server and sync everything over IMAP. It took quite a while (over an hour), but eventually everything in my Inbox, Sent folder, and a couple dozen folders ('mailboxes') of saved messages reappeared. Including all the unread mail that had been waiting on the Yahoo mail server.
That was a week ago, and my Apple Mail inbox had receiving new e-mail with no problems until two days ago. Once again, new incoming messages are not getting synced. This 'fix' (delete all messages and resync from scratch) is not a practical solution.
    Any ideas?
(iMac has 10.8.5. Mail is 6.6)

    @riiich,
As I last reported, I temporarily 'fixed' it by deleting the account from Apple Mail and creating it again. Thanks to IMAP, Mail then synced all the mail folders (took a couple of hours - I have a lot of mail folders), and then it was working again.  For a few days.  Then the problem returned - new mail arriving in my Yahoo Inbox would not sync to the Inbox in Apple Mail.
I spent hours trying to resolve it. Changed password. Rebuilt Mail's index. Ran Disk Utility on my hard drive. Etc. Etc. I have a lot of server-side folders (>30), and thought that maybe Apple+Yahoo were screwing up due the large number of folders (a.k.a. mailboxes) to sync.  So I migrated a lot of the folders off the server (setting up new mailboxes On The Mac) in which to file my messages.  That didn't help. Meanwhile, I started using Yahoo's webmail interface so I could get my new mail.  Then one morning (perhaps a week later), the inbox spontaneously started syncing again. I had done nothing the day before - it just started working overnight.
Based on this experience, I concluded that the F***-up is entirely on the Yahoo side and has nothing to do with my Mac nor Apple's software. My ultimate fix has been to abandon Yahoo Mail.  Prior to Christmas, I moved my mail account to another service provider who provides IMAP. Then configured my Yahoo account to forward all incoming mail to the new server (which has a new e-mail address). Since doing so, I've had zero problems. All messages sent to my old Yahoo address get immediately forwarded to the new mail server, which has been syncing to Apple Mail with no problems at all.

  • E-Mail won't send my mail from GMail account

My e-mail keeps on telling me that it can't send e-mails from my GMail account and it's the primary account I use for sending e-mails. Please, tell me what do i have to do in order to be able to send e-mails from my Maill app on my iMac?
    photo: http://cl.ly/image/2j1s0h2d1H18

The error message says that you don't have an outgoing mail server selected. Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and select the gmail account in the left hand panel. Next go to "Outgoing Mail Server" :
It should read smtp.gmail.com if you are using pop. If it is blank click on it and it should display whatever outgoing servers you have configured. If the only option you have is to "Edit SMTP Server List" then you need to enter the information as shown below.
These are the standard settings for gmail pop:
You will also need to set password authentication on your outgoing (SMTP) mail as shown below:

  • Mail won't delete e-mail from originating POP account

I have several pop3 e-mail accounts set up in Mail. Messages are retrieved perfectly, but though I delete them in Mail they remain in the original account (ie: optonline). I need to then log into the pop3 account and delete them again in order to empty the originating mailbox.
    IMac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Advanced tab for the account preferences, is "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message" selected and if so, what is your selection below for removing messages from the server when downloaded by the Mail.app?

  • Mail won't display HTML mails

I am having the problem that mail does not display HTML mails properly but shows them als plain text. Well, at least kind of. I went through all settings in Mail and Safari and whatever I might think of but no success.
Not even HTML mails from Apple are displayed correctly.
    Any idea what could wrong?

I find this kind of funny because I just turned off all HTML in Mail on purpose with a Terminal command.
Has anyone else been messing with your computer?
I don't have the Terminal commands to redo HTML here at the office , will have to wait until I get home, but if you trash the preferences for Mail that should fix it.
Quit Mail then go to user/Library/Preferences and delete com.apple.mail.plist
Then restart Mail and see what happens.
There is another one with the same name in /Library/Preferences that you can trash as well if that doesn't work but it's most likely your user preference. If no one was messing with your computer probably just a corrupt preference because there is no way to turn HTML off in Mail other than through a Terminal command line that changes your user preference file. You can't have done it by accident.

  • IOS 7 flagged mail won't clear

Just updated to 7. The flagged message count is wrong. Seems like it is still counting flagged messages that have been deleted. Is there a way to clear the count?

I did everything and the flagged count went to zero. However, when I go to all inboxes and "flag all", the count in my flagged box goes to 1400, even though in total, I only have 5 emails.  Where are the other 1395 emails? It's annoying that Apple can't count.

  • TIGER MAIL WON"T IMPORT MY MAIL WHEN IT STARTS UP ON MY NEW MAC...

It sticks when saying 'IMPORTING DRAFTS' (my mail account)
    Importing 0 of 3017 messages.

    Hi Rob.
The conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.x is broken. Take a look at the following thread to better understand the problem:
Help! "You need to take this account online in order to download it."
More specifically, if this is a POP account, the following procedure should allow you to fix the Inbox problem. A similar procedure should allow you to fix other mailboxes that might also be affected. If the problematic mailbox in your case is Drafts, for example (do you really have 3000+ drafts?), just apply the procedure to Drafts.mbox instead of to INBOX.mbox:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong while trying to fix the problem. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is stored.
    3. Create a new folder on the Desktop and name it however you wish (e.g. Inbox Old). It doesn’t need to have an .mbox extension.
    4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/.
    5. Move the files mbox and Incoming_Mail out of INBOX.mbox, into the Inbox Old folder just created on the Desktop. These files contain all the messages that were in the mailbox before the upgrade to Tiger, and maybe even some messages that had been deleted. mbox is the most important. Incoming_Mail may or may not be present.
    6. Move any strangely-named Messages-T0x... folders to the Desktop (not into the Inbox Old folder). These folders are to be deleted after fixing the problem. They are temporary folders created during an import or an indexing process, and Mail should have deleted them when done. Their presence is a clear indication that something didn’t work as expected. If you’ve been using Mail after the conversion and have already tried to fix the problem by rebuilding the mailbox or something like that, they might contain messages that are neither in Messages proper nor in the mbox file, so keep them around until the problem is fixed.
    7. Move everything else within INBOX.mbox, except the Messages folder, to the Trash.
The result of the above should be that INBOX.mbox contains the proper Messages folder only, and the Inbox Old folder on the Desktop contains the mbox and Incoming_Mail (if it exists) files only. Now, proceed as follows:
    8. Open Mail.
    9. The account’s Inbox should properly display in Mail as many messages as *.emlx files are in ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/INBOX.mbox/Messages/. If that’s not the case, select the mailbox in Mail and do Mailbox > Rebuild.
    10. In Mail, do File > Import Mailboxes, choose Other as the data format, and follow the instructions to import the Inbox Old folder that’s on the Desktop.
As a result of doing the above, some messages may be duplicated now. Andreas Amann’s Mail Scripts has a Remove Duplicates script that you may find useful for that.
Do with the imported mail whatever you wish. You may move the messages anywhere you wish and get rid of the imported mailboxes afterwards.
If all is well and you don’t miss anything, the files on the Desktop can be deleted, although you may want to keep them for a while, just in case.
You may want to take a look at the following article (also referenced in the thread I mentioned at the beginning of this post) to learn what you might have done before upgrading to minimize the risk of this happening, and what you may do after fixing the problem to avoid similar issues from happening in the future. DON’T do now what the article suggests, though, as that would make things worse in the current situation:
    Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty
Ask for any clarifications or if you need further assistance.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • My Mail won't send e-mails.

Seems to be since the last Lion update?  Was working fine and I haven't changed anything.  Still receives, but won't send.   I did double check the account, but it seems to be right.  I did connection doctor- it shows 2 accounts (same name) though I only have one??  One connects and the other doesn't. Help...

    Becky,
Check your smtp server and check if your password is added. After ungrading Mail might have lost the password.

  • Mail won't connect to mail servers

This has happened before and my only solution was to reset the iPod.
I'm connecting to .Me and Comcast mail. The iPod tries and tries and won't connect. It worked fine just the other day and I believe it was working fine after the upgrade to 2.0.2. Mail would download very quickly.
Anyone else run into this? The Mail app just sits and spins and won't ever connect. I'll be restoring the iPod tonight but this is very frustrating.

My iPod Touch with latest software upgrade simply won't connect to my POP Mail Servers to retrieve mail. Oddly, I can send messages using the same Servers! GMAIL work fine.
I have deleted and recreated the account definitions many times and reset the iPod. I know the entered details (password etc) are correct.
It worked a month or so ago but has always been intermittent - I am sure this is a bug in the Mail application.
What is strange is that the SSL and Port Number keep getting changed after I set them to the correct settings. If I change them back they eventually change again to (SSL=Yes and some other Port Number).
This is my first Apple device and, while it is a great piece of hardware, the software reliability and support leaves me wondering why everyone has been panning Microsoft all these years.

  • Mail won't send and mail disappears

When I receive emails they sometimes disappear before I can open them. Not all of them, just some. This happens most obviously when I use my iPhone to access mail. Now, sometimes when I write an email it disappears when I hit "send". When they disappear they're gone. Not in the trash, not in the junk. What's going on?

    Rudegar
I probably phrased my question wrong.....I just meant I use imap verses pop.
When I go into SMTP settings, it has "optional" password, which is supposed to solve the issue
with not being able to send emails, but no matter how many times I enter it and save the settings, it's gone when I go back in (because the emails still won't send).
    And other ideas?

  • Mac Mail won't fetch new mail NOT GMAIL

I'm having a frustrating issue with mac mail?  I've been using mac mail for year with my work account with NO issues.
For some reason all of the sudden when I hit the "Get Mail" button or when it automatically checks for mail it is not pulling in my new messages.
IF I use the "synchronize "account" or if I close and re-open mac mail, or if I take account offline then back online it WILL pull in my new messages.
I think this is the same issue they were having with gmail?  This seems to have stated when the new mac mail update came through on Friday.  It seems like it fixed gmail but messed up something else?
Is anybody else seeing this issue?  Is there anything I can do to fix it or will there be yet another fix?  I'm trying ot rebuild my e-mail account now.
    Jason

i'm having this same issue. mail 'dings' indicating there is new mail, but it does not appear. i can find it at the .mac site however... it will arrive in my mail inbox some hours later...
