Mail won't list alias in return address

When I use Mail to start an email, it won't list my alias as a return address. I use both addresses for specific purposes. How do I remedy this?
Thanks.
Donagh

Hello:
I (and probably most people) am confused.  Mail is an application.  Safari is a browser.  If you are connecting to some ISP mail application with Safari, the answer is with that provider.

  • Mail switches sender's name and return address

My wife and I each have separate accounts in OS X Mail. Sometimes when she sends email, Mail incorrectly puts my name and return address as the sender of the email. At first I thought it was human error, but recently I've tested the app and discovered that Mail is indeed randomly and intermittently switching the sender name from hers to mine, even when her name appears in the New Message window. Any ideas on what could be causing this and how to remedy the situtation?

Do you have separate OS X user accounts? or just use different email accounts within OS X's Mail application?
You should be using separate OS X user accounts. Then each of you will only have your account information entered in OS X's Mail application.
I have 5 or so email accounts defined in OS X's Mail application and I always have to vigilant that messages are sent with the correct account information.

  • Use Mobile Me alias as return address?

Is there any way to use one of my Mobile Me e-mail alias as the return address for my e-mails?

I agree, it's a total bandaid on a silly problem, one that Apple could easily fix.
Let me know where you're getting held up, and I'll try to offer some help. One extra thing I did was to turn off the email feature for my original MobileMe account address. That may be where you're having trouble.
Also, for your username and password, remember to use only the name, and not the entire email address.
I realize you may have already done these things, but I just wanted to offer some assistance.

  • Mail won't auto complete Exchange email addresses after Lion

Hi there. I tried to lookup a solution for this problem on the support communities but wasn't able to. Since upgrading to Lion, the auto complete feature for email addresses in my University Exchange server won't work. Mail only completes addressees contained locally in my Mac. The feature worked fine with Snow Leopard and continues to work on both my iPhone and iPad. It's worth noting that setting up the exchange server itself wasn't a straight forward task either as the auto setup didn't work and I had to enter the exchange server address manually in Mail. Any help on this would be much appreciated.

The screenshot below is from SL, not Lion, but see if you can find something similar to this.
In Mail prefs, click on 'Composing', and look for the 'Configure LDAP' button. Click on that and add your server with the little '+' button.

  • Mail won't stay on just returns to dashboard

Hi when I go to mail it won't stay on with in seconds it goes back to home page?
    Can anyone help?

Have you tried closing the app completely ? From the home screen double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Mail won't send if recipients include bad address?

I've been having a problem sending email on occasion, and it seems to be linked to a recipient in the recipients list (To, BCC, or CC) having a bad address. Mail won't tell me which recipient is incorrect, though. I'm trying to send out an email to a mailing list that includes a number of recipients, and it's a pain trying to determine which address is incorrect. Any way to force Mail to send the message regardless? Or maybe to find out which address it's choking on?

That doesn't help me much- I've already divided the mailing list into 9 different groups. I'm trying to minimize the amount of email going out to the recipients.
I ended up just using my ISP's web email client to send the message to each group, and then removed the addresses for the recipients that bounced.
I could have sworn that Mail had the same behavior in a previous version (letting me send to "bad" addresses). It would be nice to either have that behavior back, or at least have Mail tell me addesses it's choking on instead of telling me that a server isn't working...

  • My mac mail sends a false return address

my mac mail sends a false return address.
isp (Att yahoo) indicates false return address is one of thiers, but cannot understand how our computer finds it inorder to send out. The false address lists an odd email server (pimout) instead of sbcglobal ([email protected]).
isp suggests mac mail must be making contact with the server, and finding this address, some how in a search for it's appropriate address is the theory, because it is one of their's.....but has never been our address..
So, I don't really care why, but figure if I trash the right lib/pref file, I can lose this problem.
    help

    Paul, this is not a very clear description of your problem, but let's give it a try;
In your Preferences for Mail, Accounts, what do you have there as email name? the correct address?
Can you send me an email (provided somewhere in my profile when you click on my name) so I can see what the data in there looks like?

  • Multiple Mac Mail Users Getting Wrong Return Addresses

    Hello,
Having an odd problem with Mac Mail. We just switched to Gmail and it's been working fine for about two weeks until this. I have a computer with 4 users using Mac Mail. It's been that way for about 4 years now. What happens is this...
When one of the users sends out an email, somewhere along the line the return address is getting changed to another user of that computer. So for example: Joe Brown ([email protected]) is what his email address SHOULD look like in the return address. But for some reason it is this: Joe Brown ([email protected]) Whenever someone replies to Joe's email, it gets sent to Steve's mailbox instead due to the wrong email address.
    Things I've tried.
    1. Rebuilt the mailboxes
    2. Deleted all the accounts and started over
    3. Repaired Permissions
    4. Made sure there's enough space on the computer (In the past, odd problems have crept up because there wasn't enough disk space.
At first it seems to be fixed but eventually it all starts over again...
    HEEEEELP!!
    Thank you - Randy

    Randy,
Is it always the same user in the return address ?
And can we assume that whatever email address is involved it ends up with a return address at gmail.com or googlemail.com (or other GMail variant) ?
could be the smtp login used for all the mail has been set to an address on gmail. I don't use OSX Mail, but I use this feature in Entourage, I can send mail from any of my email addresses - some by different ISPs who would normally require me to dial in to their network to send mail, Gmail allows me to use their SMTP server to send mail from my other ISP mail account.
A consequence of this is that any replies come back to my gmail (googlemail.com in my case) account.
This doesn't happen by default, I needed to set some preferences on gmail, key a few passwords, etc. Can't check your gmail settings, but start by checking the SMTP server, and login, used for each user sending mail.

  • I cannot specify a "display" return address on iPad Mail

The only return address I can input is my ISP or webmail SMTP, but *I want my reply address to be my Vanity DNS address*.
    How can I do this?
(I use gmail for webmail & as a mail depository. It is not the address that my friends, family or clients see because I display a different return address. I can't do this it seems with iPad although I can do it with Mail on my Mac).

I'm having the same problem with trying to upload a Numbers file from my iPhone to iWork.com. My Apple ID has been up and working for years, along with a valid email address. I have iCloud active and dozens of apps, though I have never tried to share an iWork document to iwork.com from my iPhone before.
In fact, if I go to iWork.com on my Mac and enter in my details (and I have triple checked this) it says my Apple ID is not valid! Which it clearly is everywhere else and I can go to manage my Apple ID on my Mac no problem. There is no 'verify your email address' email in my inbox, (there really shouldn't need to be one anyway).
This would appear to be an issue where iWork.com seems not to be communicating properly with the servers holding Apple IDs, which doesn't make any sense.
Anyone have any explanation? The only thing I can think of is that perhaps iWork.com is going to get a revamp due to improved iCloud document sharing either following the March 7th announcement or along with the release of Mountain Lion in the summer and they are messing around with the servers.
Very frustrating in the meantime though!

  • Return address replaced in received mail?

My ISP for e-mail (TDS Telecom) has been "updated" as of this morning to "TDS Email powered by Google."
After the updating process was accomplished, I find that my "return" address (which appears correctly in "sent" folder) has been stripped somewhere in transit and replaced with an alternate address on its way to the recipient.
Both addresses are valid; however I would like for recipients to be able to see and use the return address which I have (ostensibly) posted.
    Is there a remedy?
    Keith

I would venture to guess your provider is going to make one of those addresses go away at some point in the future, or is using multiple servers for routing/forwarding.
Our (corporate) server does similar things.
We have an "unpublished" local site address, all mail sent off site has the "unpublished" address removed and the common corporate domain address inserted as the 'reply to' address.
The common corporate server at the reply to address is configured to forward mail to the 'unpublished' site address.
If that is what your ISP is doing, no, I doubt there is a 'cure'

  • Mail won't handle many addresses

    Hello;
I am using a MacBookPro OS 10.6.8 with Mail 4.5. If I try to send an email with 250 addresses in the Bbc line, the Send function fails. If I break the addresses up into groups of 25, I can send them all. So there is nothing wrong with the individual addresses. Mail seems to overload with too many addresses. Why is that?

    Hello;
The reaction to my attempt to send the email is fairly quick. I don't think it is from the ISP server but something in Mail itself. I don't remember the exact wording of the error message, but a window pops up with a long list of email addresses that the program says are corrupt. As I said, if I break this long list into smaller sections, all the separate emails go through just fine so the addresses are, infact, not corrupt at all. The older Mail programs used to send this many emails without any trouble.
I only do this once a year, but perhaps should look into a bulk mail service.
    Thank you.

Check all the addresses in the group to make sure they're correct. Many mail servers, Exchange for example, will reject a message entirely if any email in the group is incorrect.

  • How do I set up return address in Mail

How do I set up Mail to give as the return email address, an address other than my icloud signon?  All my email for [email protected] comes forwarded to me.  That is the address I would like people to reply to.  Tx.  Stan Trollip

Others may have a different way, but it seems you may need Apple Mail to check the server at trollip.org.  Then in Mail/New Message/From: you would simply select the account you want the recipient to see as your return address.

  • Mail Bug - Reply To addresses list everyone in your address book

I use reply-to addresses a lot to ensure I get replies to the right address.
In 10.4 I'm sure if I started typing my address in this field, it would give me a choice of similar reply to addresses I'd used before, or perhaps based on my accounts.
In 10.5, it is now listing everyone in my address book and has potential for serious consequences.
For instance, if my reply-to is ian @ mac.com then when I used to start typing ia.. it would give me a list of my various reply-to addresses. Now, it is giving me the default of another ian in my address book. It is easy to dismiss the default and inadvertently ensure a reply is sent to another person completely! The list should really only include email accounts you have or some other limited list.
    Anyone else notice this change/bug?

OK, JUST TO CLARIFY:  I OPEN MY MAIL PROGRAM.  I then start a new letter.  I then click on the little person icon button which opens up the address/contacts list.  This action does not open up the address book as such.
I simply want to select various contacts from the list.  But now I can no longer simply go down the list to double click on those contacts that I want to automatically drop into the TO field of my new message.  It does not work any longer in Mavericks??
Now I have to click on each contact, and then go up, and click again on the TO button ....
Can Apple please stop making tasks more difficult??  The previous version worked great, and now it has been upgraded so that it doesn't work as simply as it did??
    Frustrated.!!!
