"Mail" won't Connect

Recently 'repaired permissions'. When opening Mail, 'keychain' now asks for password. This can tend to get annoying so I set (within iTools I believe) the preference to not ask for password everytime I connect to mail. Now 'Mail' won't connect at all. Okay if I go to .Mac. Just won't connect from my comp.
Trying to get things back they way they were. Excuse my ingnorance on what should be a relatively simple app.

Any error message provided and if so, what?
It isn't Mail but the account or accounts not connecting to the incoming mail server. How many accounts are you accessing with the Mail.app and the type - .Mac, IMAP or POP?

  • Apple Mail won't connect to GoDaddy pop server

    Hi all,
I have entered all the correct server information to connect to GoDaddy's pop server but Mail won't connect. I can connect to the smtp server without a problem. The same settings work perfectly in Entourage, so my information is correct. Has anyone else experienced this issue and fixed it?
    Here are the settings:
    POP: pop.secureserver.net
    AUTHENTICATION: password
    Thanks,
    John

Mine stopped wotking on the 9th, under the mail app on the left hand side, if you have triangles with ! marks in them, perform a left click and start "Mail Connection Doctor" This may help pinpoing the issue.
Mine is failing at trying to connect on port 143.
This worked for me, go the accounts settings window and in each gmail account enter the following info
    Advanced Tab
    IMAP Path Prefix enter [Gmail]
If you then tick "Use SSL" this should make the port 993
Authentication shold be set to "password"
Then save these settings, finally email is received, hope this helps.
Let is know how you get on.

  • My nokia e mail won't connect to server

My nokia e mail won't connect to server please help i've tried everything i know

    Thanks for your response.
I did that already.  I did the full maintenance treatment:  Disk Warrior, followed by Applejack AUTO (which does a permissions repair and caches clean), followed by three PRAM zaps.
In accordance with Murphy's Law, it started working again about the time your post came in, but it had been hours of it not working after running the aforementioned gauntlet.
I have my doubts whether it will keep working.  Meantime, Mail is humming along on my MBP.  If you have any other ideas, I'd love to see them!
    Cheers,
    Jim

  • Mail won't connect to iCloud, goes offline

Mail has been problematic. Once a day it will not download emails from the servers, and all accounts will go offline. A restart of Mail solves this, but why does it happen? Aslo, Mail won't connect with iCloud, with the password not being accepted both in Mail and in the System Preferences. However, the password does work with accessing iCloud via browser. How would I fix this?

Apparently NO ONE knows how to fix this problem.  I've scoured the posts on the Apple discussions and a lot of people have this problem, but no one can solve it.  And ANY suggestions are always the ones that we all know how to try anyway.  Never anything new.  No one can solve the problem and obviously Apple doesn't give a rat! They never help either.  I see a LOT of posts with a QUESTION, and no one answers them.

  • TS3276 the connec doctor sr but mac mail won't connect?

How do you connect to gmail in mac mail when the connection doctor says the connection was successful to the server but mac mail won't connect even after re-inputting the password?

mac mail won't connect to the Comcast POP or smpt servers
So your saying that you have comcast at home and it works fine from this machine?
If you mail works fine at home, then if it doesn't work on the road, it most likely isn't your machine.  It is some other problem:
    -- with the other network
-- perhaps comcast is preventing foreign mail from working.

  • Mail won't connect in certain cases

If I open the Mail app "too early" after starting up my Mac it won't connect to any of my email accounts. The connection doctor says that Mail was able to connect to the internet. Despite this, it won't work in any way, if not after restarting the Mac, as logging out and back in won't help at all.
Even if I leave its window open and, when shutting down, I select to re-open the windows when logging back in the issue will show up.
    Annoying!
My Mac is up-to-date, so, please don't tell me to investigate problems that do not exist. I rather reckon that this issue is connected to a bug than to any bad action I may take, as I just click on the Mail like I ever did before icon and that's it. I also already sent a feedback to Apple about this.

    Hey there Streeme,
It sounds like Mail is not connecting to any of your Mail servers at all. Thanks to the screenshot you posted of the Connection Doctor, I recommend this info from the following article, named:
OS X Mail: Troubleshooting sending and receiving email messages
Click here if a "Could not connect to this (server type) server…" message appears
    Check for third-party firewall software
Third-party firewall software, such as Little Snitch or Symantec Norton Personal Firewall, could be blocking the necessary ports. If such software is installed, make sure the firewall is not blocking these ports:
ports 25, 465, and 587 (for sending email via SMTP)
ports 143 and 993 (if you use IMAP email)
ports 110 and 995 (if you use POP email)
If you're not sure how to enable the correct ports, try disabling the third-party firewall completely, then test for the Mail issue. Note: The Mac OS X v10.6 firewall does not interfere with ports needed to send email.
Check for Internet Service Provider port blocking
Your Internet Service Provider may be blocking the SMTP ports needed to send email.
You can use Apple's MobileMe service to find out if your Internet Service Provider is blocking the sending email protocol SMTP:
    Open Network Utility.
    Click the "Port Scan" tab.
Enter "smtp.me.com" in the "Enter an Internet or IP address to scan for open ports" field.
Enable "Only test ports between _ and _", and enter 25 for both port fields.
    Click "Scan" to test.
If you do not see "Open TCP Port: 25 smtp", contact your Internet Service Provider or visit their support website for further assistance. If you do see "Open TCP Port: 25 smtp", your Internet Service Provider is not blocking the SMTP ports needed to send email. Go to the "'Trying to log in to this (email server provider name) account failed…' message or any other error message appears" section below if the email issue persists.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling

  • Apple Mail won't connect to Gmail

My Apple Mail 4.5 has been working fine up until a couple of weeks ago.  I don't know what happened, but now it won't connect to Gmail.  It says something like port 993 time out?  I've been searching online to find solutions, but none of them seems to work.  I can still log in thru webmail and I've already checked to see if my POP and IMAP are enabled in Gmail settings.  Please help Apple Geniuses.  Thanks.

  • Mail won't connect to mail servers

This has happened before and my only solution was to reset the iPod.
I'm connecting to .Me and Comcast mail. The iPod tries and tries and won't connect. It worked fine just the other day and I believe it was working fine after the upgrade to 2.0.2. Mail would download very quickly.
Anyone else run into this? The Mail app just sits and spins and won't ever connect. I'll be restoring the iPod tonight but this is very frustrating.

My iPod Touch with latest software upgrade simply won't connect to my POP Mail Servers to retrieve mail. Oddly, I can send messages using the same Servers! GMAIL work fine.
I have deleted and recreated the account definitions many times and reset the iPod. I know the entered details (password etc) are correct.
It worked a month or so ago but has always been intermittent - I am sure this is a bug in the Mail application.
What is strange is that the SSL and Port Number keep getting changed after I set them to the correct settings. If I change them back they eventually change again to (SSL=Yes and some other Port Number).
This is my first Apple device and, while it is a great piece of hardware, the software reliability and support leaves me wondering why everyone has been panning Microsoft all these years.

  • Mac mail won't connect to internet

Just last week, Mac Mail account won't connect to the internet, even though Mail shows connected when I run the Mail Connection Doctor. Nothing has changed with my ISP or any of my mail providers (AOL, GMAIL and Network Solutions). Any ideas?

  • Since Update - Mail won't connect to server 50% of the time?

There have been a few minor glitches since I downloaded the recent update (screen freezes for 2-3 seconds, buttons are non-responsive or overly sensitive), but the most frustrating problem that SEEMS to relate is:
About half of the time, when I try to manually update my Mail, I get the message: "Cannot Get Mail. The connection to the server "imap.aol.com" failed" (yeh, I use AOL...) I haven't seen this message since the first few days after I purchased the iPhone. Now I see it all the time. This happens when I am at home, where I have NO cell phone signal, but do have WiFi (and iPhone Mail loaded at home no problem until this week). Anyone experiencing this or can offer explaination/assistance?
I have tried powering down (several times on each 'try') and that has no effect.

Same with me, but now (only since the 1.1.1 update) it happens regardless of whether EDGE is working/available. I keep trying different ways to fix i, but *I KEEP GETTING THE SAME MESSAGE* - _'unable to connect...'_ I turn off and turn back on the specific Network for WiFi and mess around with what I believe will be the

  • Mail won't connect to one

In the last day Mail will not connect to my Comcast mail account (but it will connect to a different account I have). I have double-checked my settings and everything looks as it should. I have tried the Safe Boot and deleting the two files from the Library as suggested in other posts, but with no positive results. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I don't if these issues are related, but I'm also having trouble accessing secure web sites with Safari:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2041491&tstart=0
I am able to access these same sites via Firefox.

Hi Bryon, and a warm welcome to the forums!
On the Safari problem, (since I don't go there often I'll try answering here).
Open System Preferences>Network>Configure>Proxies Tab, make sure none are set, like for HTTPS, especially.
Mulling the Mail problem until I hear on Safari problem!

  • Apple mail won't connect to Gmail server!

I am not sure exactly what has happened.  I have a year old MPB that is the glitchiest apple product I've had.  Mail slowly stopped connecting to the Gmail server and says my passwords are incorrect.  I have checked, rechecked, and even changed my passwords to ensure that the PW is not incorrect.  I have three gmail accounts and some of them worked up until today.  I cannot tell if this is a mac software issue or a gmail server issue.  I've been having some odd issues with my MBP so I would count that out as the culprit.  I double checked the files in Library/Preferences against an older backed up version and they seem to be intact.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • TS3276 Mail won't connect with iCloud

  • My iCloud mail won't connect on my Mac.

I've been trying to connect my mail to my Mac and I can't seem to get it to workl It states: 'The iCloud IMAP server “p01-imap.mail.me.com” is not responding. Try checking the network connection, and that the server name is correct. Otherwise, the server might be temporarily unavailable. If you continue, you might not be able to receive messages.'
I've tried changince the "pxx" numbers, I've tried logging into a different account then changing back to "imap.mail.me.com" and "smtp..." and still doesn't work.
Also, I've signed out of iCloud completely and nothing, created a new user and nothing. At this point I haven't tried to reinstall the OS but if there's no other option, I guess I might have to do it.
Any other advice would be awesome. I've hunted the depths of the interwebs and have not been able to find a solution.

My internet connection is fine, but it won't let me change my incoming mail server to the icloud address. What do I do?
When you set up an iCloud account, it should set the correct incoming and outgoing mail servers. Why do you wish to change the servers? What are they showing that you think is not correct?
