Mail won't let me shutdown my laptop

Sent two emails from my laptop, one with an attached photo and one with a recipe from pages where i had my cookbook stored.  After sending the e-mails, mail won't let me shutdown the laptop.  HELP!!!

Choose Force Quit from the Apple menu, select Mail, and press the Force Quit button. If that doesn't work, save and close everything you can and use the Activity Monitor in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to force quit the loginwindow process.

  • With maverick Mail won't let me search at all. Anyone able to help?

With my new powerbook came Maverick. Now mail won't let me search at all. Can anyone help me solve this please?

I have exactly the same problem. I received an important mail just two days ago and search doesn't even find it. Flagged mail no longer works either, so it's nigh on impossible for me to find my mails to respond to later. It's accurate to say that to me, in general Mavericks Mail.app is no longer a useful mail tool since it utterly breaks my mark-for-later-response workflow.
What's worse is that this is a massive regression. This all used to work fine. It's somewhat upsetting that I can use my four-year-old Apple laptop to effectively use email and yet my brand new one is useless. With "progress" like this, how can Apple expect brand loyalty?
EDIT: In case any Apple people read this, I am using a Google Apps mail account.

  • Mail won't let me turn off Server Authentication for .Mac accounts

Greetings. Mail won't let me alter my server settings for .Mac. I am attempting to turn off "server authentication" so that I can use my .Mac account via mail through a hotel network, but every time I change the setting and exit the preferences screen Mail automatically reverts back to the previous setting. Ideas?

Set up a new account for that with account type either IMAP or POP (not .Mac) as you desire.

my mac mail won't let me receive emails but will let me send them. How do i fix this ?

I am intermittently having the same problem. I can send email, but once the Mail application is opened, it will only pull emails in from the server one time and then I have to "Force Quit" and restart the application to receive incoming mail again.  I've tried restarting the computer. I've made sure I have all the system updates. I've checked for conflicts between applications and so far nothing fixes the problem. Once in a while, Mail starts functioning normally on its own, but in a few days it goes back to the same old problem. Has anyone figured out what if going on with this isse?

  • Software update won't open, or App Store, and Mail won't let me select messages.

    Hello,
Moutain Lion is playing up on my machine. Software update won't open, or App Store, and Mail won't let me select messages. Everything else takes at least 20 seconds to open fully.
Any ideas on what to do here?
    Cheers,
    George

  • E-mail won't let me into my folders

I have clicked on my folders, it has the information i'm in need of but it won't let me in . i can see my inbox trash spam but no folders help me asap please

When I log into my mail, I have a pane on the left that looks something like this:
There is a Section called My Folders beneath the Trash folder that contains all custom created folders. Clicking on any of those folders opens it in the viewing pane.
If this is not what you see, could you describe your screen and/or provide a screenshot?

  • Mail won't let me use Google Chrome to access cited sites

When using Mail I want to swith from Safari to Chrome to access sites cited in emails I receive, but it won't let me. I tried switching RSS default to Google Chrome, but sites still come up through Safari. What do I do to make change?

    Hello rabbittrap,
It sounds like you would like link that you click on to automatically open with Google Chrome.  I recommend setting Google Chrome as your default browser to accomplish this:
    Choosing a default web browser
    Open Safari (/Applications).
From the Safari menu, choose Preferences.
    Click the General button.
Choose your desired browser from the "Default web browser" pop-up menu.

I plug my iPod nano in and iTune won't let me drag songs onto my iPod nano because it says my laptop is not authorized and when I authorize it, it says it already is.

  • Mail won't let me drag images into Finder

Here's another one since I installed the updates from Mavericks.
Mail has stopped letting me drag images into Finder, which means that now I have to control click, Save Attachment..., then wade through all of my folders and directories, which is a nuisance! Why has it suddenly stopped allowing me to drag?
Again, only just started doing this today.
I have quit and restarted Mail - did not solve the problem.
    Thanks,
    Rory

Update: force quit and relaunched Finder - solved the issue.

  • Mail won't let me add a new email account

I have 4 email accounts in Mail and for some reason it will not let me add another new account. I have tried file>add new account and also the + sign within preferences>accounts. Any ideas what may be the problem?

I'm having exactly the same problem, but this wasn't the case the last time I added an account a few months ago - might this be as a result of a recent update?
Any help on this would be gratefully received, thank you!

  • Mail won't let me change Full Name

Just updated to Mtn Lion and made the full migration from MobileMe to iCloud.  In the process, the "full name" on some of my Mail accts changed.  Tried to change them in Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information, but the Full Name field is grey and won't allow me to change it.  Any insight on how to change my Full Name (which is my sender name) for this email acct is apreciated.  (Is it linked to my AppleID?)

I had the same problem. Here's a link to an article that gives you the instructions to change it. It fixed the problem for me. http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57509815-263/how-to-change-your-icloud-mail -full-name/
